"Going for yum cha is a Sydney tradition, with locals and visitors alike savoring delicious Chinese treats. Meaning “drink tea” in Cantonese, the ritual involves dining on lots of little dim sum delicacies, from seafood dumplings to spring rolls to pork buns, teamed with fragrant Chinese tea. Usually served piled high in bamboo steamers by wait staff wielding trolleys, these sensational snacks evolved in Hong Kong, but have translated perfectly a continent away. One of the city's top yum cha destinations is in Sydney Fish Market, where Fisherman’s Wharf Seafood Restaurant beckons. Consider Chinatown in Haymarket as well, which hosts classic, old-school restaurants Golden Century and Marigold, both popular yum cha haunts, especially for Sunday lunch." - Sophie Davies

This is a great and comfortable venue for entertaining. We had our whole family there tonight. The food was delicious as always. When the waiter found out that it was our son's birthday, he even brought out some jelly for the kid with a candle on top! Highly recommend this place for some really fresh seafood cooked in Chinese style.

Do you know there is a yum cha restaurant above the Sydney Fish Market that serves fresh plump seafood dumplings? The dining area is spacious with plenty of seats overlooking the Wharf. The yum cha dishes are pretty decent. Service is quite friendly. A nice change compare to the hectic market scene downstairs.

Solid four stars. Came for Friday lunchtime yum cha and all the usual hits are available on the carts. Prawn dumplings are great, steam dim sum solid and the greens are yummy. All the guidelines for covid are in place - socially distanced tables, QR code check in etc

Visited on Friday noon for lunch with work colleagues. At 2.30pm they were still serving dim sum, which we happily chose for appetisers. Mains were good portion for sharing. All the food are in general tasty & reasonably priced, considering the serving size & quality. On a separate occasion before this lunch, we came here for dinner & had the a fresh crab cooked on a bed of egg noodles with garlic, black bean & starchy gravy. It was unbearably bland, so recommend to stick with strong seasoning for whatever you order here.

This is a pretty cool restaurant, it has a great view overlooking Fisherman's Wharf, the service is good and the yum cha is good too, the ladies with the carts are pretty switched on and give you a good explanation of the dumplings and best of all it's very reasonably priced.

Fast service - not sure about the other reviews but the decor was fine for how old the building is. The food was yummy and they were pretty accommodating to vegetarians. We went at a quite time so there weren't many carts going around but I would go back. Sorry the pictures didn't get in before my friends. But I always love a messy yum cha table

Some of the best seafood in Sydney cooked Cantonese style. Had the sashimi lobster and the butter garlic Lobster with noodles which was delicious. Service was also top notch with staff always ensuring our glass was full. Overall had a great time at this restaurant.

A sea of tranquility above the hustle and bustle of the Sydney Fish Market. Ok, so we went for yum cha at 10am before the crowds, but with lovely views over the bay and prompt, attentive service, this is a great yum cha restaurant. Har gow were moist and plump, salt and pepper squid had good crunch and bite, siu mai and other dumplings were also tender and delicious. Not the absolute best I've had in Sydney, but the overall experience here deserves 5 stars. Around $30pp with tea was more than enough to keep us full for the day.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times with my husband for some good ol' yum cha. They're located on the second floor of the fish market, and it's a pretty large space that starts to get pretty busy around 11 am. The place is standard yum cha, with a decent variety of noodles, buns, dumplings, and dessert buns. I will say, this place doesn't have some of the more traditional dishes like chicken's feet, possibly because it sees a lot of Caucasian customers? BBQ pork is probably the most common filling in their dishes, which I can't complain about because my taste buds aren't that adventurous when it comes to Chinese food. Service is okay, and the restaurant has a beautiful view of the water. If my husband and I are in the mood for yum cha, this place is definitely in the running. However, we did notice today that the price of their plates has gone up. We had 2 small dishes and 5 large ones today, and the total ended up being around $57. A bit steep for value, if you ask me.

Yelp
Head waiter staff rude. Trolley ladies rather stand around edge and not push their trolleys around. I had to go up to them Not hospitable at all. Won't be in a hurry to go back They are after the big bucks so welcome cashed up Chinese mainlanders who don't care about the bill and just order the most expensive seafood. I'm not that silly and hate that they don't extend their service to everyone. Where are all the good Chinese restaurants? It is an end of an era.

Yelp
While I was living in Pyrmont, my flatmate was raving about the Yum Cha at the Fish Market but I never made it out. Now that I'm living in Randwick, I finally went for on a Sunday afternoon. We got there around 11, and the place was fairly empty. The restaurant is fairly large and can fit big groups. But as we ate, more and more people came and when we left, the line was out the door. It was pretty standard yum cha, had some nice haw gao, scallop dumplings, noodles with prawn, chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. Might have ordered too many dishes, because we were stuffed. With most Chinese places (I'm Chinese so I'm not being racist), the service was a bit average. Not the friendliest people but that's to be expected. In the end, the bill was $60 for two people. Great place for yum cha, but go early!

Yelp
Yum cha in Sydney has been on the decline for years now, so I wasn't expecting all that much when I went to this one for the first time. With that backdrop, I was pleasantly surprised - everything we tried was delicious, the service was passable, the location is fabulous (parking is a hassle but at least you don't have to pay if you eat here) and it's a nice place to get a coffee and go for a walk after the meal. The bill came to $30 each which is about what you'd expect at similar places in the city. It's really a 3-3.5 star restaurant, but just having somewhere else to go for yum cha other than the old standards is worth an extra star on its own.

Yelp
In terms of seafood Yum Cha spots, this fishy little number climbs to spot #1 without a doubt. Food we will get to in a minute. Large windows look over the marina, spacious tables for 10, tanks of crabs and fish. There is a large bar for drinks and tea for all!!!!! You might have to flag down the trolley ladies but they come out fairly often. If you're willing, order from the kitchen, duck pancakes and chicken feet. With a group of 6 yum Cha fanatics, we ordered everything! You can't go wrong with prawn and chive dumplings, Chinese broccoli, and my fav- mango pancakes! Go here for yum Cha if you want a a seafood experience!

Yelp
Hey, it's not too bad. Our visit last week was blighted by being seated beside the payment desk, and bugger all trolleys made it our way. Frustratingly, I was seated where I could see delicious looking things sail out of the kitchen, and head to other hungry customers! We had to try and catch someone to send food around fairly frequently, and not often successfully. Pork Buns were tasty. Ha Gow was disappointing. Mango Pancakes were probably heavy on the cream, light on the mango, but at least the mango was fresh, and ever so slightly under ripe, which was lovely. Custard tarts could have been a bit more golden, slightly under cooked, but OK. I was really there for the seafood, and managed to snare none of it! (Mutters darkly. The crab really DID look delicious!) Biggest tip? DO NOT LET THEM SEAT YOU BY THE PAYMENT DESK! It may be the first time in your life that you leave a Yum Cha still hungry.

Yelp
Busy busy busy. I arrived on a Saturday midday and I can guarantee it will be always as busy as it was when I was there. It's an OK yum cha, though the food is fairly standard and a little more expensive than you might want. When you have so many other better options nearby in Haymarket, I'm not sure why you would go here. Having said that, service was attentive in the way that yum cha is (grumpy at worst, no sense of humour at best). Food is fresh and fast. Try the BBQ pork.

Yelp
BIG dining room. Which is always a bonus with yum-cha in the hope that you don't have to wait long to be seated. Visited over the August long-weekend with Dr. Skorpio and M&D. Attempted to skirt the fish market smell and crowd by entering via Pyrmont Bridge road - you know, the entrance that is opposite Wentworth Park. Somewhat fail, it was closed and you had to enter around the corner, in the fish market, which we missed. We ended up going in near the fruit shop and entering up a flight of stairs opposite the Deli - phew. Are you still with me? We arrived around lunch time and had no problems being seated. I think I had very high expectations on what the dishes would be and expected really good prawn dim sums given we were at... the FISH MARKETS. The dim sums were ok. We also had the deep fried squid tentacles (check out yum cha guide.com) and I found they were a bit cold and rubbery, not too fresh. I should have held out for the salt and pepper squid - these looked a lot better. Another dish we tried was the stuffed eggplant. We always used to order this at East Ocean. This version was not bad, good size, and good balance between eggplant and stuffing. So in comparison to other yum cha places like the Marigold in Chinatown, or the Palace in the CBD, this place is ok. The dim sums are fresh and a good size. I DID notice a lot more seafood special dishes like lobster and crab that were being presented on trays by very tall waiters. We also spied some individual peking duck pancakes. We were there for probably only an hour and in that time we found the steamed dim sum selection to be quite small. I didn't see any sticky rice parcels or my favourite, the bean curd skin roll. We also didn't spy any of the fried rice noodles served with peanut butter and hoi-sin sauce. I kept my eye out for the dough wrapped in rice noodles which my friend introduced me to in Toronto - alas, didn't see any of this either. For dessert we had mango pancakes - the lady cut them in half which was super weird and made them very hard to eat. Extra points off for that. We had egg tarts but I didn't taste one - fail! Just as we were about to call it a day, the dou fu fa (tofu fa?) came out which is M&Ds fave, so we had some of that too. For sheer convenience (I live across the road) I know I will be back.

Yelp
Fisherman's Wharf is a Chinese seafood restaurant in the Sydney Fish Market, situated on the second floor of the main marketplace. If you can resist the luring of the glorious seafood outlets downstairs, the yum cha here is one of the best in Sydney.

Yelp
Food was average, our waiter tried hard but the manager was rude, inconsiderate and outright offensive. Would not recommend this restaurant unless you want to be harassed and hassled while you eat.

Yelp
This restaurant is located inside Sydney's Fish Market. Been to this restaurant for lunch where they serve dim sum. The seafood dumplings was fresh and tasty. Good selection of dim sum to choose from. If you sit by the window, you get water view. Service was prompt.
