Fast-Food Worker Contracts With ‘No-Hire’ Rules Targeted by 11 States | Eater

"Part of a pattern in which franchise agreements include “no-hire”/“no-poach” language preventing employees from working at multiple locations of the chain, thereby limiting wage growth and job mobility for many low-wage workers; these clauses—affecting a significant portion of the fast-food workforce—are drawing legal and regulatory scrutiny." - Daniela Galarza

Google
This store has the worst customer service I’ve seen in a long time. I think the guy in the photo is setting a terrible example and I’d recommend he be fired. 20 minutes it took them to make a burger and fries because this guy wants to stare at floor tiles and text in his phone.

The Illusive Man

Google
Food was delivered in a reasonable time frame, despite them having a large number of customers and orders. The staff was hard at work and they worked quite well as a team. The kitchen didn't seem tense and the food came out to standard. The flavor is good and its filling. I'll admit, the sitting area could be a bit cleaner, but their crowd tends to be sports jockeys, (no offense meant), so its understandable. They don't exactly service the neatest crowd. Still the kitchen area where the food is made looks very well kept even while they cook so I do not have concerns about sanitary issues when it comes to the food. A good food chain, and this particular location is very nice and has been there for sometime, as I would like it to be for some time more. I do recommend stopping by and getting a bite to eat. It is a must try at the very least.

Google
Always love this place. Food is always hot and fresh, fries are plentiful, and this one was super clean and all the team were very friendly.

Google
Super super slow service. Even when it's not busy your order will take forever

Google
Burger bun taste old and hard. Fries very soggy. Horrible service! Disgusting! Never again.

Google
Hands down the best burger you can l can find anywhere! Great Cajun fries too!!

Naria Naria

Google
Horrible. Ordered online, it said ready for pick up. Once there, the guy said it wasn't ready so I waited. I see everyone ordering and leaving before me, while I'm still standing right in front of pick up, and still my online "ready" order, not ready. I felt ignored. The guy literally see's me, and still ignored. A lot of customers that came in after me ordered and left before me. After 30 min of me "patiently waiting" I decided to ask again, and the guy said, "it's not ready yet" what? I only ordered 1 burger and 1 small fry??? Then after 40 min. of waiting, I see the guy grab a bag that's been there the whole entire 40, and hand it to me when fries were done. Whaaat??? I really couldn't believe it. The burger was so cold, bread too soft and mushy. Yuck! This really made me dislike 5 Guys and it was my go to burger spot. No longer my favorite. I'm just digusted.

I have had two wonderful experiences with Isaac in the west Springfield location. He’s a rockstar and deserves a raise!! Tonight Sarah and Passos were amazing. Great job

Yelp
I got he bacon burger with everything except pickles, plus a strawberry shake. The burger was good, it was juicy, messy, and full of flavor. The bacon was crisp and added a nice smoky bite. With all the toppings, each bite had a mix of textures and flavors, from the fresh veggies to the tangy sauces. I opted out for pickles. The bun held up well despite all the toppings. The strawberry shake was thick and creamy with a strong strawberry flavor. It paired perfectly with the burger and basically counted as dessert. Service was quick and friendly, and the food came out hot and fresh. Prices aren't cheap for fast food, but the portions and quality make it feel worth it.

Yelp
Same as before but this time I had it delivered & I got a bacon burger with BBQ sauce, green peppers & onion (freshly ground beef and veggies too) and a large fries (in fact I'm thinking maybe as a snack for the evening. The prices perhaps high is totally worth it because of what you get & how they make sure you're completely satisfied & had a good experience/meal and even if via delivery crew they still see to it what you request is done as you wanted from the start.

Yelp
Food and people inside were great. Problem is it was so hot inside we had to eat in our vehicle. It was hotter in the restaurant than it was outside. Food and service 5 star but building Cleanliness and upkeep a 1 star.

Yelp
Five Guys is my favorite burger and fries spot. It's all they do and they do it well. I'm Celiac so I can't eat the fries in a lot of places. I can eat them at Five Guys b/c there is no cross contamination. It's such a treat and the fries are decadent. And I love, love, love the strawberry milkshake. It's heaven in a cup. The WS Five Guys is clean and the staff is efficient. I asked that they sanitize the milkshake machine so I could have a milkshake, and the cashier didn't even hesitate. Yup, do you want whipped cream? And I watched him - he did clean it. Love it!

Yelp
Got small bacon burger and small fries. They were far from small! Freshly made. The beef was tasty. Lettuce still crispy as well as the bacon. Very convenient to several hotels.

Yelp
I enjoy Five Guys burgers, and this location certainly matched the quality and service I've come to expect from many different locations I've visited. They cook to order, so while there may be a little wait you'll also be getting freshly made food, and you can customize the burgers with a wide variety of toppings to choose from. As is standard procedure at Five Guys, you can get one order of fries for two people (unless you're super hungry) because they give you an overflow of french fries. I think they do a great job cooking those fries, by the way. I was just passing through town on a road trip, so this was my only experience at this location, but the food was good, the service was friendly, and the dining room was pretty clean.

Yelp
Place was in a great location, the staff was very pleasant and our service was quick Food was good as always

Yelp
This place is a train wreck every time I've been here. Can't get their act together, so much confusion which lead to cold food because your food sits on a table while the figure out what's going on. It's obvious the leadership in the store is not there because the people are lost. The store is always kind of dirty and in disarray too. Like I said; the whole thing is a train wreck.

Yelp
RE: Hadley Mass-- Every other five guys I've been to gives you a generous portion of fries--EXCEPT Hadley. The past 4 times I've been they don't even fill the cup--other locations fill the cup + give extra. What gives Hadley? Not going there anymore.

Yelp
My very first time ever eating at Five Guys, but not my husband's or son's. The restaurant has a drive-thru, but my husband chose to order inside and take out. I loveee peanuts and they have roasted peanuts for free. I have a bag full that will last me forever. I am not a burger eater, so I got the little cheeseburger with fries and a lemonade. I had extra mayonnaise and ketchup. My son ordered a little cheese burger, fries and a Oreo milk shake with extra pickles. My husband ordered a bacon cheese burger, fries and a sweet tea and lemonade, mixed. We call that drink a flop at home in Miami, Florida. They do not have combos and really expensive. The burgers are greasy, but delicious. I didn't eat all of my food, but I did enjoy what I did eat. Our order was $45. I almost fell out. LOL! We dine out almost daily, but never been to a burger joint this expensive. If I had to do it all over again, I would order grilled cheese and a vanilla milk shake. I'm glad I had the experience of trying Five Guys.

Yelp
5 guys never disappoints the food is always amazing the staff it's friendly and the French fries are absolutely amazing

Yelp
Good but Expensive! $8 for a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger, $4 fries!? Yikes It's nice when I have a discount with My CC but still
google avatar

Peggy C.

Yelp
What a great burger. I had a single patty cheeseburger with grilled peppers and onions. It was a nice sized beef patty and lots of onions and peppers. The bun wasn't squished and it was actually a picture perfect burger. Also got a cherry milkshake. There was a ton of blended cherries! Plus it was packed with cherry flavor. I did not expect the best shake of my life but it was...ever!! We didn't wait forever either to get our food and the service was top notch. My only complaint was how cold it was, I actually needed a sweater!! Turn up the heat folks, don't like eating in a refrigerator.
google avatar

Kevin F.

Yelp
It should not take 15 minutes to cook an order. And no apology for it taking so long. Get it together folks.
google avatar

Macy W.

Yelp
this had no flavor at all, patty wasn't seasoned, fries weren't seasoned, fries were cold, they do give you a shi ton of fries which are good but i guess you have to buy and eat there because in less than 8 minute drive they were soggy! very disappointed, five guys used to be my go to burger place and still is just not this location.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
Pretty obvious point for those who've been here, but those who haven't....don't come here if you've got a peanut/nut allergy of any kind!! Bags of peanuts are available to patrons while they wait for their order to be ready. Me -- I'm not allergic. Which makes me sad to those who are because damn do I love this place. Burgers, hot dogs, fries, milkshakes, yum. Burgers start around five dollars and change and go up to about 8 and change. All toppings that are put on the burger/dog are free of charge! (Minus the cheese and or bacon). Fries come in three sizes. Small, Regular, and Large. Regular feeds two people, their fries are hand cut and made in store! Portion size is great. My word of advice is to go here on a completely empty stomach or the likelihood of you finishing your meal is slim to none. Drink selection is pretty solid, although today they were out of Cherry Coke so that made me a bit sad. Good amount of tables in the dining area. No picture of my food because I'm always halfway done eating it by the time I remember!
google avatar

Melly M.

Yelp
One of the most efficient locations I've been too!!! Burgers and fries Milkshakes if you have room.

Yeselie M.

Yelp
Food here is good, no concerns. Food came out in a timely manner and I also visit frequently. I would recommend this Five Guys

Kenneth K.

Yelp
Today we were on the annual Post Christmas shopping excursion...promised the 3 kids an outing at Five Guys as their reward for behaving. We pulled into the surprisingly empty parking lot at 1155 only to find the door locked with a sign saying they would be opening late...no time listed. Apparently their posted opening time of 1100 is optional in their minds Of course...the kids were extremely disappointed...lots of tears from the 4 year old twins...they were devastated. Thanks for spoiling their day Five Guys!!!

T R.

Yelp
Shakes are great, fries are outta this world and the burgers are just a larger version of what you get at Wendy's. Seriously, try them. Side by side. They taste the same, just that Five Guys are bigger, that's it. Sorry but sad but true!
google avatar

Walter C.

Yelp
Oh! Oh! I have never been to a bad Five Guys, but I am impressed by this place. The burger it self is great. Seems larger than the ones I get back home. The real difference is the milk shakes. I don't remember them at the one back home, then again it's been a couple of months since I have been there. But the mix-ins make the shake. A banana shake with bacon! All I needed was some peanut butter.
google avatar

Margaret L.

Yelp
A shout out to the folks who make me an amazing payday treat on a regular basis. AND who were kind to me when I accidentally pre-ordered my meal to the wrong store on the 5 guys app. My bad! But you smoothed it over. Thanks!!!
google avatar

Rich Z.

Yelp
I'm not sure I understand why people rave about Five Guys. I found the burgers to be oily and pretty average. I do like that the lettuce, tomato, and pickles I had put on it. Fresh. But this is not a gourmet burger. it's pretty average. I ordered a cheeseburger, and it comes with two patties. I wish there was a smaller option with just one patty. Didn't get any fries, just a drink. Price was high. Almost $10 for a cheeseburger and a drink. The staff was very nice and professional. I give it three stars instead of two because the staff is excellent.
google avatar

Debbie W.

Yelp
Stopped off I-90 for a pit-stop. Needed to get the kids prepped for falling asleep in the car. Bathrooms were clean. Employees were friendly 45 minutes to closing. Ordered a hamburger to go and was daunted by the toppings selection. I will be more prepared next time. Lol

Sarah B.

Yelp
Luke deserves a spot at corporate ( or a raise at very least)! My son had been asking for Five Guys all day. He is 13 and was diagnosed with celiacs disease at 7. Five Guys is the only place he can eat the fries because of the dedicated fryer. Lucky him! They are also the BEST fries around. I ordered him a burger wrapped in lettuce because he gets violently ill if he eats bread. I saw them making the burgers up and saw the lettuce touching a bun. I got Luke's attention and asked ( apologetically) for new lettuce so his hamburger could be celiac safe. Luke insisted on making a new burger, showed a newer employee how to change gloves and wrap the sandwich separately. He handed it to me In a separate bag and told me about his best friend and nephew who are also celiac. Lucas made my life a little better today through his kindness. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
My first experience with Five Guys was not necessarily something to write home, or in this case Yelp*, about. It was just after they'd opened, so to avoid lines I ordered from their website, picked the food up, and drove it home to eat. Everything was a mess. Toppings were smushed. Fries were soft. Stuff was dripping. It just wasn't good. I didn't hold that against them though as the fact that they were new, the weird ordering process, and the longish trip home probably didn't help matters any. So, I vowed, I'd give them another shot. A lot of time passed since then, but recently I was finally able to stop in and see how things are going now that they've settled in. And what a lot a little bit of time and actually eating in the restaurant has done for Five Guys reputation in my circle! This time the burgers were hot, fresh, and flavorful. When we sat down with our food we could really taste the flavor of the beef and the quality of all the various ingredients. This wasn't the messy smash of burger-like accoutrements I'd previously pulled out of my take-out bags. This was great food! Speaking of great and bags; my table shared one large fry which came in a big brown paper bag we ripped open and put in the middle of the table. No limp, listless potatoes were to be found this time! These fries were hot, crisp, salty, and bursting with fresh potato flavor! And it turned out we had more than enough to savor alongside multiple burgers eaten by several patrons! So much so that we actually had leftovers! Now THAT is a LARGE fry if ever I've seen one! Good thing they had Mr. Pibb in the soda fountain to wash 'em down. Thank goodness for second chances!

Yelp
What kind of burger joint doesn't have fries. Staff was rude and lazy. Won't be returning to this Five Guys location.

Alanniss C.

Yelp
Ordered my food at 6:00 pm and received my food 18 minutes later, when I picked up the food from the counter, I received no apology or anything or excuse from anyone. Being a former Five Guys Employee I very well know that this is unacceptable for customers, and the order must go out in 8 minutes. We were order number 2, and Countless order went before us which were 12,13,14 Before we were able to get our order. I understand it gets busy but I've never seen an order go out that long. Especially not prioritizing the number that hasn't even gotten out Before others. If you guys got a secret shop tonight, you guys 100% didn't get it. Burger was a little dry, fries weren't well salted. Kind of expected more from west Springfield.

Yelp
Was pretty hungry and lazy on my first day off in a while. I decided to order Five Guys through GrubHub for the first time in my life, that way I could just stay in and play video games with my boyfriend. Order was simple, self explanatory and FAST. Ordered 2 burgers, Cajun fries (which I was stoked about because like, since when did they have that) Delivery driver was really cool and the burgers were absolutely delicious. Having Five Guys in the comfort of my own home perfected our Apex Legends gaming experience. Thanks guys!
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
i ventured here today for the first time and was very impressed. The place was very clean and all the employees were friendly and enthusiastic. Nice vibe for sure. I got a cheeseburger with everything, "little" french fry order, and a coke. The burger was giant and delicious. Maybe the best I have had in a long time. The 'Little Fry" which cost $1.99 had more french fries than I could eat. They were golden and perfectly cooked and seasoned. Overall I would highly recommend and I will definitely be back. Good job to everyone working here, you are doing a great job !! PS: total bill was $10.77 and I was absolutely stuffed. Not bad at all.

Ladesha B.

Yelp
This is from 5 Guys in Chicopee MA Memorial Drive..The fries are really good. But I was quite disappointed with the grilled cheese
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
I love each and every Five Guys. I've never had a bad or even lackluster experience at one. I've been to In-N-Out in California and found it wanting. Everyone that says Five Guys takes a backseat to that place is wrong, because Five Guys is consistently wonderful. I don't know what their secret is- the recipes don't seem complex, but the flavors just burst out and blast through your mouth. Maybe it's the freshness- everything seems really fresh. The hamburgers are delicious, the shakes are even better, and the fries are overflowing in a grotesque display of american portion sizes. In the good way. My only complaint is that I have to drive 35-40 minutes to get to the closest Five Guys. I live in the "five college area," you'd think a Five Guys out in Hadley or Amherst would clean up. My highest recommendation is to get a peanut butter milkshake while you're there. It's THE zenith of peanut buttery flavor, and I've had 'em all. This is the top of the heap.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Excellent service every time i come in. Burgers are in my top 5 best, and they really hit it out of the park with fries. Look, "Elvis is in the building". Lol.

Yelp
Updating my previous review. We went to Five Guys late last night after other plans fell through. I got the Little Cheeseburger (with pickles, mustard, onion, and jalapenos) and Jamie got the Cheeseburger. We split an order of regular fries, this time we chose to get them "Cajun style", which is just a seasoning sprinkle. Tacking on a drink to share, the total came to around $19, still a little pricey in my opinion. But, Five Guys does put out a better-than-average burger, so in a way, I guess it's justified. My burger came out piping hot again, and the toppings were definitely better than last time. I really could taste the flavor of all the ingredients. The Cajun style fries seemed bottomless! We kept fishing around in the bottom of the bag, finding a handful more. I do really prefer the Cajun seasoning and feel it elevates Five Guys fries above their competitors. The place was hopping for a Sunday evening; many of the other restaurants (and businesses!) in the area had already closed, so Five Guys is definitely sweeping up the competitors' business. We will return, for some delicious monstrosity like a peanut butter, chocolate and bacon milkshake. BRB, getting some statin medications started.

Pamela R.

Yelp
there is never a problem with the food here. great stuff. BUT! the only thing that makes me uneasy coming here is the fact that i felt very uncomfortable by one of the workers. i was with my boyfriend, and as i leave this random worker (male) winks at me and licks his lips. very creepy and TOTALLY unsolicited. makes me weary coming here. i hope i dont see him again.
google avatar

Kaylee A.

Yelp
My review could be a reflection of the fact that I don't eat fast food. So, if you're a burger connoisseur don't let my review affect your decision to try this place. Five guys is exactly like In-n-Out burger in a sit down restaurant style. The burgers don't seem to have anything special than any other burger except for more calories and more grease. The regular size french fries fills an entire brown bag. In general, it's a typical fast food joint with some special "characteristics" that make it five guys, such as the availability of peanuts that one can get up and get while they are waiting for their burgers.
google avatar

Larry J.

Yelp
Had lunch here again this week and it was good again. Had the free peanuts, very good hot dog and also the great French Fries. The staff here is always trying to get your order down right and satisfy you well and they do a good job at that and they are to be commended for their efforts and good attitude. Thank you for being a part of our community and contributing in a positive way. We will be back soon!
google avatar

Jacqueline K.

Yelp
Just stopped in quick - the staff was so friendly, the service was great and I haven't even started eating yet. Kindness is infectious!!
google avatar

Shayla M.

Yelp
Burgers are GREAT, though not the cheapest for how small they are. Also fries are nothing special.
google avatar

Norco B.

Yelp
I'm going to give this 4 stars as the burgers are very good, the place is usually clean, and there is free peanuts. The only real downside is they have an exceptionally limited menu.

Amorette E.

Yelp
Always get the little cheeseburger in a lettuce wrap and I love the way it comes with "full sheets" of lettuce. Other locations sometimes slap loose pieces together which is still delicious but harder to eat :) delicious and gives me my "fast food" fix without feeling like fast food!

Jacob G.

Yelp
Compared to other places, this is the best fast food in our area. Relatively inexpensive and large portions of burger and fries. I recommend this place for everyone!
google avatar

Ted S.

Yelp
You get a lot at reasonable prices. Hot and fast too. I personally can't eat all of this anymore... my heart will explode!! Love it though.

Michael H.

Yelp
Every time I've visited this five guys my food has been very mediocre. The burgers are frequently over cooked and/or super dry. I LOVE Five Guys, but this is one to skip. It's worth the drive to go to the Chicopee one instead.
google avatar

Krystal T.

Yelp
Are there burgers tasty? Sure. Are they worth $5-6? Absolutely not lol I went here for the first time yesterday since it's been open and I was blown away by the astronomical prices. Maybe $5-6 for one burger is a little too much to me and that doesn't even include fries or a drink. TheCajun fries were $3 additional. For 2 burgers and a fry, I ended up spending over 15 bucks which I find to be unreasonable. On top of that, the Cajun fries didn't leave a good impression on me. I was expecting something reminiscent to the fries offered at Arby's but these were nothing like that. These were overpowered by cajun seasoning and to top it off, they seasoned them even more with salt that had the same Cajun seasoning the fries had. This place didn't leave a good impression so the next time, I'm driving down route 5, I'll be sure to pass by this one
google avatar

Yelp
Fab shake! This was the best Ive had at a burger joint in so many years. This throwback to real food is well worth the visit!

Yelp
Good burgers and fires..blah blah blahblah blah blahblahblah blahblah blah just filling in space to post this not sure why i need a certain amount of words.

Yelp
I like 5 guys and I routinely go to Enfield to get it - so i was pleased that my day brought me to West Springfield, MA and that there was a Five Guys there. The burger - small one, with the works - was excellent, as always. Our fries were also good, although not quite as crunchy as I like - could have been the potatoes, could have been the oil - not sure - but certainly edible. My only complaint was the music - Sirius Classic Rewind - which played music that I like, but not the type of music that I like to eat to or carry on a conversation with others in my party. Maybe I'm getting old - but I purchased all 5 of the songs I heard there on vinyl in my youth - It's just that "Back in Black" and "I Want You to Want Me" is a little distracting when played too loudly. Eat here. It is fine.
google avatar

D William R.

Yelp
As others have said Five Guys is what a burger place should be. Everything from the burgers to the toppings, to the fries are prepared fresh when place your order.
