"After a fire in April 2022 punched a hole in the roof of Firefish Grill, owner Mark Gilbert gave the restaurant some updates and now it’s returning (tentatively) on June 20, the Mercury News reports. Expect a few new items on the menu, such as a clam chowder option, according to the paper." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
Good food with large portions, good colorful cocktails, quick and polite service, and good views sums up this restaurant. It can get busy on the weekends and there will be some waiting if you want a view. The calamari was very good. Ample parking around, so you can check out the pier easily.

Google
Quick, friendly service and amazing seafood options. Came here with my family and had an amazing experience. Definitely recommend this spot

Google
It's an amazing place to get fresh seafood. I got the salmon, and it was by far the best I've ever had! I also had the lobster tail, and that was also pretty incredible. Also, don't skip on the crab cakes. Those are amazing as well! The service, on the other hand, wasn't the best. They forgot our crab cakes when that was the first thing we had ordered, and it wasn't until we already got our main dishes before we realized they hadn't even made it, and we had to request them to bring us one even after they realized they forgot it. They also messed up the salad, and we had to send it back for a new one.

Google
For $28.00, this fantastic dish is named after the restaurant itself: “Firefish Grill.” There are skewered and grilled shrimp, scallops, salmon, fresh fish, bell pepper and onion. Served with rice pilaf. For dessert they suggested “Ice Cream Sunday,” which was not on the menu. Good decision, it was delicious and only cost $6.00. The only drawback was the price of Coca-Cola Zero, close to the price of dessert. Other than that, everything was great! The waitress was very friendly, fast and respectful when serving. Thank you Amara! The sea views are wonderful. The place is bright, pleasant and quiet. Next time I'm in Santa Cruz, I'll definitely make a stop at Firefish Grill!

Google
The Calamari dish was great. Sand dab was tasty but small and, hence, overpriced. They charged us for the garlic bread that we didn't order, lucky we noticed. All in all, nice view, decent food and service but nothing to call home about.

Google
A great atmosphere on the wharf. We had a great window table. The food was delicious. Restaurant located on the Santa Cruz Wharf, offers delightful seafood dishes. An excellent choice for seafood lovers. We enjoyed our fish and chips and calamari. Ocean view, tasty food what we need 😀👍

Google
Had a delicious steam cod meal. Really tasty, large portion (for a woman 😄) and really good seasoned. Potatoes were perfectly soft. Nice view of the church from the restaurant.

Google
The lightly breaded snapper was good, garlic bread crunchy but not greasy. It's got a high class atmosphere without high class prices. The only nonalcoholic beverages I found were tea and water tho, which was fine as I had coffee from the candyshop up the pier.

Yelp
Food and service is amazing! In my humble opinion it has the best calamari on the wharf. My family just got appetizers, but we could not stop ordering the oysters because they were so good. I definitely recommend if you want fresh seafood and a good view of the ocean.

Marcus L.

Yelp
Probably among the nicest places to eat on the pier. Staff was friendly and portions were generous. Ocean views available and most seats had some sort of view. Food was good though perhaps not 'fine dining' level. Everyone enjoyed their food.

Vidyadhar D.

Yelp
Fresh and bright ambiance, with ocean vibes. The Oceanside takes get a great view during daylight We sat at the bar stools earlier and moved to the tables. The bar staff wasn't too "welcoming " in their demeanor, they were shoving used glasses up in our faces. The waitress at the table was really friendly and warm, once we moved to our table.

Yelp
Fire Fish Grill on the Santa Cruz Pier is a great choice for dinner! From the impeccable service to the mouthwatering dishes and refreshing drinks, every aspect of our dining experience was top-notch. Plus, the beautiful view of the water added an extra touch of magic to our meal. The clam chowder was a standout - creamy with perfectly chopped clams, it was a seafood lover's dream. The Fisherman's Pasta was cheesy and packed with an abundance of seafood, while the Crab Louie salad was fresh and invigorating. Generous portions across all dishes ensured we left satisfied, and the crispy fries with delicious ranch dressing were the perfect accompaniment. Fire Fish Grill is a true culinary delight that guarantees a memorable dining experience amidst a stunning seaside backdrop.

Yelp
Fire Fish Grill is the most upscale restaurant on the Santa Cruz pier. This is the second time I've been and the quality of fish is still fresh and delicious. The restaurant can fit large parties in their dining area and can host a baby shower or large party celebration. They also have a nice bar area for quick bites and small parties. The views of the ocean and birds flying is entertaining while you enjoy your food. Their service was great and they have a lot of staff to assist you with what you need! Look forward to coming back again!

Danielle F.

Yelp
We got the seafood kabob, oysters and the big Mai tai bowl drink. I really liked the service, we ordered the bread basket and the waiter was very nice and kept checking on us. The oysters were fresh, and tasty. The view from the restaurant is very beautiful since you're on the wharf. Usually little to no wait time to be seated. Whenever we're on the wharf my family always goes here. We love the food and the vibe.

Melodie M.

Yelp
You really can't go wrong with eating on the Santa Cruz pier- our view was primo- just incredible! On a weekend night, Firefish was able to seat us without any reservation and without any wait time at all. I ordered the crab cake dinner, two large cakes which were served over perfectly creamy risotto. The beurre blanc sauce was delicious, and the crab cakes were still crispy on the outside. I loved the textures of each bite. These were my most favorite crab cakes so far in life, though the view and the company certainly enhanced the experience! I would 100% order these again. Loved the giant hanging sculpture as we walked in.

Su V.

Yelp
Great customer service and food was delicious! Atmosphere with window seating was amazing! My only complaint, was the that the chowder was very good until I bit into one of their OVER seasoned croutons, love me some old school oyster crackers so the flavor of the clam chowder doesn't get overpowered!

Jon G.

Yelp
Not "perfect", but pretty good. Had the fresh catch one night and the fish and chips the other. Fresh catch was petrale sole and it was beyond amazing. The fried pacific snapper was really delicious, but the "chips" tasted a bit freezer burnt. My wife had the sand dabs and they were incredible. So, it's really something you have to try and try again given the opportunity. I guarantee, you'll find more than enough items on the menu to fall in love with.

Amy M.

Yelp
Everything about this lunch was amazing. From the views, to the service but especially the food. My daughter and I shared a bowl of clam chowder. BIG MISTAKE! Eat your own bowl! BEST clam chowder I've had, maybe ever. My daughter got the halibut fish and chips and I got the giant fried prawns and fries. All of it was cooked to perfection and tasted great. This will be our spot from now on. The server took the time to talk with us about where we are from and another nice lady who sat us was very pleasant to talk with as well.

David B.

Yelp
I thought about having the jambalaya but then noticed on the menu that it was with pasta. Jambalaya should have rice. So I went with the seafood platter instead. This was a huge pile of panko-fried food, mostly calamari (both the rings and the squiggly bits) which was all excellently cooked. So were the two very large prawns. The equally enormous scallops, however, were undercooked. Also on the plate were two pieces of grilled (not coated) fish, snapper and salmon, which were a bit overcooked. As a plate of fried calamari (and shrimp) it couldn't be beat, but I did wish afterwards that I had ordered something else a bit less large, less heavy, and less fried. I also had a cup of clam chowder, which was not large and was quite adequate with clams and cream. Views from a window seat out over the harbor on a cool sunny day were a real plus, as was very considerate service.

Scott H.

Yelp
This restaurant is getting an unusual five-star review. I say unusual, because fishing pier and tourist area restaurants don't usually do so well in my book. I had the grilled seafood platter and my friend had the steak. Both were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The mixed green salad exceeded expectations. The blue cheese salad dressing tasted homemade. The french fries were fresh and crispy, and I did not have to request them extra crispy. For dessert both my friend and I had creme brulee. The serving size was the largest I've ever had in a restaurant. It too tasted fantastic. Service also exceeded expectations. My diet Coke glass was always full. And the busser cleared dirty plates the second to the last particle of food was removed. All in all, I'd say the service was exceptional. And I love the ambiance. We were seated at an unusual table with both positions facing outward toward the window. Initially we laughed because it almost felt like we were on a two judge panel in a courtroom. But it turned out to be an excellent arrangement. We had a fantastic view of the Santa Cruz Bay and the seating area was comfortable and not cramped. Parking on the pier was super cheap. It was a little drizzly outside, so being able to park right outside the door of the restaurant, that was ultra convenient. A rare experience, I have zero complaints or concerns. I would definitely eat here again and I recommend tourist and locals alike give this place a shot. I'm glad I was not put off by the low Yelp score.

Jasmin S.

Yelp
Beautiful view of the water and very clean restaurant. The service was smooth. I had oysters and clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl.

Quin B.

Yelp
I thought it was pretty good! The clam chowder bowl was way too big. I could only finish half. The the jambalaya was delicious! It had a Nice kick to it. I finished the pasta. Sat by the window seat and watched the ocean and seagulls. I thought the service was really good. Parking can be street or on the pier. I think parking on the pier is probably cheaper. After eating we walked down further and there were so many sea lions. They're so cute.

Marty Z.

Yelp
I'm a long time customer of Firefish, and a local. The food is good, but I was disappointed that after asking for some dinner rolls, I noticed on the bill I was charged $3.95. I want to continue to support local businesses, but I don't like being nickel and dimed. We will still go back, but probably not as often. And we used to get the "locals specials" midweek, no longer available. Firefish used to be a good value for dinner on the Wharf, but not so much anymore.

Yelp
Location, cute exterior, reviews from Yelpers I trust- from 8 years ago. Note to self: Don't neglect to check the latest reviews. Apparently this restaurant has changed hands a couple of times and it's not what it used to be. We walked in and everyone was seated by the water. Two tables were free so I asked instead of the horseshoe banquette we were offered, could we sit by the windows? "Those tables aren't ready, it'll be a few minutes." A quick wipe down and ten seconds later, "Your table is ready." (Am I starring in Scorsese's "After Hours"?) Server didn't know where the lobster was from so I asked him to check that plus the market price and the weight - and check the market price of the halibut, too. Lobster was from Maine- and it wasn't a whole lobster as listed on the menu but a lobster tail (only) so I decided to pass and ordered the crab cake (which was burnt) and immediately our mains arrive. They realize the timing is silly and put my plate under a heat lamp. My son's pork chop was not at temperature which I noticed after he'd eaten most of it (was very undercooked) and my halibut fish & chips was not halibut. I had three small bites and two tiny tastes of coleslaw to moisten my mouth. It was that dry. The server was apologetic and offered something else but my son had long finished his main. They could've at least offered to take my entree off the bill. When I saw the manager walking towards us I girded myself for an uncomfortable conversation but he kept walking. When I got back to our hotel, I waited 90 minutes to reflect then called American Express and disputed the charge. I don't think I've ever done that before.

Yelp
Great service, wonderful food. We Will definitely be returning. Clam chowder and the fish n chips were delicious and the garlic cheese bread was simply scrumptious!!

Jonnita W.

Yelp
I'm providing a three stars pretty much for the food appearance and the taste of our meal choice. Wishing that I could ride at least another star even five stars around the entrance approach to the check-in podium and our experience sitting down waiting to be asked if we've been helped yet at the bar seating. We sat at the bar mainly because it would have been a 25 minute wait to be seated at an actual table. It was at least an additional 5 to 7 minutes before we were acknowledged and then asked if we had been helped. The bartender working this particular day continued shaking the drinks and walking by us talking to his fellow coworkers then another gentleman that would bust the tables walk by us and continue having conversation with the bartender a third gentleman. Finally, we were sitting there, asked us if we had been helped yet, we both replied. He then proceeded to hand us menus and asked us how we were. Once he engaged with us, but only from him. As I was eating my mail, I noticed to look like the manager on duty at the time standing and playing eyesight, but did not notice him walking around asking how the current customers in the area we're doing he would just proceed to straighten up the menus and stand and observe. We chose to eat at this particular location because it was not on the boardwalk and we had walked past his location during other visits into Santa Cruz. And finally decided to stop in, and see how things were. The ambience was packed. People were continuing to wait in order to enjoy their meals. The restrooms could have been tended to a little bit more, but it did not make or break as much as the customer service from here. Again, I do give credit to our food and the chefs that prepared our two course meal

Chyann Y.

Yelp
variety of foods to pick from! food was alright, presentation was okay, underwhelming. Scenery was great! Oysters were okay they were big, i thought they would be local but it was not!

Ray T.

Yelp
I was so disappointed when I learned they had a fire that caused the temporary closure. I visit Santa Cruz quite often and this has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The cioppino never disappoints. The previous vibe was "old school" fish house but it has been redone in a beautiful modern design. We were greeted immediately and were seated with an ocean view table. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and checked on us often. I ordered the cioppino and it was awesome. My only critique was the crab was the snow crab variety and not Dungeness crab. The portion size was perfect. My cousin ordered prawns over pasta with a pesto sauce. She said it was very good. I love this place and will definitely continue to visit.

Olee L.

Yelp
Good service, tasty food. Fish and seafood are under seasoned. Other than that service is fast and efficient, our wait was short and the sunset view is nice. There are lots cocktails and drinks. Every table has one. Drinks and beer have no price on the menu. That I don't like. It is ok to charge me, but I shouldn't have to ask for each drink price. Parking is free after 8pm. The drive was not as fun as my meal.

Erik K.

Yelp
Edit: we've just returned, since our original feast back on Christmas night of 2021. The restaurant had a fire at one point, so this was our first time back. What a visit it was! Same amazing views, same world-class service. Our food was absolutely to die for. Mom and I had oysters to start, and the boys had garlic bread. For dinner mom had seafood pasta, I had the Seafood Rockefeller, and the boys ate from the kids menu. Everything was perfect and amazing! Last up was a creme brulee, which we all shared. We were so glad to be back. Firefish Grill is an absolute treasure at the Santa Cruz Wharf. Run...don't walk - Five star food, and a well-trained staff who are kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Great for families with young kids. We just finished dining (Christmas Day night) and had the best experience ever. We highly recommend Firefish for any dining occasion.

Yelp
First time here,as normally we head to Rivas. Went with my husband and our teen. My husband and i both had items from the locals special. I had the steak and pasta with a sherry cream sauce and capers(love a good caper) and my husband some sort of fish coquette with risotto and steamed vegetables-which he ate it all and loved it! The teen had the clam chowder and considers herself an expert on clam chowder. She wasn't too impressed and said it was watery, few clams and not too flavorful. In her opinion Phil's is still number one for clam chowder. Since I'm not a teenager and don't consider myself an expert on anything , my dish was super flavorful. The only downside was the steak strips were not tender, but what should I expect for a meal that cost $18.95‍‍ Was a great view, seemed super clean, had a very nice server, and reasonable price. A good bang for your hard earned cash. We will def go back!

Sudesna M.

Yelp
Clam chowder and Firecracker Prawns at FireFish grill is simply delicious. But what makes this place unique is the stunning views of the bay from their floor-to-ceiling windows. Try to visit during late summer evenings and you can catch a beautiful sunset with Blue Hawaiian drink in one hand!!! Another plus point about this place is they are kid friendly and they have lots of non-spicy options for kids. Great cocktails too! Must visit if you are visiting Santa Cruz beach!

Paul W.

Yelp
I grew up in Boston but due to a series of events, eventually ended up in California. I haven't been in Boston since 2018 so that's also the last time I had half-DECENT lobster. This place though? PHENOMENAL lobster rolls. WTF. Seriously, Pacific Catch? Trash. Every self-proclaimed seafood restaurant? GarBAGE. My wife even loved her shrimp/prawn dish. We're back home in Cupertino, still talking about this meal. Again...WTF. I don't even leave Yelp reviews. I simply cannot be bothered, even if the food's mid. I had to break my no-review habit for this meal. Good lord. Someday I'll make it back to Boston and make a beeline for Legal Seafoods and/or James Hook. For now though? This is my must eat spot in Santa Cruz.

Adrian L.

Yelp
Mediocre food, terrible and very inattentive service, unremarkable ambiance, and horrendous prices and value per dollar. They charge for drink refills of soda and lemonade and gave me old, unwarmed bread for my appetizer order. Stay far away from this shithole.

Chris P.

Yelp
This dinner we had here in Santa Cruz was epic. Out on the pier you will find a variety of nice restaurants and we chose Firefish Grill. The meals were perfect and extremely satisfying. My shrimp cocktail was a miss though because the shrimp was very small and almost tasteless. The cocktail sauce wasn't very good either it had no spice. The bread basket was perfect and my wife loved her pork chop. The ice cold Heineken beer looking over the ocean was incredibly relaxing. Service is great.

Katherine W.

Yelp
Overall great meal. All of the food had good to great flavor. The base in the ciopinno was very flavorful, however it could have used more crab than 1/3 a leg. It should also come with a side of garlic bread to sop up the remnants with. The salmon was cooked well and paired delightfully with the sauce, spinach, and crispy mashed potatoes. I liked the clam chowder, however I think it could use just a little more flavor and pizazz. Other photos showed it with pieces of potato on top. Plenty of perfectly cooked sourdough even to share. I ate the whole bowl. The server seemed newer, as he had to double check everything. Very sweet and attentive though. $20 for oysters on the half shell. Medium in size with tasty horseradish cocktail sauce.

Yelp
After the first half of visiting the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and riding most of the rides on a wonderful sunny and pleasantly cool Saturday morning that included the heart pounding ride on the celebrated 100 year anniversary of the Giant Dipper...make that twice...my son and I decided to walk the wharf to find lunch. As usual, it was either bar and grill or seafood for me. There were also Italian along the wharf, but we've already had Italian the evening before (didn't go well, look for my review on that!). Mexican food was also an option, but we always do Mexican food back home. So we walked past a few seafood restaurants, and I finally decided on the Firefish Grill for a lot of reasons including the fact that from the outside, the white facade and small neon lights featuring seafoods just reeks of a traditional maritime fish grotto restaurant. A really classic old fashion seafood joint visual with an upscale but not stuffy vibe. The place had just enough street appeal to set it aside from the others. My son and I were greeted with a pleasant host from whom I always request the table I like, and in this case a table next to the window, which she happily complied. The window seats look directly out to the Monterey Bay and Pacific Ocean, a very pleasant backdrop for an ocean town lunch. The restaurant wasn't very busy during this early lunch hour and it only got a little busier through our meal. But that's more a reflection on the mindset of America today after the Pandemic and other challenges that followed, than the restaurant itself. Other restaurants along the Wharf looked like thay had similarly average patronage. Nonetheless, we were greeted with a very perky waitress who obviously loved her job and did it well far and beyond your average waitresses today. And in this day and age of customer service as an afterthought, a good waitress/waiter makes all the difference. I always forget to get the names of the host and waitresses so I can't properly give them a shoutout, but shoutouts to the host and waitresses! I had my usual Fish and Chips and a Margarita, my son had a Cheeseburger, and we both shared a side of Fried Calamari. Very basic, very standard seafood (and burger in this case), but they were all delicious! The prices were fare, especially for a tourist wharf like this. Our waitress came to check on us at various times as well as other tables under her watch. There was another waitress whom I called over to take a picture of my son and me and our meal. She was more than glad to oblige, and in addition, she also pointed out the bright background of the ocean behind us and tried to adjust my phone to give better lighting and composition. She did well. Firefish Grill is definitely a place to relax and eat while you are in town enjoying the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and other venues in Santa Cruz. The restaurant is on the Wharf which at this time can be considered an escape from the crowds at the Boardwalk. But the great thing about Firefish Grill is it's very affordable in the bigger picture of the location, the host and waitresses aka customer service are exceptional. .....and oh, the food ain't too shabby either! Cheers! https://wingsdomain.pixels.com

Yelp
Hadn't been in awhile. We went last night and had clam chowder bread bowls. They were amazing. Chowder was so rich & creamy. I'll be back to my favorite seafood restaurant on the wharf soon! Thanks Firefish. Keep up the great work.

Michael C.

Yelp
Zachary was a fine server with just the right amount of conversation and politeness. He made a recommendation I went with and was not disappointed. The window tables were exceptional and had great views of the point and lighthouse. Pay to park on the wharf was convenient. The fish (Sole) was super delicious and the pork chop cooked to perfection. Both had delightful sauces and the veggies were freshly steamed. Highly recommend - little pricey, but acceptable.

Ally N.

Yelp
The food was good. Servers were friendly and quick. Me and my man loved the bread bowls and the fried calamari :)

Aneida R.

Yelp
The clam chowder is no joke! Croutons are usually more decorative than tasty for me...I usually pick them off. Not here! They are soo tasty, I almost asked for more! If the croutons were good, can you imagine the chowder. The rest of the meal and dishes was also very good and excellent portions! A must try when in Santa Cruz!

Alex H.

Yelp
The food was SO good here, the calamari was out of this world. The views from inside this place of the ocean are gorgeous and service is so nice. The drinks are a bit strong but I can't complain about that.

Diana M.

Yelp
(Light Lunches)$16.95 Top plate was the Cajun Snapper, rice pilaf, vegetables (Mesquite Charcoal Broiled)$26.95 Bottom plate Fresh Salmon, mashed potato pancake, spinach For the price and amount of food was AMAZING & DELICIOUS

Alex P.

Yelp
Ate dinner here tonight (a Tuesday off night). Restaurant and decor are nice. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. Wife had the clam chowder bread bowl, which was very good. I had the steak pasta (in sherry sauce) weeknight special. It was absolutely excellent, and the portion was enormous. The kids had the kids plate fish and chips, which they both ate up. I thought the fish and chips were a bit bland, but it wasn't for me. Overall, this meal exceeded expectations. No place on the wharf is going to be a cheap meal so if you're desiring or expecting that, go elsewhere!

Grace T.

Yelp
Sad to say the food wasn't that great but you get a very nice view of the ocean by the window. The waiters a bit condescending since we weren't dressed nice but the drink I had which was Mai Tai Was really good! Price was a ok but I wish they treat customers better and the order correctly since r my son asked for French fries and was given mashed potatoes instead for the side order. I might try the other resto next door the next time I come visit that area.

Mitch M.

Yelp
beautiful setting gross food. Fish and chip's went great, Cesar salad was inedible. Another Santa Cruz tourist trap. staff was friendly at least.

Juan D.

Yelp
We can down to Santa Cruz for Woodies on the Wharf. Just hung out at the bar and it was great. I think I may have had thee best Mojito ever. Also it was Enricos first day. I requested Enrico make my 2nd Mojito , 5 hours in his first day. Ordered calamari and garlic bread. Garlic bread could've had cheese on all of the slices, but was good. Calamari was delicious, but oil in deep drier needed to be changed. It was a good time.

P T.

Yelp
The food was really yummy. My friend frequents this place and has always enjoyed her food. I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Bowl, which was the perfect size for me. I think a heartier eater may need an appetizer. It was listed under the "lighter lunch" options. The service was amazing. Cyprus really took care of us - and didn't bat an eye when I spilled my iced tea all over the table, being a total clumsy loser. Someone else came to wipe up the table because - again - I knocked over the glass. SORRY. We had a table right by the window, so we could look out at the ocean. Of course, that's why we come to restaurants on the wharf!!! Parking for the almost three hours I was there was $7, which I felt was fair, considering I paid $21 in SF the other day. HA. $7 felt like a bargain. There was street parking further away for those looking to save some money and get more steps. After lunch, we took some time to walk around, check out the ocean and the sea life (check out that pose in the photo), and buy some candy at Marini's.

Juan G.

Yelp
!!DO NOT EAT HERE!! Food was horrible and definitely not worth the price. If you like eating unseasoned food, then this is the place for you. None of our food was seasoned at all. Some of our dishes where also forgotten. The diet soda we ordered was as flat as flat earth conspirators. The service could have been better as our server came once to ask how we where doing. Overall this place is truly horrible and the biggest red flag is the 15 kitchen workers standing around forgetting to season your food even a little.

Marcy A.

Yelp
Arrived and we were seated right away. Twenty minutes there before we were offered water AFTER another party was seated and given water. Yet another party came in-six men and the waiter came and began taking their order bypassing us AND the party that came in after us . We promptly left and went to Stagnaros. We were seated immediately, during orders taken, and appetizers on the way.

Mikayla G.

Yelp
I am so happy I decided to stop in after seeing the chefs prep the lobster through the window. Great experience all around--inside is clean with a gorgeous view, and the food and service was excellent. Alchoholic drinks were mixed very well. Food was delicious. In our party of 7, I didn't hear one complaint. Service was also good. The only issues was being initially seated at a table way too small (which the waitress corrected) they didn't provide plates for the bread basket, which was a little awkward. Nevertheless I would definitely return

Kerry O.

Yelp
Dietary restrictions limited me to the clam chowder, garlic bread and Caesar's salad but my wife and niece had the filet mignon (tender but served lukewarm like it sat for a while). It's my niece's favorite place in town so it was novel place (the wharf) to meet and catch up. My food was ok. Not much to do with the bread or salad but the soup was pretty darn good. Like before last September, we parked on the pier right outside the restaurant and there was not much of a crowd on a Sunday. We noticed that when we left the restaurant at 7:30 pm the whole city looked closed for the night.

Yelp
My friends and I had lunch here today to celebrate my birthday. We were seated quickly and our server, Ashley, immediately took our drink orders. All five of us ordered something different and we all enjoyed our meals. Mine was the salmon teriyaki bowl. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was moist. Our food came out in a reasonable time and was hot. Ashley kept checking on us to ensure we had everything we needed. She was pleasant and extremely professional. The menu had a good variety and we felt the prices were reasonable. The newly remodeled restaurant is lovely with a nice coastal feel to it. The pictures on the wall are beautiful. My friends and I look forward to returning. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This was our first time on the Santa Cruz Wharf but we were in town and decided to eat here for lunch. It was around 3:00 and the restaurant was only about half full. We were sat by the window so we had a great view of the ocean. Our waitress greeted us promptly and gave us water right away. The staff was well groomed and polite. We ordered calamari, clam chowder, paid for the sourdough bread, and split the grilled chicken salad from the lighter side. Everything was delicious, chowder was creamy and not too heavy, calamari was breaded lightly and not greasy and the salad had perfectly grilled chicken. Our waitress was very attentive (Susan) and our plates cleared promptly. Thanks for making our first time to the Santa Cruz wharf a great one!

Yelp
First time here and pleasantly surprised! Great ambiance, pretty views, delish seafood, reasonable prices, and very good service!

Yelp
I'm a local, so I have been here before. However it was before the fire. I really love the choices they made for their restaurant, it's beautifully designed. Our hostess was the only issue I had, she is young and very quiet. Coming from a food service background, your hostess is the first one your customer is greeted by. This poor little girl looked like she was on the way to the gym, and I don't know if we were even greeted. But she is young, the rest of the staff was very nicely dressed. Our server was very nice, and took our order right away. We got our food, I ordered the special which was the snapper picatta, my husband got calamari. He said it was cooked properly, and it was good. My meal was the picatta, the snapper was cooked perfectly. It came with rice and vegetables, it was all cooked just right. I enjoyed my meal, and would love to have it again.

Yelp
Horrible lunch. The rolls were stale (and they charge for them!), the worst lobster roll we have ever had (all claw and filler meat, no tail and very little for the price, steamers were a skimpy portion also for the price and just ok. For $100 for two people for lunch, literally go anywhere else.

Yelp
We have come to this location for a few years for our our anniversary. Service and food was always real good in the past. We always get the same thing: Cioppino, oysters and a glass of house wine. We were saddened when we heard they had a fire and shut down while they recovered and rebuilt from the fire. We travelled to Santa Cruz based around going for this dinner. When the Cioppino arrived, it was very skimpy in shell fish with one small piece of crab. When we told the staff that it used to be overflowing with shell fish, they said the recipe never changed. Like I said, we've been going there for years. I know how it used to be served. When we asked for bread, we were told we could have some, but it was additional charge. Needless to say, we won't be going back to Firefish.
