FKN Bread

We stopped by this bakery right before heading into The Mission. FKN are initials of their sons. I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in. From the outside, I thought it was bigger but it’s a cute tiny little grab and go place. Each of the pastries are on display. Then I noticed this bakery specializes in everything sourdough which is my least favorite bread. We got ham and cheese sourdough croissant and chocolate sourdough croissant. Even though I’m not a fan of sourdough, it wasn’t tastable in the ham and cheese but very noticeable in the dark chocolate croissant. Had the sour salty flavor. It’s a matter of preference and sourdough is just not for me. I also wished they could have offered to heat it up. Instead it was cold and hard. They sell fresh baked loaves and we were told they sell out quickly.

I just found out that FKN Bread has sourdough croissants and I'm in Heaven! I got the almond croissant and it was so delicious. So flaky and buttery and perfect. I'll definitely be going back here to try their sourdough cinnamon roll. If you love sourdough and live anywhere within driving distance of FKN, be sure to go! But make sure you check the hours bc they are closed on Mon and only open til 4 Tue-Sun

The sourdough baklava pistachio paste croissant ("waSOH", lol) is the best real croissant I've had since Layercake in Irvine, CA before they changed their vendor around 2014. The closest in OC has been Cream Pan in Tustin, CA, but no match for the flaky, crunchy yet soft sound, texture, and taste of the FKN Bread example. It's basically like the one I had in France over 20 years ago. I'm kinda wishing I lived closer so I could have it a little more often! Update: The "regular" sourdough croissant was just as amazing, so it wasn't the flavoring that did it. It's the bread. Very hard to do so many kudos!! Please never change the recipe. If the market ever demands a crappy crescent from you, so be it, but please never take away this absolute ambrosian delicacy from the menu even if you only end up making a small amount each day, and please label them accordingly 😊 2025-05-29 On a revisit, I managed to get more photos and a video of the sound of the croissant. Delicious as ever, or at least within 0.1 to 0.2 stars of a 5!

visited at 9am on a weekday and had great selection. Grabbed a pastry and since there was no seating, ate at a nearby park 3 min walk away. The sourdough made the pastry slightly dense and not too sweet. I liked it.

Stopped inside for my first visit here. I saw a lot of people nearby walking around carrying their bread bags, and thought it should be good… Ordered the cranberry walnut sourdough bread. The bread tastes delicious! Amazing! This is a cute little shop in the heart of downtown San Juan Capistrano.

I tried the classic sourdough from here and it was pretty fire. They couldn’t slice it for me since it was too fresh out of the oven so I did it myself at home. Didn’t come out perfectly, but i could still cut through the best I could. I would come back and want to try the jalapeño cheese!

We love FKN Bread!! Yes a slice of sourdough with banana PB and honey is definitely easy to make at home BUT on FKN sourdough bread it’s an even yummier treat. The Italian sandwich is also the bomb. We decided to take home pizza dough that’s ready to go and comes with very easy instructions… our homemade pizza was delicious❤️

This was more like a cake? Super friendly. We walked out and said wow everyone is having a great day !

The last time I was in SJC, I saw FKN and wanted to try it, but since the line was so long I decided not to. During my visit this week, I was waiting for my takeaway order from Breezy and saw that there was no line so I headed over. They have a nice selection of pastries, sandwiches, and loaves of beautiful breads! I was curious that their croissants are sourdough based, so I decided to purchase a couple to try. And of course I couldn't resist passing on their scone and coffee cake! Their chocolate cinnamon bread peaked my interest as well. The employee said it makes a great french toast, so I decided to give it a try. Everything I tried was great. I loved that the scone was like a biscuit - buttery and crispy on the bottom. The chocolate cinnamon bread had chocolate folded throughout the loaf, but I didn't really taste the cinnamon. It's a sourdough bread, so you can taste the tang of the sourdough with the chocolate which makes for an interesting flavor, but I enjoyed a slice of it toasted and topped with some peanut butter, blueberries, and honey. I also used it to make french toast and it was good as well, although I prefer a softer type of bread for my french toast personally. It's a generous sized loaf so I sliced half of it into smaller slices and stuck it in the freezer to enjoy later!

Was walking around town and came by this little place. I mean, who doesn't love bread/bakery. The lobby area is small but the selection of baked goods is nice. They even have sourdough cookies. We went with a baklava roll & 2 loafs of jalapeño & cheddar bread. The baklava was different and delicious. The bread was perfect. We did grilled cheese sandwiches & egg sandwiches. Was a tad pricy for me but you pay for what you get. Service was good. Staff were pleasant.

Hands on the table, I've not been here but I have tried their bread one hungry afternoon wandering around a friend's kitchen when someone stuffed this tangy bouncy sourdough right in my talking trap. 'This bread is SO GOOD!' Was the last thing I heard before disappearing into my thoughts on what it would take for me to make something like this. I feel like $12 isn't enough for a loaf as perfect and gorgeous as this. But I also wouldn't be able to afford something so... thoroughly made with what one could only imagine as a very well cared for mother starter. The grand pumba-sourdough bubblies. As someone gifted with little patience, 'time-tarded'ness, classic ADHD, it's near impossible to carry on feeding and caring for these micro-organisms. Cacti have died on my watch. The hydration level in this bread is perfect. Spongy and moist on the inside with plenty of air pockets, flavorful spiced crust and beautiful patterns scored. Any baker or failed patissier *ahem** would appreciate even just a slice of this unbuttered bread. If I made something this grand, I wouldn't know whether to frame it or cast it! Let along selling it for less than what the work is worth. Baking is not easy if you've ever tasted perfection.

Best bread ever! I would never have considered paying what they charge for bread except it is really good freaking bread! Worth every penny! My only complaint is that they run out of almond croissants too fast. I can't get there before noon...Which makes me sad. Every piece of bread is so well crafted!

For just $12, you can enjoy a loaf of truly amazing bread. Their offerings include Cranberry Walnut, Italian Parmesan, Rosemary Garlic, Classic Sourdough, and various other flavors. Additionally, they offer a selection of pastries such as cookies, muffins, and croissants, although I haven't had the chance to try them myself. Jalapeno Cheddar, which boasts a beautiful appearance and features a delightful cross-section of jalapeno pepper and generous chunks of cheese. The Rosemary Garlic bread is also delicious, whether enjoyed on its own or toasted with butter, or dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Free street parking; otherwise, park in the paid lots across the street from the bakery.

Very different bread items. I ordered a garlic Parmesan scone it was yummy. My friend ordered a baklava croissant and a dark chocolate salted croissant to take home

So the sandwiches (we got a CA turkey) and cookies were delicious!!! The service was ok...it was walk up and order so no real opportunity to experience the service. The front of the bakery is really small and not much space to wait. The back of the bakery was open and you can see employees making bread etc. It's a nice quick stop if you're in the area.

This place is a slice of heaven. I'm located in north county san diego and have still managed to go twice. Ive enjoyed their sandwiches and bread. Im still on the hunt for a local bakery closer to me with this quality of bread. Their pastries are divine - anyone that complains about pricing doesnt understand the "made from scratch" concept compared to an industrial kitchen where the quality goes down. I am happy to pay the price for all their treats and look forward to the next time Im in the area to buy more!! The service is great, and its a bakery so while there isnt much seating inside san juan is a cute place to eat at one of the benches along the sidewalk. I would say the only pastry I had that was my least fav was the cinnamon roll, once i applied the icing it was still pretty dry.

As we were going in to Breezy, I spotted this store, and the name immediately caught my attention and curiosity. I just had to try it! Unfortunately, I came in 15 minutes before they were closing, and no longer had any pastries or loaf of bread available. Luckily, they still had some cookies left. So, I got the highly recommended "DEATH BY CHOCOLATE", and "OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP". The Death By Chocolate was incredibly delicious! I warmed it up in the microwave for 20 seconds when I got home, and it came out perfectly warm, moist, and oozing with chocolate lava! My son and I immediately devoured the three I got in seconds! WOW! It was amazing! My husband took the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, and liked it as well. Overall, I will definitely be back to get more of their awesome FKN bread and cookies! FYI: FKN stands for the owner's kids' initials, Finn, Kane, and Nash.

Ok - why have I not been here sooner? I'm obsessed with their pastries. It's right across Heritage BBQ so if you're waiting in line for bbq, you or a friend can cross the street to grab some goodies while you wait. Their toffee cookie is amazing and not as sweet as I thought it would be. The texture of the cookie has a perfect chew to it as well. I thought it was cool that they had a baklava croissant - which was flaky and hits the spot. I also loved the dark chocolate croissant as well. I really wanted to try their cinnamon rolls, but it looks like they were already out. It's a super cute little store. I would be ordering from here again!

Awesome name and great pastries! I grabbed a couple toffee sourdough cookies which were so soft and smooth. I picked up a chocolate croissant and a baklava croissant. The croissants were soft and flakey. Definitely want to come back to try their cinnamon rolls too.

This might be our favorite bakery in all of California. Anytime we travel to SJC we'll stop by at least once if not twice! Named after their 3 kids, they started as a small home business during the pandemic and bloomed into this amazing business. The reason why we sometimes go twice is you really need to try some of their bread fresh from the oven. And once you've done that, you'll still probably want to take something home. Don't be shy in trying something as simple as a piece of toast, but also dive into the glass case of goods when you first walk in. The cookies are out of this world as is pretty much everything else. Even the more basic looking items are worth trying. Rotate through each time you go and try something new. You won't regret it.

Holy FKN Bread!! This place is FKN amazing!! Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and we ended up with a Cheddar Jalapeño Bread and when I say this is the tastiest, freshest , crustiest FKN bread I've ever had I am not exaggerating it is so FKN good!! We also ordered a croissant and a Death by Chocolate cookie all were delicious. Their packaging is also simple yet esthetically very cool. Customer service was on point as well.I look forward to coming back again to try all their FKN breads and baked goods!! Come FKN check them out!!

Some of the best cookies in Orange County you will find. If you are in the area, definitely pop in for a visit. My first time having sourdough cookies and I was blown away at how amazing they were.

What a gem! I put my name down at Breezy and had to wait. I walk across the street and see FKN Bread and wanted to check out the fresh bakery. Boy am I glad that I did. They had a large $4 honey biscuit, the last one, so I tried it. It was life changing. The bottom was crunchy but the inside was soft and just so fresh and delicious with honey on top, it was the perfect blend of tastes. Staff were so nice and the bakery is relatively small with only outdoor dining.

I've been lucky enough to score a quick pastry here before, but today we got a cranberry walnut loaf to go and holy hell the two of us almost finished it already! I can see why this place regularly sells out, great bread and friendly folks.

Sitting in the heart of downtown San Juan Capistrano is FKN Bread; a delicious bakery with a brilliant eye-catching name (it's the first letter of the owner's three kids' names... I know, it's not what I thought it stood for either). I kept seeing this pop up on Yelp, after seeing all the positive reviews, I felt like it was time to drop by and check it out. THE FOODS | Bread loaves, pastries, cookies, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads. Pizzas are only served on Mondays. We feasted on... - Chocolate Croissant | Crispy & flakey on the outside; buttery softness filled with chocolate on the inside. Delicious and sweet. - Almond Croissant | Filled with almond cream (frangipane), topped with almonds and powdered sugar. Really enjoyable with a cup of coffee. - Classic Sourdough Bread Loaf | The exterior is firm and crunchy, while the interior is soft with a slight elasticity as you pull the bread apart. We ate this as is, sometimes toasted with butter, and baked in the oven with garlic spread. In all cases, the bread was amazing. Side note, every time we'd slice a few pieces of bread, we'd ask, "do you want some FKN bread?" It was hilarious, you had to be there. THE FKN BREAD FEELS | Sort of an "order and pick up" deal at this place. There isn't any seating inside nor outside. A couple of display cases with pastries fill up the counter area. An expansive space towards the back is used for baking bread, pastries, and preparing sandwiches/pizzas. It feels like you walked into a big kitchen with bread smells emanating in the air. THE PARKING SITUATION | If you're lucky enough, there's street parking in front of FKN Bread. For those who aren't so lucky, there is a surface lot across the street (behind Heritage Barbecue) with pay stations. Parking is $2/hour, 4 hours max. A little further down, there's also a parking structure (26732 Verdugo St.) and parking at the basement has slightly different parameters from the other floors. - Parking Spaces 35 to 108 (Basement Level). All-Day Public Parking (Metered). Seven days a week. $2 hourly parking or $12 all-day parking. $2 all-day parking if parked before 10 a.m. Pay first by space number at pay station. Another option is ordering through their website for delivery or pick up.

Do you love a fluffy croissant? They got 'em. Do you want a sourdough variety but less tang? It's here but it'll cost you. Did you come for homemade cookies? Look elsewhere--little flavor in the oatmeal cchip, thumbprint, and death by chocolate? It is not. The service was chipper and chill and the bread was warm when we ordered at 8:15 am. I still wonder about the bars tho.

The great COVID lock-in of 2020 is over. And admit it, you haven't baked a sourdough loaf since. But those piping hot loaves coming out of your oven were the bees knees and the highlight of weekday afternoons for your family. Now what? FKN, that's what! FKN (eff-kay-nnn, named after the owner's kids' initials) Bread is all about the sourdough. Large sourdough loaves for $12.99 that could feed two families or maybe a small village. Loaves that must weigh close to 5 lbs. They are hefty round puppies. Sourdough Round Loaves: Classic Italian Parmesan Everything (like the bagel) Cranberry Walnut Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Jalapeno Cheddar Kalamata Olive The day I went they were out of the Kalamata Olive so I went with the Jalapeno Cheddar. The cut a cross in the middle and stuff it with Cheddar Cheese and Jalapeno slices to where it bubbles out the middle. As impressive as it looks, after cutting into it at home, I do wish there was a little more cheese that made it into the bread. It is center heavy so the portion of the break that is close to the edges doesn't have much cheese coverage. The sourdough is good, is dense and has a good tang to it. Jalapeno Cheddar is their best seller. Next time I want to try the Olive or the Everything. I also got a couple of cookies. The Brown Butter Sea Salt Toffee ($2.50) is a rich, buttery chocolate chip cookie for when you want to splurge on yourself. I was even more impressed with the Sourdough Almond Butter cookie ($2.50) where I could smell the almond smell before I even bit in. The almond flavor was all over the cookie, which I loved because some almond baked goods are a little too faint with the almond flavor. Not this cookie. There are also almond slices folded into throughout. The have about a half dozen other cookie flavors, plain croissants, jalapeno cheddar scones and a $14 Pumpkin Loaf that looked very tempting if I was a pumpkin fan (I'm not). FKN is right across the street from the entrance to Mission San Juan. It operates from the old We Olive location.

We picked up some of this sourdough bread at the Mission Viejo Farmers Market a couple weeks ago. It is HEAVENLY!!!! So delicious! The gal at the Farmers Market was very nice, and explained all the options to us of what she had. My mom and I split a loaf, and we both fell in love with it. We will be back for more, for sure!

I have driven past this shop a few times over the past couple of years and was finally able to stop in for my first and probably last time. I purchased a Parmesan boule loaf, and it is tasty. The bread is worth the splurge and I do recommend it based on this purchase. Unfortunately, they do not offer the very basic service of bread slicing. The lack of this service coupled with not living quite locally means it's not worth it to return if I'm in the area again. Please rethink offering a bread slicing option to your customers.

Best family, best bread, best everything! My favorite is the everything loaf, the cinnamon rolls are to die for. Just get it all!

This bakery is amazing and addictive. I am hoping they will expand beyond San Juan Capistrano and open several So OC locations because their bake goods are indescribably delicious. The sourdough bread (multiple flavors) are given to you piping hot and soft and full of flavor. Their other bake goods are out of this world. I think about their food weekly and it is making me want to live next door! Seriously, open other locations! This little store won't be able to handle the business it attracts

Did you know FKN Bread makes sandwiches with their delicious bread too?! Each sandwich is made to order with the freshest ingredients! I first asked Stephanie, the wonderful employee who helped me with my top picks that morning, which sandwich was HER favorite. She replied, "The Turkey Sandwich for sure!" So that sealed the deal for me and I was excited to have my first bite! The ingredients were so fresh! I could taste each power play as munched away -- the arugula, avocados, turkey slices, and pepper jack cheese. YUM! I walked around to find a spot to enjoy my sandwich and found El Cafe Real across the street. They had a beautiful outdoor seating area and a variety of drinks available, so I popped in and ordered the Rose Latte -- as recommended from the cashier. Delicious! Sweet but not too sweet, and flavorful but not too strong for a sporadic coffee drinker. The perfect combo for an early brunch!

Just discovered this place and I am finding myself craving their baked goods every week. Their bread and cookies here are absolutely delicious! They have pastries as well but I mainly come here for the bread and soft chewy cookies. I especially love that their cookies aren't that sweet. They're next door to Bloom Restaurant & Bar, which is also a great spot for brunch. I come here after for baked goodies. The employees are always sweet and helpful.

Wonderful rosemary garlic sourdough loaf and a nice selection of pastries. The loaf came out warm and ready to eat as is. So flavorful and no need for embellishments beyond olive oil.

i got the plain sourdough bread on three occasions. each time the bread was nice on the outside and just under the crust, but underbaked and mushy in the center.

It's not just FKN Bread, it's very good FKN Bread. We had to come here because of the name after just having Ramen Shack; I'm very happy that we did. I got the Sourdough Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin - It does not contain any type of nut in it which surprised me because the banana muffins I have gotten usually have some type of nut in it. I didn't mind that at all. Banana flavor was there and the chocolate was nice and gooey. A pretty dense muffin but very good. Death by Chocolate - This cookie was great too, it's moist and on the inside it is very gooey too. Cinnamon Bun w/ frosting - I had only taken a small bite but from what I had tried, the frosting stood out to me. It was really good and not too heavy, and the flavor of it was citrusy.

Love the bread but could think of a more clever name. It is expensive, but it's super fresh and goes a long way. The service is counter style, but the staff is friendly and so helpful. I love the large round loaves which are hard to find when making clam chowder soup or dips that need substantial loaf for filling. We have only purchased bread and taken it elsewhere, but the bakery is clean and inviting. It is well located with plenty of parking in the back. I would give it 5 stars if it had a price that is more accessible to the average (or senior) budget.

A friend told me about the bread as he makes the drive from Calabasas just to get some! This may be some of the best sourdough I have ever had. Their croissants are also amazing! Worth the drive.

It's pretty good! It's the closest thing to sf bread I've had down here. The flavor was really nice.

The death by chocolate cookies are fabulous! We stopped in close to closing time and they still had a fair selection, but were understandably sold out of several items. The staff was super friendly and the location is easy to find in San Juan Capistrano near the mission :) Can't wait to return and try a sourdough or olive loaf of bread!

IF YOU LIKE HIGH-SODIUM SANDWICHES, then this place is for you. I'm sorry but this place was completely a let-down. My coworkers rave about how good their sandwiches and they place group orders often for lunch. This was my first time here and I was recommended their tuna. Initial reaction -- the sandwich portion is a decent size and you could probably even eat this for two meals. They have about 5 or 6 sandwiches on their menu and the store had a line when I walked in. The tuna sandwich was by far the saltiest sandwich I've ever taken a bite out of it. To be honest, I would even say that it was inedible. I couldn't finish the second half of it and gave it to my coworker to eat. She said that the sandwich was saltier than usual and she definitely couldn't eat it without water. Secondly, the service. The girl at the counter was sweet but didn't double check that we had a drink on the receipt, even after I had asked her. This is not her fault, but just poor training by management. The sandwich receipt was what was stapled on the bag initially so she was only seeing that. Due to this oversight, I had to drive back just to pick up a beverage because this business doesn't have any phone number listed anywhere. This is extremely disappointed and I will never be back.

Our favorite local bakery for sourdough bread and sourdough cookies! Also love the lavender lemon dream bar! Highly recommend!! A gem in historic downtown San Juan Capistrano. Everything is so delicious I typically forget to snap photos of the food before eating it all up!

Cinnamon Roll - 3/5 : I've heard wonderful things about it and so I had to try it. But the best part was the icing. The cinnamon roll itself was mediocre. The outside of it was a little hard even after putting it in the microwave to warm. Coffee - 2/5 : their coffee just didn't do it for me. It was a little too tangy/sour in my opinion. Not much to say about it other than it just wasn't for me. Customer Service - 5/5 : would come back to try other things because their customer service is A1! The girl at the register was super nice and warm! Everyone there honestly was really friendly. I'll have to come back earlier in the morning so they aren't fresh out of goods! Until next time :)

Excellent bakery. Sourdough loafs are genius. As are the sourdough?? cookies! Yep. Try them.

Terrific staff, and some out of this world delights! Have tried the chocolate chip cinnamon sourdough, classic sourdough and Italian parmesan loaves - all winners!! The sourdough cinnamon roll with orange cream cheese frosting was decent, but not my favorite. The orange cream cheese paired nicer with the blueberry scone, but the texture of the scone was different from how I like my scones. The loaves of bread are enough to make me return, but then I had the sea salt chocolate croissant - there was chocolate in every bite, and the croissant was soft, pillowy goodness! I'm looking forward to trying their other baked goods - they have brownies, cookies, bread pudding and muffins - as well as their sandwiches.

Firing five stars on two items: Jalapeno Cheese Sourdough - which is chewy awesomeness in a huge loaf - the starter here is deeper than the milder SFO style, and they're getting a great crust that is not overly hard-cracked, nor squishy-soft. Even with the massive loaf sizes, the air pocket density is really even, and no caverns. Brianna did mention that if you want to slice them immediately (like slicing the same day at home), you're better off saving a bit ($7 versus $12) and getting a day-old loaf instead. It takes a day for the left-over moisture to evaporate, and unless you're just tearing hunks out of a round, the extra 24 hours give you a more decent sliceable texture. No. 2 was the Everything Scones (these pastries are also served at the nearby Tea House on Los Rios) - compared with more biscuity British scones, these are slightly spongy and chewy. They'd make a great toasted bun for sandwiches, along with eating as-is with butter or cream cheese. This was well-worth our train trip from LA.

They bake throughout the day so the bread is always fresh and warm. We got an everything sourdough which was incredible. Unfortunately they don't slice the loafs for you but we were able to slice it at home without any issue.

Finally got the chance to stop by and check out the store. I've been a huge fan of FKN for quite some time, I think this is one of the few things (the amazing sourdough bread, especially the jalapeño cheddar) that helped me during the pandemic. There's a lot of parking available on the street and in lots. The area can get busy especially during the weekend so, if you don't mind walking a block or two, you're good to go. The store itself is not big, it's got two displays of foods that consists of yummy desserts and sandwich fixings. There's a wall of bread that's freshly made and it goes out fast so if you want the jalapeño cheddar (our family's favorite), I recommend going there first thing in the morning. I also love their garlic Rosemary bread. These breads are gigantic and so worth it. I love making avo toasts with the rosemary garlic and little garlic toasts or pizza toasts with the jalapeño cheddar. The sandwiches are legit, the quality of the meats and cheese are phenomenal. I got the Turkey sandwich and it comes with avocado too. I ordered a coffee as well which was pretty good to my surprise. Service was great, everyone was friendly even though the place was super busy. P.S. you can try their epic cornbread at Heritage, which is basically kitty corner from the store.

Best bread around. By a mile. Love to snag a 'day old' loaf for a discount. Service is super friendly.
