A Leading NYC Mayoral Candidate Thinks Roof Farms Can Save America’s Cities | Eater

"A hospital-run lifestyle-medicine initiative emphasizes whole-food, plant-based diets to reverse chronic conditions rather than rely solely on prescriptions. The program — presented as a model of 'food as medicine' — has enrolled roughly 230 people with about 750 on a waiting list and reports participants losing weight, normalizing blood pressure and cholesterol, reversing diabetes and neuropathic symptoms, and reducing dependence on medications." - Amanda Kludt

On May 12, 2025, was admitted to The Bellevue Hospital for a left total hip joint replacement, and was discharged on the 13th. My experiences with the *entire* staff of Bellevue Hospital were nothing but positive, from beginning to end--from the greeter I met upon entering, who pointed me in the right direction, all the way to the daytime room nurse (Sara H.), who even wheeled me outside to my waiting ride home. Everyone was excellent. Everyone. The 2nd Floor Surgery nurse (Patty) was professional and friendly, relating that she had had a hip replaced and is glad she did, which was nice to know. My night nurse, the therapy team, and even the room service people (who brought my food so quickly) were all friendly, attentive, and professional. I should have written down the names of everyone who did their jobs so well, to give them the credit they are due. My surgeon, Dr. Dylan Mathews of The Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio, apparently did a great job, since my recovery is way beyond my expectations as I write this. I can't think of one single aspect of my experience with The Bellevue Hospital that I was not happy with. I don't understand some of these negative reviews. It just goes to show: some people complain about everything.

If I could give it no stars I would. I have delivered 2 children in this hospital and never had issues. Loved it actually. Today I had hands down the worst experience in the ER. Dr. Pey came into the room without even examining me and offering me numbers to other physicians so he wouldn’t have to do his job. The nurse who checks you in both out side the doors and inside the doors are hands down the rudest nurses I’ve ever had. Do not recommend.

We’ve been here in the ER for 2 1/2 hours. Some people have been here for 4 hours. People keep coming out and leaving after they have been seen and they have not taken anyone else back. Ridiculous.

I want to say that I appreciate all nurses who were ready and prepared. DR Fazio for his excellent care. Would recommend him greatly to anyone. But I want to give a shout out to a special nurse in the birthing center. EVA. this nurse was calm, gentle, caring and attentive to my daughter before, during and after my daughter gave birth. She was considerate of my daughter's needs and wants. And her soft voice gave my daughter a sense of calmness thru this. To me, it made the whole experience more relaxing and eased the aniexties of everyone. God bless her for helping my daughter thru her birthing experience and may others follow in her footsteps to be as wonderful and loving as she is. Thank you EVA!

I just had the worst, least hands on experience at The Bellevue Hospital that Ive ever had there! I went in with symptoms of cellulitis (which I've had before so the symptoms were familiar) and left having never had any of the nurses (or doctor) glove up and touch the area to see if it were warm to the touch or draw a line around the area to see how much worse it gets over the next few days or any other steps I've seen them do in the past...I told them this is reoccurring and the triage nurse said the doctor might possibly refer me to an infectious wound doctor. When the doctor came in there was no mention of it so I asked the discharge nurse about it and she said "I should ask my primary care doctor about that". When I spoke with the doctor I told him that I don't have a PCP because I have new insurance and need to find a new one because the doctor I had doesn't accept my new insurance. Yet in my discharge papers I was referred to the doctor I can no longer see!! I think the thing that really bothered me was my blood pressure (the second time they ran it, I didn't see the first time) was 164/108.and they showed little to no concern! I am very disappointed to say the least. I know that it is common practice to start on oral antibiotics and see if in makes a dent before continuing on to the next treatment so we will see. I really just wanted to get antibiotics started and nip it in the bud so I guess I got what I went for just never felt so uncared for to be honest. Do better TBH.

Google
One star for the nurses and the intake staff simply because they were decent, otherwise insanely horrible experience. I cannot believe a hospital is operating this way. I expressed my concerns and that I felt faint and dizzy and the doctor mocked me and said I’m perfectly healthy and there’s no reason I should feel that way when I am diagnosed with Addison disease and Behçet’s disease. They desperately need bedside manner improvements and learn about being patient focused. I likely will be calling ombudsman and patient advocate as well. Clean up your act Bellevue hospital you’re dealing with human beings not emotionless robots!

I absolutely LOVE the birthing unit and the nurses up there, they are all amazing and so sweet. But the hospital itself is infuriating especially the scheduling department. Calling is useless, never get an answer and when I go to leave a voicemail the option won’t work so I try to speak with someone at pre registration and they always just send me back over to scheduling to sit on hold and do the same thing again and are always so rude about it too. Like I tried to schedule some scans with my weekly biophysical and I told the lady that I had been calling every day this week and haven't had any luck getting an answer or being able to leave a voicemail and with an attitude for no reason she goes “you mean last week, todays Monday” like… regardless I’ve been calling every day sometimes twice to try and schedule my appointment and haven’t been able to, not sure why what week it is matters with that and then she proceeds to send me over to scheduling after I explained there’s never an answer and the voicemail option does not work. No help what so ever.

Yelp
Er nurse gretchny or whatever her name is needs retrained in how to deal with patients. Told her I stopped smoking and instead she got accusatory and rude as if it doesn't take a month to leave your system. Mean girl nurses who peaked in high school. I'd rather go to Firelands. Also can't take the meds I was given pharmacy advised completely against it. ‍ thanks for treating me like a crackhead over some thc.

Yelp
Piss pore care! Used to be a really great hospital but now it's just really gone to pot! I got treated like I'm just a paycheck and not a person. No care at all! All they want to do is give pain pills and push you out the door. Not help you fix your problems. There just a bandage shop now days! I'll never go there again! I'll drive the extra miles to go to Norwalk hospital now on!

Yelp
I went to the ER in the morning. I was treated well, the nurses were friendly. For an early Saturday morning the ER was slammed with more urgent needs than mine, but the nurses checked on me regularly and continued to apologize for the wait. The doc was great and he too apologized- they didn't need to as far as I was concerned. I got the care I needed and left Feeling better.

Yelp
I was in their ER for treatment after an incident. I thought the nurses and MD were excellent. I received all care and procedures in a timely manner and was treated with respect. I felt well cared for and the hospital looked extremely clean.

Yelp
On Nov.12 I went to the emergency because of extreme pain shooting from my hip to my knee. I was also experiencing some slight nausea and lightheaded feelings because the pain was so severe, my entire abdomen was so tense and tight, I could not go to the bathroom. Dr. Jack Hay, and a nurse were overseeing me. I have never encountered such rudeness as I did out of this doctor. He was impatient, his tone of voice was almost hysterical and aggressive. The nurse said very little, she kept giving me looks like I was from another planet. I did not feel comforted or consoled under their care. I felt intimidated and irritated with his behavior, which only aggravated my pains and discomfort. His less than a 60 sec. examination resulted in a misdiagnosis of Sciatica. There was one realization that came to my mind at the time of being there, that neither one of these two cared about me or my condition. I was an annoyance to them, and they made that quite clear to me. I have never felt more frightened than being in their care. Unless I have someone with me that will stay with me the entire time, I will never go to the Bellevue hospital emergency ever again. Tim Brutsche, Clyde Ohio

Yelp
Improper billing by Vein and Body Specialists, which is part of Bellvue Hospital, and rude office manager, Danielle, who can not even be bothered to look away from her computer to discuss it with me in a kind, respectful manner.

Yelp
My husband wound up in Bellevue Hospital for more than a week, and we experienced excellent care both in ICU, Surgery Unit, and General Population. The staff was highly professional, met all of his needs, and other departments (Social Services, OT) were also impressive. He told me that the meals were great, and I agree based on the times I joined him for a meal. The doctors made rounds with other staff and were very informative as well as compassionate. Discharge to another state was very thorough. While I hope we don't have to go there again, the people there made the experience as "painless" as possible.

Yelp
Went in today for an MRI, an outpatient procedure. Also had to have some blood work associated with the MRI. All the employees I met were amiable and helpful. Lab wait was minimal, less than 5 minutes. Lab tech was pleasant and professional, and blood draw was skillfully done. Rad tech was helpful and patient, and frequently asked how I was feeling during the test. MRI was a little more open than most, and I did feel especially closed in. The hospital itself was clean and well kept. Only problem was that I essentially had to register twice, once on the phone and once in person. I would not hesitate to recommend this hospital for outpatient testing.

Yelp
This is by far the worst hospital I've ever been to. My friend went in because she was experiencing severe chest and abdominal pain. After running some tests, they couldn't find anything wrong so they told her she had to go home. She kept telling them how sick she was and she didn't feel any better. They basically handed her her clothes and told her to leave. I don't understand how a hospital can not help a person who is so sick. Stay away from this place if you can help it.

Yelp
It took us 3 hours to leave the hospital. The service was not very good. People before us were leaving before us. I had to complain to get my results. Not recommended

Kyrsten K.

Yelp
So so awful. I can't even begin to explain how terrible this place is. I thought people got jobs in medicine because they care about people. Obviously not these people. They insulted me and boyfriend the times we've been in there, saying his job wasn't a "mans" job. We went through a difficult situation I wish not to identify and they insulted us about it. If I got shot right in front of that hospital, I still wouldn't go again.
