I’ll start by saying this restaurant is fine. It’s okay. But as someone who knows a little more about finer dining (being married to a chef) I left disappointed. The vibe inside is pretty cool but I hate the long booth/chair seating, especially when on a date. There’s no way to be close and intimate with your partner and you constantly feel like you’re a part of the tables next to you. The food itself was fine but presentation was lacking. No serving ware with any of our dishes (we got the whipped ricotta dip and mussels - neither came with a spoon for serving). Our silverware was totally mismatched. I had a knife, salad fork and serving spoon where my husband had a normal silverware set. The knife to cut the focaccia was only serrated about 1/3 down the blade making it nearly impossible to cut the bread. And when we got our pasta mine was covered in so much Parmesan and parsley that was all I tasted. Again, the food? Fine. The atmosphere? Okay. But def a miss for us.

Beautiful venue, the tomato dip for the bread was divine! Mozzarella dip was a bit mild for my taste, but it’s airy and light if you’re into that. I had the squid ink crab pasta with bonito flakes which was such a good combo of flavours. Pasta tasted fresh and everything was perfect 😊

My family and I came for a recent weekend dinner -- we had reservations and were seated immediately, and the restaurant was full (all the way until 9:30 at least), so definitely plan ahead with a res. Apparently they're known for the focaccia and dips -- we tried the tomato whipped butter -- and both were delicious. The focaccia was light and fluffy, not too greasy with the lovely fragrant olive oil aroma. The tomato butter was really good (and added a nice contrast to the focaccia) but it did get a bit heavy (understandably as eating a whole thing of butter at once can be a lot ...) We ordered a bunch of plates to share -- some of my favourites: - Bone marrow risotto: soooo savoury and rich flavour. The risotto itself seemed fine -- not too soggy or oily -- but the rich umami of the bone marrow stood out here. Definitely would recommend this dish. -  Bucatini all'amatriciana: this was so delicious! The sauce was extremely flavourful and the pasta was cooked to a perfect chewy texture. I thought the portion size did feel a bit small (esp the proportion of pasta to sauce). - Crispy skin duck. The duck was so tender and juicy, and the crispy skin was cooked amazingly. The polenta was prepared very nicely -- a nice lighter complement to the duck.  I would say a bit pricey for the portion size though. -- (desserts) We had the blood orange panna cotta and pavlova. For the panna cotta, I really liked the caramel flavour, which paired nicely with the panna cotta itself, without being too sweet. The pavlova was interesting -- I thought it turned out a little too crispy/hard on the sides (hard to break off with our spoons) but the mix of lemon and strawberry flavour was fantastic. Highlight was definitely the service though; our waiter Dominic was so friendly and helpful with recommendations and walking us through the menu. At the end of our meal, he was profusely apologetic about how long we had to wait for our food (which honestly wasn't even that long) and comped two of our desserts to make up for it. Overall it was such a lovely experience and I couldn't recommend coming here enough!

Making reservations before you go. The service here felt very authentic. Special thanks to our waiter, Fry, who thoughtfully explained the entire menu and offered helpful recommendations throughout our meal. As for the food, I would say it was average — simple and okay, but nothing that stood out. The focaccia bread served with olive oil, vinegar, and prosciutto was a highlight, with flavors that paired nicely. However, the filet was disappointing; the sauce was overly salty, and although we ordered it medium rare, it arrived closer to medium. The fries were standard and unremarkable. Perhaps I’ll give the pasta a try next time. The atmosphere leans more casual, making it a nice spot for hanging out, a low-key date, or a casual event. One note: the lighting isn’t ideal for photography, as you can probably tell from the pictures.

This place is absolutely incredible! From the cool modern atmosphere (and great music) to the impeccable food with flavor so amazing I’ve never tasted anything like it before. I highly recommend the spicy meatballs as an appetizer and the baby carrots as a side dish. It was so nice being able to view the chefs cooking in the open kitchen from the dining room. Dominic our server was 10/10 and certainly added to this wonderful experience. Can’t wait to return! :)

First visit to Fish nor Fowl - we got a last minute reservation; the menu has shareable dishes, as well as entrees. We 4 shared bread and a ricotta dip; I enjoyed the wedge salad, was unique (spicy!?) and delicious; we all had pasta’s for entrees, the bucatini was good! Our waitress Sarah was a knowledgeable delight, and happily put up with our shenanigans.

My wife and I came in from Montana to catch a Pirates game. We were referred to Fish nor Fowl by some locals and this place did not disappoint! Alex, the manager, left a lasting impression of kindness and hospitality. His recommendations of wine pairings and menu items were incredible. We would recommend their service and food to anyone who is in town for a few days or a long time local. Thanks again, we are excited for our next trip to Pittsburgh.

A nice little spot tucked into a quieter part of Pittsburgh. The restaurant is very well decorated and the atmosphere is very inviting. Although we weren’t in much of a rush, Our service was very slow. The meal itself was good but the dessert stole the show. Also, it is worth noting that There is plenty of variety on the menu for anyone’s preference

Yelp
My primary issue is that we ordered the special appetizer, after our other appetizer arrived (which was 30 minutes after we ordred) we were informed that they ran out of the special and were offered replacement on the house. I totally understand the a special runs out, I found it strange we were offered a comp. However, an hour later (1.5 hours after we ordered) I watch two plates of the appetizer we ordered go past our table. It struck me as deeply disrespectful that we weren't worthy of an appetizer we ordered. A grilled octopus isn't something that sits around for hours. I think we deserved to be served the food that we ordered. It says something about the management that the server took the blame for offering us a dish that wasn't available when it is clear to me that a manger made a decision to not serve use the octopus. At the very least the manger should have spoken to us and explained the situation and accepted responsibility for the decision. The server we had was very good, she explained the menu concept in detail (for example you have to order bread and dips separately) sold us on the special appetizer and answered our question about the main dishes that convinced us to order the arctic char, which was excellent. On the whole I enjoyed the food. The cocktails were good. But overall the service was slow. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived and we were offered a seat at the bar while we waited. It took a solid 15 minutes to get our cocktails at the bar, which I totally understand looking and the number of tickets the bar tenders were working on. I however do find it strange that no tables were ready since the bar is on the second floor overlooking the dinning room and we could see multiple 2 tops open in the dinning room that I could clearly see from the bar. There were two other couple at the bar also with reservation waiting to be seated and we were all seated at tables that were ready when we arrived. I ordered the crispy skin duck and sadly the skin was under rendered, the breast itself was still medium rare, but under rendering skin is a fundamental cooking error for duck and not something that can be easily corrected without overcooking the meat. It was troubling that the skin on our other main the arctic char was crispier than the crispy duck. The accompaniments were excellent. We were thinking Fish nor Foul would become our new date night restaurant, my partner wants to go again I'm not so sure.

Yelp
Back again and another 5-star experience! Of course we devoured the focaccia. But wow, that white bean dip, lights-out-delicious!!! The bean dip had great garlic and dill flavors. I mean any dip with garlic confit will be a home run! We also had taleggio and finocchiona, which is a wonderful pairing of meat and cheese. The cheese is creamy and goes perfectly with the meat! Nice service size as well. My arctic char piccata was phenomenal! The fish skin was crispy, while the sauce was loaded with flavor. Light yet so satisfying. Finally, we had a side of carrots. The feta was so tasty and paired with the harissa, made for a knockout combo. The harissa gave the perfect kiss of heat. Such a wonderful dining experiencing, which makes another return visit a must!

Yelp
First experience at Fish Nor Fowl and we had bar seats. It wasn't bad, but next time I probably would only book if there is a table available. Gave us some entertainment watching them prepare the food though! Our waitress was just fine, not super personable and I only say that because the people next to us had a different server and he seemed great!! Again ours didn't do anything wrong but felt like just another table to push through which isn't what we want to feel for a place like this! Food was delicious and we left feeling stuffed with leftovers to take back. Whipped ricotta is a must. I must say it was so hot in there that I got uncomfortable and wanted to leave. Asked my friends that had gone before if they had experienced this and they said the exact same. Usually not something I'd note but a reason for a 4 star review. Will definitely be back in the future :)

Yelp
This place always steps up. It may be the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. We started the duck confit and coppa. The confit is one of the better ones I've ever had. The coppa was quite tasty as well. For entree's I had the squid ink pasta which was just perfect. It was seasoned so well. The crab meat tasted about as fresh as you can expect for seafood in Pittsburgh. My wife had the lamb chops and they were so well prepared. The cocktails were quite well prepared as well.

Yelp
By far our favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. Fry was an incredible waiter and gave us amazing recommendations! We had the foccacia bread, the Calabrese pesto dip, the bucatini, the rigatoni, and the chicken parm. Ending the night with a tiramisu was perfect! You MUST come here! And the place was stunning! The interior decor was perfect and complimented everything!

Yelp
We went to dinner at Fish Nor Fowl earlier this week and we family styled everything which is the best way to experience Fish Nor Fowl! We started off the meal with the buckwheat focaccia and normally it feels wrong to pay for bread but this was worth it. We then moved onto some small and large plates and, of course, pasta! The bone marrow risotto and the rigatoni were both so flavorful and the creamy polenta that came with the crispy skin duck large plate was unreal. We had to finish the meal with some sweet treats and I loved the crunchy chocolate pearls on top of the tiramisu. The pavlova with the lemon curd and strawberry compote is the perfect summer dessert and one of the best desserts that I've had all year. The inside is spacious and bright with a large downstairs and a small upstairs with bars on both levels. Our server was really nice and attentive.

Yelp
there's nothing quite like a little ~much needed~ date night at the lovely Fish nor Fowl. This is a beautiful space, it could be described as a "modern Italian spot". The elevated chicken parm was one of the best dishes we've had in a while and the aged prosciutto and burrata was truly outstanding! we would go back and order both of these again. if you need a date night this weekend check out this spot with all the vibes!
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
Prosciutto & burrata - The portion of prosciutto was huge! What's not to like?! Caesar salad - I didn't really enjoy this because the anchovy flavor was extremely strong. I know that's what Caesar dressing is made of but this was too much for my liking. Nothing against the way they prepared it, just not my taste. It was large and definitely shareable for 2 people. Mushroom pappardelle - The noodles were fresh and delicious and it was packed with mushrooms. It comes in a butter "sauce" but I do wish it was maybe a cream-based sauce as I feel it lacked a little bit of flavor, in my opinion. The service was outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine and took the time to answer all of our questions. The GM stopped by a few times which is always appreciated too. I definitely will return but will probably stick to the whipped ricotta & focaccia bread, chicken Parmesan, and rigatoni.

Yelp
Service was excellent ! Loved the ambiance! We started with cocktails. I ordered the Black Manhattan and the wife ordered the dirty martini! Both were good but mine was a little too sweet, but that's probably on me forgetting something I didn't know! We ordered the calabrese pesto and the small plate special which was octopus over white beans! Both were excellent! My main course was the mushroom pappardelle and hers was the bone marrow risotto! We also ordered a side of Broccolini that was excellent! I loved my main but she was underwhelmed with hers! All in all a great meal and would definitely recommend coming back!

Yelp
One of my favorite dinner spots in Pittsburgh. Not an ideal location for parking, but my God the food blows me away! Their bread and whipped ricotta is a must. The entrees are perfect portions, which I appreciate. The chicken parm (which is bigger than my head) is so perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. We went for Valentine's Day and the service was great. The patio has a great atmosphere as well as the different spots to be seated indoors. Great spot!
google avatar

Yelp
My latest visit I sat at the bar for drinks and dessert! Another wonderful experience! The RD restaurant group has really committed to putting zero proof mocktails on their menu, one of which included a zero proof espresso martini. Doing dry January, I had to give this a try! It was honestly amazing, perfectly crafted. It's great to be able to feel like you're indulging in a nice cocktail, while it's non alcoholic. We also had the tiramisu which was to die for, and the chai mousse which is always solid!

Yelp
I honestly have never had a bad meal at fish nor fowl. I usually try to stay away from saying 'my favorite' but when it comes to their chicken parm - it is my favorite. The homemade pasta is a must have always. From the decor to the ambiance it's clean and sleek and everything you could want with an awesome open kitchen and bar you can see from the lower level. Service was on point and I appreciate the care they put into it all! 10/10

Yelp
It took 10-15 minutes before our server came over. When she did, we ordered drinks and a couple of appetizers. They have a section of dips, but you need to order bread, or it does not come with the dip. At least - that it what she told us when we asked. The dip and bread came out quickly, but the cheese did not come out for about 20 minutes. We tried flagging her down to order more drinks. When we finally did, my friend ordered a glass of wine. That took maybe 15 minutes to come out. Throughout all of this, we were still having a nice time. But then realized that we had been there for an 1 hour + 15 minutes and she had not told us the specials or asked us about ordering entrees. She popped by and said "Is there anything else that I can get you tonight?" So we asked for the check (which took another 10 minutes to get). My friend complained to the manager. He blamed the server. Nothing was done to correct the situation, so we left. And even though the food sounds good (their Instagram is killing it!) we will not go back.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place in Pittsburgh that nails atmosphere and exceptional food, Fish Nor Fowl on Penn Ave is where it's at. The vibe here is warm and sophisticated, perfect for date night, girls' night, or really any night you want something memorable. The staff are incredibly welcoming, and you can tell the chefs are passionate about each dish they send out. I was excited to return to Fish Nor Fowl after they reopened, and let me tell you, it's still as fantastic as ever. We kicked things off with the whipped ricotta. While the buckwheat focaccia is a $10 add-on, it's worth every penny--think fluffy, buttery perfection that pairs like a dream with the creamy ricotta. This isn't the place to pinch pennies; it's a place to indulge. Then, the chef surprised us (thank you so so so much!) with a sneak peek of a new pasta dish they're rolling out: Buttercup Squash Scarpinocc. Imagine creamy, sweet squash in pillowy pasta, balanced by a squash soubise, brown butter, hazelnut chili crisp, and sage. It's the ultimate fall comfort dish and honestly, one of the best pastas I've had in a while. And then came the showstopper: the chicken parm. This dish has a rep for being top-notch, and it lives up to every bit of the hype. Huge, perfectly breaded, and topped with a blanket of melted cheese, it's honestly heavenly. Jess got the bucatini to go so I didnt try that but it looked fab. We were brought little cookies to end the night and it was the cherry on top to a perfect and #GOUDapproved evening If you're a fan of inventive food and great vibes, Fish Nor Fowl should be on your list. I'm already dreaming of when I'll be back.

Yelp
Wow! Every time I got to Fish Nor Fowl I'm always blown again. We got a spread with so much food (had a whole dinner as leftovers for the next day lol). The whipped ricotta and buckwheat focaccia is always a must! The spring cocktails just launched so we got the AeroMexico, Clear as Day, Golden Hour and Fender's Riff. They were fresh and perfect for spring. Our service was phenomenal. They were very attentive of my tree nut allergy as well. Some of my other favorites were the Beef Tartare, bone marrow risotto and fusilli.

Yelp
Great find! OpenTable reservation find. Service was amazing - she was so lovely and knowledgeable about the menu. Menu is somewhat confusing with lots of options. We choose to split most everything - portions were plenty for 2-4 people easily for most dishes. The view into the kitchen created an nyc vibe and created a casual atmosphere. Ideally would have been great if chef or manager would have come out to greet table - kinda expected at restaurant like this maybe? Gluten free options available! Flavors were bold and different - for sure do the shrimp small dish and panna cotta dessert! Chicken parm was delicious and quite eye catching! Excellent choice if in the area! Would go back.

Yelp
Ambience in this place are great. Gives me NYC vibes without the fast pace. They play good music. Service is very high quality from when you enter the door until your leave Fav Italian in Pittsburgh. Best chicken parm (crispy). Side of pasta was solid can tell it's handmade there. Mussels very good and almost rival point Brugge but slightly different more red/pink sauce instead of white. Second favorite mussels in Pittsburgh. Spicy meatballs also good. Side pasta good.

Yelp
This spot is in the old salt of the earth location so I came in with nostalgia and high hopes pumping through my veins and was not at all disappointed! The staff was super helpful and able to steer us in the right direction when the wine lists did not match and some wines were not in stock (it was a Tuesday can't hold it against them for that). The place is very "vibe heavy" but the food still lived up to expectations! My table got the lamb rack, seafood pasta, Chilean sea bass, and the chicken parm (hands down winner). The lamb was cooked very well charred outside and juicy inside. The sea bass had a perfect crispy crust with the sauce underneath and unbelievably tender fish inside. The chicken parm however was darn near perfect. Super thin perfect edges on the crust and tender chicken with a very good red sauce to boot. The Caesar salad may be the best I've ever had though. Impeccably shaved Parmesan cheese with anchovies and a thin bread slice crouton. Honestly impressive I would get this every time. Sides were just ok, carrots were the best; sweet and well done. But the broccoli rabe was a little too smokey and lost a lot of its flavor to the char. I want to again say our server was amazing, cutting cake for the birthday, offering us wines when ours were sold out, and recommending perfect dishes. Overall a super positive experience and I will be back

Yelp
Delightful time! I had visited Fish Nor Fowl right when they reopened, but this was my first time back in a while. And the experience was even better! We were sat upstairs at a table slightly elevated, which felt very intimate in a positive way! The decor is very chic. We were greeted with waters and we ordered drinks-- I ordered a Mocktail, while my two friends ordered a cocktail and wine. All rave reviews on the drinks! We shared ricotta dip + bread, as well as the chicken Parmesan (which came in the shape of a heart for Galentine's Day!! And was plenty big enough for three to share). YUM! And we each got our own pasta and dessert, which also some to take home for our husbands. We were there a long time (2.5 hours) so it's a great place to catch up with friends or a romantic night out.

Yelp
We went here to celebrate my birthday and had a great experience. The food, service, and restaurant were top notch. We started off with the focaccia and tomato whipped butter - this is a must have! There was a little butter left and we even packed it up to take home because we couldn't stand to waste any. I also had a Caesar salad, which was one of if not the best Caesar salad I've ever had. The dressing was prefect, the lettuce was crisp, there was generous helping of cheese, and it came with homemade crostini as the croutons - amazing! For our entrees we had chicken parmesean and bucatini amatriciana. The chicken parm was delicious - hammered thin and crispy with a lot of cheese. The bucatini was good, but not a standout like the other dishes. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here for my birthday on a Wednesday night! There was no parking but we got lucky enough to find street parking right in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a black building with a reallyyyy small sign saying Fish nor Fowl so it was kind of hard to find. At the restaurant, it was pretty empty with very dim lighting and we got seated for our reservation immediately. The host and server were so kind and treated us very well! They offer to take your jacket too. We ordered the beef tartare per the server's recommendation which came on a bone with some bread and the whipped ricotta with some bread. They were both amazing appetizers and I was almost full before our main course came out. The spiced meatball wasn't super spicy and the chicken Parmesan was amazing! The chicken was cooked perfectly. We ordered the side pasta per server's recommendation and it was good but tasted like any other pasta. We got two cookies for my birthday which were sweet and delicious and made my birthday extra special. Our server boxed our leftovers for us as well. Will definitely be back:)

Yelp
The food was pretty good. The service was good. The wait for the food was really long- took a little over an hour for chicken parm. We went on a Tuesday so I'm really not sure what the hold up was. Our reservation was at 7:15. We got our facaccia bread at 7:40. We got our entrees at 8:45. I take photos of food for my instagram so all my pictures have a time stamp. That just seems really ridiculous for a wait time, luckily we weren't super starving. Over a 1 hour wait between courses shouldn't be the standard- especially not for "fine dining". We were the last people left sitting upstairs which felt awkward and like we were overstaying- when the case was our dinners were brought out late. I understand things happen, but that should be communicated better or handled better
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance and service were great for date night! Food was kind of underwhelming for how expensive it was. The beans that came with the duck confit were surprisingly incredible though and the whipped ricotta with the homemade & fresh/warm focaccia was delicious!

Yelp
This whole place is awesome. Great menu, ambiance, and service. Really loved the whole experience. The chicken parm is out of this world and definitely sufficient to share. My husband thought his duck was really great too, and the focaccia was a great way to start our meal. We had the whipped ricotta too and it was very good, but even the oil that comes with the bread would be enough.
google avatar

Corinne K.

Yelp
The food here is one of the best in the city. The whipped ricotta is to die for. The focaccia bread is delicious. Even the olive oil was so yummy. We got the mushroom pasta, duck confit, meatballs with sauce, and whipped ricotta with bread. The ambiance of the restaurant is like an oasis and the plant wall is so cool. The service is next level. I went to the restroom between courses and the server folded my napkin and put it in from of me again. They wiped the crumbs off the table between courses. We loved the open concept to the kitchen and being able to see in. I just love this place

Yelp
Our go to - we always enjoy the drinks/food/service/ambiance. Love that they have new items - our excellent server told us the lasagna was the chef's mother's recipe - huge portion and chef's kiss delish!

Yelp
~Atmosphere/ Service~ I have been wanting to try Fish nor Fowl for a long time- and I sadly will not return. My husband and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our two year wedding anniversary and requested a private dining experience after seeing the community table in some of the photos- to my surprise we were sat the at community table. I was under the impression that this would be a fine dining establishment but the servers were in dirty jeans and t-shirts. I will say, our server was very sweet and gave us complimentary champagne to celebrate (even had an N.A. option for me!) However; The atmosphere just felt off. ~Food~ We ordered the mussels and some of them tasted like they had gone bad so we didn't finish those, i ordered the amatriciana bucatini and the sauce was sour and unappetizing and the pasta was overcooked. My husband ordered the Steak Frites with truffle fries that apparently tasted delicious. He has been sick in the bathroom for two days since eating this meal, I'm not usually one to write reviews and sometimes you get a disappointing meal- but once my husband got ill after eating here I needed to write something. The experience felt off and we should've just trusted our gut and gone somewhere else. Pittsburgh has a plethora of amazing, high end food, you won't find it here.

Yelp
Recently ate here and unfortunately wasn't really impressed. I'd give this place 3.5 stars as it was mediocre. I'm surprised since this place was highly recommended to us and has great reviews. The positives: beautiful ambiance! It had a wonderful vibe and the first floor and upstairs were both styled nicely. We also really enjoyed our cocktails. As well, the service was friendly. The cons: the food was pretty bland and unremarkable. For the price I expected a lot better and was disappointed. It was edible but feels like it could've used a bit of salt to enhance the flavors. The best thing we ordered was the chicken parm but it definitely needed salt since it felt flat. The crunch was perfect on it though! We also ordered the short rib special and did not fall apart seems like it should've cooked longer. The flavor was on point otherwise. For pasta we ordered the mushroom pappardelle, mafaldine, and fusilli. All of them had a flat flavor profile and needed some salt or other brightness to perk it up. Neutral: The service the night we visited was pretty slow. This is not something that bothers me but noting anyway. Overall, wish the dishes weren't so bland and the pricing was too high for quality. Drinks were great. Every place has off nights so I'd be willing to try again but it's not top of mind.

Yelp
I wish I discovered this place sooner! I loved the ambiance, service, and food here. I went for my birthday and was so glad I did. There was a beautiful wall of greenery that we got to take pictures by as well. For appetizers, we got the rosemary focaccia bread which was SO GOOD. the burrata and tomato whipped butter were great with it. We also got prosciutto which gave a fun cheese and cured meats vibe while we drank our wine. We got the soave classico and lambrusco wines which were both really good. We also got the mafaldine pasta and the whole branzino to share. It was the perfect amount of food and they even brought out the branzino without the head and tail at my request. Since it was my birthday, they even gave me a free dessert which was delicious!

Yelp
Second time visiting FnF and it was such a triumph, they've really found their groove over the last few years since reopening! The space is still extremely chic and elegant with many modern elevated touches, but the menu has been more finely tuned and the service was excellent throughout the evening. On this Galentine's visit, I was able to finally try the famed chicken parm, and it lived up to the hype! It's a must-try, and a great option to share with your date or with a group as an addition to the meal. My friends and I each tried a pasta dish, as well as splitting the focaccia and ricotta starters. My fusilli dish was excellent, so unique and so cozy with its ingredients and its textures. The homemade pasta is notable and memorable. I also tried a martini and a negroni - both excellent and well-crafted! For dessert I enjoyed tiramisu, which was mostly taken home with my leftovers (I was so full), but made for a lovely re-visit a few nights later. I loved sitting on the 2nd level, it's really different in terms of ambiance compared to the main dining room, I felt like we could really talk and hear each other much better! That being said, I would love to return and sit at the bar for a beverage and some apps in the near future. Cheers to Fish Nor Fowl!

Yelp
Loved this place! Food was so delicious. Service was super fun and great. Ambiance was positively relaxing and energizing at the same time. I was originally looking at Fig and Ash but they did not have any available reservations until 830. Next time that may be okay. But I am sooo glad this place worked out instead. The food was so amazing, I would consider visiting Pittsburgh to just go eat there. Our server was honest and funny. Very refreshing to have such an entertaining person who helped us make great food choices. Their whipped ricotta with their fresh, baked there focaccia bread was surprisingly amazing. What a great start. Their mushroom pasta was a favorite among most and you can add us to that list as well. New to me veal was super fabulous--so tender, great flavor, and overall "wow!". The broccolini as good, but nothing super special about it. The eggplant was our least favorite (so much for trying something that was not mentioned by the server), so those leftovers were left behind. What a great birthday celebratory meal. One I know I will remember and will look forward to repeating it more regularly.

Yelp
The chicken parm alone at this place was worth 5 stars! It was pounded so thin and crispy was probably one of the best chicken Parms I've ever had. If you go here you must try it! My espresso martini was also very good as were most of the dishes we had. We ordered about half the menu: whipped ricotta, focaccia, artichoke, a special peach appetizer with local peaches, the bucatini, tagliatelle with mushrooms, chicken parm, fries and side of pasta. Standouts were whipped ricotta and as previously mentioned the chicken parm. The local peaches were also delicious. The decor in the restaurant was super cute! I want to go back and check out the outdoor section which looked adorable

Yelp
I came back here after I saw the menu updated, but felt the it wasn't as impressive as the first time. I think the steak tartare wasn't what I expected--too much cheese and not much tartare. I liked how they were creative and presented a classic dish in a new manner, but I felt it took away from what I was looking forward to in the dish (the tartare) and overpowered the flavor with other side ingredients. The pasta was mid, I thought the mushrooms were a bit slimy. The catch of the day was excellent, in fact one of the best fish dishes I've tried in Pittsburgh. Tender, juicy, with beautiful plating. However, I felt it was way too overpriced. I forget the exact price, but was around $60. Thus, this time around I felt Fish nor Fowl was a 3 or 4 star experience.

Yelp
Enjoyed FNF for the first time last night. Highly recommend dipping the buckwheat focaccia into the ricotta dip and olive oil... *chef's kiss*. I ordered the bucatini which was delicious and the chicken parm was one of the best I've ever had! The wait staff were very easy to get along with. Coat check is such a nice touch especially this time of year. Very chic inside. I plan to return for the antipasti bar in the near future!

Some of the best pasta Ive ever had! I always suggest this place. The restaurant itself is beautiful and so tastefully designed. They have whipped ricotta dip which was so much fun!

Yelp
Had a great experience celebrating my son's 24th birthday. I feel like the price for the meal and experience was on spot. We ordered the bread and whipped ricotta and bone marrow risotto as appetizers. Both were simple yet delicious. The bone marrow risotto was beyond delicious. I would order it every time! Gorman courses we ordered the duck, dry aged steak, and lamb. All were simple and elegant. Perfectly seasoned and balanced. Again, not any issues with any of the dishes. Our server gave the table a complimentary glass of wine after dinner for my son's birthday. A nice added touch. Great dinner!

Yelp
Seriously spectacular food! I was so excited to try fish nor fowl and was pleased when it lived up to the hype! The menu is diverse but specialized and I don't think you can go wrong with your meal choice. The whipped ricotta is a MUST. I was also a major fan of the meatballs, and they are huge. And a surprising fan of the mussels-that sauce just MADE IT. The atmosphere felt like NYC and I loved all the plants and the exposed balcony. Our server Sarah was awesome. A great place for a date or a GNO.

Yelp
Just okay. Not very impressed with the food. It seems like the previous menu had more variety. The new menu needs some changes. Some of the pasta's are bad or mediocre. Do not order the Mafaldine, I was not able to eat it. It smelled and tasted awful. The waitress was kind enough to notice and switched it without extra charge. Said this happened before and will have to talk to the chef. So I appreciate that. I ended yo getting another pasta which was 7/10. Their service is good but need to work on the menu. Ambiance is generally good, although it was a little loud upstairs. Desert was great! Everything else was good but nothing impressive I would say. Giving three stars total for the service, desert and presentation.

Yelp
Restaurant had a beautiful interior design and upstairs and downstairs. Food was fantastic- appetizers were shareable with a group of four and portions were generous!

Yelp
Incredible find in Pittsburgh with a New York feel. 5 stars for Ambiance. Our server, Sara, was spot on with recommendations and always had a smile. The General Manager, Alexander, was quite attentive with personality plus. Food was exceptional and kudos to the Chef. Can't forget a shout out to the Pastry Chef as dessert was outstanding. This will be our go to in the future. Diane A.

Yelp
I was so impressed with Fish Nor Fowl when I came here for dinner! We got to sit outside since it was a beautiful night. They have a cute patio area. The waitress was very nice and attentive. For a drink I tried the Fish Nor Fowl Martini. It was delicious, not sweet more sour which is what I was craving. We ordered the buckwheat focaccia and it was so good and also HUGE. We also ordered the burrata as an appetizer and that was also so tasty! After how good the appetizers were we were excited for our main dish. I ordered the rigatoni. It was also amazing! The noodles were clearly homemade which always makes them better in my opinion. The flavors in the pasta dish just blended so well together without overpowering each other. I will definitely be coming back here. They are a must try restaurant! I will say parking is a bit tricky; you will need to parallel park to be prepared.

Yelp
I went to dinner with friends and overall, I liked the place. In terms of hits and misses, there were far more hits. Hits... - Service. The service was good throughout. I started with a drink at the bar and then moved to the table. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. - The whipped ricotta and buckwheat focaccia (though also a miss). The bread was flavorful and warm. The ricotta lusciously rich. A shareable starter. - The mussels. These were perfectly done and delicious. The portion was good and I'd order them every time. - Caesar salad. This wasn't anything mind blowing, but a good rendition of a caesar, with an egg that could have been cooked a minute longer (the white was a little loose). - Artichoke. I loved this dish overall. The tahini sauce made it special. Misses... - The whipped ricotta and (NO) bread. The menu concept of the dips is ridiculous. They are top left on the menu in a standalone box. When you try to order one, you are warned that you also have to separately order the $10 bread, lest you want to just eat the dip with a spoon. These should be add-ons under the bread section, because who orders this without the bread. Or just price them for included bread so that your poor servers don't have to explain this over and over to perplexed guests. - The gnocchi. This dish was a soggy mess. I am all for light and pillowy, but these were waterlogged and simply disintegrated if you touched them. I'd still go back, because the experience and food as a whole was good, but I feel like I don't really ever to go a Deshantz venue without being a little puzzled by some concept thing.

Yelp
Hubby and I ate dinner outside on their charming side patio to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The complementary champagne was a nice touch, and I enjoyed my cocktail, but it would have been nicer not to have music blasting above our heads. It was 1990s alternative, so at least it was nostalgic, but the inside was ever louder. Because our waiter explained the menu to us as big on sharing I was surprised my $18 scallop appetizer wasn't larger. Hubby and I ended up splitting my salad and his pasta to make a full meal. Then we shared a delectable olive oil cake with blueberries. Because we ordered sparingly, there were no leftovers, and our tab was $80 + $20 tip or thereabouts. We had to park on the side streets behind the restaurant because they're paving their lot (which is smaller due to the construction of the patio). Didn't try the restrooms. Staff were nice.

Yelp
Loved the vibe at this place and the food was great! We ordered the chefs choice board and the whipped ricotta. However, we decided to split a bottle of wine, Pinot Grigio, which was priced $52 on the menu. Our awesome perfect waitress stated they had a different bottle that night which was no problem. BUT when she came out with a twist off we were a little curious for the price. After looking into it it's a $6 bottle of wine we were charged $63 for. More than we ordered. I have no problem paying for a bottle of wine that is a little over priced but this did seem ridiculous. Pretty unhappy about that as it did even have the same taste and experience of a gas station wine. On a lighter note, we were here to celebrate a birthday and our waitress Caitlin made sure to make it special, we love her! She was great!

Yelp
My partner and I went here to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful experience! We made reservations and were seated in our requested area, which was awesome! The upstairs has a more cozy feel with ambient lighting. The menu has a great selection of drinks, appetizers, pastas and large plates. We opted for the delicious focaccia with the whipped ricotta. These are sold separately, so it did come out to just short of $20 for bread and dip. As for our main portions, we ordered the mafaldine and the fusilli. The mafaldine was spectacular and had a great deal of flavor (though we did get any spiciness). However, the fusilli seemed to lack flavor in comparison and the ingredients did not mix well. For dessert we ordered the affogato and it was fantastic. A perfect mix of the strong espresso and the sweet ice cream! Overall, we would recommend this restaurant and will will definitely return and try some additional menu items.

Yelp
came here to celebrate valentine's day and I was slightly disappointed. Here's what I ordered: - Focaccia & whipped ricotta: This was pretty good. The bread had some crispy/hard edges but the inside was super fluffy, and it was delicious with the whipped ricotta. The whipped ricotta came with olive oil. I've never had this pairing before and thought that it was very unique. - spicy crab mafaldine: this was disappointing. It was very bland and had very little crab. I couldn't taste any spice, and the pasta also tasted a bit undercooked. - broccolini: The broccoli was cooked to a nice crunchy texture, and it was paired with a citrusy sauce that gave it a very refreshing taste - scampi shrimp: I liked the flavor of the prawns. The sauce was a little spicy and the prawn was quite tender. I enjoyed eating it with the toasted bread that it came with - tiramisu: This was way too sweet and had too much cream. I thought the powdered sugar on top gave it a weird taste too. I wish the coffee taste was stronger rather than just pure sugar Overall, the dining experience was okay. The service was great but the food is mediocre. I think I was especially disappointed by the pasta because that's what I came here for.

Yelp
An outstanding meal! The cocktails are well balanced and tasty. The Trust the Chef Charcuterie Board has a wonderful variety of meats and cheeses - a highlight of our visit. The seating areas (upstairs and downstairs) are comfortable and the staff is attentive.
