This restaurant has one of the absolute best burgers I’ve ever had. I had the black n blue burger with their homemade potato chips. I didn’t want my burger to end it was so good! For dessert we had the mixed berry cobbler with huckleberry ice cream and it was so very good! We sat outside on the patio which has a wonderful view of the forest and the Toutle River. The whole experience was wonderful and the staff was very friendly. This place is a must-go when in the area, you won’t be disappointed!! We plan on coming back in July on our next camping trip.

Google
Such over the top amazing service. Went the day before they shut down for the season. The food had so much flavor and was served quickly. They let us pick apples. Lots of pretty flowers. Fun porch activity for kids and MAJECTIC view of the mountain and river. The bathrooms were weird because you walk down a pretty staircase outside and go into the basement for single stall use. What a gem though. Inside is cozy and fun. Plenty of parking. Cool historic photos and merchandise to buy.

Google
Beautiful view of the river from this place! Worth it just for the sitting arrangement. Doesn't hurt that the food is excellent too. We particularly liked the fries and house Tartar. The hosts were pleasant and service reasonably fast. Overall I don't think you can have a better experience than this one in the area.

Google
Nice little restaurant on your way through Toutle, WA. There was only one server working the restaurant when we went, but there was only us and another table at the time. Seating inside and out on the patio. Nice view of the river out back. Simple menu, but the classic burger and elk burger we got were good. They make their own in house chips, but I preferred the beer battered fries. Also got the berry cobbler which was delicious. Nice spot after a long trip out to Mount St. Helen's and back.

We ordered the Outlaw burger with fries, Huckleberry Mule and the berry cobbler with ice cream. Everything was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere and view was wonderful

Google
Excellent service, we were seated immediately, good food (except I am not a fan of the home made chips). Oh my gosh, it is true...they have fantastic cobbler. Well worth the 30 minute drive just for the cobbler. The flavors are rich and deep. You take that first bite and close your eyes and are pretty much in heaven over how good it is.

Stopped for early dinner after exiting the Park. Easy parking, great outside covered seating - dog friendly, nice river views. Friendly staff, good service & the food was yummm! We had the blue burger, kids bbq bacon cheese burger & fish & chips. We’d definitely go again. Highly recommend

Google
Nice quaint restaurant. Beautiful deck view overlooking the river. I got the PNW salad with chicken and a side of fries. All was tasty! Service was good as well. If you need to use the restroom, it's underneath the restaurant (go outside and down the steps through the arch. There are signs guiding the way).

Yelp
Fire Mountain Grill is THE restaurant to eat at before visiting Mt. St. Helens, especially if you're planning to go towards Johnson Ridge as Fire Mountain Grill is along the way. We came here for lunch before visiting the park, and it was a solid meal with a view. Located in small town Toutle, we had planned to visit Fire Mountain Grill beforehand while planning our Mt. St. Helens weekend trip, which I recommend you do too if you're planning to visit the park. It's a stand alone restaurant in the woods that overlooks Toutle River and is in a house, which is part of its charm! Forget phone service, but you'll enjoy being out in the wilderness. We visited on a Saturday for lunch and the place was busy. We learned that when we visited it was the last Saturday before they were closing for the season, which they do when the weather gets colder. I'm sure they must get a lot of their business from tourists on their way or from Mt. St. Helens. In fact, after we ate here, we spotted many of the same patrons from here at the Johnson Ridge Observatory. The best seat in the house is on the back deck, which looks out to the river and woods. My partner and I both ordered a burger and shared their famous berry cobbler, which you must save room for! Every table was getting the cobbler and after eating it, I can see why. It was delicious, with the warm mixed berry concoction, with a crumbly surface and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. NOMS! The burgers were solid, too, but not my favorite item here after having the cobbler. I recommend if you're planning a trip out to Mt. St. Helens to visit Fire Mountain Grill for a meal. Just remember that it closes for the cold season.

Yelp
Great venue and even greater food. Definitely a must visit when heading to or from Mt St Helens

Yelp
Never open, despite the listed hours. Quite a repeated disappointment. If they're seasonal, they need to mention that.

Yelp
Food was super yummy! I had the coconut shrimp & chips which were delish. My husband had a hamburger and really enjoyed it. The berry cobbler is a must try. Our waitress was a sweetheart! Can't beat the view!
google avatar

Yelp
We saw a bear down on the river once when we were here! The food is good, service too. Great seating and views. We like the drive up here and it is very nice to have a good burger to enjoy along the way!

Yelp
Stopped in on a Sunday 4ish. Specific hours. We have been excited to revisit since Covid shut them down for longer then normal. Walked in, sign says "grab a menu and find a place to sit" we do that. Hardy anyone in the place. We sit and 3 other tables flowed in. The servers never said hello, they just walked by and served the patrons that came in behind us. As being in the industry, I do have patience but not for ignorance and disrespect! I know the owners would not appreciate this service. Needless to say we left with no acknowledgement. Our last experience before Covid was absolutely fabulous!
google avatar

Doug H.

Yelp
Super great staff...friendly and helpful. Very family friendly. And the food was perfect....we had some great burgers and fries and a perfect view of the Toutle River from high above, sitting out on the back deck on a hot summer afternoon.
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
The waitress was super not friendly! She didn't check on us unless we asked for something. Didn't give refills and just overall was horrible service
google avatar

Yelp
Coming back from Mt ST Helen's this Grill is on the way back to I-5. Outdoor seating and patio seating. We had a great server, Katharine, who made our family outing special - we had two burgers and kid meal - the food was great and we will be back for sure !

Yelp
Fire Mt Grill, best burger ever! Toasted bun, generous juicy all beef patty, crisp green Romain Lettuce leaf, sweet red tomato, sliced mild white onion, dill pickles, and all the mayo/mustard/ketchup you need. These delouse burgers all come with a mountain of in-house made potato chips. I am not a chip fan, but I loved these as they were crisp and not greasy! There are many variations of their burger on the menu, Beef, Chicken, Elk, Bison, and Vegetarian! Fire Mt Grill is everything you want a roadside mountain restaurant to be. The onetime small cabin perched above the North Fork Toutle River has become a cozy knotty pine lined restaurant. Large "Big Foot" silk screens are hung on the walls between the windows with views of the river below and surrounding wooded hills. You can sit inside on tall stools with wood slab tabletops, near the old fireplace, or outside at assorted size picnic tables under the covered veranda the circles around the back and end of the building overlooking the river. Dog friendly! Your dog is welcome to join you outside on the veranda also. For the road trip they have snacks to go, T shirts, and sweatshirts available. Don't forget to have dessert, you can get one to go for later too! They are known for their cobbler! You can also have it warm and/or with ice cream!

Yelp
Mixed review here. Vegans & DF folks beware - their vegan burger is not vegan unless you ask for no bun. The bun has milk ingredients in it. I didn't realize this until after I received my meal - I asked the server to double check and she confirmed that the buns have dairy. Thankfully they were very nice about it and remade my meal (I have a serious dairy allergy). It is dangerous and unethical to serve something labeled vegan that is not vegan, which is why I dropped two stars. Otherwise our experience was fine, my partner loved his meal and lemonade!
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
The food was amazing!! This was the perfect stop after a day at Mt St. Helens and we would go back if we are in the area. Chili, burgers, fries and of course the cobbler are all recommended items!

Cindy S.

Yelp
Beautiful little place. So warm and welcoming and the view was spectacular! Food was delicious- oh my the blackberry cobbler!!
google avatar

Debra S.

Yelp
I wish I could give it a 5+! This is a must stop place to eat. A bit off the beaten path but well worth the 10 minute drive off the 5. Everything us good. Went for lunch and will return tomorrow. Make sure to try the cobbler!!

Yelp
Coming in from the road you don't think too much about it but then you walk in it's very cozy, very quiet; the view from the patio is beautiful. Had the volunteer at bottom of visitor center not suggested it we would have missed it. And we still almost did We went on a very slow day as I saw there were extra seating available outside on the side and everything was empty. I believe it was one other party and ours in the entire restaurant, I would assume it gets much more busier as the Mt St. Helene's visitors come down. We chose to sit in the patio and it was beautiful however there were so many bees!! They should really have someone come and look for nests under the patio. Service was great my Lemonade was absolutely delicious and our food was so good. I got the fire side burger and she did warn me it was SPICY, and boy was it *****SPICY*****. My husband was absolutely pleased with his food as well. We do plan on visiting the volcano again, and this will be included on our itinerary. The lemonade alone has me wanting to go back already. Hopefully with less bees.

Vicki E.

Yelp
We heard at Mt Saint Helens that this was the place to stop and eat on the way back down the mountain. No kidding!! Great food and awesome service. Pulled pork sandwich and Caesar chicken wrap were both wonderful. I loved the side of cayenne Cole slaw. And the peach cobbler!! Too bad it's so far from home. It , also, was nice weather to sit yon the deck overlooking the river.

Yelp
Took a day trip to Mount St Helen's and saw this place on the way up the mountain. Decided to stop on our way home. We loved this little place. The waitress was amazing - thanks for the cobbler and huckleberry ice cream hook up. The chili had a nice kick to it. The black and blue burger was the best I've ever eaten. Just enough blackening spice to start to clear your sinuses without torching your mouth, the right amount of melted blue cheese to let you know it's there without overwhelming the rest of the flavors, and perfectly caramelized onions. The Orange Whip was a nice citrusy light lager. Oh, and I almost forgot the house made potato chips that were perfectly salted. I told the waitress (sorry I didn't get your name) that I don't give five star reviews unless a place has good bathrooms. She said she'd take 4 stars, hadn't had a chance to check restrooms after recent tour bus group left. No worries, the tour bus must have been full of neat freaks. If you head out to Mount St Helen's and are looking for reasonably priced, hot off the grill food and a nice cold one, you won't go wrong stopping at the Fire Mountain Grill

Yelp
Outstanding! Amazing views, healthy and high quality food (love the salad with fresh warm chicken) and the best dessert. I normally don't enjoy cobblers but this was so good we ordered seconds. Also, the service was out of this world. I wish we could take them to SoCal!

Tom N.

Yelp
This is our favorite lunch spot. Good people, good burgers, and great cobbler! And eating on the back porch is ideal.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Wonderful Service and kind Staff. The Fish and Chips were awesome! Nice and crispy and had great flavor.

Summer A.

Yelp
Friendly staff, good food and a beautiful view. Club Sandwich was delicious and the fried pickles were so good.
google avatar

Dave T.

Yelp
Good food and very accommodating staff. Beautiful outdoor seating. Pricey but what isn't nowadays. Save room for the cobbler.
google avatar

Holly M.

Yelp
After a long day of sightseeing, we stumbled across this great little place. We had a party of 6 and they were able to accommodate us immediately. It was their second day being open for the season so the menu was not complete. Our server was able to answer our questions about where their Elk was sourced from and any other questions we had. Everything we ordered (and we literally ordered everything on the menu) was delicious. The chicken and dumplings were hot and fresh, the burgers all cooked exactly the way we ordered and the fries were super crunchy and tasty. We will be back when we are visiting in this area again! And if you are traveling through, give this little roadside place a try. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This was a great place to have lunch before going up to Mount Saint Helen Johnston Ridge Observatory. We had a delightful meal and were honored to have Verna, general manager for the restaurant sit and visit with us. With our good conversations we enjoyed delicious chili, and Caesar salad wraps

Yelp
It's an expensive restaurant in my opinion. I got the Bison Burger and it does not come with cheese ($1.50 extra) and Beer Battered Fries ($2 extra) are extra Now the good part: those Beer battered fries are awesome and worth it :-). The kettle chips are awesome (home cooked) and have a fresh unique taste. The volcano burger is just awesome. The Bison burger not good... I should have asked for volcano burger with Bison or Elk meat as I wanted to try those meats :-). Quick with their orders and the person who took our orders was patient and helpful. I would go there again if I am visiting St. Helens. (the menu on their website is off: they don't have Captain Lunch platter which was my first choice).
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
The view from the patio eating area was wonderful. We walked inside where the gift shop and history of the volcano were and asked to sit outside to eat. The waitress was very nice but I think she was a little overwhelmed with the amount of people that came in. It took a good 8-10 min to get our drink order in and another 6-8 to get it on the table. I ordered the club sandwich with beer battered fries. Both were wonderful and there was plenty for two people. The meat was very fresh and the fries were crisp and tasty. We also had the lava cake...just get it. It's great. No need to explain. It's awesome. They have a few flavored teas and the huckleberry was very good. They offer helicopter tours starting at $187 per person. I would return for the views and a drink.

Yelp
This was a great little find! I didn't expect to see a restaurant of this size on the way to Mt St Helens. Everything else nearby seemed run down or out of business. I got the chicken bacon wrap which was very good. Their homemade potato chips were also some of the best. Not too crunchy. The view off the back patio was beautiful!
google avatar

Lauren Y.

Yelp
Awesome view if you sit outside! Doesn't get better than that. Food however, is eh and overpriced. I had the turkey sandwich with kettle chips ($12) very small with only a few pieces of turkey. A few tomatoes and two pieces of lettuce. I could have eaten two whole sandwiches. Literally. Date had the special, philly cheesesteak and fries. He was pleased and said it was tasty... but not for $16.99. $6 for a corona, made our bill $42 for lunch with tax and tip. Cute place, and food is decent, but plan to eat an hour later and leave with your wallet much lighter. I will not be back but it was worth the one time trip while we were out exploring.

Dawn R.

Yelp
The food is great with wonderful service. Sit out on the patio and enjoy the view of the river.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Awesome place to stop when visiting Mt. Saint Helen's. A really great owner and you cannot beat the view off of the back porch. A really good discovery and I guess a new location too. The cobbler is pretty damn good. Had a good time teasing the owner that they didn't have any of the beers they advertised, not a one. So don't let the signs, the logos on the pint glasses or even the napkin dispenser fool you or get you worked up....
google avatar

Glenn T.

Yelp
Absolutely no complaints. Was way better than wat I expected. I had BLT and salad. Salad was very impressive. Mixed greens, broccoli, carrots, cherry tomatoes. Bacon was good & plentiful. The view was spectacular. Didn't make it to the bathrooms so no mention here. Definitely will return!!

Angela R.

Yelp
Excellent! Great food, service and atmosphere. Stopped here on the way back from hiking on Mt St Helen's. Perfect end to the day trip!

Wes A.

Yelp
Nice little place on the way back from Mt Rainier to Portland. Go for the Elk burger and strawberry lemonade.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Great experience! The food was wonderful and the view is spectacular. We had a group of 30, and were waited on very efficiently. Our waitress even took the time to tell the group about the history of the restaurant and facts about the area. This is a must stop of you're in the area!
google avatar

Beejay W.

Yelp
Visiting from Texas, my family and I were NOT disappointed. Food was great. Portion size was great. Kids meals would have probably been enough for me! Staff was friendly and attentive. My husband and oldest child had the elk burgers which disappeared in only a few minutes.
google avatar

Maria K.

Yelp
Stopped by this cute restaurant on the way back from a visit to Mount Saint Helens. Loved the VEGGIE BURGER, House made vegan sweet potato & black bean burger on a kaiser bun served w/ house kettle chips. It was surprisingly tasty and I will definitely be back to have it again. Great view too!
google avatar

Casey E.

Yelp
What a lovely place with a wonderful view. Food was very good and the waitstaff attentive. Huckleberry ice cream was better than the view!!
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
This place is golden. Best french fries ever. Excellent club sandwich. Beautiful bison burger. Spectacular caramel apple cobbler. Great customer service. Don't pass this one by, go with an empty stomach.
google avatar

Bobby M.

Yelp
The staff are really nice but the food is catagorically awful. The "Chicken and Dumplings" is actually a cheese soup with chicken cubes small bread pieces. Not what I expected when I ordered it. On top of that it made me sick. I miss what the place used to be with the original owners. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
google avatar

Ronald J A.

Yelp
We have eaten at this restaurant for the past three summers. In the past it has been fair to good. Not great by any stretch. We decided to drive up and give it a try yesterday. (5/22/2018) One word. Mistake. The food didn't come out as ordered and the quality was terrible. Breads were soggy, meat either reheated or over cooked to the point of having no flavor. Extremely over priced for what you get. Cheese burger and fries came in at $13.75. And that was a small burger to boot. This past winter in Maui a 1/2 lb burger with a load of fries was priced at 12 bucks and much better quality. The place also seemed to be running in a very confused order. Not good. Hopefully they will get their act together but don't count on it.
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
Sad commentary on greed. Despite calling ahead, we were not "allowed" to eat there because a tour bus was in, and another expected. Obviously some contract with tour companies is more important than actual service. Either you are open, or you are not. No signs were placed out, the open sign said open, but only if you are in a tour bus. Reminds me of "insert ethnic group here, need not apply". I will not return.
google avatar

Mallorie S.

Yelp
We stopped in after our backpacking trip near Cold Water Lake. We just wanted a beer and snack. The service was amazing (Katherine S, per my receipt). When we asked for just some fries or snack type food she brought a basket of fries w/ a dill/garlic dipping sauce & a basket of chips with spicy dipping sauce. The cider and lager were delish too. Their out door COVID seating was perfect too. We found a bench under the trees where we could enjoy listening to the kiddos down at the river having a blast. This place is a jewel of a find & we can't wait to stop in again.
google avatar

T R.

Yelp
The cheeseburger I had at this place made my eyes roll back in my head. Friendly service, great view by the river, and a menu with healthy options were all nice,BUT THE CHEESEBURGER! My friend and I chose a side salad instead of fries till our other friend's plate arrived with gorgeous beer battered fries and we immediately added a side. We live over 2 hrs away but we all decided we might have to make the drive again for the...you know what I'm going to say. Worth it!!!

John F.

Yelp
My wife and I love going to this place. Food is great as well as the service!! The views are not bad either (they are fantastic!)... Love the elk burger and the homemade chips.. Only complaint (LOL), is they are not open all year. . 5 stars PLUS..
google avatar

Machiko S.

Yelp
I was riding "down" from a visit to Mt. St. Helens. The temp was hot and headwind made it challenging to keep going (because the road wasn't all down). Then saw "Restaurant" flags! The servers (and assuming owners) were sooo nice to me. They don't have a drinking fountain, so they brought me Pepsi in a cup with lots of ice, the way I liked. I wanted to try their elk burger, but my body could only take a half sandwich. Kettle chips (that they make there) were crunchy and great! I'll definitely come back :-).
google avatar

Eli B.

Yelp
I was stunned and very happy with my burger today!! I would describe the bun as like a croissant; it was lighting flaky, buttery and a really nice hint of sweet that complimented the burger. The meat was cooked perfect and tasted fresh and had a nice lite seasoning that balanced well. The fries were boring standard fare. But I didn't need them after a great burger. I also enjoyed a cold beer. And what a deal they have. Order a beer (it's all bottled) and add a souvenir glass for an additional $2. Or buy one for $5. I'll eat here again, but I'd encourage them to put more thought into the side dishes. French fries are a waste. Maybe homemade chips, or potato salad? Then I'll up my stars.
google avatar

Ashley N.

Yelp
Seriously one of the best burgers my husband and I have ever had! Combine that with their homemade cobbler and we were in heaven! Seems like they were closing down for the winter season, and combine that with a recent move to this location and they had several reasons to not deliver on a great meal. But they absolutely did!! The burger patty was perfectly seasoned, crispy bacon and a soft toasted bun! Mmmm delicious!!! And the views from patio were incredible! Definite must stop if your passing by on your way up or down the mountain! I will be craving that burger months from now back in California .... sigh.....
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
The dumplings are AMAZING. Oh my gosh. So good! The dish was so fancy, too. The dumplings were homemade with cheese in them, and the sauce was delicious. My husband had a burger, and I wanted to steal it. We split the cobbler. Best. Cobbler. Ever. This was an amazing find. We were leaving from camping near Mt. St. Helens, and we needed lunch. I'm so glad we stopped.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Food was excellent (beer battered fries - yum!), Service was outstanding (super friendly), location was fantastic (dining outside overlooking and listening to the beautiful river). After also having an amazing day at Mt St Helens, this topped it off. Will be making this short day trip, including this place, a regular routine for whenever we have visitors here in Portland!
