Staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Monterey Park, I pondered a refreshing cocktail sounded like it'd hit the spot. Five55 is the Courtyard's resident upscale sports bar & restaurant, and being within Five55's Happy Hour time slot, I made my way over for a tipple.

Iwai Japanese whiskey Old Fashioned-

Cold & refreshing. Just what I was looking for. I'm a newcomer to Japanese whiskey, and I quite enjoyed the flavor. It was bit of a bummer Five55's Old Fashioned didn't come garnished with a cherry. That last bite of cherry to end an Old Fashioned is literally "the cherry on top".
Five55 smashburger-

Initially set on strictly a cocktail, watching the TNF Raiders/Rams game made
me want to stay a little longer & order a burger. I ordered Five55's signature smashburger lettuce-wrapped. It was quite good! The caramelized onion, house spread & pickles made the flavors pop with each bite. The smashburger comes with fries, but I had a Caesar side salad subbed in it's place. Great idea! Enough for a small meal, the salad was crisp & fresh, and I didn't weigh myself down with carbs.

Service was okay. It seemed to take longer than it should have for my drink, food, the bill & receipt, considering the amount of customers at the time. Parking is validated for customers.
Five55 is a solid Happy Hour food & drink option in Monterey Park. Their smashburger & Old Fashioned satisfied. Minor adjustments, such as adding a cherry to their Japanese Iwai Old Fashioned & improving wait time for orders/bill, would greatly enhance the overall experience.
