Bakery/cafe with food-truck roots specializing in pies & cheesecakes, plus cookies & milkshakes.
"Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop is the name that is at the top of every pie-lover’s list in South Florida. The decadent bakery is best known for selling popular items like brownie bomb pie, chocolate peanut butter pie, cookie monster pie, carrot cake, coconut guava cake, and more. Pro tip: Order a cake sampler with five flavors equal to the size of one full cake." - Olee Fowler, Amber Love Bond
"South Florida’s pie guru does not disappoint when it comes to cheesecake. The guava cheesecake is a Miami staple with guava sauce and white chocolate. Oreo lovers will be smitten by the cookies and cream cheesecake (bonus that it comes topped with Oreos and a white chocolate drizzle), or a red velvet cheesecake that nods to its namesake flavor with a rich chocolate crust. Nutella fanatics, meanwhile, have their cheesecake rendition made with Pirouline cookies and a Nutella sauce topper." - Alona Martinez
"Firefighter Derek Kaplan has been perfecting his key lime pie recipe since he was 15-years old squeezing limes in his father’s apartment. Now, with two successful bakeries under his belt and a cult-like following, his key lime pie, which uses almost two pounds of fresh key limes, draws big crowds." - Alona Martinez
"Miami’s favorite fireman turned pie maker, Fireman Derek, has added another sweet to his growing lineup at his namesake Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop." - Olee Fowler
"This very small bakery in Wynwood serves some over-the-top baked goods. If you don’t have the biggest sweet tooth, you might find a lot of the selection here overwhelming. But if you love a pie that looks like it was created by a team of stoned dessert engineers, then you’ll be very into the slices here. The salty monkey pie is a thick mass of chocolate, peanut butter, banana, Oreo, and pretzel. There’s something called a brownie bomb pie, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. But there are also some normal pies, like a very good key lime version, as well as carrot cake, cookies, and even some savory pies. photo credit: Emily Schindler" - Ryan Pfeffer
