Thank you to the cashier with the hair hanging down for punching in my card such a sweet heart … and the extra sauce . . And chef kiss to the chef couldn’t see you but I heard you like just gimme 30 more seconds I like my Cajun grilled fish cooked all the way . Y’all thank you made my day currently watching bloodhounds enjoying this delicious meal keep up the great presentation .. idk what baldy was talking about who dine in LOl ❤️❤️❤️

I have been coming here for a while now, and sadly they don’t take phone orders, they said due to staff shortage. I came in and there was no customers in line , and still no phone orders were being taken. It seems when the owner is there things seem to run very smoothly. He is polite and actually knows my order by name, which is awesome when working in customer service! When he’s there it’s a 5 star review so for that reason I’m changing my review. Some workers need a bit more training, if working with people is not your thing, you should not be working at a restaurant! ( I updated my review)

The food quality from here has always been exceptional and well seasoned however the cleanliness and appearance of the front of house has degraded over the years and it seems no one cares to clean properly up front. This is concerning as a customer because if what we can see is this dirty I can only hope what we can't see in the back is clean. I am only disappointed because I've seen what Fishbone was when it opened and I would love to see it back that way with all the love and care this location deserves. Wet floor signs are caked in dirt, the trash bin is also filthy and the wall next to it. Table legs are caked in grime and all the corners have dirt and grime caked on from improper mopping/cleaning. There is dust and grease caked on the ceiling tiles and there is also grease buildup on the walls in the back where the Fishbone logo is. These issues are not from just a busy week and potentially being short staffed, that is months of neglect and lack of care for cleanliness.

Well I ordered it took some time. However my items weren't inside the bag. Didn't receive any utensils and half my order wasn't in the same bag had to come back to get my missing items. Decent place for a bite. Kinda expensive and when they're really busy things get mixed up.

Much love to this place first time walking in the crew was very busy but they held it down and made an amazing meal for me and the family would definitely recommend if I'm ever in the area best believe I'm coming back

Super crazy ..food is good but the phone was off on 3/6/25 starting at 11am..my friend ordered in person at 7:30pm...old worker told her they were not answering the phone today because they were short staff. Bad customer service but we'll seasoned food.

We dined in and the window sills weren't clean. By nature, I leaned on it and my elbow picked up some dirt. Overall experience: .9 Will absolutely return and send everyone I know there as well.

This place is good. I brought my mom here because she loves SEAFOOD. So she a whiting fish plate with fries. I also checked in on Yelp and received a FREE SIDE OR DRINK. I chose GREENS CUZ MY OLD LADY WANTED THEM GREENS..LOLl Momma You made it to Yelp.. She said NO PICS But it was Delicious

Excellent catfish, shrimp and Gumbo. Not salty like most restaurants. Highly recommend. Food taste like good old grandma's soul food. A++

Long wait if you don't call ahead first. I didn't mind the wait, but I was very annoyed when I saw an employee sharing photos and chit chatting about some Netflix show when there were 4 or 5 customers ahead of me; all waiting for their food. I had the fish and shrimp plate. The red beans were okay, the fish (sole) was cool (both needed salt) but the shrimp were really, really good!

I was craving fish and my colleague suggested this place. I think the staff were friendly and efficient, but I was disappointed. The dinner portion was really small and the potato salad was really sub par. The hush puppies were good, but really small. The fish was light and crispy, just small. The peach cobbler wasn't homemade and cold from the refrigerator. Cold cobbler is yucky to me. Not likely to return. I was so excited to have fish .

My husband went in there to pick up his order and said the girl at the register was rude and dry. Just Letting you know a sour attitude can ruin the reputation of a good place.

I absolutely love the gumbo! I DONT eat pork and the gumbo is made with chicken and shrimp and chicken sausage. It's hard to find gumbo with no pork. It's slightly spicy but sooo good. Our food was delivered hot and intact.

First timer, ordered over the phone & was done by the time I got there. The customer service over the phone was great and also in person during payment! The portion size is amazing! My plate was filled to the top. I order the grilled salmon & shrimp plate with rice & veggies. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will def be back, & so will my co workers LOL! 10/10.

Great poboy sandwiches. The Frie's grump was really tasty and the portions pretty big.

I guess the best way to start off is with the food. It's OK , I've had a lot of southern fried food from all over LA and I have to say that this one unfortunately is just OK. Now I don't mean it's horrible because it's not it's good , kind of tasty . they give you good amount of portions , and the sides are also good . What I mean is be honest it's a little bland. I compare that to other places that I've gone to and it's a little lacking in the spices department.. you will probably ask, will I go there again? I'm gonna be honest and probably say no because of the fact that I have my spots that I usually go to. I'm not in this area much so I was hoping it would be better to be honest but like I said it's not horrible. It's good I guess I'm just used to more authentic southern fish fry.. As for the service, I can honestly say that they were on top of it. They were nice and friendly and they took care of my order quite quickly. I didn't have to wait long for my order. Now the place,,, it's a small place. It's more of a to go place but they do have some small tables so if you want to have your lunch there and relax. that would be cool. Maybe you're not as picky as me and if you're in the area I said go try for yourself . Now this is a note to the owners. Number one "seriously " get a little bit more on the spices department. And stop watering down the sauce. It's not working.. also, go down to Crenshaw and Jefferson and check some of those southern fish fry spots out for yourself because "they got it going on " And if you guys could somewhat match the flavors they have , since you have a nice prime spot, you would be making a killing ..

Fishbone is great! I love the way they season the fish and how fresh it taste. Reminds me of old school fish fry's at granny's house. The wait is usually a little long, honestly it's worth it. If you don't want to wait, it might be better to call in before you go. That way you don't have to wait to long.

I wanted to see what the hype was.. ordered a fried red snapper dinner. I get home, the majority of the fish was catfish.. so I called to let them know what happened. They gave me week to correct the issue. Went back the following week to get my do-over (showed them receipt)... smh they still didn't get it correct. They gave me grilled fish..(not snapoer again) smh Moral of the story THEY DONT PAY ATTENTION!!! AND THEY NEED TO CLEAN UP THE PLACE!!!!!

Great experience I was invited bye the owner Billy ,it was top tier the food was fresh cooked to order the fried snapper was fresh the gumbo was very good a lot flavor ,my brothers were in town from Miami they were also very pleased with the food they ordered ,great experience ,great food , fresh seafood,great customer service skills definitely will be returning very soon

Don't have a hankering for good "soul seafood" and you're near a Fishbone, you know this is your spot!! My daughter attends school in LA and moving into dorms requires you treat yourself to a meal and piece of pie! (at least it does for us) our first time we didn't know wanted. We were so hungry we could have ordered one of everything on the menu! Our cashier helped us decide what to order to satisfy 4 different people at a reasonable price. Ordered Catfish, Snapper, Shrimp, Red Beans and Rice, Hush Puppies and Collards To-go Everything is Made to Order, well seasoned, not overly salty, and piping hot! The fish and shrimp were battered with cornmeal. As it should be. All the seafood came with a white dinner roll (not the slice of bread) They were out of sweet potato pies from 27th Street Bakery (also in Compton), but those can be found in Ralph's Grocery stores. we didn't mind making an extra stop to have some to bring back home. No need to sit down and eat because we needed to get back on the road- LA traffic is a beast Hands down one of the best fish Fry/soul food joints in LA

This was my first time ever ordering and trying Fishbone. Let me say my foid was still warm and bags sealed properly for delivery. My grubhub driver was very prompt thank you. Now, for the food, I ordered red snapper, red beans and rice, fried shrimp, and hush puppies. I was very dissatisfied with the snapper. It had absolutely no seasoning whatsoever! As well as the red beans and rice, just bland and tasteless! The only way I could eat the beans, are because the hush puppies were good, really the only thing that had a bit of seasoning! I read all the other reviews, stating that the food was tasteless, but I had to see for myself. The shrimp were just ok, slightly better than the fish. Would I return? Probably so, but not for their fish items or sides, just the shrimp and hush puppies. Fishbone, I suggest you do some taste testing on your products because they are definitely BLAND!

Food is freshly made . Customers service is always great. Food is seasoned very well and the wait is never too long.

I've literally passed by this place dozens of times without a second thought. One day I decided to try something new and I'm so glad I did. I had the shrimp po boy (which came with fries) and a side of collard greens. Let me start out by saying that it is A LOT of food, and that's a good thing. Sometimes when I finish a meal, I'm still hungry. Not the case here. Granted I don't have the largest appetite in the world, I'm glad I didn't have to worry about portion size. Secondly I absolutely enjoyed the Po Boy. I thought it was pretty flavorful and savory. While waiting, the owner offered me a sample of the gumbo, which was nice of him. It was also pretty good, I think I'll order it next time I'm there. The food and service was excellent, and I'm so glad I gave this place a shot. I'll be back!

OK, here you go as you all know I only post facts no cap! Happen to be in Compton paying a bill and I stumbled on Fishbone in Compton across the street from City Hall, so this review is only in regards to this location, I was starving and didn't want to cook, but I wanted something hearty So after I peruse the menu, I order up fried cat shrimp and fried with a side of red beans and rice and hush puppies, so I complete my order and the nice young man (brother) taking my order Who is very polite asked if I like to try some of their gumbo so I said sure why not so he gave me a sample and there was an explosion in my mouth the undo sausage and the gumbo was high-quality. It seemed to be chicken based not pork and the rue was excellent not bad for it not being homemade. I would definitely ordered it again. So I get my order I go home. I start eating it and everything was outstanding. The catfish was fried to perfection. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. it was succulent and not rubbery, and I also ordered a side of shrimp everything was portion nicely. The food really knocked my socks off, the red beans and rice were real red beans and rice not from a package. You could actually see the whole freaking bean lol it was no work. It wasn't no Popeyes stuff and the hush puppies were outstanding. They were cooked perfection. They were nice and crunchy on the outside and Barry moist on the inside as a hush puppy should be, so overall I definitely give them a 4 1/2 to 5 star rating. The service was definitely a five out of five. The food was excellent. I really have no complaints, the restaurant was clean and inviting. I definitely certify this establishment..

So... I'm a truck driver and bk I'm in a huge vehicle most locations aren't assessable to me. That being said, I requested uber eats from this place and they provided me with 3 different sauces and a side container with pickles, banana peppers and lemon wedges. Guys... I know the plate is 90% gone but the flavor is all there! The rice is a little bland but the veggies, salmon and shrimp make everything blend so well. Whoever made this made it with love!

I recently found this place as I work in Compton close by. So far every meal I have ordered was excellent. Service is curtious and place is clean. Props to CakesBySheWhite for her fantastic Strawberry Crunch deserts. Must try grilled salmon and fried catfish grilled shrimp

Greens were cold and I asked for fried hard young lady don't know how to take orders not going back and the fish taste was fishy

If you're hungry it definitely hits. Never tried the gumbo heard it was good. I don't care for the sides or the dessert but the salmon is the best thing on the menu to me

I just left here about 45 minutes ago. I've been generally pleased with them over the three months or, so I've been patronizing them before today. I was really hungry, so I got a pound of catfish instead of the entre portion I normally get. Much to my dismay, when I got home it was Filet of Sole and not Catfish, so I enjoyed some excellent greens & potato salad with 17.00 worth of skin and corn meal. The total bill was 26.52. Too expensive to make these kinds of mistakes. Check your food.

Food was really really yummy! Specially their seared fish.... Service was good as well.... Worth the drive again for sure

Well I have been to a few of these franchised so I was prepared fur some good food. I was helped by a young man who was able to answer all my questions with no problem. I order all types of shrimp and vegetables on a bed of rice and it was very tasty. The owner and other employees didn't really greet you or smile but maybe they were focused on preparing the good food for folks. . (Mind you that you can see the cooks and they can see you ) I am not sure if they even talk to each other lol. My only concern was that the owner had to help his employee with register and then went back into the kitchen area. He didn't touch the food with his hands just moved the frying basket around. Not too long after that he washed his hands. Their was about 2 people who wore gloves and the others no gloves. But maybe they already washed theirs hands prior to cooking Oh! yeah I didn't use check in but they do offer a free drink or side. The food I ordered was good and I am very happy to see a diversed group working in the community.

I asked for a fish & shrimp plate this is what I get! Where tf is my rice?! When I told them they got my order wrong they offered me fucking veggies bro like seriously wtf imma do with that. They refused to change my order very fucking ghetto. They told me I had to be specific for my order like why tf I have to come in here & take over your position in order to get my damn order right like tf. DONT COME HERE !!!

I drive an ambulance for work. I was put on break in the area and yelped food. Fishbone seafood came up. The restaurant doesn't look like much but the food here is amazing! I ordered the shrimp po boy and the gumbo. The shrimp po boy was delicious. My favorite po boy anywhere. I like fishbones shrimp po boy more than the ones ive tried on bourbon st in new orleans. My work partner is from georgia and he said the fishbone po boy is one of the best po boys he had also. I included a photo of the po boy but not the gumbo. By the time I realized i should write a review for this gem i had already finished the gumbo. That was some really good gumbo. Great value, delicious food and friendly staff. I would give this place 6 stars if i could.

Today I ordered two Red Snapper lunch specials, the same order I always get, today 1/27/24 this particular branch decided to get skimpy with the snapper which pissed me off!! Now what most fish market are doing is cutting one piece of fish into 3 to 4 pieces instead of giving proper portions I took both plates back and got a refund! If you're hungry avoid this spot

Today I ordered food from here and what a wonderful surprise the food was extraordinary. I ordered a pound of grilled shrimp, a combo plate with grilled oysters, shrimp, greens and salad for my Keto diet. And the taste was out of this world! I think I am going to eat here tomorrow again it was that delicious I never had green from a restaurant so well seasoned and tasty.

Each time I have been here I've been satisfied with my portion of food and the quality of food. I have had the fried red snapper, whiting, shrimp, oysters, and catfish. All have been amazing. The sides I have had are the fries, garlic bread, macaroni salad, and red beans and rice and they all have been amazing. The only thing that I don't like is you come out smelling like fish. They just need a better vent system.

I called in my order the customer service was bad I talked to angel. Food was cold and all the food I ordered was not in the box and the hush puppies was not all the way cooked !

Came in and was humbly greeted, asked if this was my first time indeed it was honored the yelp check in and also offered complimentary gumbo, stellar! The choices are so delightful and also healthy options off the grill as well. I purchased the shrimp n oyster combo with a side of garlic bread and hush puppies. Man listen, DO NOT sleep on this gem by no means, I'm from the south ( South Carolina to be exact) WE LOVE our fried foods and this is pretty close to my home cooking! Great staff great food don't miss out on this one! The food and hospitality cannot be matched but the food .....BUSSSSSSIN

I would give 3.5 stars as an average of my total of 3 separate visits. Initially tried them prior to COVID and found them to be similar to other fish places. I recently decided to re-visit this past April and was happy I did so. This particular time I was greeted by non-A staff who processed my order throughly. I always request double Cajun seas and prefer grilled as opposed to fried. My order was well seasoned, grilled perfectly and was NOT DRIED OUT. This visit made me eager to return soon and introduce family to the Fishbone establishment. Unfortunately, my return visit was met with major disappointment. My order was not processed correctly as I requested half grilled and have fried. Further, my grilled options were SUPER dry and lacked the double Cajun seasoning I requested. Staff were respectful and seemed to be working efficiently however, the quality of the food was lacking and I am utterly disappointed. I feel that a return is unlikely unless that specific manager is present to avoid a lack in overall quality. Hoping to see some consistency in quality as dried out grilled options are no one's favorite.

I decided to try fishbone again. They did not comply with any of my request. The fish was Soggy and limp because it was put in a plastic bag even though I ask them not to put my food in plastic. Also the presentation of the food was awful and finally the shrimp tasted like they were spoiled, the fish was not seasoned. I'm done. I gave them a fair chance. They stuck in customer service. So! Dissatisfied

This place was listed on the Black Restaurant Week site... why, I don't know; because it is not Black Owned! We still decided to order, but wish we hadn't. The two stars are for the great service and the fried shrimp was ok. We also ordered some red snapper , greens, and red beans and rice. We ordered extra pieces of fish, but didn't realize there was no extra fish til we got home. The fish tasted old and had a fishy taste. The red beans were tasteless... not enough seasoning and needed to be cooked longer. The greens needed to be cooked longer and seasoned. We could not understand why there was a line ?!?!

After working a 10 hour shift, with no time to cook and young like someone mentioned in a negative review, I come to this place to enjoy their delicious fish and fried oysters. Not to mention the GUMBO that I was offered to me while waiting for my order. I will definitely order this the next time I visit. Also, the staff is very attentive and quick preparing orders. This place has become my favorite spot for dinner

This wasn't my first time eating here. I normally go in, but because of COVID 19 I ordered Door Dash. I received my order & was disappointed when my Garlic Bread was burnt. I called & was placed on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up. I am upset because this meal cost me $40 so I would expect not to have burnt bread. It will be a minute before I order again. Bill rectified the situation. Thank you Bill!

This establishment is the best evveerrr! The food is superb. The frilled catfish and shrimp are everything! What tops it all off is the staff! The manager goes out of his way to accommodate customers. I highly recommend this restaurant! Good down home meals. They do t just feed your appetite they feed your spirit! I came I feeling bad and I am leaving with a whole new attitude! You gotta try them out! This is absolutely my favorite seafood restaurant! Heck, it's my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles for sure. The greens are like mommas and the red beans and rice are just like my daddy's! You gotta try the fried oysters! They are to die for! YAAASSSS!

Ordered Red Snapper, Shrimp, catfish and fries. I ordered the Red Snapper for myself and the rest for family however Red Snapper came burnt and virtually inedible.

This was my first time visiting this morning and I am so glad that I did after hearing about Fishbone for awhile now. A gentleman by the name of Aron assisted me. He was so very helpful and was patient after hearing that I was a first timer. I respected that he didn't make me feel rushed to make a choice. I'm not sure who cooks the greens but they were excellent to me. The fish was the perfect extra crispy just the way I asked and not overly crispy.. I read a previous review where someone complained about soggy fish. I think because she told them well done.. Of course most markets will cook the fish well done, but the key is knowing what to ask for Hopefully if she sees this comment, she will give them another shot, but next time ask for extra crispy to get the texture u desire.. Anyway, I will definitely be going back .. And that dill sauce got me hooked.. I will know next time to pay for an extra one.

Terrible. Zero seasoning, rice undercooked. The fish isn't fresh. This location is very different from others. Will not frequent this location ever again. I also didn't like the way the owner or manager spoke to the cook. Very disrespectful in front of customers. Waste of 40 00.

I ordered take out here for the first time during quarantine because I was craving fried Cajun shrimp and wow I will never order from anywhere else again! Honestly, I am semi allergic to shrimp and I get an allergic allergic reaction whenever I eat that isn't fresh. I have had this shrimp more than twice and I have never had an allergic reaction so it's always fresh ! It's so flavorful and I recommend the fish and shrimp combo with the Dill Sauce !! You can't go wrong with this combo. Can't wait to come back after this whole quarantine is over !!!
