20 Spots Around New York for Delicious Summer Cocktails | Eater

"Grab a picnic table at this white-hot summer haven by the beach and order a round of classic summer cocktails like strawberry daiquiris, piña coladas, frozen margaritas, or a new twist on a summer must-have, the Grey Goose Watermelon & Basil Essences Spritz. And when hunger calls, the menu is filled with seafood-focused snacks like lobster rolls, conch fritters, and fish tacos to dig into." - Vox Creative

This hotel is very unique, normally hotel staff tries to please their guests and accommodate them. The Fire Island Beach House is not interested in pleasing their guests. I paid $1200.00 a night for a bungalow that sleeps six. It’s also equipped with a kitchen, basically the kitchen is empty. No silverware, one or two cups or glasses. You can’t cook in the pots and pans they were in such bad shape. Their is not table to eat on even if you wanted to cook. They have a nice deck outside with no umbrella or table just some chairs. They gave us 3 bath towels, no hand towels. When I asked for more towels I was told they were in the dryer and to come back in 45 mins (they do not bring it to your room). I was at the pool and we needed pool towels I asked and they said they would go get them out of the dryer. I was standing by the gate of the pool and Jen (the young lady working) walked right past me with the towels and put them on the shelf behind the desk so that I had to go back in the lobby and ask for them again. Don’t expect any hooks to hang anything anywhere in the room and don’t expect hangars in the closets. The sheets and pillow had stains on them. If you want to stay somewhere overpriced and have the bare minimum you should book a stay at the Fire Island Beach House.

I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, my experience was not as pleasant as I had hoped. While the location was convenient, I encountered a few significant issues during my stay. First and foremost, I discovered bedbugs in my room, which was incredibly unsettling and made it difficult to relax. They were literally present in all three beds in the suite. Additionally, I was disappointed to find that there was no full-length mirror available, which would have been helpful for getting ready especially in a suite meant for 5+ guests. Lastly, the lack of adequate in-room furniture made the space feel sparse and uncomfortable- no table, no chairs and no dresser at all. Also, beware that the rooms do not have any mini fridge which would have been useful. Overall, while the hotel had potential, these issues really detracted from my experience. We notified the staff of the bud bugs immediately after finding them, and were met with a complete lack of care or concern from the staff. I hope they can address these concerns for future guests as the stay did not equate the price we paid.

We have been going to the Fire Island hotel for over two decades. Once they sold and became the FIBH, they tripled the price and services are bare minimum at best. Staff is rude and uncaring (except Alexa at the front desk). Even though we booked in March, they had us move to a smaller room after two nights there. They said they no longer had our room we reserved. What!!????|So we moved, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but the way the staff is so obnoxious, it is a corporate vibe. We used to be able to get towels, now in a room that sleeps 5 we had to ask multiple times for more than two towels. We can’t even get ice for our cooler (as they used to have mini fridges in each room, yet another thing they took away). I don’t mind using the ice machine but that broke two years ago and they haven’t yet fixed it. Yet they have since tripled the price. We paid 2700 for a tiny room with two queen beds and a single. The sheets, comforter and bed was wet with mildew. The air conditioner leaked and made a big puddle in the room. I would never recommend this hotel with the new ownership. It’s overpriced and guests are undervalued! They said we MUST be out by 10:30 and we picked up and asked for them to send someone for our belongings so we could spend time on the beach. It was so urgent that we check out yet we sat there for almost row hours waiting for them to collect our luggage from the room. Doesn’t even make sense why they declined a late check out!!!!

Fantastic Beach Getaway at The Fire Island Beach House! We recently stayed at The Fire Island Beach House with a group of 8, ranging in ages 12-40 years old and it exceeded all our expectations. We had a bungalow that was perfect for our group size. The food was outstanding, with a variety of delicious options that catered to all our tastes. The immaculate pool area was a highlight, offering great vibes and a relaxing atmosphere. The beach was absolutely beautiful and just a short walk from our bungalow, making it easy to enjoy the sun and surf whenever we wanted. One of the great features was the availability of bikes to rent right out front, which made it convenient to head into Ocean Beach for ice cream and shopping. There were also several other restaurants in close proximity, giving us plenty of dining options to explore. The location of the hotel is fantastic, just a short 5-minute walk to the ferry, making our arrival and departure a breeze. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and we highly recommend The Fire Island Beach House for anyone looking for a relaxing beach getaway.

Way overpriced and not at all what we expected. We stayed in the Cottage claiming to sleep eight, we were six with barely enough room. The Cottage’s description is way oversold; full kitchen is a lie, though you get a range, microwave and dorm sized mini fridge. There’s barely anywhere to sit inside, not an ounce of storage for anything. Some of the pots and pans had handles, only some. For sleeping eight we got two towels and had to take out our own garbage and go looking for towels. Window unit air conditioners took the place of the busted central air. The bathrooms and floors were like being at a campground. One glowing shout out goes to Ed, the only one at the front desk that was surly and dying to let us know we were an inconvenience to them by existing. The luggage concerning service and Jess at the desk were also quite great. The waitresses at the pool should teach a class on service. And of course the beach is right there. For the money, I won’t be back. Save your shekels, get together a bigger group and stay in a rental house instead!

This was our third visit to the FIBH Hotel, and it will be our last. We booked the "Cottage" which sleeps eight people. We paid over $1,300 per night for four nights there. (Sunday-Thursday, not even weekend rates.) I had called ahead of time to check on the "full kitchen" amenities. I was told it is a full kitchen. One would expect dishes for the amount of people it is advertised for. There were two plates, two bowls, and four or five cups. One would also expect pots and pans. There were three small ones, large enough to heat up a can of soup or boil water for a cup of tea. I asked the manager, Jeannie, who was very friendly and eager to help, for a larger pot and she was able to get one for me. There was no toaster in the unit and none on the property. There were two towels left in the unit. We had to ask for more. There was no dishwasher detergent. We had to ask for that. Never got it. The floors have clearly not been mopped in who knows how long. The bottoms of our feet were black on the first day, so we never walked around the place without flip flops or sneakers on. When our kitchen garbage was full, I went to the front desk and asked about garbage pick-up. I was told to leave my garbage bag on the front porch and someone would pick it up, and I was given a new garbage bag for replacement. Again, for the rates I paid, I would expect more services than being handed a garbage bag. |FIBH is advertised as having been renovated. We have stayed at one of the smaller rooms which was renovated; the cottage doesn't appear to have the same renovations. |The place is very convenient to both the ferry and the beach. The beach is a very short walk from the property. I believe this is the reason they are able to charge such exorbitant rates and get them. The staff there, overall, is young and friendly, but they need to be trained and mentored. |For the amount of money we paid, I expect much much more. I will return to renting a house on Fire Island next summer.

I have no idea how this hotel even has close to 4 stars. I’ll just start by saying I love Fire Island - I’ve been coming here for 30 years and have gone to this hotel since before the new owners took over. We booked a bungalow, which costs about $1200 a night and is supposed to sleep 6. First of all, we found a cockroach in a bedroom, which is gross. I’ll list out the rest of the issues: -In a cabin that sleeps 6 with a kitchen, there was no table. Like literally not one spot to actually eat. -there were almost zero utensils, no bowls, an assortment of 5 cups that consisted of mismatched mugs and 2 bar glasses. So even if you found a space to eat there is nothing to eat with. -the pots and pans were truly disgusting to even consider cooking with. -the bathroom had no towel hook for a hand towel or any towel at all. -the outdoor shower had no hook for a towel, no space for bath products aside from the floor. -they gave us 3 small towels when we checked in for a room that sleeps 6. This is obviously a beautiful location because fire island is beautiful. The hotel has definitely been updated since the previous owners. But for $1200 a night, you would think that a cabin that sleeps 6 would actually be functional or semi nice and this just wasn’t. It felt dirty, it had almost nothing we needed, the kitchen is useless, and it wasn’t comfortable to hang out there. Really, really disappointing for such a high price. I know there’s nothing luxurious about Fire Island but for the prices this hotel charges, I don’t think it’s too much to ask to supply like more than one fork or maybe even a normal cup. Or maybe even a hand towel in the bathroom.

First off if I could give FIBH zero stars I would. I would say the waitresses were very accommodating and made sure we were always good on food and drinks. With that being said our experience other than that was terrible. My husband and I went on a little get away after our wedding and based on the website we thought FIBH would be perfect to spend a few days. We checked into our king suite and we were instantly hit with this horrible mildew smell. There was mold all over the ceiling and the ac unit was full of dust and black mold. They definitely haven't serviced those units or cleaned them at all. When we called down to let the staff know they came up checked it out and said we can move to another room. The room next door was also supposed to be a king suite..it was half the size and definitely not worth what we paid. This room ended up being worse. Also had mold on the ceiling and inside the ac unit. We went down to the front desk to talk to them again and they gave us $100 off a night for our $1200 stay. We got scammed out of a bigger king suite to another very small “king suite” that they only called it that because it had a king bed in it. We dealt with the room and went on with our stay. We were out all day on our second day to come back and find out we did not get our room cleaned. For the price we payed this service should have been included. On our way out we were packing and noticed the mattress cover we slept on for 2 night was covered in mold. They covered it with a sheet thats why we didn’t notice it in the beginning. We should have checked after seeing all the mold in the room. Told the front desk about that on our way our and they responded with “oh they are supposed to change that with every stay”..clearly they do not do that. Overall do not let the website fool you..listen to the reviews do not stay here.
