At Fish 101, a charming beachside eatery, a husband-and-wife chef duo serves up mouthwatering, sustainably-sourced seafood with a touch of laid-back flair.
"This homegrown fish restaurant has two locations in Leucadia and Cardiff, close to prime beach locales for surfers, divers, and fisherfolk. The brand has achieved enough of a cult following to support a growing merchandise line of clothing and trucker hats with its famed fish logo. The classic poke bowl and Baja fish tacos are popular among the regulars. A recent addition that’s been a hit is the grilled fish sandwich with mahi-mahi, salmon, or yellowtail." - Helen I. Hwang
"This homegrown fish restaurant has two locations in Encinitas and Leucadia, close to prime beach locales for surfers, divers, and fisherfolk. The brand has achieved enough of a cult following to support a growing merchandise line of clothing and trucker hats with its famed fish logo. "Seafood spot Fish 101, which debuted in 2011 on Highway 101 in the Leucadia area, has expanded its footprint in North County. Although the eatery originally intended to open its next location in Solana Beach, the eatery has just launched a new coastal location in the community of Cardiff, where it replaces local Italian cafe Pappalecco. Open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., this Fish 101 outpost boasts an ocean view from its dining room. Chef and co-founder John Park tells Eater that they are continuing their efforts to support local fishermen and farms in Cardiff. The counter service-style menu ranges from West Coast oysters to fish and shrimp tacos and burritos, sandwiches, fish and chips, and grilled seafood plates. With its ties to local fishing and surfing culture, the eatery wants to continue expanding on the 101 into more neighborhoods along the coast." - Candice Woo
"Encinitas fish joint Fish 101 serves many of the best versions of various dishes in several categories. Known best for their fish taco, their poke is well worth a try, as well according to Neens Camilo of Ono Yum and the I Love Poke Festival." - Jackie Bryant
