We stopped in on a recommendation from a friend while we were visiting town. It was an excellent experience with great food and a wonderful atmosphere. The alligator bites were a fun appetizer for the kids. The star of our meal was the seafood pasta. It was rich and full of flavor. If you are in the area, it's definitely worth a visit. If you found this review helpful, please give a 👍

Google
Fishbone's has been around for a while so it's one of my local favorites. Every time I go, I say I'm going to try something new. I don't. I love their seafood Gumbo & the seafood pasta Orleans. I had Dennis as my server. He was great! He was attentive and funny. The atmosphere is nice. Perfect bar atmosphere particularly for sporting events. There is ample seating and 3 bars! Fridays & Saturdays, they have live music and that is super nice. There is an automatic gratuity added to all bills regardless of the party size. There is parking however it costs and the cost varies based on where you park. Currently, there is construction but the restaurant is still open while the construction takes place.

Not much different than what you’d expect out of a typical American bar except this one serves New Orleans cuisine. When the warm bread hit the table I was excited. Then after I took a bite, I was less excited. BUT when tried my second bite dipped in that garlic butter, that changed everything!! It went from ok to great! The butter flavor was a pleasant surprise that I was not expecting. I didn’t foresee me cleaning out the bread basket before my food arrived, but that’s what happened. I ordered the seafood gumbo to start — this did disappoint. Had this dish been better, I would have given this place 5 stars. It was a giant bowl of rice with some shrimp on top. Please see photos — pictured is how the bowl was presented and what was left after I ate all the shrimp and a little rice. The winner winner for the evening was the crabbed stuffed shrimp which I had to take to-go because I was stuffed from the bread. Unfortunately I don’t have the best pic of the crabbed stuffed shrimp because I took a bite and couldn’t stop biting lol Thus, there are the remnants of what was…just know that it was DELICIOUS!! The accompanying roasted potatoes were great as well, and the vegetables weren’t bad at all. Overall, Fishbones is worth a try!

Atmosphere: 10/10. Music playing, beautiful seating. Prices: High given the location. Service: just ok. We had a big group and some people arrived few mins late. They didn’t receive cutlery or plates or cups of water until much later. Asking for their orders went like this, “you, what you want?” once they arrived and weren’t even given a menu lol. Food: so good, everything smelled and looked great. The firecracker cheese appetizer was so fun, the bread service so filling, the pasta was a nice veggie option to have, plenty of sides as well to consider 🍝

Great place and amazing food. Service is sub par tho.

Been coming here for over 30 years never had a bad meal. Lived in The D for over 12 years off and on from the mid 80's to late 90's From the DMV food has always been good. Some people just like to complain 🙄. If something is wrong they have no problem making it right. Relax and breathe life is short enjoy the moment. Atmosphere is great in the heart of the city. Enjoy.

Google
The food was delicious, flavorful Louisiana style cooking. The staff at the bar was energetic and fun even though it was close to closing time. They stop seating an hour before close so they can wait on you, then start cleaning so they can get out at a decent hour. So don't wait too late. I would eat here again when I return for another visit.

I’ve frequented this location and once more brought someone from Indy with me. My daughter adores this places she wanted to get one of everything. She enjoyed the three entrees and appetizer she tried. The service was questionable and that area I gave three stars because of the staff teamwork that made our visit pleasant.

Yelp
Fishbones Rhythm Kitchen Cafe (West) was the recent dinner destination in Southfield. It had been a long time since I dined here. Probably not since the national pandemic shutdown. It is great to see they survived the storm when many restaurants closed their businesses. My book club gathered in their French Quarter private dining room. Everything was nicely setup for us to dine and discuss our book selection. The mounted television also played soft music for us. Our book club host hand everything prepared for us in advance. Our food selection for the evening was chosen and setup by our server. She was excellent! She was also very accommodating for two members that were doing the Daniel Fast by bringing them baked potatoes and veggies. Our spread was excellent and plentiful! We had catfish beignets with remoulade sauce, chicken, Orleans pasta, garden salad, and bread followed by chocolate cake. Our beverage options were in our room and anyone wanting a cocktail could go order one at the bar in the restaurant. The surprise of the evening was the live music which is there every Saturday night. The music was great! Just note the private room is not sound proof so you are definitely going to hear the band. I would love to comeback to really enjoy the band! PSA (posted signs): 18% gratuity is added to all guest checks and 20% for parties of 10 or more; No separate checks for parties of 6 or more. All guests in your party must be present before being seated.

Yelp
Great service at the bar! My brother recommended this place from his time here in the Mid-90's. The gumbo is fire and so is the crawfish etoufee covered catfish! Tom and Patrick will take good care of you!

Yelp
Booked a resy online 7:15. All but one entrance was locked and closed. Therefore were a few minutes late, they rudely said they gave away our table and had to wait. Won't see me again. Would give less than one star if was an option.
google avatar

Yelp
Fishbones is a staple in the city if you want some southern style seafood or pasta. My go to order is always the catfish with red beans and rice which is always cooked to perfection. The sushi was excellent as usual as well. This particular time was directly after a funeral for a loved one so it was a very large group and they did accommodate all of us for seating because it's a very large space. The 4 stars is only due to the fact that they could not split up our bill nor could we use multiple cards which ended up in the chaos of everyone having to figure out how much to send to one person. Will be back but probably not with a large party.

Yelp
Ate here for my mom's birthday dinner on 8/30. I ordered sushi and they were out of uni and salmon roe. To dedicate one whole side of the menu to sushi and then not have basic nigiri in stock is disappointing. Hubby ordered braised short ribs and he enjoyed them. We were the only diners in the entire dining room on the sushi bar side which was nice but odd for a Friday night. I wouldn't recommend order sushi from this place again and opt to try more of the Cajun/Creole dishes instead.

Greg G.

Yelp
A classic downtown Detroit staple. I've had only their Cajun food and sushi and those never disappoint. Plenty of seating for any size group. Location is great too, next to casino and walking distance to Ford Field. I would have given 5 stars but last time I was there and seated at the bar service was slow considering the the amount of staff. Service is always friendly

Jillian M.

Yelp
food was excellent, our server seemed as if she was on drugs, shaking throughout our entire service and didn't even know basic items on the menu. most of our table of 6 asked for waters, yet she brought each drink to us one by one, and kept asking us what she forgot. great atmosphere and food but extremely disappointed with our waitress.
google avatar

Loletha D.

Yelp
Food was just ok...I remember a time when the food was really delicious. Me bread was really good though. The service was really good. They have live music which was nice, I enjoyed. Yes I'd revisit for the chill atmosphere.

Yelp
We ordered the salmon salad, the shrimp poboy and the sticky wings. The salmon was fishy smelling meaning it was old the walnuts were old. The sauce on wings was ketchup base and had no taste. The shrimp would have was fryed with no taste. The sauce on the poboy was bland. Do not order these items. Also they add in their gratuity automatically that's not cool. Take my advice go somewhere else not down town Fishbones.

Yelp
Sigh We were a party of four and each one of us was disappointed with our meal. Sad because i used to love this place. Plate one was a burger with fries that was adjust... OK Plate two Orange Roughy that was bland and unseasoned. Plate Three sushi that was brought to us with no rice (we did not order sashimi) Plate four is this shrimp and grits... Let's talk about THIS since it was my plate. Grits should NOT be solid. They should not be hard. They should not sit like this on my plate. The shrimp were overly salty. I understand they are blackened which intensifies the seasoning but this is just pure salt. . Sad that out of four plates over $120 (with mandatory gratuity in place) not one good meal in the bunch.

Yelp
Everything was hot, fresh & delicious. I went Monday September 4, 2023 (Labor day) at 8:30p. I sat at the bar w/ my partner. The place was pretty slow. The bartender was kind & very helpful. We even ordered sushi togo. My was really good and flavorful. It just wasn't as spicy as I wanted. My love adored his Chicken Pasta Orleans. && babyyy that Alligator Voodoo was so fresh & powerful!
google avatar

Yelp
Fishbones is in greektown. This place is way bigger on the inside! There is parking right across the street and they have bar seating and table seating. The service is fast and friendly. Most of the staff seems very friendly and knowledgeable. The food is expensive but delicious. There is a fishtank a music space and a huge 3 story fountain which isn't operational anymore but this place has been around for years there is alot of history there
google avatar

Teresa M.

Yelp
All 3 meals were wonderful. Just enough Cajun spice in jambalaya, excellent red fish and perfect amount of breading on my seafood platter. Best red beans and rice I've ever had. Waiter was wonderful and the building was historic and yet totally updated. Look for green marble wall, breathtaking.
google avatar

Graziella B.

Yelp
Quick access and parking across the street. If you're looking for a place to eat if you like seafood and something quick while being downtown, this is the place. Parking is about $20 across the street but it's well worth it. There were no long lines or waiting and it's best to make your reservations online with Open Table or call ahead. Our waitress was Johnny on the spot, we didn't have to ask for any refills or anything, she brought her A game to the table.
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
The place has seen better days. The waterfall was not working which was at one point a record holding indoor waterfall. Although the staff was friendly they chose to sit us where live music would be setting up 10 minutes after we were seated. Alligator Voodoo, which was one of my main reason for going to this place was meh. A couple pieces of the alligator was like chewing rubber. $20 is too expensive for the quality. Jambalaya was the same at $22 for chicken and sausage to $25 for the shrimp and sausage it seemed like they just scooped it out of a big vat. The portion did not even fill the plate. On top of that the main course came out while we were still trying to chew our app. With the poor timing and mid service I understood why as they force a 15% tip to the tab. With the explosion of place to try downtown this place has overstayed its welcome.

Yelp
Came here for a Bachelorette party and had reservations. The guy at the front messed up the reservation and sat us at a table in the vack with so many seats. We even confirmed about the reservation and were only 5 minutes. The service was not great and the guy took forever to even just get a drink order. The only reason I am giving this place a one star is that he escorted me to the bathroom. A friend and I went to the bar since the drinks were taking so long. We ordered at the bar and did not have a lot of things. The food was mideocre and was not worth the money. We had gotten sushi but there were a lot of choice on the menu. I use to come here before but would never go back now.

Yelp
This place has really gone downhill. Let's start with the good. Live music was the only thing that was good. The bad: we were seated and waitress Haley took over 10 minutes to greet us mind you there were hardly any guest on a Saturday night. Next, she brought us water and took our order but usually Fishbones brings you bread and butter also in which I seen the other waiters doing so at other tables. We ordered gumbo and the Yaya soup. It took forever to come out and when it did it was cold. At that time time she finally brought the bread and left abruptly so we had to wait another 10 minutes to send the soups back. When she finally came back, we sent the soup back and placed our entree order. I ordered the seafood pasta Orleans and my husband ordered the grilled chicken fillet meal. When Haley brought our soups back, they were not fresh, just heated up in the microwave. I took a few bites of the gumbo and it wasn't up to standard. Next Haley brought us our entrees but no silverware, we had to ask another server for them. The pasta was horrendous. It tasted like overly seasoned pesto. My husband's chicken looked good but by the time we were ready to go so he got it wrapped. I also took my pasta so I could make my own pasta sauce at home. Finally the bill came and it was $95 which included 18% gratuity. I tip well for good service but unfortunately good service was not what I had. I used to love Fishbones but I will never return.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Detroit. Food was so good I almost booked a room just to stay all night. The customer service is nice at a table or at the bar. The restaurant's ambiance is nostalgic and relaxed, perfect for solo dates, groups or couples.

Yelp
Great food Great ambiance Amazing drinks! I wasn't keen on the alligator but got to try it when you're there.

Yelp
Food was OK but restaurant was not clean to me. Sushi was also not good to me and staff was great. My son enjoyed his food but said he would be ok if we did not return .

Yelp
The Jefferson location has the worst service ever!!! It was HAIR in my Suchi The Blt was dry as ever the only food thing we had were the ribs and gumbo The manager called the police on my fiance and I because I wasn't happy with the dry BLT!!! THIS WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I WILL NOT EVER GO BACK I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Yelp
usually one of our favorite places always looking forward to a visit when home from living across state. I'm highly disappointed this evening! Absolutely the worst food and service we received. the manager (the gentleman) on duty this evening just made everything worse. We waited around 40 minutes to even place our order. 1. alligator app came out with hair in it (didn't take it off the bill) 2. asked for eel sauce for my sushi, never brought it. 3. all 3 orders of ribs came out dry. (server never came back to check on us) 4. asked for ketchup, brought an empty bottle. 5. the menu states 18% gratuity added to parties (the counted a baby ) but proceeded to add 20% on the bill instead of the 18% Our server brought our $308 bill took it back, then added additional charges and brought it to us with no explanation at all. I walked to the front to speak with a manager ( the gentlemen) on duty this evening, and he proceeded to say he already spoke to my husband and completely disregarded everything I said and didn't care at all. instead was shoving nuts in his mouth. He was beyond rude. He came over to the table and took the bill asking where the ribs and things went that we complained about but everything had been cleared. He stormed away taking 15 20 minutes to come back with the bill and went off about paying for things, etc. We were being circled by security for no reason, no causing a scene or anything. It was ridiculous. No apology, no nothing. I am going to also write corporate and ownership about this absolutely horrible meal and service we had. The only nice thing was Paula a younger lady hopefully a manager who apologized and told us the steps to take to make sure the right people know.
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
Came here for Detroit lions game. We got seated right away. Of course it was busy but we were not acknowledged until we waved someone down 30 minutes later. No water, no bread until we waved a sweet lady down. She came back with bread and water for us. Then we asked if she knew who our waitor was and she went to check. She said it was the one waiting on this very large group next to us. He seemed really nice to them. Tried giving benefit of the doubt, it was a large table he was serving. The lady told him that we are his table infront of us. He has walked right by us multiple times and we assumed we aren't assigned to him until she confirmed. He still never acknowledged us and we waited another 20 minutes. Not even to say he will be right with us or anything. Still no waitor and we flagged him down and asked if we could order. He said he wasn't our waitor though this lady checked and told him after confirming. So after 50 minutes of waiting, we decided to leave.

Yelp
The food is always excellent, however I planned a family gathering for 20 at the Southfield location and not only was the food still awesome, but the service was great and everything was done with such care. The manager Mr. Leroy was attentive to our every need. I had to make several calls over several months and he was great at communicating and answering all of my questions. Mr. Leroy is definitely an asset to the Fishbone organization and you are very fortunate to have him.

Morghin W.

Yelp
would rate this 0 stars if it was possible. food was gross service was so so bad. ambiance was ok but the bad definitely outweighs the good. would have rather ate Mcdonalds.
google avatar

Keith H.

Yelp
The food has always been "fine" at Fishbone's. Those seeking New Orleans style authenticity in the heart of Detroit's Greek town should keep searching. For what it is, the food is ok. However, the crux of my problems with Fishbone's lies with the service. It BLOWS like Satchmo on Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras. For the first time since my 20s, I was going to tip a server less than 20%, but the downtown Detroit auto-gratuity saved my server's bacon. If you want a Detroit take on New Orleans cuisine, get a takeout order.
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
This is a really cool place in Greektown of downtown Detroit. They don't take reservations but it was only a 15 mins wait to get in on a Saturday night for 4. Our server Jake was friendly. They also have a Guiness record for largest indoor foundation in June 1990 - they no longer hold the record and the fountain is not in commission. We ordered the saganaki opa and catfish beignets for appetizers. I was a little disappointed the cheese wasn't spicy as advertised. The catfish was more like fried fish instead of having the beignet batter. The crawfish ettoffet was delicious. The sushi was mediocre. But it was an overall nice vibe and affordable!

Jovanni I.

Yelp
Place looks nice but the service is poor and the food quality is pretty bad. Frozen and microwaved fish, hotdog bun quality bread, but fries are okay Half the beer on the menu is not in stock. The price they charge demands 3 times better quality and service. Not worth your time.

Vicki S.

Yelp
I made reservation 3p because we were on a schedule. When I got there and there was a long line of people to be seated, hostess told me it didn't matter if I had reservations I had to go to the end of the line. I waited 45 minutes to get seated. Why do you take reservations if your not going to seat them first? Once I was seated and our orders placed it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get our food. Asked the waiter for more bread, he said yes, but never received it. The waiter never came back to refill our waters or ask if we wanted additional drinks. Just kept telling us our order was next. My party needed to be out of there by 430p. Received our food at 5pm ate quickly and left at 515p. Needless to say we were late to our event. When I brought this to the managers attention he told me its hard to find good help. I will not return and will not recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
We had an early dinner in tbe bar, it was a cozy, dark area but comfortable and clean! The Bar Tender Jabari was attentive and friendly! The drinks were worth the price, they were delicious and had a kick! The food was the best we have had in the six days that we have been here! The shrimp and grits were supposed to have a kick but they were tasty and mild ! The shrimp and crab salad were fresh and tasty! This is a Must!!! Across the street from the casino in Greek Town! A Must Stop for Everyone!!!
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Amazing food & the staff is awesome! Get the bbq shrimp! I always have a great meal at FB!
google avatar

Yelp
Crab stuffed shrimp green beans and roasted potatoes. Good vibes good food good energy. Enjoy myself every time.

Vern H.

Yelp
Great food, great bar, great staff, we had a good time. A party of 6 stopped by for dinner, we did not have to wait long for a table. The wait staff was very pleasant. The drinks came soon enough and the food was great! I try to always grab a meal at Fishbone's when I'm in Detroit
google avatar

Beau H.

Yelp
A great spot to get sushi when the kitchen is open and the right staff is in place - its a great music venue and a special part of our detroit visits since 2007 - I love it here but just verify they are still serving sushi if thats what you want in your life. Can't wait to be back! Great job everyone!

Mellissa R.

Yelp
Very poor management and customer service! Took my family here on Tuesday and I felt like fainting at the table. Went outside and they freaked out about a glass of water I had. My chest started tightening and I couldn't breathe well. Told my family cancel the order we were going to the hospital. They threatened to call the cops on us if we left without paying. All they had to say was hey the food is already being made we need you to pay you can take it to go but they threatened a cop call. I ended up having surgery that night because a cyst burst inside of me. Be more considerate of your guests! Will not be going back!
google avatar

Nina N.

Yelp
Great place to go before or to watch the Lions game. Long, spacious bar that never feels crowded. Bartending staff is always fun and very accommodating! The one thing that doesn't really change is my order. I've had the burger before and it was good but their New Orleans BBQ shrimp appetizer is a MUST! It is a meal in itself and it never disappoints. They bring out hot, crusty rolls that are just perfect for dipping in whatever sauce you might have left over (I always ask for extra) You won't find shrimp like this anywhere else - I promise!
google avatar

Ash L.

Yelp
Wonderful ambiance and area in general. This space is both historic and diverse. Anyone interested in a fun group or date night should consider this place. Good service and great food. A must visit !!!
google avatar

CJ M.

Yelp
Just an okay spot that seems to go farther downhill every time I visit. It's not what it used to be. The place was barely packed. The food was descent, but nothing amazing for the cost. Nothing stood out... sadly. **good iced tea

Angie W.

Yelp
I heard great things about this restaurant, this was my first time eating here . I was seated right away the restaurant was not busy and very clean . My waiter came finally introduced himself as Dennis and I told him our drink order then he disappeared for about 10 minutes I then ordered appetizers and that took forever Dennis was know where In sight we needed refills we had none . When we finally got our food that's all the Dennis did was drop it off . We had to ask for our bill and then wait once again for him to come back . I don't think we will come back to this location again . Very unfortunate.
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
My waitress was pretty awesome. She was actually my favorite part of this experience. But other than that the food was just ok. The gumbo is absolutely disgusting. Taste like a bowl of gravy. Barely any seafood in it at all actually. Calamari was soggy. My fish was just Ok. Everything needed salt or something lol Maybe the day time chef was just having an off day. But I'm never gonna know cause I'm not going back.
google avatar

Yelp
For my vegan friends, the options are limited. If you are like me and going to this place because you were invited and they don't think you eat anyway, you can prove them wrong. We had a large party, 3 tables with a total of 18. So the slow service was to be expected. However, we weren't asked if we wanted appetizers and we also at the end instead of being given a check per table, we were given one check to figure out the split. The few vegan options were tasty. We arrived at 6 and left at 8:30 so all in all not too bad.

Yelp
This is my first time visiting Fishbone's, and I can see why it is a classic Detroit institution. Unfortunately, most of it was closed because of COVID. It would have been so fun to be able to sit in the center area with the waterfall coming down. The wait staff were very nice and accommodating, however. We ordered the classic saginaki and they promptly lit it on fire. It was tasty because it's basically melted cheese. I would stick to the soul food on the menu. I tried a sushi roll just to try it, but they should really stick to one type of cuisine.

John F.

Yelp
The restaurant has a nice decor the service is alittle lacking as I just dined there June 26 ! I ordered the shrimp stuffed with crab very good but the hurricane I ordered didn't come close to the hurricanes I've gotten in New Orleans and the seafood gumbo way over spiced had it not been so expensive probably wouldn't of eaten it .... I think if you're gonna offer New Orleans inspired food you should have someone cooking it that knows how it's done properly as well as the drinks ! For the prices charged which appeared to be a little on the high side I'm sure there might be other places close by where you might get a better bang for your $$$!!! Probably a one & done visit for me unless things were to change ! Gotta go 1 star

Yelp
The food was delicious and so was the service. it was our first time there and I tell you it won't be the last. Micheal our waiter was excellent at providing customer service. He guided us on exactly what to choose from a menu full of great options and we were super happy!! Thanks to the staff of incredible cooks and thanks again Micheal for making our Fishbone experience memorable! If you haven't gone it's a must try again and again!

LJ S.

Yelp
Terrible! I was in town for the Grand Prix and had eaten here before and was happy with my meal. I ordered the muscles as my main course. The muscle meat was overcooked to the point of liquid. It was gross... I told the server that they were very overcooked when she stopped to check in and the only response was "okay, sorry." No offer to take them back. No offer to remove them from the bill and order something else. The were pretty much inedible, but the server definitely did not seem concerned which leads me to believe the restaurant doesn't value quality food and isn't concerned with what they serve customers. With so many options in Greektown, it's better to go somewhere else. $45 dollars for inedible muscles, some fries and one drink.

Amy B.

Yelp
My husband and I traveled to Downtown Detroit, MI for a wedding. We wanted to find a restaurant for a nice dinner. Fishbone's was within walking distance from our hotel. There was a good crowd for a Thursday night. I ordered the Faroe Island Salmon and my husband ordered Ahi Tuna Steak. Both entrees came with vegetables. My salmon was cooked to perfection. The Ahi Tuna steak was nicely seared. Our waiter was polite and knowledgeable about the menu. This restaurant deserves a higher rating - should be a minimum of 4.

Petra J.

Yelp
Wonderful menu, atmosphere and service. The sushi is fresh and the choices are great. We also had the filet which was cooked perfectly. The jambalaya was amazing. Our server, Roo, was fast and friendly. We will be back!

Honey B.

Yelp
Fishbone's is my go to restaurant for great food. The service is superb. The food is the correct temperature and is prepared with care. The server checks back with you after you receive your food and quickly gets anything you might want. The atmosphere is wonderful. I strongly recommend Fishbone's.

Yelp
I've been going to Fishbones for the majority of my life. The food is solid and you pretty much always know what to expect. We stopped in last night for the first time in a couple years for drinks and apps. Our server was excellent. The place hasn't changed and we were not disappointed. This restaurant has been in business this long for a reason. If you've never been, I definitely recommend checking it out!
