We went to dinner at Fisher's Upstairs with our Financial Planner and his wife. Our waitress, Lisa Marie, was fabulous. Top notch service. We had fried oysters, gumbo, and the sea scallops for appetizers. We had to order 2 orders of the fried oysters as they were so small. The sea scallops app contained 3. Very skimpy potions. For the entrees, we chose the filet mignon, royal red shrimp, stuffed quail, and another bowl of gumbo. The gumbo came with no bread or crackers. Our financial guy had to ask for bread, which the waitress then brought him one long skinny baguette. I gave him the skinny baguette that came with my royal reds. While the quail and filet mignon dishes were perfectly cooked and top-notch, sizable portions, the "Royal Reds" were basically shelled small normal white shrimp in an herb butter sauce. It was served with the baguette that I gave away. Very small portion ($42 and totally underwhelming), and not Royal Red Shrimp at all. More like a shrimp scampi. I have had Royal Reds at The Point and at Tacky Jacks, and theirs were superb compared to Fishers. Two of use ordered the Cajun Rice as a side and it was very good. Now onto dessert. I cannot find the dessert menu online to refer to the correct names, so bear with me. Our Financial guy's wife ordered the Strawberry Shortcake. Very good, but had a twist of having black pepper in the cake portion and basalmic glaze on the strawberries. A more straight-forward version would have been more palatable. The two men ordered the toasted butter pecan ice cream and were very pleased. I ordered some type of mud-chocolate cake with chocolate pudding (only chocolate-based dessert) and it was very underwhelming as well. The cake was in cubes and hard. The bourbon list was very satisfactory, while the red wine list does not contain a straight-up merlot of any type. I had to ask the waitress what was the closest wine to a merlot, and she steered me toward a malbec-type red. I drank 2 glasses, but not my favorite. Overall, it was a pleasant evening, but the food could have been somewhat better. This is our second trip to this restaurant with our financial planner, but we would not eat here again on our own.
