Andy’s Pizza Expands to Foggy Bottom — And More Openings | Eater DC

"I visited Fireclay, the new lobby‑level restaurant at Hotel Washington, where chef de cuisine Israel Lopez‑Albarracin mans an Argentine‑style grill and two stone ovens to produce dishes like wood‑grilled wagyu New York strip with clarified‑butter steak fries and charred broccolini, ash‑crusted yellowfin tuna crudo, a bone‑in pork chop, and starters such as an orange duet salad with burrata; the bar leans bold with cocktails like a smoked Old Fashioned featuring jerk‑infused Bacardi Diez and a pinot‑noir reduction and an Amalfi Rickey with charred rosemary." - Tierney Plumb

Stayed at the hotel recently and was given a $15 credit daily for Fireclay. The first night we got a dessert from the lobby bar, but the second day I decided to try out breakfast. I ordered the açaí bowl to go and had to throw most of it away. It was like a melted smoothie with a soupy, liquid consistency. I only ate the fresh fruit even though it was covered in the “soup.” It looked and tasted nothing like the description. The desserts we got, chocolate mousse & creme brûlée, were excellent, but they were presented a different way each time, one time without the chocolate sauce, one time with crunchy pearls, etc. depending on who was working that day. The workers at the lobby bar in the evenings were fantastic and kind though.

We enjoyed breakfast at this sleek hotel restaurant, we ordered red velvet waffles with chicken and waffle with fruit and yogurt! The waffles were light and fluffy and everything was tasty and delicious! My only gripe is that it was just me and my daughter and they charged us a 20% service charge I wasn’t expecting that with 2 people! But the service was good! I like to decide for myself what I tip!!

We dined here for breakfast while staying at Hotel Washington. While I cannot speak of anything but breakfast, it was delicious.

Attended a private event, and fireclay epitomizes fine dining in every sense. We started the culinary journey with a welcome drink of champagne and their must-try Kingston Old Fashioned. The intimate and refined atmosphere, characterized by careful interior design, elegant table settings, and subtle lighting, truly elevated the entire dining experience. My favorite dish of the night for me was the Cured Duck Margret, a charred artichoke hear with parmesan flake and truffle oil (absolute perfection!). This was followed by perfectly cooked prawns and prime ribeye, each dish expertly seasoned to perfection. Throughout the evening, we were attentively taken care of by Mateo and Alem. Chef Gray personally enlightened us about the dishes, and Manager Bryon ensured our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. A must spot in PennQuarter!!!

We had dinner at this DC treasure after a long day of sightseeing, what a delight! The server realized we were fatigued and offered us complimentary tea as we waited. The lamb was properly prepared, and the atmosphere was extremely welcoming. It felt like home.

Google
Awful. 8 of us walk in to an empty lobby bar area and order quick lunch. 4 of us get our food after about 30 minutes. The other 4 wait, and wait, and wait...kitchen got slammed, your slip got lost, not my fault, etc, etc...didnt want to waste the afternoon in DC waiting to be fed mediocre bar food. Highly overpriced, especially considering they'll steal your whole afternoon with no apologies.

Without question the worst quality expensive steaks I've ever had. One of them was one of the worst steaks I've ever had of any cost. The other was far over cooked so the quality of the meat, even if it'd been excellent, was overwhelmed. I ordered medium rare both times and got one medium and one medium well. They give you a tiny amount of mashed potatoes and then smear it across the plate so the mashed potatoes are almost instantly cold. Their non-alcoholic drink selection, as far as sodas go, was extremely limited. Everything in the place is extremely expensive. Terrible dining experience for dinner. Breakfast for me was the oatmeal with fruit. It's quite good, the fruit was fresh and you get a lot of it. Just that, with no drink other than water, was almost the only thing I could afford on my $20 breakfast per diem. They put a 20% tip on every meal regardless of how many people there are and while it's not entirely hidden, it certainly isn't stated clearly and obviously enough to be considered ethical. However, the staff I interacted with absolutely deserve it. Every staff member I interacted with at The Fireclay/Hotel Washington was excellent in every way. Great people. Terrible dining and cost.

Yelp
Came here for a mid week lunch and ordered the pumpkin farro risotto but added chicken. The meal was so good and the flavors were very balanced. They offer still or sparkling water ($10) with the meal and service was very good. I would recommend.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the lobby of Hotel Washington. When you check in, you're given two 15.00 vouchers. I went down to breakfast (because I had the vouchers, of course) and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the omelette, which included a side and home fries. The home fries were a little too crispy but the omelette was huge and delicious. The coffee is excellent. The bill will include a 20 percent gratuity. The total for a breakfast for 1 was 34.00 after the coupon and tax I believe the bill was under 20.00. All and all not a bad deal for a hearty breakfast.

Yelp
Located inside Hotel Washington. It's an easy reasturant alternative to stop in after a busy day in the capital. I ate here twice. But my main incentive to do so, is they offered a $15 dollar voucher to use only for Fireclay upon check-in. Nice way to lock in guests, I suppose, lol. Food - On my first visit, I had the crab cake sandwich. Comes with fries. Well seasoned crab cake. But it's a very skinny patty for the cost. The second time around, I had the burger, and it also came with fries, medium well. It was juicy and is double meat, so it's pretty filling. The cocktail menu is very limited. There are only 3 drinks on it. Luckily, it's an open bar, and they can make any cocktail. They also have a large wine/beer selection. That seems to be more of the priority. My house Rita I ordered was fine, minus the price $22, yikes. Service - I had the same server both times, Youseff. He was efficient enough, not much small talk, but I was fine with this. And he honored my voucher. They don't have a happy hour.

Yelp
Really nice, clean and elegant interior. I came here on a rainy day from traveling. My guest tried the breakfast. We all had different things and thought the food was just ok and a little expensive for what we ordered ( Omelet meal, eggs Benedict, chicken and waffles and a croissant sandwich). The orange was $6 a glass which is expensive. The service was not bad as well.

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing experience. I flew into DC from Vegas for one day for a conference. I didn't get in until 8:30 PM and thank goodness this place was still open in the hotel, I was starving, and boy did Fireclay deliver. First the restaurant is beautiful. Second the drinks and food are amazing. We had the chips and guacamole to start, then had the crab cake sandwich and lobster roll. The flavor was on point, there was a generous portion of lobster and the bread was buttery and soft. The drinks were great we all had a round and everyone has good portions. The icing on the cake was our incredible server, Julian, he made our night!! We had all had a long day of travel and Julian's service was over the top! We didn't have to ask for anything he was just there and already had everything we needed. He was fun and personable but professional at the same time. Me coming from Vegas, and having worked in restaurants for over 20 years, always have a high expectation of service and Julian exceeded my expectations. I so appreciate his kindness and for creating such a fun and memorable time for me and my colleagues. We will definitely come back here on our next round to DC.

Yelp
Let me tell you about Omar. Omar waited on us this morning at breakfast and he is what I would call a Die Hard American. He loves the USA and his enthusiasm carries into his job. He made our morning so positive. The food was good and Omar makes a mean espresso martini and bloody mary. We had coffee too. We will be back later to hang out with Omar. We love his positive personality.

Yelp
Drinks are great. The vibe in the bar and restaurant are serene. The place was pretty much empty when we went so it must be brand new...

Yelp
We had the lobster Mac and cheese which was loaded with lobster and was delicious. Truffle fries were hot and tasty. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We also appreciated the Niciose Salad. Where they used a piece of seared tuna which gave it a subtle smoked flavor. Our server had a welcoming smile was courteous and attentive. We were there during lunch so it was nice and quiet. I would recommend this restaurant anytime!
