Finn & Porter - Alexandria Restaurant

Decided to check this place out for the evening. Service was good but their drink making is average at best. I would not order their old fashioned. Food was good. Sushi was freshly made. Their breakfast buffet is way overpriced for what they offer. Use the marketplace instead.

We have not be at the restaurant in a while. Today’s experience made us realized why we stopped. Food is amazing with great ambiance. The sushi is to dying for. Every single dish was amazing!

I got a hamburger the flavor was good but there was some gristle in every bite. The fries were good and the waitress was great.

Very tasty breakfast especially pastry with walnuts was amazing! Sushi roll with avocado was very tasteful, I liked this place. Great location with free parking, especially for guests. Go there every time I visit Washington.

Hotel eatery. Nice choices for breakfast buffet less than $20. Had a buffalo burger for evening treat and a tasty chocolate cake. Restaurant is spread out around the bar, with some seats far ways you don't see it.

It appears Finn & Porter is only open for a breakfast buffet. We have been at the Hilton Mark Center hotel for a week, and the lobby lounge serves happy hour, lunch, and dinner, but the Finn & Porter itself is not open for anything other than breakfast.

I think ramen from a can would have tasted better. Maybe it was just the Japanese place that was awful. I don't know. Drive, Uber, or walk to some other restaurant for food. The hotel catered meals during a workshop were great.

I was having a delightful time relaxing and eating the freshest sushi Ive had in years. My Bliss was ruined when my partner came to join me and was utterly harassed by the parking people, over $15 and a Napoleon complex who don't speak English. Why must people who don't speak the language be running important areas of businesses? I certainly believe that being able to communicate when you're in sales is crucial. Most importantly I don't understand why Hilton would allow a $200 meal be ruined over parking. On the flip side, the sushi chef and the bartenderwere excellent.

We joined out of town hotel guests for dinner at this eatery on a Thursday evening. TLDR: Good food, prepared with care, middling drinks, understaffed service (long waits for water etc). Atmosphere of bar table seating and not a real restaurant experience. Things to know: At least for now, the actual restaurant room is closed, with the veritable velvet rope across the doorway. (Possibly they open it briefly for Saturday's or brunches - be sure to call and ask.) They validate part of the cost of hotel parking, which is $5 an hour. The front desk validates based on your restaurant receipt. The ambiance isn't the cozy and relaxing one we expected from the pictures online. They do at least provide cloth napkins and real silverware. You instead sit at tables in a sectioned off, open lobby space around the bar at one wall. The bar features hard surfaces and simple tables with baskets of condiments and flatware. So, expect the ambience to be echoey and less relaxing than the Finn and Porter concept you see online. It was okay, but not intimate or warm. Food: You can order beef, chicken, fish, pasta, or salads with protein. There's a creative pizza option too, plus a sushi menu. We had the steak, chicken, and kale salad with salmon. All were well prepared and presented, and tasty. We would order these again. Other patrons ordered burgers and seemed happy with them. Portions were generous. Desserts looked good as well. Servers were nice and tried to be helpful, but were a little forgetful. I would never eat there as a destination, but if you're a guest and not in a hurry, it's a satisfying meal worth the cost. For those who can leave the hotel and want more ambiance nearby, I'd go to Clyde's a couple blocks away.

My experience at the seafood/sushi/steakhouse restaurant within the hotel was disappointing, warranting a 2-star rating. The food quality was subpar, and the service fell short of expectations. Despite my initial curiosity due to its convenient location, the overall dining experience turned out to be terrible. I would recommend exploring other dining options even if you're staying in the hotel to ensure a more satisfying and enjoyable meal.

We just spent the weekend in the Hilton and were extremely disappointed in Finn and Porter. We checked their hours of operation on line and one place said 6AM -10PM, but another place said 5PM -10PM. We found that they were closed most hours. Sunday they were only open until 11AM. We wanted to have a large group of 14 for lunch at Noon and they sad that they would be closed. Service when we did get in was extremely slow. I don't understand how any restaurant can be successful if they are not open during the hours that are posted on line. They need to consider updating their website to reflect what is actually happening.

I would give a 3 star but there were a few things that brought this down to a 2 star rating. Firstly, there was no hostess all night so I guess you have to find your own table. The waitress walked up and sat us after a few moments of confusion. The waitress was very nice, ok, we ordered the mussels for an appetizer. They were plentiful and tasty, (especially the bread) but the soup base was a bit tart. My wife ordered the bouillabaisse, the mussels were fine, the scallops were okay and the shrimp was blah. The soup base tasted like old Bay and water. My daughter ordered the Diver scallops, they were overcooked so nothing special there. I ordered the 14 oz. New York strip and customized it with the Oscar crab topping. The plate came out wet which let me know that the crab was frozen and thawed out on my plate. I also took a shell out of my mouth from the crab. The steak was bland and the side of risotto was under. The spinach was the highlight. I wish they had a cocktail menu so be prepared to order something that you already have in your mind. All in all, we won't come back. This place has potential but you can tell that management is content and they need a new head chef!

The service was horrible and so was the food. I walked in to get a to go order. Asked where to place the order and she says here and walks off. She came back 5 minutes later and took my order. She only found her manners when she brought me the check, as if, that would be enough for me to forget the poor service she had provided earlier. I got crab soup and sushi both were absolutely flavorless.

The Restaurant 1) The Finn and Porter is the worst hotel restaurant i have ever been in. 2) In 3 days i was unable to have a breakfast there. Day 1 we went in the restaurant, they lost our ticket and only realized it 35 minutes later when we asked. By then it was too late and we couldnt wait for them to start over. 3) Day 2 we figured we would skip the restaurant and try the room service. We were sent a COMPLETELY un-toasted english muffin and burnt eggs. With all the fees the $25 breakfast became $40. 4) Day 3 we tried the restaurant again and the kitchen set off the fire alarm burning the breakfast potatoes and the whole hotel had to be evacuated. 5) They claim to have great sushi but who in their right mind would even try it when they can't even make an omelet or pancakes.

Limited menu with mediocre offerings. Pricey for the quality and portion of food served. Bartender biased on which patrons get served- lost out on sales not knowing that I was going to invite others to join my table after work.

I love this place for breakfast! The price is on point like a decimal it's not to far and I get to catch the breakfast because of my schedule 6am-11am. My husband and I catch it at least once a month and have our time and share a decent meal of hot bacon, mouth watering scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and sweet orange juice, hot bagels and choice of cereal and or hot oatmeal. It's nothing too fancy something you could probably whip up in your kitchen but why? When you can come here. The parking is validated (high five) it's at the bottom of the Hilton in Mark Center. We take our two younger children and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. Love this place not five stars only because the menu is switched at times and the French toast is unusually cold and hard. Maybe a waffle or pancake station (Hint Hint).

Came here last night before the NYE party and regretted it not soon after. I've never had a light skinned steak from a real life restaurant, but I did last night. A ribeye at that. I don't like to complain about establishments that aren't my own, but sheesh. Service was bad, most food was bleh, the macaroni was very bad.....Very, very bad. The mashed potatoes and iced water were the hits. I don't eat for the nutritional value, I eat for the experience. This is an experience that I regret.

The sushi bar is world class. Love the sashimi deluxe platter. I was staying here and they gave me an order to go so I could eat in my room. Also had the "Finn roll", and 2 fresh oysters on the half shell. Must try if you like sushi as close to the "Japanese way " that i have found in America.

This breakfast menu is amazing. Such a great variety of options. They also have a breakfast bar, if you would like to sample a little of everything. I ordered off the menu (Salmon, Green Peppers, Red Peppers, Onions, & Spinach Omelette, Bacon and Hash Browns). This was definitely a 5 Star omelette. Also the service was great, my waiter was extremely friendly and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely be back! Great to know this place is literally 5 min away, from my house.

As far as in hotel restaurants go, Finn & Porter is good one. The menu is diverse, bar food, pastas, sushi and a generic Indian dishes. I appreciate the convenience (Hilton's Lobby), sushi chef and the Happy Hour specials. If you want great food, I would recommend venturing 10 minutes outside of the hotel area (see my other reviews in the area). For a quick, convenient bite and drink, Finn and Porter is a very good choice.

I had a really lovely dining experience here. Didn't have high expectations for a hotel restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly enjoyed the food - thought the sea bass was delicious. Came with spinach that was also cooked very well. Tried my friend's short ribs - very good. My other friend's scallops - also awesome. The bacon deviled eggs were decent but nothing memorable. Oh and the warm bread for the table was fantastic! The beer menu left something to be desired - not too many craft brews. Our server was phenomenal! I believe her name was Lula but I could be wrong. She was super friendly, attentive and helpful. She offered us cups to take our coffee to go and helped us compile a bucket of beer to purchase for the room.

Not bad or horribly overpriced for an upscale hotel restaurant. Very elegant ambiance and not overly busy even with a reunion staying there but our one meal was very slow service. Also the menu was very limited, mostly offering sushi which few of the patrons were ordering. Strangely the room service menu offered more options including pizza at lower p r ices....go figure! The burger and salad we got were fine but not special. The restaurant probably gets lots of captive trade because there are not many other restaurant options nearby.

Very impressed by the wide range of food on menu. I did notice, that a lot of people had negative feedback about this place. Personally, I thought it was pretty good. As a traveler travels a lot getting a good deal at the hotel you staying at is a big luxury in this hotel has a really good restaurant. Food was very tasty. My group, ordered oysters on the half shell which were very fresh very good very surprising that it was this very good. Also ordered muscles, clam chowder, french fries and slow cooked beef ribs. Service was very good reliable courteous no complaints there. This was our second night there and In our group as a whole thought it was a good experience. I would definitely dine here again!

Came here for happy hour with the coworkers...Our waiter was very nice and patient. The appetizers we're all $5 each so we ordered all of them Lol.... I specifically ordered the truflle fries based on another review. I've never had truffle fries and thought they would be different than regular fries.... maybe it was me but the truffle flavor was minimal it almost went unnoticed.... Out of all the apps the calamari was the favorite. It was super fresh and fried perfectly. The only complaint was the drink specials..... a happy hour that doesn't offer cocktails only beer and wine.... so sad....

Came here again when I flew into Virginia. Cj and Angela at the front of the hotel are the best for hospitality while checking in and if you ever need anything. The breakfast is also really good Cory and Eric do a superb job of providing great service too. Had the shasimi deluxe, tamago, seaweed salad,and the surf and turf. The surf and turf was hands down my favorite. The lobster alone is A+ with the butter. We had the potato mashed instead of having it baked. It was super creamy and comes with bits of the skin in it.

Worst customer service ever and the messiest tables I've ever seen. Buffet is worth it though.

I was staying at the Hilton and I was too tired to drive anywhere to find a place to it. Located in the hotel it's a big restaurants known for their steak and sea food. I've never been so I decided to check it out. Not a big menu. I ordered the Grilled salmon with 2 sides. It was cooked good and the food came out fast. There was also not a lot of people in the restaurant. The waiter was helpful.

The fiancé and I came here for dinner after checking into the hotel. Right away I was excited because they had a sushi but of course as always being my indecisive self I didn't know if I wanted sushi or American food. I decided against the sushi and ordered fish chips. We ordered wings to share and he ordered a burger. The prices were a bit expensive but the portions made up for that. The food was delicious, hot and flavorful. We both ordered drinks from the bar but I didn't really care for the taste of my cocktail. Overall good experience and maybe next time I will try the sushi.

It's more like 1.5 stars (and that's assuming I don't discover I have food poisoning in the next hour). The service was slow, both for my drink and for the sushi bar despite the fact that it seemed no one else was ordering sushi when I was. The maguro tasted metallic and I finally had to give up on the California roll because it tasted like sweat. And it was $40. I should have taken the time to walk to Clyde's or the thai restaurant down the street.

We decided to eat here because we didn't want to move the car after parking. The food was the okayest of the ok foods. I ordered a medium rare steak and it didn't have a bit of salt or sear on it. The sides were basic as hell. Definitely the worst high end meal I've ever had. I heard the location in DC was good but this one is not living up to its name. I actually don't think I've ate a good meal at a hotel restaurant. Ever. That's pretty much the prerequisite of a hotel restaurant... your food must be trash.

I usually don't write negative reviews but I really felt that this was the cause for me to really express how I felt regarding the treatment and the service that I received at this restaurant. We had a 730 reservation be a meal until approximately 845 mind you there was no one in the restaurant we arrived at the restaurant at 730 it took an hour for us to get out or appetizersthe drinks came about 30 minutes later and all the general manager could do was lay blame on to our party not being seated at the appropriate time. There's no way west side of hell I would patronize this establishment again I think it was condescending and I really feel that it would be a little late for the general manager to feel as though we were beneath him and treat us in such a subpar manner. The food was horrible the server was horrible and the general manager was the worst manager I've ever encountered.

I stayed at the Marks Hilton for over a week so I had many experiences with Finn and Porter. I ate there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The positives: - Friendly, helpful staff - Breakfast is very good whether off the menu or the buffet - Dinner is excellent - the sushi and the steaks were very good - It is conveniently located inside the hotel so if you're staying there in the winter, you don't have to leave to face the cold The negatives: - A few of the times I went there it was insanely loud; I couldn't hear the person I was with over the noise - They're not very gluten-free friendly - The lunch menu is very overpriced and the food isn't as good as breakfast and dinner - The wait at lunchtime is insane - by the time I got my food I had to rush to eat it to get back to my conference in time;

I love this place, for a hotel restaurant it continues to exceed my expectations. I stay at the attached Hilton often..I've had the opportunity to try just about everything here. From breakfast, lunch, sushi to dinner everything has been good. The service is always on point and before the end of the week the staff usually knows what I want. Job well done team! Thanks for the continued hospitality.

Fine dining! Hip and jazzy. Excellent for steak and seafood. Your palette will be amazingly satisfied. The decor, level of service, and complete menu, of well prepared top chef entrees, leaves you pleased not wanting.

The servers were prompt, attentive, and courteous. The bread was nice and hot and I really enjoyed it. I would have liked sweet-cinnamon butter even more ... just a thought. I had the clam chowder and the spinach salad with bacon wrapped dates. Both were tasty but the bacon could have been cooked just a tad bit more. Overall I had a good experience and recommend it, if you're in the area.

Solid steakhouse with good sushi! Had Valentine's Day dinner with the kiddies and hubs at this Finn & Porter location--which is inside of a hotel. Love the layout, feel and decor of the restaurant. Very modern and chic. Ambiance is sexy. A plethora of cozy and private booths. Lots of space so that no table is too near any other. The sushi bar is located smack at the front of the place. Started with some sushi selections and was very satisfied with the freshness and quality. Exceeded expectations. Also very good variety. Mussels in garlic and butter were tasty. Ordered a NY Strip and hubs had the Ribeye with a 'bacon and bleu' crust. Steaks were very good! Our cuts were the most pricey on the menu at $30 and included 2 sides. I thought this was a great value for the money. Tab was $120 for 2 steak entrees, an appetizer of mussels (good), 2 sushi rolls and an order of nigiri, 1 glass of wine, 1 cocktail and 2 kids' juices. Service was very good. Not a bad spend at all! Would return.

Meh...nothing nearby in walking distance so if you're staying near, it's good for a cold brew and happy hour.

Oh man. I was really excited that this place had sushi. I was there for a video game con, and frankly there isn't much around the hotel. Saturday morning I really wanted sushi; got spicy tuna and a California roll. They were both other worldly mediocre. Not fresh, but not stale. Chewy. Bland. Service however is spot on.

Mediocre food at best. I had the salmon burger and it tasted very fishy like they used salmon that had been around for some time. It was supposed to come with cole slaw, but they used sauerkraut that comes out of a jar and it didn't go well with the salmon. The sweet potato fries were the only redeeming part of this meal. Service was very good. But I would take the walk to Clyde's next time.

At least cuisine wise, Finn & Porter tries to be all things to all people. It is a sushi bar, a steakhouse and a seafood restaurant all in one. I wish I could say the same for the service. Talk about bad. Just bad! I'll get to that in a moment. The fish entree that one of my friends ordered was blah. The options were broiled or sauteed-- that's it. What? No blackened or wood grilled choices. Minus points, right there. I have to say, however, the sushi at Finn & Porter is excellent. Another plus are the dollar appetizers during happy hour. However.. The service, or lack thereof. It took a waiter over ten minutes to come to our table and 30 minutes to tell one of my friends the kitchen was all out of the appetizer he ordered. Um..then another hour for our entrees. Good thing we weren't in a rush. With all of the tourist and business traffic this restaurant gets due to being inside the Hilton, I guess there is no reason to improve the service here.

This review is strictly based off of sitting at the bar: we are regulars at F&P for their sushi! By regulars, I mean 1-2 times a week, if not every other week. The sushi menu, while short, is so fresh and delicious! Chef Kim is our favorite, he always takes care of us and remembers our specific preferences!

Service was fast and the food was tasty. Nice romantic setting with the pond as a back drop. Buffet does not have turkey products and when I was here they had French toast. I went with the Virginian eggs Benedict with crab cake. Cakes had good flavor however, I asked if they were lump and told they were. They were not. However no complaints as it was cooked just like I like them. Server with coffee and oj were on us the moment we sat. Thanks. That was smart I needed after a long night bringing in the new year.

Very good service, delicious sushi, nice selection of draft beers and tasty Pork Bao buns. We enjoyed our experience here! Our favorite was the Amigo Roll.

We waited at the bar for five minutes without being greeted while a manager stood at the POS with her back turned to us. When we were able to get her attention, she briskly informed us that their bartender didn't show up to work. I replied that at a minimum she should have informed the five guests waiting patiently at the bar of this. She didn't appear concerned in the least about this service shortfall, but rather annoyed at my query. I expect much better from the Hilton and Finn and Porter.

I feel obligated to pull the rating of this place up a bit. Stayed here for a few days and avoided it on the first night due to Yelp reviews. I finally started eating here out of convenience and was pleasantly surprised by the quality lunch and dinner options. I've enjoyed delicious, meaty crab cakes; spicy ciopinno with fresh ocean fare (shrimp, crab, halibut, clams); warm flaky bread with every meal. That said, skip the breakfast buffet. The eggs are a bit rubbery.

Upon first impressions you might belief that you're in for a treat. I however didn't font that to be the case. I found that the prices were a little high considering but being that there isn't much around with walking distance on a cold day, they kinda got you. I ordered the Wedge Salad from the lunch menu. I was a little small in comparison to every other wedge I've had in the past. It looked like it had been constructed by a toddler but ok, maybe it'll take great. And that would be a big no! It was below average and for a $15 salad, that was disappointment and the reason for my poor review. This evening, cold or not I'm not eating at the Hotels Finn and Porter.

Fair at best. Very limited sushi hours. Limited menu and overpriced due to limited options. The best thing is the bar service and prices.... dinner is okay but not the level uou would expect of this place.

I am from Philly suburb. I really enjoyed the sushi, and sashimi. Prices were good. Quality was excellent.

Sushi menu at the bar is not bad at all. You won't find anything exotic, but it's simple, and reasonably prepared. But with only 1 sushi chef, it's a long wait to get anything on a moderately busy night. The problem is service. Oh what atrocious service! Imagine what it would be if a handful of bus boys were pressed to wait on you. It's slow, unfriendly, and non-engaging. My drink order wasn't even served until my entree came out, and only then by the manager after I complained. Tonight, I ordered a 16oz rib eye steak. What came out was a lukewarm piece of what was prime rib at some point, lightly heated to leave grill marks--why didn't they just offer it as prime rib, rather than try to pass of a gray lukewarm slab of meat as steak? Avoid the steaks, if this is their idea. When I was asked about my meal, I pointed out that this isn't a medium rare rib eye steak. She offered to have the manager speak to me. 15 minutes later, no one stopped by. Flabbergasted, I flagged my server over to ask what I should do, when she won't give me my check, and a no-show manager? She finally just told me that it's on the house and I just walked out. Clearly, they were understaffed and overwhelmed. I'm sticking with sushi next time, and then only because it's in the hotel I'm staying in.

After the less than stellar reviews I had to take time to give a review. Atmosphere was very nice, my server Gaio was very attentive. I ordered oysters, Ming roll and the Cioppino. The food,was very good service was pleasant,and prompt my server even made a great wine selection recommendation. I would definitely come back.

Food was just ok but service was amazing. George our server was very attentive and accommodating and made us feel welcome. Overall the ribeye was good and the soft shell crab sushi was excellent but most of our table agreed everything else was underwhelming and lacked adequate seasoning.

We tried the Ciopinno, fresh muscles, cod, shrimp in a white wine was a great choice, the fish of the day was tuna and we had it blackened but it end up very dry... The server was very kind, we enjoyed our dinner..

We come here often for work lunches because of its convenient location but the food has me a tad underwhelmed. I usually order the Seared tuna and pineapple salad, which depending on the tuna quality of the day, can be pretty darn good, or leave me with an upset stomach. I once strayed off menu to order the Bison burger medium rare (after observing their overcooking on other occasions) and the burger came back medium well. It was served with extremely bland and boring fries. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you order off menu and don't do the buffet during lunch, the service is EXTREMELY slow.

Convenient location in the lobby of the Hilton. Was good for a quick bite at the bar or for lunch. Wings are good and spicy. Sushi is good, again nothing remarkable. The one day my honey ordered a salmon burger sandwich with sweet potato fries, nothing remarkable. I ordered a caesar chicken salad with a lobster & crab bisque soup. My soup had a hair in it :( luckily I noticed it right away and they removed it from the bill. Over all I would find somewhere else to eat, plenty of great food within driving distance.

Service was extremely slow but I attribute some of that to having a large conference going on. Food is great. We did have to ask for napkins, check, etc. I'd definitely would give them a second try. The atmosphere and low noise was great.

One leisurely Saturday evening, the air was cold and the sea was calm but something was amiss...I could feel it in my bones. I ventured out to see if I could find the culprit of my unease. The trail was cold at first but after much searching, a seafood, steak, and sushi restaurant appeared to have a secret it just couldn't hide. Exhibit 1: I went specifically for their sushi. I called to confirm they were still serving sushi one hour prior to arriving. Exhibit 2: I arrived with friends only to be left at our table without any service after getting menus for nearly 10 mins. Exhibit 2A: When we were served our complimentary glasses of waters...they were in Styrofoam cups...yes...I said STYROFOAM Okay, well let's roll with the punches I thought... Exhibit 3: We order our sushi rolls, I ask for straws for the drinks and ponder why my napkin has only a knife and no fork within it Exhibit 3B: We are left for another 10 mins waiting for our sushi with no contact from our waitress Exhibit 4: Our waitress returned to tell us they were not serving sushi anymore...because they had ran out of RICE! A sushi place with no rice is like Pizza Hut with no pizza...it just ain't right. The remainder of the menu was not what I had come for, so I kindly took my leave. But not before noticing that several patrons sitting at the bar behind me had actual glass cups and... were eating what...*gasp* SUSHI! I hope they got sushi before I did and our waitress and the chef weren't just being obnoxious about making sushi because they wanted to close early. This case may never be solved but I do know that I won't be returning to collect anymore clues.
