Flake - Review - Venice - The Infatuation

"This breakfast sandwich is so beloved that Flake gave it its own special name and mural. The “Super Cro-Jo,” as it’s called, is unmistakable. It’s a warm, toasty croissant that’s snuggly compressing its fillings of spicy aioli, crispy bacon, tomato, airy scrambled eggs, gouda, and a generous half-inch layer of greens - in that order. While greens and tomato slices aren’t typically thought of as breakfast sandwich toppings, their juicy freshness is absolutely essential here to cut through the fat, salt, and carbs. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
If you’re looking for an epic breakfast sandwich, look no further than FLAKE in Venice. Please order the Super Crojo: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, smoked Gouda cheese, tomato, greens and a secret sauce on a toasted croissant. It is perfection. It cannot be outdone. There’s a nice seating area outside, but limited tables so be ready to take your sandwich on the go!

Google
I had The Fatty at Flake, and it was absolutely amazing! Hands down the best turkey croissant I’ve ever had, and the secret sauce took it to another level. This was my third visit within two weeks, and they never disappoint. Highly recommend trying it if you’re in the area.

Google
Well priced for LA, the ninja Acai bowl and yoghurt bowl were nice, just basic but done good enough. The burrito was nice but would be better with other ingredients asides just egg and meat. For the Acai I recommend having it less frozen so that it is easier to eat, rather than fight it with the spoon. Staff were lovely and we sat outside it was a nice sitting.

Google
Their service was really chill and had the vibes, the people ordering were really nice since the location is at a really nice spot. I brought my dog and everyone was so friendly and the prices? Yea the prices are really really good. I got their bacon breakfast burrito and as good as the prices were the burrito was better. I think this is my go to breakfast burrito place now

Google
Surprisingly decent, surprisingly expensive. When I pay over $25 for a sandwich and my taste buds kind of disengage. Good sandwich. Bit messy. One of those - napkin after each bite types. Again, solid sandwich just too much. One and done.

Google
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL. I have been here 4-5 times a week for the past 3 years, and one thing I can say Flake is the most consistent place you can find to eat. Quality, portions have never changed. People here are lovely and so welcoming! My go to is the FATTY (get it on a croissant and extra crispy🤌🏼) and I’d recommend the breakwater bagel too! 10/10

Google
Flake in Venice is my absolute favorite! Their “Rad Muffin” with scrambled eggs, Black Forest ham, American cheese, and that incredible secret sauce is a flavor bomb. Plus, their low-fat vanilla yogurt with organic granola and fresh fruit is just perfect. Sure, there’s usually a line, but it’s absolutely worth the wait for a breakfast this good!

Google
1st time trying Venice Flake, I enjoyed the kind service and Matt was kind enough to provide my dog with a water bowl. 10/10 recommend. I enjoyed the secret sauce on the fatty!

Yelp
Cute little breakfast nook to grab a sandwich or a coffee after a yoga or beach workout class. I like the outdoor seating. It was a warm and cozy day to sit out in the sun despite it being the beginning of January. Welcome to California... specifically Southern California! :)

Yelp
Some things are more difficult to customize online for example a coffee with a shot of espresso (my pops wanted this) so it was easier on the phone. Staff was friendly. The turkey sausage burrito was super juicy and yummy. Croissant sandwiches were good too. Parking was super easy as we went there right when the opened on a weekday. Prices were reasonable.

Yelp
Leaned over to my wife letting her know I'm writing a review on Flake (a month late) and she responds, "OH YEAH, THAT PLACE WAS SO GOOD!!!". So there you have it! Very yummy food, cute vibe, friendly service. She'd certainly go back and so would I!

Yelp
Not bad of a place at all! I was in the area trying to kill time before a meeting in Santa Monica. I got there early due to the infamous traffic. This managed for me to have an amazing breakfast! Location is just the corner within the neighborhood right before heading to the beach. It's street parking, but at 8:30am on a weekday, it's super easy and got princess parking right at the front. You walk up and there were people trickling in and out. You can tell these are locals because they all had their dogs, they all were talking to each other, asking "where's ___?". It was nice. FOOD - I was TORN between getting a bacon or turkey sausage breakfast burrito. I usually measure how good they are based on bacon, but the local behind me said I MUST get the turkey sausage. I must say, it's delicious! There is no unnecessary fluff on these. Just a simple meat, egg, cheese breakfast burrito. I do wish I got the bacon, but guess I'll just have to come back! Service was friendly, helpful, and reasonably quick! You order inside and they call you to the pick-up window outside. They have a few tables outside to enjoy your food, which I took advantage of. Very delicious and their menu looks good too! I can't wait to come back

Yelp
A very homey and affordable breakfast spot in Venice that serves classic breakfast food (burritos, egg sandwiches, salads and wraps). No indoor seating, with a few tables outside , it's a quick stop to get a hearty and simple breakfast in. The Reggie Veggie is delicious with eggs, cheese, lettuce and breakfast sausage (could've done without the sausage) on a whole wheat toast. It was just what I craved - simple and healthy. After reading reviews, I ordered the banana bread (buttered and toasted), and it was perfect!! Tastes homemade and so moist. Don't skip this!

Yelp
Easy spot for grab and go. Convenient but not revolutionary. The breakfast hits the spot and has no frills

Yelp
Great choice of a breakfast burrito before hitting the beach. Haven't tried anything else. Salsa was good, but not spicy.
google avatar

Yelp
Seriously delicious!! I had rhe Rad Muffin. The ham is so good! Not tough, bland or too salty. Just right! The cheese will literally melt in your mouth. And their secret sauce is the real star. It's a perfect amount of spice. It tastes like chipotle, but I could be wrong. Ordered a bacon burrito. Came with a side of tomatillo sauce. Not spicy, but so good. Just wish it was a little more, I'll make sure to order some extra on the side. Love that they perfectly wrap up your food. And it will stay warm for almost an hour. My husband had to wait for his burrito at home and it didn't need to be reheated. The coffee is great! And the service was fantastic. Very kind and helpful staff! Plenty of seating for a quick bite. I was lucky enough to get a table with some shade. This will be my spot when heading to the beach in the morning. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Great egg burrito for breakfast and one of the best GF banana breads come to Flake. Order online or even call them they actually have people answering their phone. They are accommodating. Don't forget the side of their special sauce and get your banana bread toasted with butter.

Yelp
Finally got to try this spot, Turkey sausage burrito was decent sized and quite filling, though pretty simple - eggs, American cheese, sausage and comes with salsa. I enjoyed the pumpkin spice latte more than the burrito, had more pumpkin than most PSLs, not too sweet and very smooth. Parking was easy on a weekend morning in the neighborhood. Would go back to try the quiche and açaí bowl. They also have online ordering but there was no wait early on the weekend.

Yelp
We just finished running the 5k Venice SM run, and wanted a quick and yummy bite for breakfast. We found parking on the street easily, ordered at the front and got seated at one of the tables along the street. We had a dog in our company and the seating was definitely dog friendly- casual and chill. We ordered breakfast burritos. The order was called out by a server and we went to get our brown paper bags with our food. Turkey sausage burrito was what I had and it was quite good. It tasted like they used Kraft American cheese slices and I personally liked it more because it gave me nostalgia. Flake also opens fairly early in the morning so it's a good place for a quick bite earlier in the day.

Yelp
I am from Las Vegas and came across this place after visiting Santa Monica pier and it was delicious. I ordered the Neptuna Melt, it was the best tuna sandwich I have ever had. Really great food definitely would eat here again. Service was fast too and great customer service.

Yelp
Enjoyed breakfast at Flake! I had seen photos on yelp and it reminded me of a place called The Rumor Mill coffee shop in Mar Vista, which closed years ago. They made a veggie breakfast sandwich just like this one! My husband didn't care for his burrito much but I enjoyed what I ordered and it did remind me of Rumor Mill. Very nice employees. Glad we made the stop by.

Yelp
I love this place. Street parking all around it and you'll see the line for the food as you come down Rose. Food is made fresh and they have a very delicious banana bread! They've got some outside tables as well to enjoy your meal or take it to go to the beach!

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
Food is always so good!! Love the GF banana bread!!! Aaaahhh so delicious!!! We will keep eating here until the end of time!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This little place is great! Prices are good pretty standard, I was surprised at how many options they had. We ordered at the window and sat outside and ate. You know it's good when it comes wrapped in foil. :) Service was quick and friendly. Would for sure come again.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN! I had an English muffin with scrambled egg and cheese. I couldn't taste the cheese at all. When I asked the guy at the register how much a particular pastry was, he replied, "about 5 dollars." I asked if could tell me the actual price, and if I remember correctly, it was $5.95. The outside tables had not been wiped off, so I had to do it myself. Besides all of the above, when I sat down to eat and looked at my receipt, they charged a $.25 "convenience fee"! I asked to speak to the manager about it and asked him what it was for. HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW! "Uh, it might be for the register." I told him it was shady that they didn't tell customers ahead of time. He asked if I wanted the quarter, and I said yes due to the principle of it.
google avatar

Angela Marie M.

Yelp
This place is a vibe! Their burritos are good but a little small for the price in my opinion. But it is in Venice so the prices are expected. I got the turkey sausage burrito which was good! And my friend really like the biggest burrito there. The service was decent and fairly quick. I would come back if I want some breakfast in the area
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
First time ordering here today, got a sausage burrito with avocado & a slice of banana bread. Coworkers got burritos too. Everything was to go. Avocado is $4 extra. They gave me 2 little slices and as soon as I bit into it, I realized it was stringy and gross. You know, those avocados with the weird texture?? YES. It is unacceptable to charge this much only to have it look like this. I tried to power through, but It completely ruined my burrito! It also ruined the entire experience. I've had better burritos elsewhere. Banana bread was super dry! Flake, please do better. This was not a mistake, this was deliberate and someone made the conscious decision to use this horrible avocado on a paying customers order. Because it was to go, and it's INSIDE the burrito... no one will notice, right? Horrible!!!!

Yelp
Really great low key breakfast/brunch spot in Venice. Order at the window and pick up at another window. Wait times are kind of long considering that many locals dig this spot. An eclectic collection of chairs are set up around the corner eatery. Be sure to clear out as soon as you're done eating because it can get busy. We tried the bacon breakfast burrito and the banana açaí bowl. The burrito was really good and hit the spot for me. It didn't contain any hashbrowns or potatoes but it did have a ton of eggs and cheese. Make sure to request hot sauce packets (chalula or tapatio) at the pick up window. The açaí bowl was nothing to write home about but if it's a hot and sunny day and you're craving a bowl, I'm sure it will satisfy your cravings.

Yelp
Food awesome! Service awesome! Mosquitos on packaging or salad? Bummer.... Still ate it but come on it was right on top before even getting to the salad. Just be more aware I guess
google avatar

Lily R.

Yelp
Look no further for the best neighborhood breakfast you're gonna find. Service is quick, servings are huge, food is delicious. It is our Sunday morning staple. Some seating outside, first come first serve get there, early to avoid the line
google avatar

Brian A.

Yelp
Nice staff. Prices are good. Food is crap. No clue why the hell people are willing to wait in a line for anything on the menu. I've had a breakfast burrito that was almost inedible. A breakfast sandwich that was slightly worse. Not to take blame away from their lunch sandwiches, which are nowhere near as good as literally anything you can make at home. Probably because their ingredients are sourced fresh from Costco and the .99 cent store daily. I'd only eat here over 7/11 because I could walk here, but only if everywhere else was closed.
google avatar

Shelley M.

Yelp
The Bacon Burrito was perfect. Friendly staff. I recommend this place for a quick bite and a sidewalk sit. Con: No public restroom.

Carter L.

Yelp
Honestly disappointed in the burrito I received. I got the bacon burrito and I could've saved myself the 10$ and made it myself. The burrito was tiny and just eggs, bacon and mediocre cheese. If you want a real burrito go somewhere else or make it yourself.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I've gone here a couple of times, good vibes and good food. Like to get coffee on the way to work.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Excellent fresh food! Had the Turkey club aka "GiGi's Club" Came with a tasty mixed greens topped with an excellent balsamic vinaigrette. We will be back :) Staff is super nice and friendly They even gave Santino a little snack
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
This is my husband and I's favorite breakfast spot; if we could have it every day we would not say no. I personally LOVE the super crojo and he loves the breakfast burrito. Their portion size is significant and quite filling, taste is mouthwatering, and staff are incredibly sweet.
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
This is the perfect Venice breakfast. It feels like something straight out of Flaked (check it out on Netflix and thank me later.) I grabbed a sandwich here the morning of my last day in Venice and it was the perfect grab-and-go. Get here early - the line gets long.

Diane H.

Yelp
The service was great. But we came for a breakfast burrito but what we got was quite mediocre. Nothing but eggs and sausage and what seemed like craft cheese that turned to liquid.. and it made mine and my boyfriend's stomach feel WRECKED immediately...
google avatar

Esther L.

Yelp
Came by here during a trip over to Venice and the food was delicious! Ordered their breakfast burrito and sandwich and their Spanish latte and would highly recommend. The only con is that there isn't a bathroom! But plenty of tables in front and street parking only around the area.
google avatar

Doug B.

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito, hands down in the area. Tricky parking for pickup, tight sidewalk seating for eating 'in' but highly recommended.
google avatar

Reshonda S.

Yelp
Ohhh, how delicious was my breakfast sandwich, The Fatty - with special sauce, Turkey, avocado, and Gouda cheese (I replaced the original cheese) on a croissant!! One of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever tasted. There's only one other place - in Boston - that has made me want to visit a city again, just to eat the breakfast. The indoor seating is currently closed, therefore, I would recommend you calling before anticipating dining in. This is a very small, quaint restaurant; however, you can taste the quality ingredients at unbeatable prices!! They do not serve any alcoholic beverages, but feel free to stop by the cute little shop next door for a beer. Overall, I loved this little restaurant because of the delicious food and great service! If you're looking for a quick, tasty bite of food - on the go - this is the place for you.
google avatar

Yelp
There's nothing flakey about the excellence of Flake on Rose. This literal hole in the wall breakfast spot is perfect for a quick and tasty pick up. While my whole dining experience at Flake was superb, this eatery deserves five stars from the banana bread alone. Their banana bread can be ordered buttered and warm. I literally devoured the ooey goodness in seconds. They also have a pretty extensive breakfast and coffee menu. I decided to go with The Fatty bagel sandwich: Turkey, Swiss cheese, avocado and their secret sauce. While the storefront doesn't offer any indoor dining, they have a number of patio seats available for eating. Excited to have a number of friends/coworkers who live nearby, making Flake a convenient go-to breakfast spot.
google avatar

Christine V.

Yelp
A wonderfully simple and straightforward breakfast burrito. So much egg-y goodness!! You order at the door and pay, then find a seat somewhere outside on the street along the wall--be prepared for sitting in the sun though as there isn't too much shaded seating options. Then, a server brings out what you ordered in a paper bag. Wasn't the biggest fan of the salsa verde that came with the burrito--a bit raw for my taste. Area also comes with some characters that might entertain you during your meal... just be cautious of them.
google avatar

Camille A.

Yelp
Had Flake for breakfast this morning and it was pretty yummy! My bf ordered the turkey sausage breakfast burrito and he claimed it was the best he's ever had lol. It's pretty simple: turkey sausage, egg, and cheese. I had the bacon and egg breakfast burrito. Both were so simple but actually so delicious. We will be back!
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
This place has got it going on! You may see a line, but don't worry they are hustling in there. And you won't wait too long. Bummer that they didn't have a lot of seating outside, so if you get there when it's busy, you'll have to take it to go. I recommend walking down to the beach! The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because their burritos were missing something, maybe it was a little kick or some crispy hash browns but I was hoping for something and I just didn't get it. It was still AMAZING though. The super crojo was great, I'd probably recommend the regular crojo, if you are dabbling in both a sandwich and burrito. Enjoy this spot. Authentic, hidden gem!
google avatar

Danny L.

Yelp
This neighborhood spot was the perfect place to begin a Saturday at the beach. Parking was a non issue, the dog was included because they have outdoor tables. Order at the corner window and pick out a place to sit. The turnover is quick, we didn't have to wait for our table. (Be prepared! Not every table has shade) I ordered The Fatty - Turkey, Swiss, avo on a plain bagel. It was perfect- softly toasted, not sloppy and delicious!
google avatar

C P.

Yelp
Friendly staff, give you recommendations Fast service. Very popular. Outside seating. Good food.

Yelp
I have been here before for breakfast burritos during covid, but returned in my recent visit to LA this past week. Ordered the big breakfast burrito with rice, beans, pico de gallo, and all the stops that you expect in a burrito. We also got a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese. Lastly, we shared (among 4 people) an acai bowl! One pro tip is to order online! I didn't think to do so given this restaurant is more like a shack, but it saved quite a bit of time in the end. Parking is iffy in this location just because the streets are narrow and lots of things going on around the shops nearby. We were lucky to grab a parking right across the street so we just ran over to pick up the food. While here, my cousin ended up getting a cold brew with oat milk, which totaled to almost $6! Crazy! The food was overall quite flavorful as I recalled the previous time. I believe I had the basic sausage egg and cheese the last time I came and really enjoyed it but this time the burrito was more like a classic burrito over a breakfast burrito. The acai bowl was also delicious, but a bit frozen tasting even after sitting out for close to 30 minutes. I would stick to my previous rating given this wonderful follow-up experience. Check it out for a quick stop if you are close. There is not much parking or seating so there is always the option of taking the food to go and heading to the beach to enjoy.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
You'd think they'd have the decency to invest in a pressure washer and rinse the human urine on around perimeter where they expect you to sit and eat.. Ridiculous... the stench is horrendous
google avatar

Shirley W.

Yelp
Stopping by, I was surprised but also not surprised by how many people lined up for this spot! I ordered online and it said it only took 14 mins in preparation for my order, so I thought there would not be that many people? There's only a few outdoor tables by the side of this shop as well, but this is definitely something you would just grab and go for easy bites. It seemed like the acai bowl was a very popular choice here, so I really wanted to try that! It was just a pretty standard acai bowl, really simple, and the acai was really frozen so it was kind of difficult to eat through. I did like how they had a good amount granola cause I do enjoy the granola more haha. My bf also ordered the bacon breakfast burrito but he was really disappointed with it. We also splitted 'The Fatty' and that one was actually the most tasteful one. It was still okay, but it was definitely better compared to the selection we had. Everything just tasted pretty standard, nothing too special tbh. The portion sizes are also pretty small, except the acai bowl is pretty huge LOL
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick and delicious meal on the go, this is THE PLACE. Great price, made fresh, and quick service. Also has many options for vegetarians like myself. I had the vegetarian sausage breakfast burrito and my boyfriend had the crojo. Also got the banana bread- toasted w/ butter. Everythings was amazing!! We still don't know what a crojo is, but it doesn't even matter! Only downside is there is limited outdoor seating and no bathroom available for patrons. But whatever, it's Venice! Just take a quick walk to have a meal on the beach :)
google avatar

Elaine S.

Yelp
Small corner shop with a few tables lining the sidewalk. There was a line when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon but most took their food to-go. I ordered the Super Crojo, which was amazing. The smoked gouda cheese and whatever was in their secret sauce took this otherwise simple meal to the next level.
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
Good breakfast to go by the beach. Traveling from texas, I had my reservations about la breakfast burritos but it exceeded my expectations. Their salsa is really good!! Even ended up dipping my bf's croissant in it. Ended up fueling us with enough energy to bike back and forth along the beach!
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
- tuna sandwich Matcha - Turkey sandwich Was going to try another breakfast spot in the area, but that spot was too busy. As a result, we stumbled upon Flake - so happy that we did. We got a tuna sandwich, a turkey sandwich and a matcha. All 3 items were fantastic. The sandwiches were decently sized!
google avatar

Leisa T.

Yelp
The customer service was great sorry for the low review. When I pay over $30 for two breakfast sandwiches I expect amazing. Not so much the eggs seemed to be cooked in a microwave. The croissant didn't seem fresh. And by the line of people I expected more. Again the customer service was great
google avatar

Sejla A.

Yelp
Stopped by for breakfast and coffee on a Monday morning. I got the croissant sandwich and loved it! My friend had the vegetarian breakfast burrito which he also enjoyed. The food was filling. I'll definitely be back for breakfast here when I visit Venice again. If it's your first time going to Flake- you order at the front outside, pick up your food outside and there's tables and two benches where you can sit outside to eat. People didn't seem to hang around sitting there too much so I'm sure you'll be able to find a seat. I do wish they had Turkey bacon (but then again I'm not sure how popular that is in California).
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place and I can say that their cro-Jo IS INCREDIBLE!!! Definitely my new favorite go to when I come down to Venice :)) the service and food are amazing as well as their prices! Friendly and welcoming no doubt
