"At the centre of impressive formal grounds sits this fine Edwardian manor house with charming bedrooms and a classic country house feel, which is now run by the second generation of the Fischer family. Diners are spread across two elegant rooms overseen by a formal service team, with the ‘Kitchen Bench’ experience available for those who really like to be part of the action. Local is key on the menu of classically based dishes, with Chatsworth Estate venison a must-order if you're here in game season." - Michelin Inspector

We had a family festive lunch at Fischer's, Baslow Hall in mid December. Whilst we initially booked for 9 family members, this was unfortunately gradually dwindled down to 6 people due to various people having to pull out for different reasons. Fischers were however very understanding and updated the booking each time with no issues. When we arrived in the day we were fortunate enough to have been allocated the "wine room", which is a small private room seating up to about 9 people. We found the service to be a very pleasant mix of formal and yet friendly at the same time, epitomised I think by the Australian waitress from Byron Bay. Everyone was addressed as Sir and Madam for example, but we shared fun chat and stories etc during the lunch. Food itself was absolutely first class. Not one person found anything to complain about from any of the dishes we enjoyed (we had 3 courses). Highlights included the mushroom "croissant" starter which was truly excellent, and the beef rib main course. All in all an excellent experience and I suspect we will be back when next passing through. (We had all travelled around 2 and a half hours to 'meet in the middle' given some family in Yorkshire and others in Hertfordshire ). Many thanks to all of you for a great afternoon

I had one of the best stays I’ve ever had at Fischer Baslow Hall. Everything just felt warm and welcoming from the start. The staff are absolutely lovely and clearly passionate about what they do. The “Kitchen Bench” experience was such a highlight. I had just come from dining in Paris and at a Michelin restaurant the night before, and this still stood out as something truly special. It’s immersive, fun to watch, and definitely worth it. The way the chefs talked through what they were making made me appreciate each dish, and getting to see their perspective added so much to the experience. They were also genuinely great company, which made the whole thing even more enjoyable. I also really appreciated how close the property is to Chatsworth House. Even though this was just a one-night stop as I transitioned from England to Scotland, it turned out to be the perfect respite. Calm, restorative, and memorable in all the best ways.

We're biased as we've been coming here for 15 years. It has always been consistent in quality of food and service and, if anything the food has improved over the last couple of years. When we came first it had a Michelin star, but it's easily worth 2 Michelin stars. We have stayed and the hotel experience matches the dining and the building and garden provide a beautiful setting.

Highly recommend this hotel, very nice! Warm welcome was received. The garden is beautiful and you can walk around to enjoy the nature’s beauty. I have to mention the breakfast was amazing! Especially the berry smoothie, bread and jam! The hotel can even help book restaurant nearby and cover the travel expenses. The service is indeed very good.

I booked a solo dining experience on the kitchen bench at the end of August. This was my first foray into fine dining and I was not disappointed. From the moment I was greeted at the door, I was made to feel incredibly welcome. The taster menu and whole kitchen bench experience was just wonderful. It was more relaxed than I was expecting which suited me perfectly! The food was exceptional - I was presented with a wide range of dishes which gave me the opportunity to try things that I hadn't before and I enjoyed every moment. Whilst the food itself was wonderful, it was the restaurant and kitchen staff that really took my visit to another level. Everyone was very warm and friendly, not to mention attentive. I was looked after incredibly well, especially by John's team in the kitchen. Thank you for such a fantastic experience and I definitely plan to return.

Wow what a wonderful hotel!! We had a 2nts stay at Fischer's. Everything about our stay was 5* from our arrival welcome to our departure. Our room Number 4 Garden Room was absolutely amazing so spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was superb. Our dinner in the restaurant absolutely faultless. What makes this hotel stand out are all the staff. They are so friendly, helpful and totally professional. Thank you Fischer's for providing us with an amazing stay. We cannot wait to return!!

We were at this restaurant a month ago. The place is very nice and welcoming, and the waiters are friendly. However, the food definitely leaves a lot to be desired for the price. Not to mention that they charge us £6 per bottle for tap water, even though they would take it away and put in a new one if it wasn't finished. I'm sorry, but I don't think we'll be back.

Yelp
Fischers is theatrical Fine Dining in a very special location. This is not a venue for the everyday meal, this is for special occasions where making a WOW impression is required. The food is, obviously, of the highest quality. Excellent ingredients, clean and fresh flavours served with flair & imagination. I'm almost tempted to say that the restaurant is almost made for superlatives - but that would take away from what this place delivers. We went for the Taste Of Britain taster menu, my wife also had the accompanying wines which, judging from the little slurps I had, certainly adds yet another dimension to the food and I'd recommend paying the extra for it. The full menu would require far too much detail, although I will submit a photo - my highlights were The Ravioli of Yukon Gold Potatoes, quail's egg, broad beans & peas White Peak Lamb, lovage & goats curd emulsion (the scallop was a very close second though) Chocolate Tree Trunk, lime sorbet, mint & dehydrated chocolate Also, I have to give a special mention to the cheese trolley - so often restaurants go for wow cheeses and forget the overall combination. This is a trap that Fischers have avoided presenting a well ranged selection that offers plenty of differing choices which still compliment each other. Excellently served by a knowledgable man who took obvious pride in knowing what he presented. It pays attention to every detail. From the initial welcome, the presentation of every dish & glass, even the coffee & petits-fours. The service easily equals that found in the most exclusive dining locations London has to offer. Although far from cheap, you won't feel cheated in any way.
