I'll admit, we originally tried to go to Spud Point, but the line was so long it stretched into the street. We even attempted the spot next door to Spud Point, but the line wasn't moving quickly. Starving after an afternoon hike, we just needed something quick--enter Fishetarian!
We arrived on a Saturday around 2 pm and were relieved to find only three people ahead of us. The line moved quickly, which was a blessing for our growling stomachs. We ordered three fish and chips with sweet potato fries (you can also choose slaw or regular fries). The process was easy: order at the counter, grab a buzzer, and wait for your food. They offer outdoor seating in the front and on both sides, but since it was a chillier day, we opted to sit inside.
The fish and chips were the highlight--absolutely fresh, steaming hot, with a perfectly crunchy breaded coating. Their self-serve sauce station was a bonus, featuring an array of options: OG tartar sauce, Maui spice sauce, cocktail sauce, vinegar, two kinds of hot sauce, and their signature Fishetarian hot sauce, which was my favorite. Pro tip: grab a bottle of the Fishetarian hot sauce from their store before you leave--it's delicious!
Parking is free, but the lot is shared with another restaurant, and it was packed during our visit. Despite the crowd, the staff stayed on top of things, regularly cleaning and wiping down tables, which we appreciated. We also grabbed a $4 blackberry drink to wash everything down. We finished with a $3 cookie that, honestly, wasn't anything to write home about.
In the end, we were happy to have landed here. It hit the spot, the food was fresh, and the service was solid. Ambience was pretty lively on the weekend, but not too loud. If you're in Bodega Bay and want a great alternative to Spud Point without the endless lines, Fishetarian is a fantastic choice!
