"This is and remains an institution – something of a home from home for Hamburg's fish lovers, young and old! A constant stream of international customers comes and goes from lunchtime to evening. In an elegant setting boasting traditional Hanseatic decor and a view of the harbour, quality fish from the fish market is served at the height of freshness. Classic dishes include turbot or lobster in different variations, but the menu also includes Asian and Mediterranean-influenced options." - Michelin Inspector

The food, the wine and the service is all impeccable. We love Hamburg in general, been here several times. But you can’t miss this gem. The waiting staff is very talented in my opinion. We didn’t have to think ourselves for even a moment. Thank you!

We had a wonderful time at Fischereihafen Restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We tried the famous fish soup, and it was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was cozy and elegant, with a great view and a relaxing vibe. Definitely a place to come back to when in Hamburg!

Google
Beautiful classic fish restaurant in Hamburg - can really feel the history of the place. Fish and seafood dishes are excellent, all are very rich and buttery. Recommend the mixed starter, with 5 separate small items for variety. Service was excellent and decor very cool

This was my favourite restaurant in Northern Germany. High quality food, great service and the ambiance proper old school - I love it! The Scholle is so good! Must visit when back in HH!

Google
One of Hamburgs top restaurants- a lot of attention to detail and the service is impeccable. The food is good to excellent, my tuna tatar appetizer was superb, the bouillabaisse was ok, lobster bisque very good, the sole was good, could have had more refined flavours. The Rotre Grütze was excellent.

My favourite restaurant in Hamburg. Fine dining at its best. An amazing venue. Beautiful views overlooking the harbour. Best food. Fresh ingredients. Professional waiters. Booking is essential.

Google
One of the best fish restaurants I have ever been. Fairly inexpensive for the quality of food they offer. Professional and polite service. Unparalleled view in the river and the port

Google
A staple in Hamburg. It is a seafood restaurant with limited non seafood options. That being said. The sushi starters were amazing. The service was top notch. The atmosphere was very lively. The place has a lot of charm.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance. Danke Tom for your recommendations and excellent service. Both Husband and I had the Pike-Perch Filet dish and lobster soup. Nice & Hot. Consistency, not thick like bisque; more thin like sopita with lobster chunks. Omgoodness the Pike-Perch filet was outstanding!

Yelp
The place is an local old fashioned seafood restaurant that has been running for decades, and It lived up to expectations. The starter we had mixed beets and local fish together, topped with over-easy egg, with a side of pickled herring. It's something I've never had before and it was wonderful. The steamed turbo fish (a North Sea fish) main course may be a bit bland for some people but I do not like over seasoning fish particularly if they're fresh, and with the mustard quark and butter to go with it, it's perfect balance for my opinion. My companion had fried turbo fish and it's also some very well. Coming from expensive East Coast of America, this place is expensive but not beyond my comfort zone lol This place is right by the cruise/ferry port at St. Pauli area. It has a nice view too.

Yelp
What's good: 1) nice view. 2) great fish, good quality and taste 3) good service! What we ordered: 1) Räucheraalfilet with Kräuterrührei (signature dish) 20€ or 10€ for one small piece. Was it worth it: ABSOLUTELY NOT! It was good don't get me wrong but it was not anything near great that would justify the high price 2) Scholle without bacon and with spinach and mashed potatoes instead 22.50€ - it was a great Choice to substitute. The spinach was phenomenal and the portions were big. The Scholle was a really good Deal. Big fresh piece for 22.50€ was great. They offered us to switch the bacon with shrimps which wouldve been +16€ which we declined. We'd definitely order that again with the spinach and smashed potato. 3) Nordsee Steinbutt Filet with Krustentieren for 37€. Very expensive for two small lives of fish. What makes it so expensive are the few small pieces of shrimps in lobster sauce which was great but for 38€ I'd rather order the Scholle. What we didn't like: 1) a bottle of water for 8€ is a rip off. 2) the signature appetizer Räucheraal and the Steinbutt was not worth the price - some things are overpriced for sure. Would we come again. Given the price - only for special Occasions and only for the Scholle which I think you can get elsewhere cheaper in Hamburg.

Yelp
Loved it - really classy place ! Great photos of celebrities and warm decorations. We shared a Fischereihafen teller, a small Steinbutt (a turbot) and a whole dourade - and a crème brûlée, house Pinot Grigio is excellent and good value also ! Highly recommend and on a sunny day, stroll after along the water and stop by St Pauli Strand !

Yelp
Very helpful staff, especially after an error due to my very poor German. Great, fresh seafood, and all the locals know it. Please understand that this restaurant is at the end of a row of a dozen seafood restaurants on the single street of the old Altonaer Fischmarkt - which is still in partial operation. Of course, if you don't like seafood, the 75+ item menu has a special section: "Für unsere Nicht-Fischesser." It has only two items. Sorry, vegetarian / vegans / and "Non-fish-eaters." Those two items are veal Schnitzel and veal chops. 2021 08 26. M0. G&M 15.

Yelp
During a visit to Hamburg we decided to go to this place on a Friday evening without having a reservation. This place is always busy, so what we did is usually not recommended lol - but the staff was very helpful and forthcoming and organized a dinner place inside the bar area. Even though this is one of the top to go places for fish in Hamburg, the prices are still reasonable. I always order the same thing, which is highly recommended, but obviously I can't provide a list of dishes for recommendation. "Labskaus" - a typical Northern German dish - or "Smoked Eel" would be my favorite starter. The whole "Scholle" would be my recommended main - you need to have some general understanding about the bone structure of this fish (be careful about the small bones on the outside), once you have finished the meat on one side, you have to flip the fish and continue on the other side.

Yelp
4.5 stars out of +200 reviews give you an idea how good this place is: it is absolutely legendary! By far the best seafood restaurant in town, run by a hanseatic family for the Lord knows how many decades. A little photo wall reveals also of the VIPs who've been dining at the Fischereihafen Restaurant. The late Muhammad Ali, Prince Charles, Gorbatschow, Rod Stewart, ... the list seems sheer endless. The food is as excellent as the service and the view on the impressive Hamburg harbour. I highly recommend the house's classics such as the Dover sole as a main and the typically Hamburg desert Rote Grütze (various berries with groat with heavenly vanilla sauce). If you can, have a Helbing Schnaps to top it all off and you'll have a very memorable dining experience. You cannot go wrong with the Fischereihafen Restaurant -- a timeless classic.

Yelp
What a wonderful anniversary dinner for our friends. Waitstaff was exceptional. Food was delicious. We lived the white asparagus soup, it's the season and it is so awesome.

Yelp
Went for lunch on a weekday and it was so so so good. Esp this part of town is where reside all good seafood restaurants but I'm glad I decided on this one. Food: lunch special should cost three times more than what it actually says on the menu since the ingredients and the fish are fresh. I had a whole baked dorado with potatoes and olives and other veggies (only 15 euros) My party had fish cutlet and some other white fish fillet all of them were delicious. For the app, we ordered the butterfish carpaccio, mussels and salmon crostini and each one was better than next. Dessert was also fab if you are a chocolate lover! the Belgium chocolate dish is not too big but all the amazingness in it. Most people I saw would get a cheese plate but since I ain't about cheese post hm meal I can't tell ya! Service: top top top notch. Everyone from the hostess, the one who took our order and the men who brought the food out were all impeccable in terms of looks and language. Ambiance: def more of a traditional place than a hip modern place. Everyone is well dressed and everyone is generally older but really who cares how old everyone is when they look that classy! The place is also well kept, great view right on the water, cool oyster bar and most all it exudes history and heritage since it is a still a family run place. If you don't go here while you are in hamburg you are missing out!

Yelp
This was the venue for a special celebration lunch were the needs of a 90 year old had to be combined with those of much younger people. All of the fish dishes were prepared with great professionalism and could not be faulted. Surprisingly good value. Starter, main, desert, separatist, water and wine costing approximately €50! For a meal of this quality, I call that astonishing!

Yelp
Delicious! The food and the service were fantastic. Being the clown that I am I rode the scooter up the stairs to our fancy dinner. Anything to mess with my mother-in-law . Spicy tuna tartare was yummy, but not spicy by my standards. The shrimp was perfectly done, tender with a flavorful batter however there could have been more veggies with the glass noodles.

Yelp
Fischereihafen Restaurant is one of the few classic Hamburg restaurants, and led the way in developing this entire formerly seedy harbor district towards its upmarket lively vibes today. It's a very popular place, and most guests do certainly not appear to be dedicated foodies, but that doesn't seem to distract this ambitious kitchen from cooking seriously tasty dishes with a strong focus on fish, seafood and white wines. Expect an interesting, tasty twist even on low-key dishes such as Labskaus, even more so on their creative dishes, and expect very attentive, always friendly, helpful - and actually good fun service. Do try to secure their summer 'gourmet menu' when booking, it includes all the beverages and is a seriously good value and experience. The wine menu is also competent, and quite fairly priced. Sidenote - we had a few issues with food allergens in our party, where the kitchen did not seem to understand some of their own ingredients and we had to be on the watch throughout the menu and had to return a few items. I would thus *not* recommend this busy restaurant if you have to be careful about any of your foods...

Yelp
Ended up here on a business dinner. Very busy on a Thursday night (normal for most nights from what I hear), but we were seated immediately with our reservations. Let's talk atmosphere - it is nice, it can be elegant, but it is also comfortable. That is rare to find the nice mix of elegant and comfortable. Fischereihafen nails it. Let's talk view - it's good. Not quite great, because there is a slight bit of distance and some off-to-the-side buildings that impact your direct view of the river. However, the view is very good. Let's talk food and drink. My main dish was Turbot with mashed potato. The turbot was extremely fresh tasting, light, moist. It was just the correct amount of food that it fills you up, and you know you are paying the (slightly high) prices for the quality and the view, which is fine by me. My colleagues had starters and dessert and enjoyed it all; I did not partake in either. Drink wise, they have a nice wine collection. We got a great bottle of Riesling that was far from "too sweet" like many Riesling's can be. Let's talk service - a slight disappointment. It was friendly, but soooooo slow. Ridiculously slow. We almost missed our ferry because of how slow they were. We just never saw our waiter, and when we did, we couldn't get his attention.

Yelp
I went to Fischereihafen on Wednesday night, 29 November 2012. I'll start with the environment. The restaurant has a very strong sea/sailing theme which is to be expected as they are on the harbor and they are a seafood restaurant. It was not overdone but reduced the classiness a little. The waiters are dressed in white with black bow-ties and the waitresses in white and black. When I was seated, everything looked nice although I did notice that I was the only (at least in the room I was) below 70. On to the food. I ordered the fried (actually pan seared) scallops. They were the best scallops I've ever had anywhere. It was in a slightly spicy sauce and served with presumably shrimp whiskers for a garnish. I ordered the fried (also pan seared) North Sea turbot. It was served with a quite foamy "pommery mustard sauce" and "native potatoes". It was also served with some mushrooms that were quite powerful and left a lingering taste. The dish was well balanced except for perhaps the mushrooms (I love mushrooms but this was a bit much). This turbot was perfectly cooked, tender, and delicious. The service was excellent although for a European restaurant the appetizer came out blazingly fast and the fish was followed fairly quickly after. I think a little more spacing would have been appropriate for both dishes. Service was prompt and I was wished a good meal by many of the passerby wait(ers/tresses). I skipped desert this time although there were some tempting items on the menu. I give the restaurant a solid 4 stars for the food, perhaps -0.5 for the ambiance and another -0.5 for the food delivery speed.

Yelp
Hamburg is packed with good fish restaurantsobvioulsy. But the Fischereihafen is something special. I've invited my best friend for lunch and she was completely amazed. The service, the menue, the atmosphere, the excellent fish, etc. Of course I had booked a table. This is highly recommendedespecially in the evenings but also during lunch time. We had a beautiful separé table and the service was excellent. I asked for an English menue. This was no problem at all, yet they didn't have the lunch menue translated. So I enjoyed not having to translate for a change and let the waiter do the job. Bless him. We had so much fun trying to find all the vocab words for the different kinds of fish and he done quite well. The food was incredible and the wine recommendation superb. Fish at its best! I def recommend a glass of Prosecco in advance. Enjoy!

Yelp
Wow what a great place and great food, if you are visiting Hamburg, this is the place to go. The fish dishes are extraordinary and you can even order meat in this fish restaurant if you really need to . The location of the restaurant, on the border of the Elbe river and the very very nice staff of the restaurant will overwhelm you. I will certainly go back to this place!!
