I was looking for a place to get some highly rated seafood, and came across Fish & Whistle. This is a bustling, husband and wife owned place.
Jason is very invested in his baby, as you can tell by how he interacts with his customers, and makes sure everything in the kitchen is up to his standards. His wife, Kate was not in when we visited, but we were told she makes all the soft serve ice cream, the champagne parfait, and any of the sweets they might have at the time.
The buns for sandwiches are all homemade as well.
I went with two other people, and we all decided to go with the most popular menu item, the fish and chips. They have three sizes, petite, half, and full. The half was perfect for me and the full was big enough to split between two people. The malt vinegar fries are delicious, and the batter on the fish is so perfectly done and crispy. Oh my goodness...
They also serve a vinegar based cole slaw you can get on the side. This was such the perfect complement to the fish. The flavor is fantastic, and you can tell a lot of love is put into it, as well. So light and delicious.
I'm not a huge tartar sauce fan, in general, but I wanted to just keep eating theirs. I didn't ask but I'm pretty sure it's all made from scratch, as well.
Please do yourself a favor and support a fantastic place. They have also been nominated for a James Beard award. Delicious food and the price is reasonable.
