Fischer's at Baslow Hall

"At the centre of impressive formal grounds sits this fine Edwardian manor house with charming bedrooms and a classic country house feel. Two dining rooms with an elegant, contemporary style are overseen by a formal service team; sit at the ‘Kitchen Tasting Bench’ to really be part of the action. Menus offer original modern dishes with Mediterranean influences." - Michelin Inspector

What an amazing place and the food is full of various flavours, from the fresh bread to the courses. I won't take any stars off because service and the setting is immaculate but the smoked roe and saffron rice spoiled the cod for me, did not seem to go. However the garden herbs and oil used in the cuisine is truly unique and exceptional, well worth the price. I like how the tables are spaced out where it feels intimate but not too close to others. I don't have alcohol and pork and they were very adaptable and considerate. Only wish I had asked to take away some of the coriander from garden.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful, the atmosphere is so relaxed and peaceful. The hall is a gem of a example of a country gentlemans residence tastful, elegant and so well maintained. Our room was a garden room which was bright and cheerful the bathroom was simple but well thought out. The gardens are wonderful, complete with a functioning kitchen garden. The food is delicious so many well defined flavours thoughtfully put together and perfectly cooked. Breakfast was to the same standard. The staff however take the hotel to an even higher level. Thoughtful, cheerful, professional while being friendly is an art and they've mastered the it. It was our 40th wedding anniversary and they even gave us a card sighned by the staff. There are many 4 star hotels out there but this one is rather special.

We booked Fischer's for lunch to celebrate my sister's birthday. We have stayed and eaten here on many occasions, and were not disappointed on Sunday. The staff are all extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The surroundings are beautiful. We arrived early for drinks on the terrace, and then enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch in the lovely restaurant. Afterward we had a walk around the gardens, which was delightful. We all enjoyed the experience and had a wonderful afternoon. I can feel a mini-break coming on for the near future! Hope to see you again soon. Thank you to all the staff. xx

We were so looking forward to our first visit to Fischers having heard so much about it. |We went for Sunday lunch and have to say the service was excellent. Unfortunately the food didn’t match the service. Sadly Fischers seems to be trading on its previous Michelin starred reputation.|Our main courses were good and a generous portion once the various vegetables were added, well cooked and presented.|The salmon starter was overall too sweet and all one texture.|A second course of jersey royals and asparagus promised much but failed to deliver. |We are used to fine dining prices but one small sliced jersey royal and half a very small asparagus spear with a tablespoon of seaweed veloute plus a sprinkling of pine nuts was ridiculously priced at £18. Three bites and it was gone, Indeed it was more expensive than the other two courses on offer which contained either meat or fish. |Puddings were tiny.|I will happily pay for outstanding food but this wasn’t. Shades of Emporer’s new clothes I’m sad to say. There’s nothing worse than feeling you’ve been taken for a fool. |I doubt very much that we will visit again despite the staggeringly beautiful surroundings.

We had an unforgettable dining experience at Fischer’s Baslow Hall to celebrate a birthday, and everything—from the service to the food—was exceptional. The team went above and beyond to make the occasion special, with the waitstaff offering warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful service that added a personal touch to the celebration. The food was absolutely incredible—each course beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, clearly crafted with skill and care. Every dish told its own story, and the attention to seasonal ingredients and balance made the meal feel both luxurious and grounded in nature. The setting itself, elegant and tranquil, complemented the whole experience perfectly. It’s clear why Fischer’s holds its Michelin Plate status—it’s a place where fine dining meets heartfelt hospitality. We’ll absolutely be returning and recommending it to anyone looking for a truly memorable culinary experience.

We ate in the restaurant, enjoying the 6 course menu. The restaurant is setup such that even when full each table still feels private. Service was unobtrusive but warm and professional. Food was excellent- fresh ingredients, good use of taste, colour and texture. A great meal, if slightly on the expensive side.

I booked lunch at Fischer’s to celebrate my surprise proposal to my partner which I decided to do just before lunch nearby at Bamford Edge. Fischer’s were incredibly helpful and made the day extra special with little added touches. When we arrived, they were waiting for us with two glasses of champagne, then when we got to the table, the waiter gave us a Baslow Hall postcard which had been signed by the staff to commemorate the day. The food and the service were both exceptional and we had a superb lunch to celebrate our engagement which was perfect. Finally, they gave us a complimentary slice of carrot cake to finish the meal off - this was also very tasty! Thank you to all of the team at Fischer’s who went above and beyond to make this special day even more memorable. We will be back! Would highly recommend!

We stayed for 2 nights in a garden room. We had booked the dinner package, so the taster menu the first night followed by the 3 course the following night. I can honestly say that this is the most wonderful hotel we have stayed in, and we travel a lot. Firstly the service. Impeccable, friendly, relaxed, professional, and attentive, a mixture that can be hard to achieve. It is so evident that they enjoy their working environment, and really care about the customers' experience. The food was incredible. We have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants, and the food here is easily Michelin star quality. The taster menu was sublime, so much so we upgraded to have it again the second night. The ambience of the restaurant is intimate and somewhat homely. The room we stayed in was also lovely. Whilst not in the house, you have a level of privacy which is enhanced by a lovely garden seating area outside. Sitting reading a book whilst watching the abundant butterflies amongst the wild flowers is enchanting. High quality bed linen and pillows (always important), and a spacious modern bathroom. They are lovely rooms. The decor of this hotel is also a sight to behold. Bold and lustrous wallpapers which somehow fit with the age of the property. The gardens are beautiful, and rather than having an overly manicured feel, they embrace wildflowers, and various areas are a delight to explore. The gardeners are lovely to talk to, and are clearly skilled at their craft. |It is not a cheap hotel, nor should it be, and we felt that it was worth every penny. Normally there is something we could criticise, and our experience of the hospitality industry at the high end over the last couple of years has not been good, and seems to have deteriorated a lot, but not here. We can't wait to return , and will. Value for money? Well if you want excellent service, amazing food, a homely and unpretentious environment, stay here. Am already looking for dates to return over Christmas!

Yelp
Fischers is theatrical Fine Dining in a very special location. This is not a venue for the everyday meal, this is for special occasions where making a WOW impression is required. The food is, obviously, of the highest quality. Excellent ingredients, clean and fresh flavours served with flair & imagination. I'm almost tempted to say that the restaurant is almost made for superlatives - but that would take away from what this place delivers. We went for the Taste Of Britain taster menu, my wife also had the accompanying wines which, judging from the little slurps I had, certainly adds yet another dimension to the food and I'd recommend paying the extra for it. The full menu would require far too much detail, although I will submit a photo - my highlights were The Ravioli of Yukon Gold Potatoes, quail's egg, broad beans & peas White Peak Lamb, lovage & goats curd emulsion (the scallop was a very close second though) Chocolate Tree Trunk, lime sorbet, mint & dehydrated chocolate Also, I have to give a special mention to the cheese trolley - so often restaurants go for wow cheeses and forget the overall combination. This is a trap that Fischers have avoided presenting a well ranged selection that offers plenty of differing choices which still compliment each other. Excellently served by a knowledgable man who took obvious pride in knowing what he presented. It pays attention to every detail. From the initial welcome, the presentation of every dish & glass, even the coffee & petits-fours. The service easily equals that found in the most exclusive dining locations London has to offer. Although far from cheap, you won't feel cheated in any way.
