The Best To-Go Taco Tuesday Spots in Chicago | Eater

"If not everyone in your household is on board for Taco Tuesday (though that seems unlikely), then Edison Park’s Firewater Saloon is the perfect spot. In addition to a stable of classic tacos like steak with onion, cilantro, and lime, they also have a full menu of other Southern specialties, including po’ boys and buttermilk fried chicken. The top-notch drink menu includes cocktails like the Ruby Red Margarita, made with Cazadores Reposado and grapefruit juice. And should you top things off with the DIY s’mores kit for dessert? Absolutely." - Vox Creative

Google
Rolled up to this place after our ride and tried the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich with country-style potatoes on the side, and it hit all the right notes: smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. The potatoes were golden, crispy, and the perfect comfort side. My friend went for the chicken with chili sauce, and told me it was equally awesome — juicy with just the right kick of heat without overpowering the taste. Great spot, good portions, and perfect vibe for a weekend. Will definitely be back! 🔥🍗

Google
Great place for food and drinks anytime. Great atmosphere of this old-fashioned bar. Service is nice, with a smile attentive but not overbearing. Food was tasty but too greasy for my liking.

Google
Firewater is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Doc is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Amazing pulled pork sandwich. Must come back. 10/10.

Google
The food is good - a bit under seasoned for my taste, but you get plenty of it. They do not have real butter, which is a must with pancakes for my crew. The servers are friendly, though they had large sections so the service was on the slow side. Very kid friendly, clean bathrooms, decent prices. Overall a good experience.

One of the coolest rock pub in Park Ridge with craft beer and has live music/performance. Their website is up to date and follow their website for regular updates for live performances

Google
We went to firewater for their grinch brunch and it was amazing. I will absolutely do this every year now. The Grinch is hilarious and stays in character the whole time the food is delicious. There’s tons of options and you also have the option to just order off the menu. They serve bacon chicken tenders, eggs, macaroni, pancakes, French toast, cupcakes, cake, pops cookies, a different variety per table too. They have adorable drink menu for the season. Total worth it! My little guys still talk about it every day

Google
The firewater saloon is an awesome spot! I really love their breakfast. It is a mountain country style breakfast. They always have live music and the beer and drinks are always great! If you are looking for a good time or a good breakfast in the morning, come to the firewater saloon!

Google
Tuesday Night is trivia, can be a lot of fun. Food is ok, typical bar food offerings. The staff is very nice but it seems like they are perpetually at least one server down, so things take a bit longer than a lot of bars in the area.

Yelp
House was packed, a lot of tables were reserved for a shower, managed to find a spot. Had the 3 dollar Sunday special, sloppy Joe's and potatoes, pigs in the blanket. Food was delicious and the service was great from the young woman who had our part of the bench table.

Yelp
This bar doesn't pay its bands. Do not patronize! I saw this on a Chicago Musicans' Facebook group.

Yelp
I meet friends here because it is an easy location for us all. Our waitress was manning the whole restaurant by herself while staff talked at the bar. Didn't seem fair. She was wonderful but also overwhelmed. The others should have stepped up. I ordered the French toast. It wasn't any better than I could make at home. Food came out not great. You can tell the side potatoes were made ahead of time and plopped on a plate. It wasn't remarkable at all. The bloody Mary's are good. I asked for a beer back but never received it. I won't go back. Too bad. I used to really like this location.

Mariel H.

Yelp
I'd love to come in and order $1200 worth of food and drinks with friends, oh but I can't pay for that till 6 months from now. Hope that's okay? Shouldn't be a problem since that's the game you play with musicians! Please avoid this business. They have stolen from many hardworking artists by not paying them.

Yelp
Frequently a very long wait for a server and food when it's not even busy. Went here for years for Omelette's all day which are usually good but food is hit or miss. Smoking is allowed just feet away from the front door/open windows and back alley door which I do not find pleasant at any time much less while trying to eat. High turnover of servers leads me to believe this is not the best place to work. Our last experience was bad enough that we do not plan to go back here.

Yelp
A small group of us went by for dinner the other night and all paid on the same check, to make things easier. When we went to close out, there were 4 drinks on our tab that we didn't order. We explained that there was a mistake and someone else's drinks must have gotten added to our tab and we were told they were certain it was correct and we were expected to pay for it. We had 4 people in our group, only two had beers. There was so way we ordered 2 shots and 2 mixed drinks and didn't know it. It was clearly someone else's drinks accidentally added to our bill. We asked to speak to a manager and none ever came. We eventually paid the tab so we could leave, but none of us will ever be back here again.

Yelp
When I first started going here , they were top notch . They have the best wings. We were going there almost once a week for their food. Last year we went while they were cleaning up the Edison Park fest , so everything was open for service . It was for a birthday too. It was awful , the food was awful and the service was worse ! My husband talked to the manager and her excuse was , "they are tired from the fest" ?!? That is the saddest excuse and a sad one . They gave us money off our bill and we got the hell out of there ! My friend brought me this delicious bbq sauce from the south side and I wanted wings to go along with it . I thought to give Firewater another chance . I ordered over the phone . My husband wanted a dish they didn't even have anymore so he chose another one . I got the wings and cheese curds. I left to go pick it up and they called me on the way over to let me know they were OUT OF WINGS !!!! On St.Patrick's Day weekend ? I was once again disappointed but asked if they can put the Texas run on the chicken fingers ? They said they would . I got there expecting all the food to be done , NOPE ! I paid the bill and the bartender, she was super nice , let me know they were out of cheese curds. Not joking , she sure did ! She gave me the menu and said to pick out two apps , I picked crispy green beans and the potato skins.... Yes like clock work , they didn't carry the crispy green beans anymore . Are you just too cheap to make new menus ? Too cheap to buy more product? I don't know but I can't make this shit up!!!!! I waited for my food to be done , left , and will never eat there again. That was just awful . Plus the chicken strips had too much breading on them and potato skins were over done .

Yelp
Always a great spot for food - I typically do breakfast but today I got the lunch. Burgers are good but my recommendation is to NOT get a stuffed burger but get a burger and have the stuff on it or accompany it . The stuffed burger could only be cooked one temperature because of the stuffings Steak fries are good and glad they brought back the sweet potato tots - hope they bring back the curly fries next :) Great spot for breakfast lunch and dinner always have specials

Yelp
Stopped here for brunch after my flight home! Exactly what I needed after a trip! My date and I got their mimosas and skillets! I went with the Barney and he got the Hombre. Both were amazing and had plenty of leftovers!! Our server was very busy so we didn't see her very much. Wasn't a big deal. She came by with hot sauce, extra napkins, etc before our food came!

Yelp
Pay the artists you hire. You guys are scum of the earth for stiffing musicians. Own up to your obligations and stop booking talent without payment ready.

Yelp
Solid establishment with excellent menu items and strong pours!!! Bartender was attentive and knowledgeable about the area

Yelp
Guinness out of a plastic cup is just the best. Ten out of ten, I would recommend to everyone!!!!

Yelp
After looking at the menu online I was really hoping the reviews were wrong about this place, but it was awful. The worst part was the service. We got there at 9pm and nobody stopped by our table. At 9:25 I asked the bartender if we are supposed to order at the bar and he said no and would send a server to us. Finally, someone came at 9:45. She didn't write anything down, which resulted in several mistakes in our order. The drinks stayed empty almost the entire time. The jambalaya was good and fried chicken was okay. I got the Brisket Melt and it was horrible. It was so dry and bland it was like garden mulch on bread. I asked the server for bbq sauce to try to give it some taste and moisture but she never brought it. I decided I would just take it home and try to repair it there. You would think the server would have asked why I sat there without eating while the rest of the table ate or at least go "oh gosh, I'm sorry I forgot your bbq sauce", but she didn't ask anything. She just let me pack it up and gave us the check. Total bummer that it was disappointing all around.

Yelp
Have been to Firewater a handful of times; definitely a local spot in town. Have eaten their food which has been good, but this review is on their breakfast. We stopped in for brunch on a Saturday, plenty of space. I was between the skillets or a wrap and chose the Hoedown skillet. Their skillets all look good, but a little heavy. My boyfriend chose the classic eggs Benedict. He enjoyed his. My skillet was decently good, but the ratio of eggs and the rest of the food in it was off. If you're looking for a skillet with a lot of meat, choose the hoedown. It does come with a Texas toast which was good. Lots of breakfast options, the wrap looked good going past me. Just felt like I chose the wrong dish this morning, but also, nothing out of this world. Fun bar to go to on the weekends at night though! Just might skip the skillet next time.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. Great menu...Unfortunately, this place has turned into a bait and switch. They might have 10% of the actual menu available. Tried to order 5 different things, one after the other I was told they didn't have. A couple of them he said they haven't had for months. It seems that they deliberately don't update their menu to trick people into going there. Word on the street is that they haven't been paying their vendors, which is why most of the menu isn't available. Save yourself the trouble and go to Pizza Boy next door. This place sucks.

Yelp
Came here again for the first time in at least a year, and it changed so much in such negative ways. Our server was really nice, and my sister's salad was good, but the food that both me and my mom got sucked. We came here yesterday on President's Day for lunch, and it was DEAD at 11am. It used to always be busy here, and on a day where teens are off, we saw a red flag in no one else being here. We should've listened to our gut feeling. When we got the menu, we noticed tons of their great menu items from before are no longer on the menu. The menu used to be pages and pages long and in this cute binder-like way, but now it's just a laminated sheet, which is fine, but it's so much smaller than before. Just a few of the things that I regularly order that changed: they don't have curly fries anymore, they only sell tacos on Fridays, and they don't have a taco salad anymore. I also asked what soup they had, and they didn't have any even though it was 11am and a side you can get on the menu. Yesterday, I ordered a jalapeno popper grilled cheese, my sister ordered a chopped salad with grilled chicken, and my mom ordered a chicken pot pie. My sandwich sucked and literally wasn't a grilled cheese. It was hard melted cheese on a bun with overcooked crispy bacon and fried jalapeno peppers that were overcooked and had no taste... and their steak fries were undercooked and flavorless. My mom's chicken pot pie was not thick, had nothing inside of it but flavorless shredded chicken (no veggies or anything even mixed in), and the breading on top was half cooked and SO greasy that it was literally glistening. Hers was so bad that she told the waitress that she couldn't eat it, and then she ended up ordering the same salad as my sister because that was good and the chicken was seasoned well. Our waitress comped us for the uneaten chicken pot pie, but I can't believe no one looked at the pot pie and saw it didn't look right. That was a total red flag, too. Overall, I will not be back, at least for a very long time. I once used to come here ALL the time, especially when I was younger, but it used to be so much fun with a young crowd at night, and now it's all older people. I'm not sure if they changed management recently, but the quality was also MUCH better a few years ago.

Yelp
This place is in a great location and the atmosphere is nice. However, I am so disappointed in the food. I ordered something from here a few months ago and it was not that great so with there being other options in the area I didn't go back. But then I stopped by during the EP Sip and Stroll. They had samples of Mac and Cheese and pulled pork. I LOVED the Mac and Cheese that I raved about it to my husband as a "must order from soon!" So we did. We ordered the Mac & Cheese under apps and a couple of Chicken Po Boy sandwiches. Everything was bland; especially the Mac & Cheese. My husband had to throw hot sauce on it and I had to add other types of cheese just to give it flavor. Luckily I had some chipotle aioli to throw on the sandwhich as well. I was oh so disappointed. Who made the Mac and cheese for the Sip and Stroll? Can I get an order of that?!
google avatar

Nick G.

Yelp
First time here...I ordered the brisket bowl which is essentially pot roast served over mashed potatoes. It was very good. It wasn't too salty which was great. The have many TVs and play sports every day. The service was a bit slow though it wasn't overly busy. Overall, this is a place I would come back to.

Yelp
Another great stop with the 'train crawl' folks. I've been here a couple times before and am impressed with the service and appetizers. I need to come back this way to try more of the menu. Very cheerful place with plenty of high top tables near the stage. The was no music on this visit. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The breakfast menu looked fantastic with waffles, biscuits & gravy, skillets, omelettes, wraps, homemade corned beef & hash and thick sliced ham of the bone along with pretty much any other breakfast items! Can't wait to come back for any of those and a Bloody Mary. I'm also a sucker for Fried Chicken from the Lunch/Dinner menu. They serve Jambalya, burgers, salads, tacos, chili, a sandwich called the Grave Digger w/sliced bologna, cheese sauce and jalapeños (Hangover special in my book) ribs, and a dish called meatloaf cupcakes topped with mashed potatoes and gravy, YUM!

Yelp
I would not support a business that does not pay their employee at all from April 20th, until May 30. After multiple requests and a bounced check, which was requested they cover the return check fee-denied. The Edison Park Chamber of Commerce stated their were no longer an affiliated business, I can see why. There's plenty more negative to say, sticking to the facts here! Wage theft is a crime!! Authorized USA worker too!

Yelp
I made a reservation for an event at Firewater two weeks in advance, for myself and my family only to arrive and find the place completely packed. When I asked the hostess about my reservation, she threw her hands up in frustration and said, "Look around." She acknowledged she had our reservation but claimed it wouldn't be honored and simply said, "Sorry, it's not going to happen." This was incredibly frustrating, and my family now had to scramble to find somewhere else to go. I will not be returning.

Lindsay M.

Yelp
Service was absolutely terrible - we were at a table and had to go to the bar to get drinks because our server was MIA. Our food came (but missing one entree) and it was cold and didn't even taste that great. We asked for water, never got it - we had to the bar for that. We asked for a high chair for my toddler (we asked 3 times), and it arrived after our food arrived. We even had to go find our own salt, pepper, & ketchup. It was busy and there was 1 bartender and 2 servers. Just terrible, I don't plan on returning.

Yelp
An old standard, we had not stopped in for quite sometime, it is a nicely comforting Chicken Fried Chicken they serve here. The Coal Miner looked good, cocktails spot on, a lively joint. We stopped on a Thursday evening and found the Mechanical Bull had taken over the center of attention. Quite entertaining, the Bull had a busy evening, fully in command. (FDV Approved 3.9 - Food, 3.7; Design, 4.1; Value, 3.9).

Yelp
Wow I tell you something I have been living in Texas and I had BBQ there and I tried this place wow it's amazing I just loved the BBQ ribs and drinks really good A+

Robin T.

Yelp
Hey Firewater, I just ordered your Chicken Po'Boy thru Grub Hub. The sandwich was really good, and held together quite nicely. I really like the different spin you put on it with the sauce, red onion and biscuit type bread. I chose buffalo sauce, great complement to the nicely cooked and breaded chicken breast. Baked bean side was also quite tasty. This was the first time I've tried your food - look forward to stopping in soon. All in all the price was reasonable for the quality of this lunch.

David M.

Yelp
It was ok here. Extremely under staffed. I felt so bad for our server. She was doing the best she should. I felt so bad for her that I wanted to leave my party just to help her. Management seriously needs to address that. The food overall was ok at best. My group loved the brisket nachos. Everything else didn't have much flavor. The country atmosphere was pretty cool. This isn't the kind of place I would come back to for food. Drinks a nice time, though. Yes.

Lauren U.

Yelp
Ordered to go food here, honestly some of the best southern food I've had in a while. Cornbread is amazing, their chicken coop fried honey chicken is AMAZING, and mashed potatoes and gravy were so die for. Definitely will be ordering again
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Not sure if I would give this place another shot. The only pro is the food was good. So the negatives definitely outweigh the positives. First, they were out of a lot of ingredients for drinks, the margs were way too salty, oh, and my friend found a fly in her drink. Ok now, the bill comes and there were three different items on our bill that we didn't order. The waitress Tatum did apologize and removed the items. All is forgiven, but then we gave her $40 in cash and a card to put the rest of the bill on. She took it upon herself to only put $20 on the bill and charge the rest on the card. So what happened to the other $20? We didn't bother complaining because we were going to tip her $20 anyway. We just found it odd that she took her tip out of the money that was meant for the bill. So people just make sure you check your receipts!

Tom J.

Yelp
I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could. I've been going there for years and years. Today I walked in and there was a life size cut out of President Donald Trump. I will be back tomorrow.

Vicki G.

Yelp
This place has clearly made a political statement that they are in favor of Trump. I have been coming here for years, and I asked the bartender if that sign could be put down. She threatened to kick me out. I don't understand why your business would do that, I will never recommend them to anyone ever again.

Michael M.

Yelp
We ordered food from the restaurant and used Door Dash for delivery. After an hour of waiting, the Door Dash delivery person called and said our order had not been started. We told him to cancel it and he added that he's had problems with Firewater Saloon's deliveries in the past. We called the restaurant and the employee said their paper jammed in the order printer so they never got it. This is the second time we've had a problem with a delivery from here. It's a great place to eat at but I wouldn't have anything delivered.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
Been here many times, usually for the live country music, which is usually a hit. Sat outside on a Tuesday, post-pandemic. It wasn't super busy, but definitely picked up by the time we left. They have outdoor seating, as well as indoor since their front windows open. Drinks and food were good. I had the BBQ brisket and my friend had the BBQ pork.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
I went here to meet up my brother and his family for Breakfast with Santa. It was such a fail that we literally had one drink and asked for the check. First of all, the place said that it was reservations only. Instead, they kept the bar open to allow maskless customers to crowd in and watch football. They put our party of 7 at three round bar tables. Yes, you read that right. Three bar tables. There are two kids under the age of 5 and we are at a BAR TABLE. We also were seated for about 20 minutes before we were acknowledged by a server. They also, for reasons never explained, had a teen band playing Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, and Nickelback. You know....Christmas. They also played so loud that nobody could hear each other, especially the kids. The only good parts were Santa did come early to the table and was pretty good (he was maskless) and my Bloody Mary was great. I downed it about 3 minutes because we had to get out of this here and go to lunch somewhere else. This is a MAGA magnet so I would recommend going to the hundred other options around. They might be as irritating, but it's not in your face. Also, Merry Christmas and God Bless America. There is no war on Christmas or god. Get a grip on yourself.

Marie P.

Yelp
Great spot! The food is very tasty and good quality. They make their dressings in house - they were great with the wings! Great service! I dinged it star as the restaurant interior could use a refresh like new furniture and better layout - but altogether great food & fun menu
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Friendly place in the heart of Edison Park. Sidewalk seating is most comfortable but inside has a great atmosphere too. Bands at night are really great and nice neighborhood crowd. Food is great. A real "foodie choice", server Jordan was most helpful without being a pest. She is a star !!!!! Highly recommend.

Raymond B.

Yelp
They don't pay the bands that play there. They say they will Zelle the payment and never do. Please do not patronize this place!

Mike N.

Yelp
Had a great burger here a couple days ago. A 1/2 lb burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well! I would rate it a top burger in the area. Service was also great!

John H.

Yelp
911 Got food poisoning chicken was cold Went back few weeks later I seen the bartender told her about my experience, but given the circumstances this is a bar not a restaurant . Had a few drinks and wing cold again ! I was playing bingo there. Bartender / owner flip out ! My friend and I was told pay the tab and go we would not recommend any one to go there I going to call the city tomorrow to find someone food poisoning there no Quality control on the food. Don't waste your money there

Scott O.

Yelp
this place is amazing! food is incredible and service is excellent! wonderful people and great bands

Yelp
While I'm Chicago back in April, we wanted to find somewhere close to our hotel where we could enjoy live music and good food. The music was supposed to begin at 7, so we got there around 6:15 and ordered the nachos and some drinks. We left at 8:00 and the live music hadn't started yet.

Sue R.

Yelp
As a bar, this might be an OK place to come, but if you're looking for a place to eat, avoid avoid avoid. Everything is extremely greasy even there Walden hamburgers have grease oozing out of them. The servers do the best they can but there's not much you can do about the quality of the food. They need to look at ways to improve and use higher quality meats and products. Use more pressure fruits and vegetables. Everything seems packaged. It's not even typical bar food. I know they make money on liquor, but it doesn't mean you can't have better food. You also need to be more flexible and offer for options for people that don't want pork on this and pork on that or bacon or ham. Just some suggestions potential isn't worth it

Yelp
I went there on a Monday morning for breakfast with a friend. She goes there all the time , it was my first time. It was a beautiful morning, the widows were all open and it was not busy . They serve breakfast all day I think ? Any way I ordered a make your own omelette with eggs whites. Our server did tell us it had to go back between they forgot the egg whites . I appreciate that. The coffee was very good , any place for breakfast has to have good coffee. My friend tried the tomato eggs Benedict, and said it was delicious. My omelette was very good , served with potatoes and toast. So head to downtown Edison park and try them out for breakfast.

Amy C.

Yelp
I've eaten inside at lot and it's always very good. Ordered carry out recently, for the first and last time. Never again. Half of our order sat on the counter getting cold while waiting for the remaining. I asked if the order was ready after more food was put up at the counter, just sitting there. one of the cooks told me to wait by the bar. WTH Food was cold and good at all. Very disappointed in the food and how rude the kitchen staff was.

Debra S.

Yelp
Went there last week It was great. Food was good. Service was excellent. I'm glad we went back.

Yelp
Stopped in after work for a late lunch. Nice comfortable place, the pulled pork egg rolls were great especially the slaw. The servers are friendly and the food came out quickly and was good. Plenty of refreshment on tap and there are happy hour prices. Go in and see these folks. I like this place and will be back.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
I come here often because my boyfriend plays in a band that plays here a few times a year. Their drinks are always 10/10 delicious. I don't really care for BBQ or southern food but they have a decent variety of tasty items. Portions are huge and the service is usually pretty good as well. The atmosphere and vibe is always lively and I love all the live music they offer. The place itself is smaller and can get very crowded on weekends but they do offer outdoor seating during the summer.
google avatar

Sal C.

Yelp
Their food is pretty good and they do give you big portions. I recommend the chicken po boy sandwich. The atmosphere is pretty fun as well and they also have live music at times.
