Ordered delivery Food was delivered hot and quickly Quality of chicken is meh super dry overly sauced The pieces of chicken are so dry on the inside you have to keep chewing til you end up spitting them out. So dry it's strings getting stuck in your teeth Fried rice is just onions and loads of soy sauce Honestly not great

Google
Tried this place first time last night because of the great reviews. Ordered garlic shrimp and at first glance was pleased with the amount of food for the price. However, after I started eating, realized I had gotten about 10 shrimp and a plate full of celery and water chestnuts. That is, with rice that came on the side, I got about 1 lb of celery and water chestnuts smothered in sauce. It felt almost malicious.

Google
Great food and super fast service. Best general Tso’s chicken in town! We also tried the chicken lo mein and it was good. The portions easily feed 2 people. It is takeout only now.

Been wanting to leave a review for a while. I’ve been coming here for the last few years and the food has been great. It really do serve a lot of food. They separate the entrée and the rice which a lot of other restaurants do not do. It literally feeds 2 to 3 people. We’re a family of 4 with 2 small kids and 1 entree feeds us all. Highly recommend.

Google
This is my go to in Austin! I treat myself at least once a month, 2x if I’ve had a rough week. The portions are great and the Buddha delight veggies are sooo good! I always get the chicken lo mien as well, it never disappoints! 10/10 recommends

Ordered pick up for me and my Dad. Food was still really warm when we got home. Delicious. Nice portion size. Able to eat for dinner as well! Thank y’all

Google
I had the combination fried rice and the hot and sour soup. The fried rice is drenched with soy sauce. There is no flavor except the soy sauce. The meat, especially the beef, is very gristly and I have to spit it out every time. The hot and sour soup has a good flavor, but it is very watery. The ingredients are mostly egg and mushroom. The portion is very big and cheap, but the quality is just not there.

Tried to for the first time a few days ago. For the price portions are great and they were super fast :) No complaints this will easily be a favorite of mine ❤️ I got vegetable lo mein w/added tofu, spring roll, egg roll, and garlic pork!

Hannah K.

Yelp
I'm simultaneous disappointed and impressed. Disappointed because when I order "broccoli with tofu," I expect deep-fried tofu with crispy edges, smothered in a garlicky brown sauce. A bit trashy, oily, but comforting and nostalgic. This version is decidedly more healthy, with huge chunks of steamed firm tofu in a very light, almost clear, almost flavorless sauce. That said, I really can't be mad; it was a TON of surprisingly healthy, fresh, and hot food. No lie, it must have been at least two pounds of protein and veggies, plus a pint STUFFED full of white rice, crispy wonton chips, and a fortune cookie. All of one regular entree order, not even a lunch special. Knowing this, absolutely I'd order again. Just spring for some hot chili oil to spice things up.

J L.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years but won't be coming back anymore. The last few times the shrimp tastes horrible like it's gone bad and they still served it. Also, some of the meat in my dish was ice cold like if it was refrigerated already cooked and then tossed into the hot rice and mixed up with it.

Yelp
I view Americanized Chinese food as separate from Chinese food - not necessarily because the flavors and ingredients are different but more so because they fulfill different cravings. While I consider soup dumplings or dim sum as comfort food, Americanized Chinese food feels more like a guilty pleasure. While Panda Express fulfills that craving very well, I like having other local options, and First Wok is one of them. The portions are huge and I think good for the price. My favorite thing here is their Crab Puffs (aka Crab Rangoons) - it is an extremely satisfying version of it. I also like their General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken. Their Orange Chicken is okay but it's hard to beat the Panda Express version that forever stays in my mind. I've also tried the Sweet and Sour Pork but it is not done well here so I would try another place if that is what you're craving.

Amber A.

Yelp
Delicious and still huge portions. I miss dine in, but take out is fast. Dinner portion is huge with enough soup and entree for several meals, so still my jam after all these years. If you bus, the stop is right in front of the restaurant, so very convenient if you live nearby. Will def be back, and it was great to pay the restaurant directly for once, not DoorDash or Grubhub. Got all the food pictured for $16 -can't beat it.

Brooke C.

Yelp
Honestly great for take out. Huge portions, fast service, tasty. When you're craving old school Chinese fast food- this is the place to go.

Lindsay N.

Yelp
I've gotten food here with my dad for about 15 years (since I was 6 years old). I've been to a lot of other places, but they don't come close to how great the food is here :) it's my favorite place to go when I come home to Austin from college

Dillar S.

Yelp
Good old greasy Chinese food!!! Perfect for that old school craving. Great prices too!

Amanda C.

Yelp
The food here is always prepared well. We haven't had one instance of a bad experience here other than the construction that forced everyone to use the S 1st entrance. Other than that though we definitely recommend coming here as they give nice portions for the amount and are always super fast!

Keila R.

Yelp
I ordered sweet n sour and orange chicken w fried Rice. Rice was bland and orange chicken was chewy ate little to none of it and just trashed it.

Robert M.

Yelp
My friends told me about this place to try for a quick take out place and it was great! I came in around 9 pm on a Friday and the kids were playing in the dining room which just showed me the dedication of these owners! The food flavor was amazing and is now definitely my #1 go to spot for chinese take out.

Zach R.

Yelp
The sweet and sour chicken was to die for. The portions were sized so large for the price that I could eat it for a few days (that's saying a lot, I'm a big boy). The service was excellent although there was no dine in option. We also received free wonton chips and fortune cookies. What a restaurant!!

Justin M.

Yelp
Lets face it we all love Chinese food, from Generals Tsu's chicken which will make diabetics cringe, to fried rice and beyond it's a comfort food for us. First Wok is located in a very accessible area of town and are fast with fulfilling orders. That said their lobby is still closed so only take out is available. So, if you're wanting to belly up to a table and get your carbs on, no dice hombre. They packed my meal very well and it was still so hot when I got home, I almost burnt my tongue (I live 20 mins away). The soups are fantastic. I had the wonton soup with had a light but flavorful broth with 2 huge wontons for the lunch special studded with green onions. While I didn't get any bok choy in it the soup was still really good. The hot and sour soup was equally tasty and well executed although it wasn't what one generally gets from a Chinese restaurant. I was expecting some tofu and mildly flavored however this version had a lot of mushrooms and egg strains throughout the soup. The heat comes from what I think was white pepper and while the heat isn't that hot, it does linger in the mouth for a bit. I'll add in the egg rolls here as they weren't much to write home about. A smidge below generic with boring filler and lots of dough. I wish they had fried spring rolls instead, but I'm not going to complain much about that. Now onto the main courses! I'm going to start with my least favorable item the pork fried rice. While the rice was perfectly cooked and the meat was plentiful, the execution was off. I almost think the cap from the soy sauce broke off b/c the rice was seriously dark and the soy flavor was off the charts. I didn't enjoy it and this is the third Chinese restaurant to cook this way. I'm not sure if that's the style now, but I don't care for it. As for the protein, I was expecting Char Siu for pork. For those who don't know that's the pork with the red ring and very tasty with notes of Asian goodness. The pork I got was just added to a hot work and not cooked with traditional Chinese methods. Next up was the Lo Mein. The noodles tasted stale to me as if they've been laying around for a while or in some package. Moreover, I wish restaurants would be more consistent as the noodles weren't round but like a rectangle if looking at it from the top. While this may sound trivial the shape of food makes a different in flavor. For instance, elbow macaroni doesn't taste like spaghetti even though they're the same ingredients. That's because it hits the taste buds differently and tricks our minds into thinking it's a flavor rather than texture. Finally, and I noticed this off the bat, is great Chinese restaurants have a slight smoky flavor to Lo Mein and fried rice among some other dishes. This is subtle yet can really elevate the dish and it comes from a wok that's been seasoned for years. I know I'm nitpicking here but these things really make a difference. My last option was the chicken rice noodle or "house noodle". Most Chinese restaurants have opted for the "Singapore rice noodle" as their mainstay by adding curry. I like that too but I prefer the simpler option. But let me tell you it was outstanding! Plenty of shredded carrots, celery and onion along with thin rice noodles and plenty of meat. The flavor is on point with what I'm accustom to having and the textures are spot on. While I prefer the chicken option I'm confident all meat options will be flavorful In summary the portion size and prices are a real selling point for any family. Also, First Wok is easily accessible in terms of driving and the staff are very friendly. However I found that one dish out of three wasn't enough to entice me back anytime soon until I have a desire for chicken rice noodles again. I believe a lot of short cuts are used which isn't deal breaking but disappointing. Overall not a horrible experience but not one to pull me back either.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Excellent authentic fast food is Chinese. The portions are enormous and always hot. I would suggest going to lunch- they have really good lunch specials. The dining room is not open- only takeout.

Katie T.

Yelp
Love the food, the portions, the price, the service! It's a no nonsense ordering experience meaning be ready to order because they are moving food through here at light speed! Also, you have to ask but their homemade chili sauce is delicious. Love it!!

Martin M.

Yelp
First wok is by far the best Chinese food in Austin. I've been coming here for years and will continue coming as long as I'm here. Great prices for large portions. Can't go wrong with first wok. I do wish the dining room was open!

Brian G.

Yelp
First Wok is a gem. Food is tasty and a great value for the price. It's been my go-to spot for years.

Bonita A.

Yelp
Best Chinese Food in Austin, Tx. I hope that they open back up to eating in instead of takeout only!

Bud B.

Yelp
Absolutely delightful! The food always comes in massive portions jumping with flavor. No shït best I've had in the Austin and surrounding area!

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
We have patronized this place for over 30 years and the service and food have been consistently amazing!

Aaron K.

Yelp
I was looking for some classic Americanized Chinese comfort food that I grew up with... First Wok delivered just that, ample portions of sweet n sour chicken with veggies, ample dipping sauce, and hot mustard. Fried rice was on point. So basically this place took me back to a thirteen year old self where Mah was trying to provide for four kids, thanks First Wok. I look forward to it again some time down the line. Eat First Wok & call your Mah.

Eddie G.

Yelp
Definitely a quantity over quality type of meal. Fried rice tasted a couple days old and the orange chicken was about 80% breading and 20% chicken. Egg roll I got, I enjoyed that's about it.

Robert P.

Yelp
You will never be hungry after you order from here. They always give you large portions. The fried rice is ok but the rest of the food is really good. They usually gave the food ready in about 15 minutes and the process are very reasonable

Cameron N.

Yelp
They're great! It's a simple little hole in the wall place for takeout. The lunch special was super affordable, coming out at $9.50 pre-tax. The staff were super quick as well. Will return!

Priscilla K.

Yelp
Food delicious, arrived fast! Not pricy... worth the trial. Used to dine at bamboo garden but that has closed permanently so sad. Need to find a new Chinese restaurant quickly!

Chris M.

Yelp
It was a 2.5 star experience, for which I will round up to 3-stars (A-OK). Looking for great lunch options around Austin area since I sometimes am able to work from home, I've been on an Asian Cuisine kick lately and searched Yelp / Eater / Google / etc....for really good lunch options in the area. First Wok popped up on the short list and I bookmarked them. The reviews on Yelp were mostly positive, although a few suspect, but I took a chance one Friday afternoon to check this place out. First think I notice when I got here - I know this place. I've driven by it several times and thought about stopping in but never have. For COVID they are not allowing anyone inside - you either call in your order or you can put in an order at the front door where they have a table blocking your entrance. I have no idea what to order so I ask for their help, they have me a few options with one being their fried rice is popular. He said I could order combination so I did. Went down the list and "Triple Delight" caught our eye. He said it was going to be spicy and has a few veggies and meats in it - I just nodded and ordered it. Prices here are respectable and reasonable for lunch. So - let's start with the fried rice. You get a lot for your money here - yes that's true. The to-go container was heavy, they stuffed it with fried rice which had shrimp and beef bits and an egg roll embedded. The taste was.....okay. It's just a lot of dark soy sauce mixed in with the rice, and to me that's not really authentic. It's not the best fried rice I've had but it was okay. Would I get this again? Ehhh, maybe if I was on a budget looking to fill up. I guess that's the best way to explain it. The Triple Delight dish was primarily some beef and thin veggies in a dark sauce. It looked okay, it tasted somewhat bland though - lacked some flavor. I don't know why or what, but the quality is mediocre - although not bad. They give you a lot of food, I could not finish it, but I wasn't really excited to finish it if that makes sense. I got a sweet red dipping red sauce for the egg rolls - that was okay, very syrupy. The egg drop soup has a strong yolk taste which turned me off, yet the won-ton soup was okay and respectable. So overall it wasn't a delightful experience here, but you do kinda get your bang for the buck with good portions and respectable prices, yet the quality is okay and doable. I would possibly go back here to check other dishes out and may ask for it to be steamed and see how those are, but we shall see.

Kristine T.

Yelp
Jalapeno chicken was nothing but stiry fry peppers and onions, absolutely no chicken anywhere. Combination fried rice was over cooked and salty! what happened???

Katie B.

Yelp
To go only still as of 10/27/22. Just FYI for anyone wanting to dine-in. Lunch menu prices are good. $8.25-$8.75. Entree, rice, soup, egg roll and wonton crunchies. 11-3pm M-S, closed on Tuesday

Christopher T.

Yelp
I've been trying to find the best Chinese food to replace stingy PANDA EXPRESS and I was recommended this place and let me tell you, this place has the best food I can find in Austin. I would definitely recommend people to eat 1st wok Chinese food.

Suz L.

Yelp
I love this place. Only place left where you can get lunch under $10 in Austin. It's classic American Style Chinese with the neon colored sauces. Sold classic.

Rohit G.

Yelp
Really quick, consistent asian food in south Austin. It's take out only and you get a ton of food for the money. You could easily make 3 meals out of one item. Try the Singapore noodles - light oil and extra spicy

Amanda H.

Yelp
Terrible food! My order was wrong, parts were missing. When I called, they yelled at me, and proceeded to get AGGRESSIVE! not only is the food not good, but they are MEAN.

Melissa G.

Yelp
Living in South Austin for more than 10+ years my go-to for fast service and delicious Chinese food is First Wok. They are incredibly reliable, easy to order, and always timely on deliveries and pickup. During the pandemic First Wok was one of the fewest restaurants who adjusted really well to the modifications of ensuring all of their patrons were safe, felt safe, and had high quality food. They will text or call you when your order is ready (at your request) and will come out to your car and hand you your order directly to you through your window. First Wok gets really busy on weekend nights but never does the quality of food or service is compromised. Delivery is definitely an option and if you have one of their paper menus you will find a coupon for free chicken wings with your order of $20+ which is real easy to get to this as there are so many items you are going to want. I love their orange chicken as well as all of their appetizers on their menu. Lunch specials are fantastic and large large portions all around!

Ricardo Z.

Yelp
best chicken lo mein i've had in a very long time, egg rolls where delicious.. was attended by a beautiful young lady. Dine in was closed and so was the restrooms if not i would have given it a 5/5

Nikki P.

Yelp
My first time trying this place. My husband said it was the best and he was right!! My sweet and sour pork delivered big portions and lasted enough for left overs the next day. I think this is my new go-to for take out!

Atusonje D.

Yelp
delectable food and phenomenal portions at a competitive price. i hope they're around forever because they are serving lovely food to-go and doling out great service as well

Girlplay M.

Yelp
0 ambiance, take out only this place used to be great, the sesame chicken I got was soggy and gross. not fresh at all. I gave it to the homeless people.

Willy W.

Yelp
Quick service, excellent food of good quality, competitive prices, and accurate order placing. Their Kung Pao, Gen. Tso, and combination fried rice are all fantastic. I love their egg rolls and hot & sour soup. I would sometimes just get their Chinese fried chicken wings, an egg roll, and a hot & sour for lunch as a meal.

Suzanne P.

Yelp
Orange chicken, kung pow shrimp and chicken fried rice = $52. Enough food for 8 meals. Orange beef was the bomb! Unbelievable large pieces of steak cooked perfectly with orange sauce. Huge serving of chicken fried rice and shrimp king pow. Huge portions. Well worth the price. Wish there was one in Dallas.

Alex B.

Yelp
It's been a very long time since I've had good Chinese food. I think sesame chicken is a good staple dish to tell if a restaurant is good. I was debating on sesame or general tso's. I ended up choosing general tso's and I don't regret it. It's sweet like sesame chicken, but has some spice to it. This place is so good. I've tried a few places in the south Austin area, and have been frequenting Sichuan river, but this beats them hands down. This is only one dish, and I want to try more, but I have not had chicken this crunchy and tasty in many years. I just had left overs and it was as crunchy as it was when I got it earlier for lunch. Also, it's sooooo affordable. It's like 9 dollars for a lunch special with huge portions and their dinner specials seem to be around 13. I think Sichuan river has better egg rolls and maybe better hot and sour soup, but it's pretty close. I think this is my go-to chinese spot from now on.

Johnny G.

Yelp
No debate what so ever- this was the best Chinese house fried rice I have ever had! It was salty, bursting with umami, filled with meat and a portion for a small football team. If you are in Austin this should be your number 1 Chinese takeout!

Stanley S.

Yelp
Their foods is the best and loves their crabragoon and dinner section. Worth of price and excellent flavor!!

Blaine A.

Yelp
I've ordered from here a few times. They give you a ton of food (awesome!) with great prices (even better!) but yesterday I ordered orange chicken and fried rice, lo mein and crab rangoons. A few hours after eating the orange chicken (which was so bland to begin with), my boyfriend and I got violently ill. I called today to ask for a refund (even offering to bring back the lo mein and crab rangoons) and was told to come back with proof from a doctor. Picture for proof of all the uneaten food Yikes! A simple refund would've completely changed my mind but now you've lost a customer for life. Poor form, First Wok

Dwan A.

Yelp
I had a taste for perfect sweet and sour chicken with the bell peppers and onions and First Wok got it RIGHT!!!!! Delicious! The rice was perfect, the chicken was super crispy, well battered and succulent! Thank you First Wok for making my lunch dreams come true! Great price. Egg roll was even very tasty!

Kristina R.

Yelp
OMG! Really the best Chinese in Austin. We ordered the shrimp appetizer, jalapeño pork, and chicken with snow pea pods and had enough for 3 full meals. The service was also great, the handled the Christmas Day rush like pros. They deserve more than 5 stars!

Kate W.

Yelp
So far it's a great Chinese place that serves large portions and feels as close to NY style Chinese food as I've seen.

Mark S.

Yelp
Decent neighborhood Chinese restaurant. They do take out or delivery only. They had a full dining area but after the pandemic I guess they figured they could survive without dine-in service. Pretty basic dishes you'd find any at any Chinese restaurant. My call-in orders are always ready and correct.

Joy J.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered the General Tso's and Sesame Chicken. A couple hours later we both had the nastiest bout of food poisoning/stomach virus. 48 hours later we are still recovering. Also they up charge you $7 for "fried rice", which is soy sauce and white rice. On the plus side, the portions are huge.

Brenda G.

Yelp
My fiancé and I have been looking for a solid Chinese take-out spot, and we've definitely hit the jackpot. I called on a Friday around 6pm to order a chicken lo mein and egg rolls. They order was ready in 10 minutes, the single serving was enough for both of us and the total was as cheap as Austin gets. The neighborhood isn't the most upscale (there were multiple police officers in the parking lot when I arrived), and the interior is def a hole in the wall but again, takeout is the way to go. I also heard a worker tell a customer that they serve more food on takeout orders than dine in.
