Google
Very cute, quiet place to get some great tasting desserts and relax. I really enjoyed my Mocha... strong and sweet! It was perfect! I also had a Key Lime Tart and a Cheese Danish! Both were amazing! The staff was friendly and very helpful with great suggestions. I will most certainly return!

I love Firehook Bakery! Ham and Swiss croissants hit the spot and the lattes are delicious. I ordered a cake for a birthday and it was a hassle-free process from online ordering until pick-up. Whenever I am in town, I make an effort to swing by and order my usual. Very cute spot. On Sunday’s there’s a farmers market on the same street.

A $4 vanilla latte is hard to beat around Dupont Circle, especially one that tastes great! The baked goods looked delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. I’ll be returning for some pastries!!

Google
Best bakery in dc!! Tried a cinnamon roll with icing and it was delicious. Spinach and feta crossisant was super tasty and so was chocolate espresso cookie. Also got a vanilla oat milk iced coffee and it was very good. Super nice staff and very fast service. Great prices.

Google
Not a fan of the Americano, it’s too bitter for me, but the banana cream tart is pretty amazing! The staff is really helpful and I’m glad I’ve chosen her recommendation. The place is cute and the view by the window is great. Will def comeback some other time and try out some yummy pastries.

Google
My iced chai was delicious, one of the best I’ve had in a while. The prices are actually GOOD here unlike other bakeries in the area. I spent $8 on a chocolate croissant and iced chai here. At the other place down the street, that would have been $15+.

Google
Firehook Bakery is often so clutch, for to-go food and coffee, and this central DuPont location always delivers. Their sandwiches are consistently very good, especially the ham and cheese croissant; and there’s only one soup of the day but it’s amazing, we had cream of broccoli. Coffee tastes like it’s from the EU and for regular drinkers is good enough without creamers. Friendly staff, delicious baked goods, and don’t forget, Breads — make Firehook Bakery a DC staple. ig: @harshaeats

I’ve always wanted to come by but never had the opportunity, glad I was able to. Imagine a local café with pastries, coffee and sweet delights made with love and friendly faces. 🥰 The morning chatter ensuing from locals coming and going with greetings echoing long after overlapping with the morning hullabaloo just adds to this perfect little spot in DuPont Circle.

Yelp
3.5 I'm sorry to see Firehook join the ranks of the BW Chronicles. As much as other yelpers complained about service I had a perfectly normal, serviceable (even... pleasant?) customer experience. If I were a local, I would have returned. I had some free time between appointments and wanted to check out a local bakery for lunch. Dupont Circle is as it ever was and so wanting to take advantage of the late Spring day and house gaze, I thought I'd fuel up with carbs. I walked in and got a lay of the land while being greeted (with a smile, even) by the ladies behind the counter. Despite having plans of an intricate order, I pivoted to basic and got the soup/quiche combo of the day. Oh, and a chocolate chip cookie... because of course. I took my food to go but didn't get very far. I decided to park it at one of the outside tables and people watch before I resumed pouring into home envy. The cream of mushroom soup was thick, seasoned, packed with mushrooms, and just peppery enough to make you take notice. Perfectly serviceable. I don't mean that as an insult, rather as a descriptor. The spinach quiche, too, was perfectly serviceable. I received a decent wedge of egg pie that came complete with a flaky crust, ribbons of cheese, enough spinach to make itself known, and nicely whipped eggs to provide for a light lunch (rather than a dense brick). What took this review from A-OK to fan territory, though, was the cookie. That mamma jamma was ridiculous. Huge cookie stuffed with chocolate PIECES (no chips to be found) that made every bite a mouthful of crumbly dark chocolate surrounded by sweet, baked choco-dough. With every bite, I fell more in love with that thing. I did my best to savor but... let's be real. Portion control was nowhere near my radar when that cookie was in hand. Farewell, Firehook: your cookies will be missed!

Yelp
I loved how this was a traditional bakery with great open windows and a beautiful display case. And how the pastries were affordable. The cookies are huge. And the employees are so friendly and patient as you make your decision.

Yelp
As a very regular customer of Firehook, I can tell you that this establishment fits very well in the Dupont neighborhood. Homey baked goods, great location, and a wide variety of offerings make this a very popular destination. Now, this place isn't going to win an award for it's cutting edge pastries, but it really hits a on a few key offerings, namely their breads and crackers. Upon researching Firehook, it has been around a very long time (since 1992 in Alexandria), but it has recently been acquired by private equity based in Connecticut (April 2024). We will see what, if anything changes with this acquisition, but thus far, it has appeared to have kept the bakery products and experiences the same. As for the offerings, while all items are baked in a central kitchen in Virginia, this means a few things. First, this means that the price point can be competitive. While shopping at other bakeries (I shall not call out here) loaves of bread can be up to $20. Firehook keeps the bread prices competitive while not sacrificing the quality of ingredients - organic offerings, true sourdough. Second, this means that the freshness of other baked goods can suffer a bit. Items that are not breads, crackers, hearty pies etc, can take a bit of a hit. They are not bad, just not the best you have eaten. One last tip - try the crackers. Widely available around the DMV, they are incredible. Super crisp, perfectly seasoned and great with cheese!

Yelp
Everything I tried at this bakery was good. The iced tea was refreshing and the breakfast sandwich was tasty and filling. The chocolate chip cookie was good and so was the lemon bar. The seating inside is pretty limited. There are a few tables outside.
google avatar

Ronald K.

Yelp
Listen people, do not be deceived the line and hype surrounding this place. The staff is rude, rude, rude. The cookies and pastries are worse than supermarket quality. The hot chocolate...omg, a cup of hot water with bosco from a squeeze bottle! The only positive I can find is that if you can nab a seat it's great for people watching!
google avatar

Yelp
The high school friend goes to Washington DC one day. She goes to the cafe in Dupont Circle and asks for a "spinach and feta" pastry..hahaha Here's to my favorite Greek family..thank you for the feta cheese.

Yelp
I am unsure how this place is not 5 star except that they use plastic? We found this place on the second to last day and almost avoided it due to reviews. But it was always packed...the ultimate review...right?! We went two days in a row devouring fresh croissants stuffed with cheesy savory goodness. My chai and my cappuccino were perfect as well. Eat here!

Yelp
I stumbled upon this bakery after a Pilates session and of course, had to stop in for a sweet treat. I decided to try one of each of their mini tarts. Not only are they beautifully decorated, but they are really tasty and this is coming from someone with a major sweet tooth. The bakery is small, but what bakery isn't small?? I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We were visiting D.C. from Texas for a wedding and we completely understand that Southern Hospitality is a Southern thing, but the South has it's own problems. However, our entire experience in D.C. was phenomenal EXCEPT for a Firehook Bakery all thanks to the lovely lady working the front counter on Sunday, May 12th. We came in in the morning and the line wasn't long at the time and moving somewhat quickly, but we said it was our first time and needed a few minutes to order. The lady at the front had a major attitude/problem with this and the worst customer service I've seen. We weren't expecting her to help, but she didn't offer either and then continued to rush us. We let the few people behind us go ahead, yet she was still giving sass and not being helpful when I had questions about the menu. I'm a Dietitian and I have IBS - I will have questions about the food/dairy alternative options and have worked in foodservice and trained in foodservice management. Ma'am you don't have to be nice, but you work in a customer facing role and the least you can be is respectful/hospitable. I get that you are not obligated to be nice, but rudeness dampens everyones mood. The coffee and pastries were okay, but maybe her behavior took away the flavor even more. I actually immediately pulled up Yelp and started this review with 1 star and the phrase " Lady got a major attitude", but gave myself some time to reflect and I still agree with my sentiment. The rest of our time in D.C. was great!

Yelp
3.5 stars - Many pastry options for breakfast from croissants to danishes. - Dessert ranges from cookies (many options), brownies and cakes. - Smaller coffee menu but large cups. - Affordable prices for coffee and treats (you can get a cookie for $2.50). - Inside seating: there are a few tables inside for groups of 2 - 4 but very cramped. - Outside seating: there are 3 tables outside and in the shade.

Yelp
A convenient location to get a snack, treat or coffee near the Dupont Metro station. Firehook has quite a nice selection of baked goods. Yesterday noontime-ish, and not wanting to deal with low blood sugar before doing business nearby, I purchased a banana nut muffin. It was moist and flavorful and I would definitely get it again. I was able to place my order with a friendly staffer almost immediately upon entering Firehook. Firehook has both inside and outside seating. Inside, there is a cozy, relaxed feeling. And I always like an eatery, like Firehook, that offers complimentary water.

Yelp
A friend recommended I try this cafe and I absolutely loved it! I got a spinach and feta croissant with a medium cup of chai latte with almond milk (total was less than $9) and absolutely loved both! The bakery has everything from pastries, cookies, crackers, cakes, bread and drinks. The chai was delicious, pricing was great, staff were friendly, location is right by DuPont Circle and surrounded by other stores. My croissant was a little burnt and seating is a little limited so you definitely can't have a big group there. However, they do have some outside seating, you can always get stuff to go and if you have only 1-3 people it will be the best place to grab a coffee/quick bite while in the neighborhood. Highly recommend and I'll certainly be back!

Yelp
Located about 100 feet from the DuPont Circle Metro station, Firehook offers lots of different patriots and other baked goods. We enjoyed an Orange and Cherry scone that was pretty good, a bit dry, but with a nice flavor. There is a very wide selection of breads and crackers available that I've seen in local grocery stores. The chai latte and cappuccino were very satisfying. The staff are friendly and helpful. As other people have mentioned, there's very limited seating. We were lucky to sit at one of the 3 outside tables with umbrellas that provide great shade. It's a really great place to people watch!

Yelp
Cute place to grab a latte and a pastry. I tried the gingerbread latte and a spinach and feta croissant. I really liked them both. The latte was super big and sweet. Felt very cozy! The croissant was pretty cheap for DC prices and next time I want to try one of their cookies : they look massive! It's also in a very busy area so it's a good stop if you're on the way to a farmers market, book store or just trying to get a pick me up before heading on the metro.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Stopped for the first time and the shop was busy! Their selection of freshly made danishes, cakes, pastries, cookies etc are absolutely beautiful. Pricing is very reasonable, service is quick and our pastries were delicious! We enjoyed their outdoor seating and returned this afternoon for a sweet treat for after dinner.

Yelp
Went here to get a coffee while in Dupont on a Sunday afternoon. It was a hot mess, unfortunately the cashier wasn't communicating with those making the coffees so we waited for probably thirty minutes for an americano until the barista asked us what we were waiting for and then began making it. Americano was cheap, under four for a huge cup but wasn't super tasty. There are way better offerings all around

Yelp
Firehook is a small bakery with a good selection on Q st in Dupont. We stopped by to grab some dessert while we continued our walk. Firehook had 2-3 workers handling the bakery so service was good with getting help. They have small area to eat inside but I would say it's best to eat outside at the tables or grab & go. I decided on the apple pound cake. It had apple & raisins mixed with the batter. The cake was soft & fresh, but I'm glad it was lightly sweetened. It wasn't very sweet but had more natural flavors instead. I would go back to try more dessert while in the area.
google avatar

Maureen N.

Yelp
I got the lemon poppy pound cake because one of the workers said it was tasty. However, it's very dry and the texture is like that of sand! What a waste of money! Since I thought it was a one-off kind of day, I revisited and bought other items such as scones and muffins. Sadly, none of those baked goods were as good as others I have gotten elsewhere. The ambiance seems nice but I cannot speak on it since I have only gotten takeout.

Yelp
I recently went to France and was craving a croissant, but the food here just doesn't compare. I got an almond chocolate croissant and it was not fresh at all - tasted at least a day old. Staff are friendly though and they were very fast.. wish there was more seating outdoors. Overpriced for what it was.

Yelp
I visited this bakery on Friday afternoon after sampling a treat someone had brought to work. Some items looked better/fresher than others. I decided to go with the chocolate tart. It looked delicious, and when I finally ate it, the flavor was there. However, it was completely concave in the middle. I was expecting a delicious chocolate filling, so that was a bit of a bummer. I had to go out of my way to get to Firehook so it was a disappointing experience.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
I put in an order online to pick up so my review is for this experience only. The online ordering system was super easy and convenient to use but I wish there was more options of tarts (like more fruit based ones). When I went to pick up, my order was ready and the customer service was good. There are some cafe tables/chairs outside the shop.

Yelp
A quaint little family-run cafe situated right in the middle of the ever-bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood, Firehook is a charming, affordable spot for a coffee and a sumptuous baked good! The cafe's interior is cozy, if a bit cramped, with limited seating inside and some tables outside, perfect for meeting a friend on a nice day! Upon entering, I was immediately warmly greeted by everyone working behind the counter. I ordered a small drip coffee for $1.95 (which is practically unheard of in the D.C. area) as well as a generously-sized piece of their seasonal pumpkin cheesecake for around $4. The coffee was standard, but I can't argue with that amazing price - they also have plenty of other drinks if you're more into specialty beverages and alternative milks. My friend got their chai latte with oatmilk, and said it was one of the best she's ever had! Their pastry case is quite impressive, with a wide array of every baked good imaginable, ranging from decadently frosted cinnamon rolls to cookies the size of hubcaps (I think they're only $2.25, which is insane). My pumpkin cheesecake was rich and perfectly spiced with flavors of fall, and it wasn't too sweet, nor too acidic. This bakery is truly a hidden gem, and I would totally drop by whenever I'm feeling in the mood for a solid coffee and a delicious pastry!

Yelp
Great selection of breakfast pastries and coffee. My air bnb was right around the corner so I stopped here on two different locations and tried a couple of items. My favorite was probably a spinach cheese croissant. Coffee was decent too. Quick service and very friendly staff. Went in very early so not too long of a wait. Very cute cafe to stop by if you're in the area.

Yelp
I was in Dupont early and felt like a cup of coffee and a muffin. Firehook has been a place I have known and visited for a long time. I order a blueberry muffin and medium black coffee. The place is nice because it has seats in front of the window so you can people watch. I grab a seat and sit to enjoy. The muffin is perfect and coffee on point with the cool morning. The assortment of house made pastries, cakes, bagels and muffins is amazing for such a small shop. I didn't think to grab a picture, DOH!. Definitely a go to when I'm in Dupont. Give it a try if you're in the mood for a quick bite.

Yelp
Good...good....yeah it was good. Service fast and options are plentiful. Not the best baked goods o have had but good. If a table opens gran it quick, it's a small place and the traffic in and out is constant. That's it for this place...9h one recommendation....chocolate croissant.

Yelp
FOOD: Didn't have a lot here but the two things we got tasted great. Additionally everything at the counter genuinely looked great! I saw beautiful tarts and cheesecake and fresh cream cakes; I can tell the bakery has a good variety to cater to people who want less heavy items. SERVICE: The lady who took our order seemed very friendly and polite. AMBIANCE: The inside is pleasant and there is outdoor seating as well. There's an outlet where you can change your phone which was nice. The branding and palette of the store were pleasing too.

Yelp
Me and a couple of friends went to Firehook after a walk around DuPont. I was extremely interest in something sweet. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome. They have so many different options of pasties/cakes and more. Apparently their baguette are the talk of the town. While my friends and I were looking at their options and ordering, 2 people came in to ask for the baguette but they ran out so they left. There were lot of people inside the store so me and my friend ate outside, it was a vibe. Definitely look forward to coming back.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was in my 20s. I love and crave their cookies when I am not home in DC. Thank goodness they're huge. Cookies are still reasonably priced.
google avatar

Yelp
Carrot Cake!!! Moist, delicious, fresh and perfectly balanced flavor! I had this one for National carrot cake day and it definitely didn't disappoint

Yelp
Still sooo good. Because my normal go-to locations didn't survive the pandemic, I stopped into this location recently for one of their amazing strawberry cream cakes for a birthday. I was a bit nervous--is it maybe not going to be as good as I remembered...?! I should not have worried, as it's still delicious! Their pastry case has even upped their game with new selections, as well as old favorites. They are still as flaky and delicious! I love that you can usually just pop in and just pick up an amazing cake that is sure to impress. There are very few places in DC where you can do that without pre-ordering! Give this place some local love
google avatar

Yelp
We spotted Firehook after lunch and decided to try it out and grab some dessert. They have a wide assortment of pastries, cakes, pies, cookies and more available! The cookies are huge and there are several options to choose from. I went with the sweet dream cookie which had chocolate chips, walnuts, cinnamon, and ginger. To be honest it was ok, very crunchy and wasn't my personal favorite. I'd like to come back and try their other items, but the cookies weren't a hit for me.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
So, I know it's not actually the most important part but everything there was beautiful. I regret not photographing the display case. We got pastries and I enjoyed my feta and spinach croissant for sure. The chocolate croissant had so much chocolate in it. They had 4 different mini quiches too! The croissants were not quite as flaky as some I've had, but still good. My decaf americano was high quality. The staff and checkout was efficient. Good outdoor seating.

Robert T.

Yelp
Excellent baked goods. Wide variety of items to choose from. Friendly staff and quick service. Prices were very reasonable for DC.
google avatar

Alekhya C.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick snack before transferring to the DuPont metro nearby, and was pleasantly impressed by this local bakery! It's small with limited seating, but seems to have a wide variety of baked goods, including cakes and muffins for order. I got the cinnamon roll, which honestly didn't look like anything special in the case, but was DELICIOUS. Soft and chewy, just the right texture. And the frosting! Get it with the frosting! Not too sweet, and clearly homemade. The whole thing was less than $3 too, which made my jaw DROP. The place across the street from me sells sub par croissants for 4.75 a pop, and these guys are making delicious homemade treats for cheap!

Maya B.

Yelp
Firehook Bakery has great pastries at an affordable price. Their staff is also kind and the service is quick :)

Yelp
Butter. Flaky. Soft. Big. This butter croissant was all of that and more. Firehook Bakery had an extraordinary array of breads and pastries ranging from Cheese Danishes to Spinach and Cheese Quiche. I went for a quick grab and go at the end of a morning walk, came home and added an egg to the croissant. When the croissant is cut through the middle, you can see the layers and aeration that provide a fluffy interior. Tears smoothly and easily. 10/10, will be going back!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a celebratory cake from here for hub to mark a special achievement. I was impressed with the quality. When I inspected the final product and lifted it up--it was heavy, baby! No lack of butter. Went with their mocha chocolate cake; the layers were thick and rich and the icing was dreamy. The message was written with care. AND, the bakery decided to deliver it to my house for no charge instead of having me drive to the store--just to be sure it would be perfect for the afternoon's festivities and reduce my stress. My family is still talking about that cake.
google avatar

Adam A.

Yelp
I had high hopes going into the first bite of this very visually appealing chocolate croissant. Unfortunately, that first bite was very disappointing. Very cold, SUPER dense, no flakiness at all whatsoever, and even the flavor was lacking. Would not recommend. A sad reminder that looks aren't everything.

Yelp
I am so pissed at how I was treated at Firehook in Dupont Circle today, August 1st, 2024. I have lived in Dupont Circle for the last 25yrs. I have been spending my hard earned money at your establishment since it opened. I am so livid, I didn't take a shower after I got home so I could write this. I will be posting this on Yelp and Facebook and anywhere else I can. In the last year I have bought over 15 cakes at $28 bucks a pop and Tipped! Over the course of this time I returned 2 cakes, 1 chocolate that was so dry and a carrot cake, which was horrible. 1 cake was swapped out the other I was refunded. I have stopped several times to get the Mocha cake, it's the only one I like and you didn't have it. Today I called and was told you have one. I asked to set it aside and I would be there in 5 mins. When I walked in, the lovely young lady that makes the cappuccino asked if I wanted anything. I told her I just called and they are holding a cake for me. I saw the other young lady head over to get the cake, then someone who I don't know says, " You want the whole cake?" I said, "Yes." She said, "Are you sure you want the cake, are you going to return this one?" My blood pressure went through the roof. I said, " How dare you question me, I don't even know you! I will never spend a cent at Firehooks again!" Actually she did me a favor, I don't need to be eating cake and spending money anyway. I never want to see people lose their job, but this is intolerable and inexcusable behavior. Have a wonderful time at what you do, a good time at what you need to do and a great attitude at what you have to do... -Thom Kirk 2006

Yelp
Crackers were mostly broken and less seasoning than usual .. a new business model ??

Yelp
I went to Firehook Bakery on a recent weekend and received prompt service. While the person behind the counter was a bit abrasive, the person gave me an extra cookie for free as they were approaching closing time. I got the chocolate espresso cookie, which was a great deal for the large size. The cookies were fine tastewise, although somewhat disappointing.

C A.

Yelp
The cupcakes in the case looked fancy and beautiful. I ordered 4, but they took cupcakes from the back that looked like they were for a grade school birthday party. Total bait and switch.

Yelp
A couple days after Christmas on a weekday morning, found a decent crowd at this cute bakery. Their display is awesome, with tons of selections and everything looks pretty good. Despite how appetizing everything looked, the quality was mediocre. Their Chocolate Chip Scone was dry and the dough had some cocoa powder in it, which was unexpected. The Chocolate Croissant was also average - not as flaky or buttery as one expects from a typical croissant. An average stop for an average day but nothing special worth seeking out.
google avatar

Janani S.

Yelp
Came here after lunch at Kramers, they had an LARGE selection of pastries. The brownie was AMAZING the fudge was oozing. I love spinach and feta croissants and decided to try that out here. It didn't hit home for me, was a bit too salty for my liking. Croissant itself was wonderful though.

Yelp
Not many options in regard to drinks- I was looking for a matcha latte today. They have basic coffee needs: americano, macchiato, cappuccino, hot tea, chai tea latte. Pastry options are plenty and they look delicious, although could be very deceiving. I bought two mini tarts of which they have regular sizes available just to try. The fruit tart did not look fresh (I asked for the freshest and still not fresh) tart did not have crunch but all soggy and some fruits on top were dry. The key lime tart I thought was pretty good though! At $2.20 a mini tart and almost $3 for green tea I found it a little costly for low quality. Service wasn't too kind or helpful either. Won't come again.

Yelp
Cute and reasonably priced bakery in Logan Circle. Biggest cookies I had ever seen, the cookies were decent, and unfortunately they didn't have slices of pound cakes. I wish that all bakeries had homemade pound cakes, it Firehook didn't. The big plus about the bakery is their prices. It was pretty cheap.

Yelp
I can understand why this place gets low reviews. I was like Annie when I first came across Firehook, I was confused. The treats look delicious and cute. I went down with my family for a birthday celebration. We needed a birthday cake. I ordered ahead of time, and the run around they gave me was extremely annoying and stressful. Eventually, one of the workers took pity on me and worked something out. It seems very much like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Also BTW - if you're ordering online and need a 6 inch cake. They make them, just don't offer them ONLINE. Talk about a big screw you. Give them a call, and they'll make you a 6 inch. We picked up some cookies. Lemon and Chocolate chip. Both were meh. They were ok priced. I think a dollar or two, so the mediocre quality was forgivable. There was confusion when we went to get the cake, we finally got it. And ended up getting the wrong cake (ha!) The writing was incorrect but at least the flavour was correct. The cake was poor quality. Spongey, butter cream was weak and flavourless. Sad experience. It was an embarrassing family dinner.

Yelp
Aggressively hostile woman working the front counter on Saturday morning. I came to pick up a cake for my friend's baby shower - her mother had ordered it online and left my name for pickup. I explained this and both gave my name and orderers name to the woman at the counter. She pulled the cake out of the fridge at the front but wouldn't give it to me. She then made me write down my name and the orderer's. While holding the cake she then proceeded to demand the order number. When I said I didn't have the order number she demanded to know what was written on the cake. I said I didn't know because I didn't order it, but that it was for a baby shower. She looked at the cake that she was holding then walked away with it and hid it in the back of the bakery. She said she couldn't help me without the order number. I was able to get the order number a few minutes later and walked back to her and started to read it out - she walked away in the middle of me giving the number because it clearly wasn't necessary, she retrieved the cake and tossed it on the counter and walked away. The order sheet attached literally has my name and "cake for baby shower" written on it. The woman was clearly enjoying herself the whole time. She made no effort to help me, she went out of her way to be difficult and loved every second of it. Sadistic behaviour. Unbelievably offensive to treat customers like this. . You wouldn't stand for customers treating your staff the way your staff treat customers.

I like the bakery choices here but the older clerk, who may be an owner, did not thank me for my purchase. This was not the first time.....but my last, because I won't be back.
