New Bay Area Restaurant and Bar Openings in August 2024 | Eater SF

"Opened in Los Gatos by owner Elizabeth Truong, this Asian-fusion restaurant is an homage to her first child’s favorite foods, featuring a Vietnamese-influenced menu with dishes like fried mushrooms, grilled sugar cane pork skewers, and miso dill salmon." - Dianne de Guzman

We recently had a fantastic time dining at First Born, and the experience was truly memorable thanks to their innovative food and unique presentation. The creativity on the menu is immediately apparent. A highlight for us was definitely the burger experience, where the delivery via "burger bots" added a unique and fun modern twist to an already delicious dish. Beyond the novelty, the quality of the burger itself was excellent. We also thoroughly enjoyed the noodles, which were perfectly prepared and deeply flavorful, proving that their menu mastery goes beyond their signature concepts. The spring roll wraps were another great choice—fresh, crisp, and a wonderful way to start the meal. If you're looking for a restaurant that offers both high-quality, delicious food and a bit of fun with its delivery, First Born is the place. It's an inventive and satisfying spot that we highly recommend!

The food was solid and full of flavor, and the cocktails were crafted with care — balanced, bold, and on point. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The interior decor? Stunning. Thoughtfully designed with a clear attention to ambiance. That said, we were seated outside despite having a reservation. The outdoor area lacked the same charm and atmosphere as the inside, making the experience feel like a noticeable downgrade. It’s a place worth visiting, but make sure your table matches the vibe you came for.

We set a Sunday brunch reservation for the live DJ because we wanted to party while we ate. The food is fusion Vietnamese and was true to the flavor with all the dishes we tried. The bun xeo tacos, pho fries, fried chicken with pandan waffles and cafe sua da syrup, and banh mi burger all carried the essence of their original dishes flavors. Their mixologists are very good. All our cocktails were satisfying. Service was friendly and happy. We were late for our reservation so they had to give it away, but they were able to accommodated us in a reasonable amount of time.

This restaurant was absolutely fantastic, from the service to the atmosphere to the delicious food. Every dish we had was unique and full of flavor. The pork riblets were incredibly tender, and the prawns were cooked to perfection. The standout side dish was the ube sticky rice because of its flavor—I’ve never had anything like it! Shoutout to the chef for the outstanding appetizers, mains, and desserts! We will be back the next time we’re in town!!

Google
went on a Thursday evening. we were surprised by how quiet it was. The food is great. if you are looking for a bunch of delish small plates this is the place for you. Loved the chicken egg roll, which tastes surprisingly light and clean as egg rolls. My partner got a great Hendrick Martini and I asked for a Roku Gin Sour, which is not on the menu, and the bartender crafted both of them perfectly. Brandon, our waiter, was very pleasant and attentive. we had a lovely time and will return.

Google
Great food and incredible service! The drinks and cocktails were definitely a highlight, but the food was incredible too. The Burger Bot in the back of the restaurant was really interesting, and it was cool to see it in action. Loved the decor and the way it was styled inside and out. Definitely worth visiting for dinner if you’re in Los Gatos!

5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We celebrated my girlfriend’s birthday at First Born in Los Gatos with a group of 14, and the experience was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed—our table was beautifully set with champagne waiting for us, setting the perfect tone for the night. The service was top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff making sure everything ran smoothly. The food? Absolutely excellent! One thing we didn’t realize when booking was that it’s a tapas-style restaurant, meaning shareable plates—which actually made the experience even better, as we got to try a little bit of everything. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the restaurant itself is in a gorgeous building, making for a great first impression as we walked up. The drinks were just as impressive as the food—delicious and well-crafted. Overall, First Born exceeded our expectations, and I’ll definitely be returning. If you’re looking for great food, drinks, and ambiance in Los Gatos, this place is a must-visit!

Yelp
I've had their food twice now and both times I've just been so impressed. First I tried their steak and rice dish called Shake'n Beef, Paper (their eggrolls), a mushroom dish called Fun Guy, and a rose lemonade. The shake'n beef comes with house marinated filet minon, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, and Jasmine rice. The beef is so tender and flavorful. The photo didn't do much justice for its serving size, there is a good amount of steak. The fun guy dish is a deep fried battered mushroom dish- one is an enoki mushroom. The seasoning in the batter really makes this so delicious especially dipped into the aoili it comes with. These are deep fried with jalapeños and that flavor addition just compliments everything else so nicely. The Paper are chicken eggrolls made with mung bean noodles, carrots, green onions, and served with sweet chili sauce. These are so obviously made in house. They come hot and fresh and crispy, I would order these ever time . The rose lemonade was just a bottled carbonated rose lemonade. It was alright. Tonight I got their Longevity noodles. These are thick chewy egg noodles tossed in their delightful house "mom sauce" which is also on the steak I had ordered last time. It's a savory sauce that has a really full flavor profile. I added beef, you can choose to add beef, chicken, prawns, or tofu for protein, I added beef and again it's just so tender. Their service is really great every time. This place is super trendy but follows up with quality.

Yelp
Well, this place was a surprise! The service was fantastic. The menu is a bit too eclectic for me however, everything we ate was delicious. The portion sizes are very generous. Now let's talk food: The tofu spring rolls, Brussels and papaya salad were perfection Butter chicken was ok. I will be going back to check the rest of the menu out.

Yelp
We were in town for a few nights and were looking for a good meal - something with a cool menu, different than what we could get at home. First born completely blew us away. If I'm near Los Gatos again, I will be sure to pop in. For drinks we had: a couch potato and one other drink. Both were AWESOME. Beautiful and delicious. For apps, we had sugar cane and green beans. Sugar cane- pork on sugar cane skewers- was unlike anything I've eaten before and it was so good. I'm salivating just thinking about it. And the green beans were perfectly seasoned and so well cooked. For dinner: Shake N Beef, and the As You Wish. My boyfriend loved the Shake N Beef (I can attest the sauce was really good) and I had the as you wish. The chicken was delicious (I do wish it were a bit larger) but the star of this was the ube sticky rice. OMG was it delicious. I've never had anything that tasted or looked like this rice before, and I will dream about it until I eat it again. The service- both our waiter and the bartender- were also lovely. Thank you for a great night!!!

Yelp
Came here for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Wanted something with an Asian Fusion style and it was great. Parking- the restaurant was near a corner and a little hard to spot. We found street parking. No direct handicap parking near by. Ambiance- there was live music right in the front and outdoor seating too. Service- we were seated right away. It was a very high ceiling. The bar area looked huge and regal in decor. There was a robot to assemble a hamburger if you were to order that. Our server was Brandon. He was very attentive and checked on us regularly. We were never without water for long. All the bussers were also on hand to clear our used plates and very professional. Dishes- -Sugar Cane: it's grilled pork wrapped around a stick of sugar cane. The Vietnamese vinaigrette paired perfectly with the lettuce, noodles and pickled carrots and daikon. You eat it like a wrap. It was one of my favorites. -Green Beans: mom's sauce was also perfect and beans very fresh and still had a snap -Longevity: we added the chicken. It was okay. The chicken was a little dry and it was just a typical noodle dish. -Shake'n Beef: the filet mignon was very tender and seasoned well. I might be a little picky about my rice, but the bowl of jasmine rice was average. Thoughtfulness- we didn't order dessert but when they found out we were celebrating our anniversary, they gave us a complimentary dessert. They added that personal touch and made a great first impression. Return Factor: Absolutely, coming back with more people so we can try more variety of dishes.

Yelp
Had a reservation on a Tuesday for 5 people. Was able to call ahead to pre-order appetizers due to us celebrating a birthday. Ambiance was clean and modern. There was a full bar and an interesting display where there was a robot that assembled burgers. We did not order a burger but got a few things to share. Sticky fingers chicken wings *Surf & Turf spring rolls *Ahi Tuna rice bites Fun Guy (mushrooms) Caviar *Shrimp'n - shrimp with papaya salad Green Beans Sugar Cane pork skewers *Favorites Food was good. Service was better. Mostly came to celebrate a special occasion. Glad we did! Also, we were too full for dessert but we got a complimentary birthday dessert! Side note: the rose lemonade was delicious!

Yelp
Nice addition to Los Gatos. A very interesting place and background on the names of the restaurants and menu items. Owner is very nice and personable. Warm and contemporary and then there's this robot behind the glass! It makes hamburgers!! Great idea with some interesting potential. Food was excellent. The rice bites while heavy, was very tasty and fresh cubes of ahi on top. The shrimp and papaya salad was a nice pop of freshness with perfectly grilled / charred shrimp with that Vietnamese flavor profile. The shakin beef was also a star. Well marinated filet (yes, definitely filet) served sizzling! So good. For dessert, we tried the banana chocolate tart. Very well done, although I kinda wish the whipped was more heavy cream forward. Definitely a restaurant I would return to!

Yelp
Casual luxury with a deep touch of casual. The service is great! Taylor did an amazing job making my "Mexican Stand Off" with a surprising touch of spice. And the espresso martini really helped wake me up from my afternoon nap.

Yelp
I've been to Breaking Dawn for brunch and have been meaning to try First Born, which is their dinner concept. Since I was in the area for an appointment with my dog, I decided that it would be an opportune time for me. I stopped by around 6pm. Since the windows were tinted, I couldn't tell if the place was open but I peaked in. I saw that they were definitely open and have been since 3pm. It wasn't busy inside, but I told the hostess that I'd sit in the outdoor patio with my dog. I've had great service from Breaking Dawn, so I wouldn't expect any less. The wait staff was lovely. I think I had 2 guys rotating serving my dishes and drinks, who were really nice and friendly. They also treated my dog with the utmost respect, which was much appreciated. I ordered a couple of drinks, including They Not Like Us and After Party. They Not Like Us was my server's current favorite drink off the menu, and I could see why. Loved the fruitiness but the meringue was divine. After Party was an interesting cocktail, like if an espresso martini and mojito had a baby. I wasn't super hungry, so I got apps that my server recommended. His favorite small plates were the Rice Bites and Fun Guy. The Fun Guy came out first. Perfect play on words as it's their fried mushroom dish. I'm a huge fan of enoki mushrooms, which they used. They did a light fry, so the texture was delicate and not soggy. The mushrooms sat on a bed of lemon aioli. The Rice Bites were cool. The rice toasts (for lack of better description) were extra crunchy. If you like crispy burnt rice, this would be your jam. It was flavorful from its sauce, but I would've loved to have more tuna. I got a s'mores bomb for good measure. Damn this was an expensive dessert at $25, but I guess worth the indulgence. My server poured warm caramel over the chocolate bomb to reveal the s'mores brownie inside. Loved the caramel and enjoyed the brownie, which was more dense and fudgy in texture. It came with a side of ice cream, fresh berries, and feuilletine for texture. While everything tasted really good, I thought that calling this dish "s'mores" was an abstraction. Nothing about it really screamed s'mores to me. There were white things in the brownie that were probably mini marshmallows, but they sure didn't accentuate any marshmallow flavor... or was the ice cream supposed to be marshmallow flavor? I couldn't tell albeit tasted like vanilla bean to me. Give me marshmallow fluff or something. All-in-all, I had an pleasant dinner with the pups and would come back again with the hubby to try main dishes.

Yelp
Have been here for brunch for a friend's bday. Love the atmosphere, it's beautiful inside. I' live a plant based vegan life style (for over 20 yrs), so it was unfortunate there weren't more vegan options, however the fresh spring rolls are a must for anyone , so good & super flavorful. Only bummer was our server was supposed to come back & confirm if the sunflower butter sauce was vegan or not , he never did. We ordered the Brussels (best flavor ever), friends ordered the Longevity noodles w beef and they loved the dish "so good and flavorful". The chef accommodated by making the Golden Mountain rice vegan ( thank you chef!), was grateful and didn't disappoint - made with white rice, topped w spinach and kimchi flavored veggies. Drinks were incredible (pricey) so flavorful, 2 of us opted for the Pornstar Martini (comes w a small 1/2 glass of Mums Napa for "pallet cleanse"), other friend got the Summer Anthem, she loved it and I got a sip - this damn mixologist - clearly a pro and they def know what they're doing, Theme of the night - FLAVOR throughout our experience. I'd only ask that there are more vegan options and non cross-contamination in the frier. (Which was a bit surprising for such a top notch spot. Could've had the truffle fries and a few other options). Only reason for 4 vs 5 's. Soooo, If you're in Los Gatos it's def a must, lovely bar, plenty of seating. Get there early around 5:30 and no seating probs. Also plenty of other things to do in beautiful quaint downtown LG.

Yelp
Oh how I had such high hopes for this restaurant. I'm a long time resident and have seen a variety of restaurant iterations at this beautiful location. Unfortunately, First Born hugely misses the mark. We tried 6 things (several mains and small bites) and they were all consistently bland and lacked flavor! Not one tasted good or real restaurant worthy. :( At least add some spices. So uninspiring and bummed me out. The service wasn't great as well (understaffed). Waiter was nice, but didn't know any specifics about the food. One and done for us.

Yelp
Wow! I'm super picky when it comes to Asian food, especially when you see a high-end restaurant like this. Usually the food is subpar and it's all about the ambience. But in this case, absolutely not it was both! The food was on point I had the surf and turf, spring rolls and the noodle dish with steak. absolutely tasty and delicious. Brandon was my server and he was very accommodating and over-the-top polite and courteous. Very professional. I had the mai tai and wow! Just absolutely wow! I go to Florida often and they can't even make a mai tai like they can!!!!! Flavorful, ambiance and service on point!

Yelp
Dropped in to check this place out after soda works had too long of a line. My family LOVES Asian food so Asian style tapas hit the spot. Our waiter was very attentive and gave us a lot of suggestions the food was fantastic and came out quickly. We will definitely be back. I think my favorites were the longevity noodles and the bacon cheddar waffles were very underrated in a great way Lastly the ambience is fun there was a live DJ and Christmas decor and a fancy bar but not too loud.

Yelp
Very peculiar place: fancified Vietnamese food was tasty, but atmosphere and vibe were trying too hard and felt off. 2.5 stars Food 4 Service: 2 (due to hostess, waiter was fine) Atmosphere 2 Cost to worth it rating: 2 (overpriced for small portions) Opentableable: yes Return worthiness: no Highlights: - Surf and turf rolls: soft rice paper rolls with beef and shrimp were fantastic. Fun elevation from the standard pork and shrimp. 4.5 stars - Chicken wings: sticky but not too saucy with a punch of flavor yet tender chicken meat inside. 4.5 stars - Fried rice: complex flavors with marinated beef and Gochujang. Really enjoyed it. 4.25 stars - Noodles: good solid unctuous flavors and pleasant noodle texture. You can pick your protein and we went chicken. 4 stars Midlights: - Chicken egg rolls: more a crispy spring roll texture than egg roll which was fine but not as much seasoning inside. 3.5 stars - Shaken beef: usually the go to dish but this was oddly not a fave. Was ok and cubes remained soft, but flavors were more mild than expected. 3 stars - Cocktails: hit or miss. My friend specifically asked for one that wasn't sweet and got a sickly sweet one, I got one that was a bubble show that was impressive but didn't taste that great. However the paper plane was fine, and the cuba libre with sparking was outstanding. -More evidence of the personality disorder where they need to figure out who they are. Lowlights: - Had a reservation and got there and the hostesses nonchalantly said tables are full so will be a 20 minutes. Tried to pawn us off on the sad looking outdoor table area with no apologies or concern for the inconvenience. Not the first impression you want to be giving so started off already feeling unhappy. - Very sparse empty white space felt like an art gallery and then had a dj in one corner and a robot burger setup in the back--none of it fit. - Was trying to be almost Vegas clubby trendy but was a miss - Prices: $17-$19 for rolls, $26 for noodles with chicken, $29 for fried rice, and $39 for shaken beef -- even though most we enjoyed, for this level of quality and small portions, was overkill Has promise with the good food but the rest needs some work if it's to survive--especially in this town with lots of other options.

Yelp
Cool vibes, especially on evenings when they have performers. Special location in downtown right by the corner across from the park. The beef noodles ("Longevity") were a bit too sweet. The vegan fries (Fun Guy) are a must get app. Very cute drinks (look at the bubble for Summer Anthem) and prefer bar seating. Family-run business and went at soft opening so authentic service from the owner/manager
google avatar

Nikita K.

Yelp
Service: good service! very attentive Ambiance: super pretty inside, but kinda cold Food/drink: Brussels sprouts were so yummy and flavorful I will definitely get it again, the food here is a bit pricey but so good.

Yelp
We lucked out. Had reservation for 8 of us on a rainy Thursday night and although there were about 3 small tables of ppl and a few ppl at the bar, we were the biggest party they had this night and got great service. The moment we walked in, great restaurant for dinner and amazing ambiance. It's nicely warmly lit. Bar looks impressive. Wait staff was ready for us. We ordered a few rounds of drinks and also opened a bottle that we brought. Corkage was $35 per bottle. We ordered a bunch of apps x 2 so we all had at least one taste of each item. We shared a few dishes as well, also x 2. Drinks were delicious. Food was great, especially the ribeye. Dessert is a must to end the night. We ordered one share and our bday girl also got one so we had a bite of that as well. Not sure if it's made at the restaurant but good dessert at the end of the night. Thanks to the staff for all our group pics and the attention to the group. It's our first time there and will be back.

Yelp
@firstbornlosgatos is @breakingdawnbrunch sister restaurant serving Pan-Asian cuisine. They are the perfect place to take your next date or even friends/family for a new place to try and enjoy. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and seasoned perfectly. Only thing we wished was the UBE rice (that's right we said UBE) to be more sticky. But other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. - -- -- - Side of Fries Rice Bites - Ahi Tuna on Crispy Rice Longevity - Egg Noodles w/ Mom's Sauce (beef) As You Wish - Roti Chicken w/ Ube Sticky Rice S'Mores Brownie Bomb

Adrienne K.

Yelp
Food was really good, service and bartender not so good. Got our drinks about 20 minutes after ordering. Ordered a second round and after another 20 mins got the wrong drink. Wait staff were lined up at the bar just waiting. Vibe of frustration and Mis management.

Yelp
First born. The perfectionist. The overachiever. Gets blamed for everything. "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" Too bad we all can't be the last born that gets away with everything. =/ From the family that brought you the hottest brunch spot to hit LG, Breaking Dawn comes First Born, their dinner concept from the owner's son. Open for indoor and dog-friendly outdoor dining (parklet). Rezzies on OpenTable. M E N U Elevated Viet Fusion Cuisine. Full bar. For the soft opening, there's only bar bites + drinks. A full dinner menu will roll out in August. - Bar bites menu: https://tinyurl.com/mrxfyyp4 - Cocktails: https://tinyurl.com/3ck4skt4 - Desserts: https://tinyurl.com/bdde75ca D R I N K S * Hendrick's Vesper ($17) // 3 stars: https://tinyurl.com/3affd3mt Heavy on the vermouth so it ran too sweet. * Hendrick's Tonic ($13) // 4 stars Stiff with good carbonation. F O O D * Shrimp'n: Grilled Prawns w/ lemon leaf chili dip ($25) // 4 stars: https://tinyurl.com/45t4sdka Well-spiced shrimp with a nice char and a punchy, herbaceous dip. Served with a refreshing, tangy papaya salad. * Sticky Fingers: Chicken Wings w/ garlic butter soy glaze ($23) // 3 stars: https://tinyurl.com/4n7n425p Tender baked wings, ran too salty. S E R V I C E Friendly, attentive, and prompt (early rezzies). Upon sitting, staff quickly brought out a bowl of water for TT without asking. Our server, Shannon was AWESOME! We were the only ones outside and never felt like neglected. The busboy was always there to keep our water glasses filled in hot weather and to bring extra napkins (without asking). A M B I A N C E Bougie minimalism with gold, white, and black color scheme. Servers in áo dài. At the time we were there, there was live music singing covers. There's four tables in the parklet with a speaker so you can hear the music from inside. Sun sails covering tables from the hot sun. Unfortunately, not all tables are shielded from the sun. P A R K I NG Lot parking right here to the building. There's also street parking and a garage around the corner. Overall, First Born is solid option in LG if you're looking for a hip, trendy place with decent...kinda AZN-y food and dranks (IMO, their brunch was better).

Yelp
We visited First Born again tonight, this time with a friend who hadn't been before. Coincidentally, we got the same server as last time, which we thought was a nice touch! He was great at the start, attentive and friendly. We ordered a mix of dishes: the wings, bacon cheddar waffles, Caesar salad, ribeye noodles, and fried rice. Everything came out quickly and tasted good. However, as the meal progressed, things started to fall apart. Toward the end, our server became scarce, and we later saw that he was busy with a large party that had just come in. While we completely understand that happens, we were left with no server/service.. We wanted to order dessert, but no one came by. Eventually, we had to ask the person refilling our water to get someone to help us. A different server came to take our dessert order, but after 15 minutes with no dessert or coffee, we had to ask for an update. The new server told us the dessert guy was backed up, which felt more like an excuse--possibly that our order wasn't put in. Overall, the beginning of our meal was great, but the service at the end left a sour note. It would have been helpful if our original server had let us know upfront that service might slow down due to the large party. Instead, we were left feeling ignored, which was disappointing after such a strong start.

Yelp
First Born is a very refined place, everything was aesthetically pleasing and great plating. Good service. I liked the Rice Bites appetizer with crispy riced rice patties topped with tuna and spicy mayo; just could have used more of the toppings. I thought the main - Shake 'n Beef was pretty mid, lacked depth of flavor for me - just salty but not much sweetness or acidity or anything. For dessert, the Strawberry Yuzu Tart was pretty good, creamy mousse, smooth tart with a buttery crust all with some fresh strawberry. It was a nice dinner but was expecting a little more for the price tbh.

Yelp
Wonderful first time at First Born! We had such a great time on a busy Saturday night! We sat at the bar, and the service was exceptional--Austin, Kevin, & Mike (if we remember correctly!) were incredibly attentive, friendly, and helpful. Even with the place packed, the chef came out personally to check on our meal--such a thoughtful touch! We started with the Fun Guy (crispy battered mushrooms with tangy sauce) and Rice Bites (tuna on crunchy rice squares)--both delicious. For mains, we had the Underbelly (seared salmon with Vietnamese seasoning) and the Prawns--flavorful and perfectly cooked. We also tried drinks from their new summer cocktail menu--so refreshing and well-balanced. Highly recommend giving them a try! Dessert was the Matcha Misu--light, not overly sweet, and beautifully presented. We took a few photos because everything looked just as good as it tasted. Can't wait to go back!!!

Yelp
WOW when I first walked in! So beautiful I wasn't expecting it, the decor was so luxurious. The food was different yet soooo good!! I loved the different name choices for food and drinks! Ohhh the cocktails were so tasty as well. I will definitely go back!! Oh wait the service was excellent and all were friendly! Love the place!

Yelp
Ugh!!!! We came so my son could try Burger Bot. Gross. Just gross. Hus burger was undercooked by the staff, the bun was soaked in grease and fell apart. I had a "Ceasar" salad with chicken. Sorry, but sweet chili asian sauce is NOT ceasar, and my chicken was dry and like jerky, could not even cut it!. Will NEVER RECOMMEND. A small dinner for 3 ran us $100, and it was NASTY. Waiters never checked on us, except to refill iced tea once. Save your $$$ and go anywhere else, ANYWHERE ELSE.

Yelp
4.5 - Surf & Turf Rolls : They were thick!! Taste and presentation was good. I really appreciate the worker for packing a new sauce for me when I took the rest of it to-go because we couldn't finish all the food. - Fun Guy (Fried mushrooms) : One of my fav items of the night :) Seasoned, battered, and fried nicely. The sauce was good too. They used 2 dif kinds of mushrooms and the thicker one was juicier and the thinner one was crispier. I liked the thicker one more. My bf also really enjoyed it - Cheddar Bacon Waffles : It's good, can see it being great for brunch as well! With eggs and avocado. - Fortunate Son : Presentation and seasoning was good! The gold was a nice touch as well hehe - Rice Bites (Ahi Tuna on Crispy Rice) : Not my fav. The tuna was fine, but I prefer a dif kind of crispy rice - Matcha-Misu : Not too sweet, presentations nice, and good matcha taste - Dilly Dally : Pretty and good - They Not Like Us : My bf enjoyed it, I preferred my drink more Good service, decor, and music :) Would go again to try other items

We had a great meal here. The fried mushrooms and fries were fantastic. I'll be back to try the butter chicken and longevity noodles. The service and space were on point.

Yelp
Nice spot. Fun and classy vibes in our neighborhood. We have been to their sister brunch spot in the same location and love their take on fusion Vietnamese food and were looking forward to trying their dinner menu. Their full dinner menu isn't out yet but we went to their "bar and bites." Being Vietnamese myself, I was surprised by the prices considering I had thought based on the menu I was just going to get typical spring rolls and noodles but was pleasantly surprised by the food and presentation when it came out. It was all well worth it. It would be a great spot to meet up with friends and a great date night place. The presentation of their drinks and food are all meticulous. Glad First Born and Breaking Dawn have come to town and broken the mold!

Yelp
Fantastic service and drinks at this restaurant! If you need a place to decide on going to in Los Gatos, this is a no brainer every time.

Yelp

Yelp
The Aesthetic and ambiance in this restaurant is perfect for any glam girl night, classy date night or even a nice dinner out with your family. I brought my kids and they loved it. We ordered two cocktails , a Paloma and Summer Anthem , and they were amazing! The customer service was great the kept checking in with us and our food came out in a timely matter. Each plate was presented beautifully and each plate just kept elevating our experience, it was all so delicious and refreshing. My favorite was the Surf and Turf rolls and I normally don't like spring rolls so that's says a lot. My kids loved the Bacon + Cheddar waffles with honey butter. We also got a Ribeye with gold flakes and it was cooked just how we like it, right amount of pink inside and not dry at all. We loved the experience and family story behind this restaurant. It's called First Born and the menu is dedicated to the families firstborn child's favorite foods. Such a great experience I recommend checking this place out even if it's just for drinks and small bites whenever you're in the area.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was top-notch! Unfortunately, the ribeye steak wasn't cooked on a hot grill as the serving plate might show.

Yelp
This is a great add to the LG dining scene. Service, decor and the food are great. They win by a mile when it comes to branding and spunk, check out their website.

Yelp
Tapa style for dinner. Food was brought out quick. Attentive staff at the appropriate times. Very comfortable and casual ambience. The food was delicious. Dessert was the bomb! The DJ was a nice touch with the music at a comfortable volume. Will definitely return.

Yelp
The full menu is finally out and it is super worth the wait! Reservations can be made through OpenTable. We went a couple times already and the service is attentive every time. The food comes out pretty quick and there is live music/dj on the weekends. It is perfect for a nice family outing or a date spot. The food is very good with my favorite being the rice bites as an appetizer, but I think the dessert is a must here. Super good and unique Asian flavor twists such as the lychee passion fruit cheesecake. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This place has amazing tasting food with really creative concepts. All of our food was served in probably less than 10 minutes as well. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
delicious vietnamese infused food. Loved everything we ordered. Don't miss the banana tart. Let me warn you that its pretty expensive for the type of food they serve.

Yelp
The food was unusual and tasty with so many flavors swirling on your taste buds! The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. The ambiance was ultra modern with clean lines and dashes of colors. I highly recommend First Born for a unique and delicious experience! Full bar.

Yelp
We went there last Saturday - saw something in the paper that this place just opened. There was a DJ and it was crowded. The presentation was fantastic, the food was beautiful. The steak had gold flakes on it. The weak point was the dessert. But overall we really liked it and it's a great location on the plaza where Blue Line Pizza used to be.

Yelp
Great service! Great food! Great wine! A welcome addition to downtown Los Gatos. This restaurant has taken over from a series of failed restaurants on the past. Let's go, Los Gatos!

Yelp
Vietnamese restaurant, If you live in the bay area, there are many more options at 2x/3x cheaper. This is place is way overpriced for they serve. Food is average. Decor is fine, not authentic, nothing Asian fusion, it's literally american.

Yelp
The food was way better than the descriptions, throughly surprised and was very tasteful

Yelp
My son took us to the soft opening period. Made on line reservation easily, found parking in the lot next door, and were greeted upon arriving. DJ played fun music throughout the dinner. Enjoyed delish cocktails (Grey Clipper, Plum & Herb, & Roku Japanese Gin). Small plates were pretty large & delicious - Sesame Caesar, Sticky Fingers, Surf & Turf Rolls, Longevity Noodles with beef, fun guy (mushrooms) & Toffee Temptation. Also brought a birthday treat with a candle which was a nice touch. Service was excellent. Also had Bridgetown Swizzle & Mau Tim Sour cocktails). Our drinks averaged $18 a piece & our dishes averaged $25 a piece. Can be a bit pricey for some, but we felt the quality & service were worth it to celebrate a birthday.

Yelp
I took the god parents here for a fun outing. They appreciated the robot hamburger machine and I liked the varied menu. I have been to their sister restaurant and liked that as well. Solid 4, but not a huge favorite.

Yelp
Omg. The food here was SO good. We've been to Breaking Dawn, the morning sister restaurant, several times and absolutely love it. The dishes are such savory, rich, indulgent, and delicious modern interpretations of traditional Vietnamese, we've loved everything we've had from there! We've been on the lookout for the dinner menu for Breaking Dawn ever since our first experience at that sister restaurant and were determined to try the dinner set. We were so excited to try the menu here! If you've been to Breaking Dawn, you would wonder how they can get any more creative with their Vietnamese and Asian fusion dishes, but omg, not only do they get more creative, but they do it by infusing each dish with something akin to a flavor explosion. It was that good :) Here's our rundown: - Surf & Turf Rolls - beef and shrimp spring rolls with their sweet house fish sauce. This was SO good and refreshing!! Make sure you balance out your menu selection with a few light and refreshing items so that your meal is more harmonious, this can be one of the refreshers :) - Truffle Fries - this was one of the first items to come out. Omg. SO good. I think this was some of the best truffle fries I've ever had! The sauce it came with with so good too, all to the very end. Yum. - Rice Bites - delicious morsels of raw ahi tuna with house tamarind soy glaze topped on a bed of crispy rice. so good. so good. The textures were delicious. I think it was a tamarind soy glaze, but don't remember because that was 30 min ago. I think I need more :) - Fun Guy - Omg. I did not expect this. A dish came out with a colossal mushroom tower atop a bed of creamy, silken lemon aioli with slices of jalapeno peppers. It was colossal lol. It was also soooooo delicious!! My fiance, who usually doesn't eat with his hands, was so excited to try it that he just grabbed one of the mushroom morsels, dunked it into the lemon aioli, and started chomping at it. So good :) I loved it too!! :) - Shrimp'n - this was a papaya salad with grilled prawns, one of the lighter dishes in our order. It was so refreshing and delicious! Definitely a must given that our other selections were a bit heavier or punchier/bolder in flavor :) - Shake'n Beef - Wow. I've never had a shaken beef flavored like this before. I loved it! The special house sauce was slightly tart, I think they used a tamarind base. It was a really unique and delicious interpretation of the classic shaken beef, delicious! :) - As You Wish - We almost didn't get this dish, but my fiance was like what the heck. Let's try it! Lol. And we're so glad we did! The chicken had a honey soy garlic glaze and rounded out so beautifully with the rough and chewy texture (in a good way!) of the ube sticky rice, pickled carrot and daikon, and house dip. It was so good!! :) - Golden Mountain - this was kind of reminiscent of a Korean bipbimbap to me because of the Golden eggy mountain and gochujang sauce :) It was also delicious! I loved the inclusion of sauteed veggies, which helped to balance out the bolder and more indulgent runny yolk and morsels of beef :) - Chocolate Banana Tart - one of our go-to desserts! We've had this multiple times at Breaking Dawn, this one's always a winner :) - Chocolate Oasis Fondue - so fun!! I loved that they had chocolate fondue here! It was such a beautiful way to end such a fun-filled and delicious evening, dipping fruits and chocolate cake bits into molten chocolate with friends :) Life is good :) Drinks: Arnold Palmer - Just a black tea with lemonade, my go-to :) Sparkling Rose Lemonade - this was pretty epic. I love sparkling water, I love rose, and I love lemonade. What a way to make worlds collide :) Overall, I didn't rate the dishes individually because basically everything was basically a 5/5 for outstanding :) Beautiful venue, kind servers, amazing food :) The perfect place to have delicious food and make new memories with your loved ones :)
