New San Diego Restaurants to Try in September | Eater San Diego

"From the owners of the three-decades-old Gami Sushi, I encountered an elevated sushi spot whose experienced head chef is an alum of La Mesa's Banbu Sushi; the menu includes sashimi, nigiri, hand rolls and a wide array of specialty rolls, plus poke bowls, salads, and hot plates such as chicken katsu, teriyaki steak, and mixed tempura, with live music offered every Saturday." - Candice Woo

Excellent and fresh sushi served attractively by very friendly staff. Had one unfortunate accident where the waitress dropped a plate and soy sauce splashed on my brand new sneakers. Fortunately, I had just sprayed sealant on them, so not a disaster. The weather was perfect, so not sure why they didn’t have their garage door wall open.

One random evening I was craving sushi so badly that I just clicked the first place on DoorDash and ordered a rainbow roll and a salmon avocado roll. I didn’t have high expectations at all — I just really felt like sushi. When the food arrived, I was honestly surprised – everything was packed so neatly, and the sushi tasted so fresh and delicious that I actually checked the restaurant name to remember it. A few days later, I happened to be driving nearby and thought, “Let me just grab takeout from that place again.” I walked in and did a double take – it wasn’t just a random sushi spot, it was beautiful inside. Cozy, stylish interior, warm lighting… the kind of place where you want to sit and stay, not just grab and go. Right then I decided: next time I’m coming back with friends. Cocktails are great, the atmosphere is awesome, and the sushi chef is super friendly and made us feel really comfortable since we were seated right by the sushi bar. Highly recommend trying the Torrey Pines roll too!

Where can I begin? Have you ever walked into a place and just felt like you were in heaven? The attention to detail as you walk into the restaurant and look around, every detail seems to have been given great thought. There was a place for women to store their bags without putting them on the floor. The food was absolutely breathtaking. From the sashimi that melts in your mouth, the appetizers that start the meal just right, the rolls you can’t find anywhere else to your classic favorites, the drinks that are exceptional, to the desserts that you just don’t want to stop at one, this place will not disappoint! I don’t think I can ever go to another sushi restaurant again after this meal! If you ever want to see heaven on earth in a restaurant, be sure to book a reservation so you do not miss out!!!

Being sick, I was craving a comforting bowl of good ramen, so I ordered takeout. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed. My tonkotsu came with no mushrooms, no greens, just completely off. I also ordered a California roll, which didn’t taste fresh at all. Every item in this order was a letdown. And honestly, this was the worst ramen I’ve ever had. I believed in good reviews of this place. So sad.

Vibe here is excellent. Service is excellent. Maybe we just came early when they first opened tonight? Both our rolls were mediocre. My husband had surf n turf roll I had the lemon fresh crab roll Color, taste and texture was off on both. We did not finish them. We eat sushi often and have eaten here before and everything was great. Not so much this time.

Google
Stopped in for dinner and ended up ordering way more sushi than I planned because everything looked so good. My favorite was the sashimi as it was fresh, with just enough heat. I shared a video on my Instagram @SanDiegoFoodieFan if you want to see what the whole spread looked like.

We are always in the area and saw this new place, walked in checked it out and made reservations for the day after Valentine's day. My girlfriend lived in Japan for a few years so we are very picky when it comes to sushi. The ambiance is fantastic, lighting etc... We ordered several different rolls and we always order salmon nigiri. The salmon sushi was so fresh and absolutely delicious, perfect amount of fat and temperature. We also ordered chu toro which was some of the best we ever tried. The rolls were all outstanding along with the presentation. Service was first rate. We ordered tempura ice cream for dessert and let me tell you it was AMAZING. Fish Boon might be my go to sushi restaurant. Kudos to all at Fish Boon.

Google
Fish Boon has a lovely, chic atmosphere that makes for a great dining experience. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall positive vibe. We ordered the tuna tostadas, a poke bowl, and a sushi roll (can’t remember which one!), and every dish was beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavor. The quality of the ingredients really stood out. Whether you’re in the mood for a light bite or a full meal, this spot is definitely worth a visit

Yelp
This little gem in Carlsbad is awesome! The fish quality is excellent, whether it's nigiri-style sushi or cooked dishes. I had the nigiri sushi, and my companion enjoyed the baked salmon - everything was delicious! The service was exceptional. Victoria H. was our server, and she was friendly, patient, knowledgeable about the menu, and on point! The ambience was cool, clean, and modern. They also have outdoor seating, but we chose to sit inside. Kudos to Victoria for making our first visit extraordinary!

Yelp
My coworkers and I had a great night at Fish Boon. We rolled deep with about 20 people and sat in the outdoor patio. I got a peak into the restaurant when I needed to use the bathroom and noted the decor and ambiance. Overall a nice restaurant. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. We also kept the kitchen busy with order after order, but the food kept flowing. They were on top of it. I couldn't keep track of the things we ordered. There were several rolls, tempura, hamachi kama, sashimi, desserts, etc. I even ordered a couple of nigiri including saba and aji for myself. Everything tasted great, and the fish was super fresh and high quality.

Yelp
The food here was really good! The service was excellent as well. The fish seemed fresh and the vibe of the restaurant was great. The Great - The Sushi and Presentation (art) The Good - Service was friendly and speedy The Bad - NA The Ugly - NA We enjoyed this spot after yoga. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu!

Yelp
Fish Boon is a great place for fresh and yummy sushi. We came in on a weekday later in the day where there wasn't many parties inside. The interior is very nice and loved the decorations. The food and drinks were great but the service was super slow. We were tucked in a corner so our server probably did not see us but we made eye contact many times and he never made the effort to come and check in. We asked for the check and it took 10 minutes until I decided to stand up and pay for it at the front desk. They also charged us 10 dollars for a bottle of water which they never mentioned. The karage was delicious and crispy. The batter was light and chicken juicy. They had many options for rolls as well. The ones we chose had great quality in the fish and loved the spin they put on them. I would probably come back only for takeout. The service was unbearably slow and it felt like they were purposely ignoring us only. There were other parties being taken care of multiple times while we were just waiting.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday lunch. They had my name and happy birthday sign on our table when we arrived. The ladies who served us were very welcoming, pleasant, helpful and attentive. The chefs behind the bar were incredible food artists. The decorations were very modern Japanese. You know it's a good Japanese restaurant when you see Japanese clientele. I loved that! I had a refreshing pink cocktail with cranberry juice in it and my husband got a Mimosa with a frozen rose shaped orange juice. His drink had a side of champagne to add when he needs more. Both drinks were delicious and works of art. We ordered... Toro Tartare Albacore carpaccio Fantasy roll Crispy rice with Spicy Tuna Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. Not only were they visually appealing, they were ALL little bites of Heaven. I'm so glad that this restaurant is close to home. I will definitely be back regularly. For food this perfect, it wasn't overpriced like other famous restaurants which serve you less food at a higher price. The restrooms were clean. They do have seating outside as well. So when the weather cools down, we'll most likely be back with our dog after his walk at the park down the street. If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, you must try this restaurant. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Yellow tail basic roll as appetizer, gami roll (amazing!) and the spicy ramen made for a perfect meal to share for 2.

Yelp
This is my new fave sushi place! I've been to Japan and it's hard to find a good sushi place. This one hit the spot! The torro just melted in my mouth and the uni was buttery and fresh! Price was definitely worth it! The indoor was beautiful and service was fast! I would definitely visit again!

Todd S.

Yelp
The food the service and the vibe all work! Edward is the owner and he is always on site. He shows great respect and hospitality to everyone. Kellen was our server and does an excellent Job and is a joy to be aroun

Yelp
We love this local spot. We have been ordering to go for months since they opened and we finally dined in last week. Very cute spot for a date or just family dinner. They have a small patio so if your furry friend wants to tag along they can! Their fish is always fresh and delicious. We always love their yellowtail nigiri and rolls. We splurged and tried the otoro and wagyu nigiri. Both were so tender and amazing. The real crab rolls are also SO GOOD. I think it was the misaki roll that was our favorite. The staff were also so kind and it was a great time sitting at the bar with the chefs. This is definitely our go to sushi spot

Yelp
My husband and I had dinner here on a Saturday evening. We didn't have reservations, but we came at a good time to be able to sit at the counter. The seats were plush like little love seats. I was given a small seat for my backpack purse. (I've only had this happen to me in Vegas once.) We ordered miso soup, the Gami, Fantasy, and Torrey Pines, but got the Del Mar instead of the Torrey Pines. (We realized it when we looked at the menu to order a second one and I had photos I took of our order to compare). They corrected the error. Ironically, the Del Mar was a delicious error and was our favorite. Service was excellent and food came quickly (which is a good thing since the place got packed rather quickly so they got to turn tables fast). Ambiance was nice. The noise was average, but you're able to take to the person you came with and they can hear you. There's also outdoor seating. A party of 2 to 4 seems to be the best for the seating. Parking was busy, but we managed to find parking by Sprouts/CVS which isn't far. Tip: make reservations if you can before going.

Yelp
First time coming here and we will be back! Outstanding service! Quality food! Well designed and decorated. Server Jasmine made the visit! She was quick and responsive. Helpful with menus items and selections. We ended up going for some basic items so we could test the quality of the flavors we expected. (Next time i will try her recommendations) Ordered rainbow and eel roll shrimp tempura and 2 bowls of the classic ramen. I would not have changed a thing. Everything from the fish to even the tempura was fresh crisp and clean. The ramen was so flavorful from the soft boiled egg and pork belly! We both ended up adding some chili oil to bring in some spice but out of the park overall. Ment to post yesterday but got the news about what happened in Utah.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place since it opened and finally did for lunch! Our server was nice and so was the patio. Food came out fairly quickly and was good - nothing super special to write home about, but good. I got the lemon roll, which had tempura shrimp on the inside. Prices are typical of sushi these days in SD. Overall decent!

Yelp
Fish Boon is the Best sushi place. The fish is super fresh and delicious. Love the atmosphere too.

Yelp
We were seated promptly in the outdoor patio and had a sweet welcome note at our table upon arrival. The owner was very welcoming. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays. Our server recommended a nice sake. They give you wine glasses instead of shot glasses for the sake. The owner believes good quality sake should be sipped and not a shooter. The sashimi was fresh. We had the wagyu, uni, ramen, and a variety of sushi. All were tasty. They had a live musician singing some old classics. Would definitely come back next time we're in North County.
google avatar

Yelp
Fish Boon is the fairest sushi place in all the land. The freshness cannot be beat. I love lemon and they hook it up. Love the patio seating and the inside is cute as well. Prices are slightly higher than the cheap-o sushi places but the food is worth it. Love the Yuzu highball drink - so delish. Just a delicious standout place with good service. Our new go to even though it's a 20 minute drive for us in Bressi Ranch.

Yelp
Well, ordered for takeout the Sushi Combo A which is 5 pieces of various typical nigiri and a basic roll of my choice so I chose the spicy scallop roll. What I got though was not a spicy scallop roll at all. It was a spicy fake crab roll with some small chunks of scallop in there. Hardly what I would call a spicy scallop roll. The fish on the nigiri frankly all tasted the same. I seriously couldn't tell the difference in flavor from one to the next. It came with a small salad which had lettuce that was brown on the edges. Oh, and the fish was room temperature, not chilled. Pretty disappointing overall. Won't be back.

Yelp
Randomly stumbled upon this place for sashimi/sushi. Their fish quality is great and they offer lots of varieties which I like. There was decent crowd on a friday lunch and I can see why, the interior is beautiful and the plating is great and service was quick and fast. Definitely will be wanting to come here again for my sushi/sashimi cravings when in the area. Wish it was closer else I'd come more frequently. Ordered the 10pc sushi combo and tried their king salmon roll. Both were great. King salmon roll was slightly bit heavy on the sesame oil but it was still good, i'd probably try a different roll next time. I do like that they serve real crab options but given the premium this place charges, hoping they would serve real wasabi but looks like it's just the horseradish paste that most places offer.
google avatar

Yelp
Fish Boon has been on my list for so long and I've finally got to visit! We came on a Wednesday night for my sister's birthday and there was about a 30 minute wait. Once we were seated our server shared that all their sushi is very fresh and an example was that they were serving a fish that they receive only three hours ago. I ordered the miso soup to start which was really good. For sushi rolls, we shared the Baja crispy roll and the lemon roll. They were both delicious but the lemon roll was my favorite. It's made with snow crab and was delicious!
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
The restaurant's decor and overall ambiance are commendable. Despite its compact size, it provides both indoor, sushi bar, and patio seating options. Our server was welcoming, attentive, and very friendly. He was new and didn't know much about the menu, but was very eager to know our thoughts. We opted for the veggie tempura, Hawaiian roll, and Del Mar roll. While the veggie tempura was satisfactory, both rolls fell short in terms of freshness and overall flavor. As this is a new place, I'd like to give them another shot and return in a few months to assess whether their fish offerings have improved.
google avatar

Derek I.

Yelp
I was shocked to find quality sushi in Carlsbad. The cuts are thick and very fresh. My chirashi was fantastic - large fresh cuts of fish, tamago (unclear if made of bought), and well seasoned rice. The miso soup wasn't good, but the salad had a nice refreshing dressing. Vegetable tempura - nice and crispy, light batter. The cook was great and sauce was just a tad sweet. Some veggies could be cut thinner to avoid being oily. Touchdown roll - my wife's order and she dug it. Inside decor, flatware and vibes are cool. They have cocktails but it's soju based. Kinda thrown off by bulgogi on the menu, but overall impressed.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. Staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Chic, modern ambience and comfy seating. We ordered the garlic edamame, seaweed and cucumber salad, otoro nigiri, wagyu nigiri, and two real crab rolls. Quality of fish was top tier, tasting fresh and tender. The rolls were extremely balanced and real crab doesn't miss. My only complaint was our meal was a bit unbalanced because everything except for the seaweed salad was quite acidic. As a result I did have to take some Pepcid afterwards but hopefully this can be avoided if you order different things. Overall a pleasant experience. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Came here for lunch. Very cute spot. We ordered 3 different types of nigiri's and 2 specialty rolls. The nigiri's were very good, however, my coworker bit into a fish bone. That was our first time experiencing this at any sushi place. The rolls were ok. Each piece kept falling apart. I think it needed to be rolled tighter. Service was good. It did take awhile for the rolls to come out. By the time they came out we were a little full from the nigiri's. I don't think I would come back here. Nothing stood out.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved this North County spot. It's tucked along a strip of restaurants across from grocery store parking lot which makes it unassuming but the food, atmosphere, and service were excellent. My friend and I each ordered a roll and split one as well. My pick was the Baja Crispy which I would likely order every time I come, all my favorite things wrapped up in one bundle. We also shared the Lemon roll which was fresh and flavorful. The past few sushi spots I've been to have had lackluster rice and lack of identifiable flavors in the rolls (all of it has tasted kind of muddled together), so was happy for the turnaround here. I think it's due to the quality of ingredients used which seems to be premium. Our server was the sweetest and so patient as we were indecisive about what we wanted to order and had her come back a couple of times. Also, the ambiance feels cozy with soft lighting and pretty decor on the table - plus, they had my name on a heart for my reservation which I thought was the cutest - the little things, you know. Speaking of, I do recommend a reservation because even on a Wednesday night, it quickly filled up. There is a small patio for outdoor seating as well as several tables inside and seats at the sushi bar. All in all, it was well worth the drive north and will be on my mind next time I'm craving sushi.

Yelp
Fish Boon has a clean stylish interior and offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Although it's a small restaurant it's well designed and givea off a nice vibe. There are plenty of parking spaces which makes it visiting very convenient. The service was excellent staff, friendly, attentive and welcoming. It's a fairly new spot and you can tell they're putting in effort on hospitality side. Unfortunately, the food didn't live of the expectation. The sushi and rolls lacked freshness and the overall taste was disappointing so the sushi came out warm with both fish and rice, which is unusual and off putting. The sashimi had no texture and was mushy rather than firm, and clean. Presentation was also lacking and did not reflect the level of care you'd expect from a sushi chef. I rate the food quality and taste around 2.5/5.In summary, While ambience and service were great, the food was not off to standard. If the quality of the fish and sushi presentation improves it has potential but for now I wouldn't return for the sushi Good: - nice interior - plenty of parking spaces - good services Bad: - quality of sushi (warm sushi rice +warm fish) - overall the food fell below expectation, especially given the restaurant's upscale appearance

Yelp
Great quality sushi; very fresh. friendly service. We look forward to returning. Live music was playing the night we were there a few months ago. While fun, a little too loud for us.
google avatar

Jamie Z.

Yelp
Unfortunately, this was not a great experience. The service was fantastic and ambiance beautiful. Those are my positives. We had a party of five and though the sushi rolls were beautiful, they were just not up to par. Rainbow rolls, hot lips rolls, miso soup were just mediocre. The soup was luke warm and my california roll was fishy tasting. The best part was the mixed tempura and my yellowtail belly along were the best things we tried. My wagyu sashimi was cooked way too much ruining the seared flavor and texture of the meat. For five people including 6 drinks the bill was almost $400. I rarely post negative but think they can do better in the beautiful setting of Carlsbad.

Yelp
Fish Boon provides quality sushi in the comfort of Southern California and Carlsbad. The interior and exterior are aesthetically modern and sheek, with an oriental flare. The server provided a walk through of the menu with recommendations, and so our party ordered several items they suggested for us: Drinks: 5/5 Perfect Pear: The cocktail was indeed perfect for me; a nice light almost Calpico-like drink with a pear flavor. It didn't even taste like alcohol but I noticed it started to kick in mid-dinner, a dangerous drink for those who like fruity and sweet. Food: 4/5 Chirashi: The sashimi were all very delicious and premium cuts of fish, the chuutoro especially being the highlight of this dish. 5/5 Padre Roll: One of the recommended rolls from our server, I loved the presentation and the combination of ingredients. It was my favorite item ordered tonight. 3.5/5 Yellowtail Mania: The roll had ample fish serving, although so did the Padre roll which I thought was better in every way. Also was not spicy at all. Overall: 3.5 rounded to 4 The food quality was great but since this is an elevated dining experience, the portion sizes for the rolls were not filling and felt lacking for $18+. The chirashi bowls were enough to satisfy my friends though. The dishes themselves were delightful for the taste buds and the eye, but you might have to order multiple items! I do think I tend to be critical with Japanese sushi due to my experience in Japan. Hopefully with more exposure trying SoCal's sushi restaurants, I aim to assess ratings based on local competitors.

Yelp
Had a great time at Fish Boon! We went here for a date night and will definitely be back--here's why: Customer Service: 5/5 The host and our waiter provided prompt and accommodating service. I appreciated the thoughtful addition of purse holders for customers. Food: 4/5 The Lemon Sushi Roll and Grilled Yellowtail Hamachi Kama was a delight! They offer both fresh and imitation crab in their rolls, another perk. However, if you're considering the Steak Hibachi, I'd recommend passing on it. My husband ordered the steak, and we both found it a bit bland and slightly tough. If you're craving fish, though, this is the place to be! Beverages: 5/5 I had a hot matcha tea, which was delicious, and my husband enjoyed his Kirin beer as well. Parking: 5/5 There's plenty of parking available in the plaza. Dog-Friendly Patio: Yes We brought our furbaby, and she got to enjoy the night out with us. The patio is thoughtfully designed, and the lit patio lights as the night sky darkened added warmth and a lovely touch to the evening.

Yelp
Very high quality sushi and beautifully prepared and plated. I just love coming here. They're truly artists behind the sushi bar. The service is great as well. Very attentive, friendly, and able to make recommendations. I have not tried it yet but saw someone order the ramen and it looked really good so will definitely be sure to try it next time.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this new spot since it opened and I have a friend who loves sushi so I rounded her up and we met at the restaurant. It's in the spot that formally housed ebolution brewing. When we got there, there was only about three tables taken. We looked at the menu and decided what we wanted, and our server took our order quickly, brought us waters, soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. My friend and I chatted for a while before they brought our plates. And unfortunately, they brought our main dishes, but did not bring our included miso or salad so we had to ask for them. The fish was probably the freshest I've had in north county. It melted with each bite. And the pieces were a good size. The salad and miso were typical offerings and didn't stand out. The prices are a bit high but I'm happy to pay more when it's this good. When it came time for the check we had to flag someone down to get it. I think I would probably give it 5 stars for the sushi alone but the service needs a little help. When we left it was almost full, so maybe more staff? Definitely will be back!!

Lou H.

Yelp
Gave this place another shot a couple of days ago. This place is just... off. The owner or manager whatever he is, always looks stressed, and it sets the tone, everyone else seems on edge too. They're constantly understaffed, like they're trying to save money. The food isn't authentic, and the Korean dishes are a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation. To top it off, the space is cramped, tables are jammed so close together that servers and guests can barely move around. Also, there's no way other 4-5 star ratings are genuine. Relatives/friends or paid?? It's just impossible.

Yelp
My mom and I came here on their Grand Opening day and got there around 6pm. There was no wait time and we were seated right away. They hired a couple of jazz musicians for their opening day, which made the ambience feel a bit more elevated and it was really nice to hear some live music. Our food came to us about 10 minutes after we ordered, which is the fastest I've ever received my food after ordering at a sushi restaurant. We didn't even get the chance to finish our appetizer before our entrees started coming out. Very impressed by how quick everything was prepared! What we ordered: Fresh wasabi (kizami) Toro Tartare - 10/10 (added lemon juice and fresh wasabi to this made it taste EVEN better) Sushi Combo B with a tuna roll - 9/10 (octopus nigiri was a bit chewy for my preference) Small Sashimi Combo - 10/10 The quality of the sushi overall was a 9.5/10! Once we were done eating, the restaurant filled up and they were pretty busy. Because of this, it was a little difficult to flag someone down for the bill, but someone eventually came over and handed it to us. She didn't ask if we wanted anything else...like dessert. Luckily we didn't. But regardless, it would've been nice if someone asked how everything was and if there was anything else we wanted before handing us the bill. Before leaving, my mom asked the owner (at least we think he was the owner) if they'd be doing omakase as an option and he said that would be the plan in the future, but they want to get a feel for what people want.

Yelp
We came for lunch and everything was great. The restaurant is beautifully designed. The sake flight was a great way to try some sake I normally wouldn't have ordered and our server was able to explain the differences. The sushi was fresh and well presented. The added little details made it feel like a special experience.

Yelp
What an awesome Sushi experience this was, so nice having top tier sushi right in Bressi Ranch !!!
google avatar

Yelp
Probably the best sushi place I can think of in North county. The nigiri is abundant and flavorful. I especially like the variations of Toro and salmon. The rolls are inventive, fresh, and delicious. The staff is amazing and the decor is tasteful and not tacky.

Yelp
All was great. Fish was some of the best I've had. Pocket book hit a little hard but had an amazing meal.

Yelp
My mom and I were visiting for a day trip to the Carlsbad flower fields and we were craving sushi, so we came here. The set up is very nice both inside and outside! The service was phenomenal and our waitress was very nice. We got a few sushi rolls and they were yummy!

Yelp
We loved this place. Came with the family and was happily greeted as we walked in. The restaurant is aesthetically beautiful. Food arrived quickly soon after we placed our orders. Our dishes were delicious and perfect. All well seasoned, fresh, delicate and light. Happy to have Fish Boon part of North County.

Brad G.

Yelp
Service was a little slow but sushi was good. Ordered the yellowtail delight and was impressed with the roll.

Yelp
Best sushi in north county. Their dish is such high quality and you can tell the owner is very passionate about his restaurant! We will definitely be coming back

Yelp
Amazing experience, such a cute little spot I love the outdoor patio seating and that they had live music. The fish was so fresh and loved the real crab meat in the rolls. The sake flight was nice being able to try out different flavors my favor was the strawberry and peach sake they were on the sweeter side. The customer service was also really good our server Oscar was really informative and friendly during our entire dining service. Can't wait to go back and try more things!
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Padres roll was my favorite! A roll with all fish and no rice, it was not only delicious but a presentation was so pretty. The wait staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. And the restaurant itself beautiful, my fav being the unique chandelier in the center. Enjoy!

Yelp
This restaurant is beautiful inside. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. I ordered the Hibachi Chicken which came out steaming on a skillet with a side of rice. My daughter enjoyed a variety of sushi and surf and turf rolls. I reserve a star because I asked if the Hibachi chicken had mushrooms and was told it did, but that they could make it without. I then said, yes, I would like the Hibachi chicken without mushrooms and it came with lots of mushrooms. The server took it back and they expedited a remake which was delicious.

Yelp
We finally made it ti Fish Boon, we had the Rainbow Roll, Hawaiian Roll, Touchdown and Ocean Roll. Let me tell you, all of them were delicious. The freshness of the ahi, salmon just melt in your mouth! Friendly service :) Can't wait to come back and try the other great dishes on the menu.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Fish boon, which was for a girlfriend Christmas dinner. We were seated right away with our reservation and a cute little hand written note was at our table which we thought was a nice personal touch. Heads up the bar only makes what is on their drink menu (I wanted just a regular margarita which they told me could not be made as they only do what's on their drink menu; which isn't a problem but thought it was good to include for future patrons to know). I really loved my sushi roll that had real crab and topped with different tobiko varieties. The eel was also thoroughly enjoyed by my friend. I wasn't crazy for the tuna tostada despite it being beautiful, I expected more flavor and unctuous texture for almost $20 for 3 pieces. Overall everyone was very happy with what they ordered. I'd say this wouldn't be a regular location I'd go to, but more for special occasions (for the price point specifically).

Yelp
Stopped in here recently for lunch and thought it was great! Owned by the same owner as Love Boat in San Marcos (but not the Oceanside location). Fresh crab in rolls, not just imitation is a plus. Upscale but small interior seating. Plush, low bar seats are appreciated by this short patron! Nice patio though it's just looking at the parking lot in Bressi Ranch. Pics next time, and there will definitely be a next time. Saw the complaints about waitstaff. We thought they were great and personable. No issues there for me and actually would compliment them on the servers!

Yelp
Clean restaurant with a beautiful ambiance. Bathrooms looked and smelled luxurious. Server had a beautiful smile and was very attentive and sweet. Food was good. All in all a great experience.

Yelp
Really enjoy this place! Great ambiance-very tastefully decorated and the vibe in there is always upbeat. The hosts and servers are cheerful, helpful and efficient. You do not wait or want for anything. Love the food. Great variety but we focus on sushi, sashimi and had several of the real crab rolls. The fish quality is excellent and portion size is very good. Good alcohol selections but we just get sake or beer. The only place in our area that has a similar feel is Ken Sushi Workshop in Carmel valley. The only thing I could kind of say is a negative is that when you sit at the sushi bar, the chefs are not particularly friendly and don't engage with you which I usually love at sushi bars. And it's a lovely sleek design but doesn't allow you to see them making their creations which I love to watch. So now we just basically get a table inside. Outside can be cold if it's not warm. One time we went they even had live music. Don't particularly like the piped in music but that's small as everything else there is great!

Yelp
Made a family reservation for my wife's birthday for patio seating. Drove all the way to the restaurant to find that the patio is closed and being painted. If we had known in advance we could have left our dog at home, but we had to make last-minute dining arrangements, which was a huge let down for a birthday celebration. UPDATE: The general manager called back and left a message with an apology--sounded very sincere and the restaurant team apparently did not know about the arrangement. I will update to 4 stars, with hopes we can dine at some future date and the food and service meets those expectations. Thanks for making the effort to reach out.
