Flame Run

My partner and I came here for one of the “create your own” experiences. We really had a blast! Adam took his time to explain everything, educate us on the art of glass blowing, and helped us create some really unique and fun pieces. Will definitely be back!

We decided to go with a group of girls for my birthday! Adam was our glass works artist and he was being assisted by the talented John! They answered questions, put on a show, and most importantly, made us some really gorgeous bourbon glasses. They even made 2 extras so i could have something to gift my brothers as a surprise! They truly were knowledgeable and clearly loved their craft. I cant wait to see how the finished cooled glasses look. 10/10 would recommend 👌 amazing experience and wonderful people.

Scheduled a private lesson for my teenage nephew. He loved it! Kris was an excellent instructor. She was skilled, attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and patient. My nephew said this was the best part of visiting Louisville. If you ever want to learn how to work with glass, recommend Flame Run!

We had a BLAST! Steven was very informative during the entire process. He and Paul were very nice and professional. We were extremely happy with our pieces. We did the interactive art. They also have classes! I do suggest making an appointment.

This was an amazing trip!! The staff is so friendly and informative. I was soo excited and got to be a part of making a glass pumking, they have a wonderful show room where you can buy all kinds of art and the price range has some things for every budget. From 10$ to 1000$ they have a nice cleane bathroom and a water fountain.

I took my wife and some of her friends for a GIrl's Day out. Adam and John were absolutely awesome for the group and the young woman with red hair and pigtails behind the counter was equally helpful. We were from out of town and I was asking for local food recommendations. She was SPOT ON. We ended up going to J Alexanders afterwards and it was delicious. Thank you guys so much. We will definitely be back.

We have made this an annual family Christmas ornament event. They are so nice, patient and polite. It is so cool to create a glass ornament. The gallery has great local artists displays. We always feel welcome and appreciated.

Was really cool learning and watching my wine glass be created! We made a reservation and chose to make a wine glass and a bourbon glass - you get to pick three colors for $65. The glass needs a 12 hour cooling down process so you can either come back to pick up your item the next day or pay around $20 to ship it to you. This was more of a watch-how-they-make-something versus a hands on experience, but I didn't mind watching the pro make something for me. Overall great experience if you have never seen and learned about the process of glass blowing!

What a fun experience! Glass blowing is truly incredible. I brought my mom and grandma here to make ornaments. We did make reservations which they suggest especially this time of year. We had the best experience with Brohm who took his time to educate us on the entire process. Science is cool for sure! Brohm encouraged us to be creative with our colors and design. We were so pleased with the experience and our final products. This is a great go to place for families or even out of town guests. I would not suggest this place in the heat of summer, I could see how it would be very hot. So many beautiful pieces and talented artists! Well done! Be sure to tip your artist.

Go to Flame Run every year to make a Christmas ornaments. Pick your colors , pattern and they blow you an ornament. Prior to Covid you blew your own. Hope we can get back to that sometime soon. The staff and glassblowers are always wonderful and we have a great time.

We had a lot of fun here! We got to pick our colors and watch someone make them up close! Only giving 4 start because it seemed like we would be more involved in the process but overall it was a good experience! All of the staff we interacted with were great!

My friends and I thought it would be fun to have custom bourbon glasses made while in Louisville so signed up for a session. If you have a large party then you may need to schedule more in advance but they were able to get us in the next day for a group of 3. The experience itself was interesting but due to COVID 19 the bourbon glasses are just a design-your-own experience where they do all the glass work. As a commissioning experience, they didn't really curate a fun design experience as you're walked into the workshop and expected to know what colors and patterns you want without examples or even being told what is possible. Even in the store section there were very few examples of the bourbon glasses to see what would look good. A binder of ideas or sit down design session would have improved the experience. You have no say in the height, width, or weight of your glass which kind of makes you wonder how much design you're actually doing. That said, our glass blower was a cool guy and did his best to explain the process of glass working with us while he worked. It was a little hard to hear over the ventilation fans, however, so we had to crowd in at times which then hampered his and the other staff members' movement so we felt bad and just watched. The glass blowing process was cool since I'd never seen it done in person before and they were able to complete each of our glasses in 30 mins. I liked how my glass turned out although it did develop 2 air bubbles in it and the sides aren't perfectly straight which might irritate people who don't appreciate their custom stuff having slight imperfections. Overall I thought it was an interesting experience but I would probably shell out extra money next time to be more involved in the crafting process or maybe at least have an experience that is more focused on the design experience rather than feeling like I'm just being tolerated as a spectator. I think some of this could be fixed by implementing simple processes like a 5 min design session prior to going into the shop but for now probably wouldn't recommend doing the design-your-own experience here.

This place is SO cool! I went with a women led community group and we had a blast! While we aren't able to assist with the blowing of the glass now, watching it was mesmerizing! They're so precise and quick, and so talented. The gallery is full of incredibly pieces that I was blown away by (get the pun haha). I selected a snowman to be made with red accent (see photo), and it turned out fantastic! The staff were so fun and great to talk to, really knowledgeable of the process and their items. I loved this experience and totally will be going back!

This is NOT a hands on experience. If you want someone to create an item, while you watch, this bis the place for you.

We parked basically next to this building while visiting the Louisville Slugger museum. My wife likes blown glass so so went in for a look. At the back of the gallery they have a large glass wall where you can sit and watch the artisans working. While we were there a family had booked a personal appointment to sit in the factory and watch pieces being made for them. They even got to help with the manufacturing at different points. It is very interesting to watch. The owner saw us and came over to answer questions. They have lots of very interesting things for purchase that are really very beautiful. If we were to be in town again, I think we'd book an appointment to watch up close and participate.

I had the best experience at Flame Run trying out the "Blow Your Own" interactive experience. Right away the staff was incredibly helpful when I booked this activity ahead of time. What was even better was when the staff called us because they were running a bit behind- which we were warned that might be the case ahead of time because of the busy weekend. Not very many businesses take the time to warn you about a potential bump in the road! When we arrived, we watched other groups blowing glass from the observation area. Eric was really personable and told us a bit about the process while we waited. He gave us other great recommendations in the downtown area too! The glassblowing process itself was a lot of fun. Brook was really informative and willing to answer all of our questions! I told him that I have always wanted to try out glassblowing, so he was nice enough to show us behind the scenes even though i was the last appointment of the day. I received my ornament in the mail, just a few days later, in perfect condition! I will be back for sure and I would love to try out lessons in the future.

What an amazing experience!!!!! Flame Run is a great place to visit or in our case to join a corporate event sponsored by UBS. Create your very own glass ornament from beginning to end!!! Highly recommended for corporate events particularly around the Christmas season!!!!

Beautiful studio. Staff graciously scheduled us. However, until we arrived no one mentioned we wouldn't be able to do our own glass blowing because of Covid. You only watch and tell arrest your style preferences. Disappointing. You could upgrade to a $75 option and be apart of maneuvering the glass. All you were to do is bend the glass. I wanted to do so much more. Educational for sure. We were rushed at the end as someone else was waiting their turn. For me it was a interesting experience however I would prefer more hands on for that price.

Super cool experience, just wished I would've gotten to do more! My husband surprised me with a glass blowing experience and I was super excited since I'd recently binge watched the show "Blown Away" on Netflix. You basically get to pick an item that you would like to "blow" or have "blown" such as a stemless wine glass, bourbon glass, ornament, etc. along with 3 colors. I didn't love the color options (basic red, blue, orange, etc) but the glass blowers were super accommodating and allowed me to choose from some more colors they had in the back (birthday charm? ). The two glass blowers we worked with were well informed and answered all my questions about glass blowing (I had a lot of questions!). Definitely would recommend this experience although it is a little pricey.

Had no idea a gem like this place was in downtown! They have a whole bunch of pretty and cool glass to look at. My boyfriend and I picked out some colors and watched them make the pumpkin and the gentleman explained to us what he was doing and why and we both thought that was pretty neat. Would definitely recommend wearing some type of glasses or goggles the heat from the furnace is mighty hot. If your in downtown Louisville looking for something to do this is the spot :)

Because there isn't a glass blowing place in Lexington, I took the the trip up to Louisville from Lexington. Actually met up with a group of about 20 people. Our appointment time was at 1:30 and we were there pretty much all day. We were already aware of that, so we all brought along drinks and snacks. There's also a cafe attached, but it was closed while we were there. Parking was a bit of an issue here, as it is with any downtown Louisville experience. There is a parking lot very close, and it is $6.00. We lucked out and scored a curbside, metered spot and it was free on the weekend. We entered through the blazing studio area and then walked up the stairs and paid in the gallery area. There were many items to purchase, including glass blown Christmas ornaments starting at $20... or you can spend $45 and blow your own ornament. Most of us in the group made a wine glass and or an ornament. The wine glass was $65 and to do both, it was $100. My daughter did both an ornament and a glass, for a package deal for $100. You choose your color options before you pay, they have the colors hanging behind the counter, so that you can see them to make your decision. The price is a bit steep, but I'm sure that the facility, equipment and overall overhead is costly, especially in the prime downtown location. The ornament process was much faster than the wine glass blowing process. I thought that the neat thing with the ornament is that it's a permanent keepsake with her actual breathe in it... that beats all of those handmade ornaments that we add to the tree every year. Yes, I'm sentimental like that. You can choose three colors if you choose the ornament. During the fall and winter are perfect times to go here, because I've heard that it gets toasty in the summer or warmer weather. There are several blazing ovens, that I'm sure has a different name other than ovens, but I don't know the terminology. The day that I was there, there were three different glass artists, one lady helping and one man guiding those of us waiting our turn. The actual glass blowing is indescribable, well it's just one of those things that you have to do at least once. Watching the artist create the glass was amazing and like I said, it was way more involved than the ornament process. All of the artists were nice, but one of them asked me one of the strangest questions ever... and then at the end, he pointed out the tip jar. I felt horrible because I hadn't brought cash or even considered that I would need to tip. We almost dropped $300 for the three of us and gratuity never crossed my mind. So whether or not you're on a budget, keep the tipping part in mind.

I like crafting and trying new things, so when a friend suggest glass blowing on a visit I did some searching and decided on Flame Run as the best option with the best pricing. We made a reservation for the two of us and we were the first 2 people of the day. You get to pick what you want to make so I chose the glass pumpkin and my friend did the tumbler glass and in we went. You'll get safety info and then you are off once you pick your colors. It is not as hands on as I HOPED it would be but it was also exactly what I EXPECTED it to be. The only part you do is blow into a hose, with a cleaned mouthpiece from a safe distance and glass workers do the rest. That being said, it is still SUPER COOL to see the artists working the glass in person. If your glass work breaks before it is completed (off the pole and cooling in chest), don't worry, they will get another one started and made, which is good. My friend's glass broke 3 times before the finished the 4th. Depending on the item you choose, they do differ in difficulty for what the artists have to do. We were able to pick up our pieces the next day and I love my pumpkin and love Flame Run.

I'm a big fan of DIY activities, factory tours, and this general kind of thing. I know that some people like to do their vacations getting sand lost in every crevice in their body while sweating with everyone and their cousin on the beach but I can't do it. I love doing something or learning something and this place (no matter what they're calling it this week) is a great place to do the things. First, while you're making the glass thing the artist helping you talks you through it and explains everything to you. It's pretty interesting and they don't talk to you like you're stupid. This is a rather dangerous activity and things could go terribly wrong at any moment but some how they manage to do this without anyone becoming involved in the sort of catastrophe that earns you super powers in comic books. Second, it's a great experience. We do this once a year as a family to celebrate a family member's December birthday. Those are a bear, you can't get them something tied to Christmas, Hallmarkmas, Chanukah, or whatever it is you celebrate/throw your money at but you do need to do something extraordinary because December is pretty full of things going on. This is perfect. Yeah, we end up making an ornament half the time but this one decorates in snowmen in December so it fits in their life and their glass ball collection is pretty impressive by now. It's a fun thing to do as your family gets older. Third, for what you're doing it's not that expensive. I've done this other places; it is fairly comparable. I'd like more choices of things to make but I realize that we can't always get what we want in that regard. I always miss out on making my own mug when you can do that. If I could get them to change one thing it would be that the website isn't informative or mobile friendly. Getting people on the phone is a bear and they're not near anything to pop in for information. Al Gore worked hard inventing this magical series of tubes where the information super highways about, they should harness that and use it to their advantage. Technology is what makes you Muggles bearable but not if you don't use it.

I had been to GlassWorks several years ago so I was kind of confused when we got to the building and realized it was part GlassWorks, part Flame Run. It doesn't help when the website is under GlassWorks and mentions the walk-in workshops. Not a biggie; we figured it out. I wanted to make a project for my 40th birthday, and the woman there let us come peruse all of the options. Basically, the cost of the item depends on the side. I decided on a tray that started out about 12x4 but will eventually have 3 shallow "dips" in it. With shipping to Indianapolis, the total cost was $65. We were given a lesson on how to cut the glass but, thankfully, they had bins of odds and ends sorted by color gamily, as well as other accessory glass, like pieces that looked like spaghetti, confetti and glitter. While my design was more, ahem, abstract, it was neat to see the other projects waiting to be fired. Some where downright impressive! Most pieces are ready in 2 weeks but, if you need your item shipped, she said to allow at least another week. We were there on a Monday afternoon and had the studio to ourselves. It was a lot easier than I expected and I can't wait to receive my tray!

Ok. Small gift shop. Everything was expensive. We did not take a class. Wish we would have. Looked fun.

My husband and I each took a class to make a project. He made an ornament and I made a pumpkin. It was an amazing experience. They were so friendly and helpful. They did an excellent job explaining the entire process and teaching us about the art of glassblowing. There were so many options to customize your creation with different and layered colors. It was excellent! I will recommend this to anyone. For both of us to make a piece it was just under $100.

We were killing some time in the afternoon in downtown Louisville and stumbled upon this place a little after it opened. We figured there wasn't much going on since they opened about 15 minutes prior, but we were wrong. A group of 4-5 people were working on some glass pieces and it was so great to watch. There was also another guy with us who would let us all know what was going and why they were doing certain things. They had some amazing pieces in the gallery too. If we had more time next time, it would be cool to look into taking one of their "do it yourself" classes.

Located in the Glassworks building. Open for about a year, Flame Run is the new glass blowing gallery located inside the Glassworks building. It is a slightly confusing because Glassworks still owns a small glass shop on the left entrance, however Flame Run now controls all the glass ovens and has their own gallery and shop on the right of the entrance. The good news is that you get two glass shops for one location. I always find the staff helpful and overly talented at their job. Tiffany, one of the mangers of Flame Run was even featured in the Leo! My boyfriend has done small group classes to learn glass blowing and because we live in the apartments upstairs they always allow me to watch. Great group of people and worth the unique experience of checking out glass blown art and maybe a chance to blow some glass yourself! The shop itself is always open for the Downtown Friday Trolley Hop.

When my family visited we did the Blow Your Own Experience. The John team really knew what they were doing! Had such a great time and it's a great place to visit on a rainy day in Downtown Louisville!!! When we made requests (and then changed our minds lol) they were patient and some of the most creative workers in the business! Can't wait to go back and make more!!!

Pretty steep prices, but enjoyable experience. My husband created a bourbon glass, and they were great and allowed the rest of us to watch and cheer him on. The glass artist was friendly and open to any/all questions. Worth seeing at least once.

we had a private after hours glass blowing party. We had a very good time. the staff is awsome. We looked throught the gallery and at the peices already made available for purchase. Then we chose the colors for blowing our own oranaments($40) , or you can blow a vase($100) or bowl($60). Everyone had a good time. They let you bring in your own refreshments. So we had snacks and blew our oranments. they looked so beautiful. Its very hot in the room were the furnace is that you do the glass blowing. I have freinds that saw our post on facebook and now want to do a glass blowing party. i would love to do this again. We found out they even offer classes on glass blowing.

Surprised my lady with a "Blow Your Own" glass-making session for her birthday this past weekend. You have the option to make either a glass ornament ($40) a bowl ($65) or a vase ($100). We elected to go with the vase and couldn't be happier with our decision! After picking your colors and designing the shape of what you want with the artist, they take you through the whole process. Our glass guru, John was very skilled at his craft and was sure to explain every little thing he was doing as the vase took shape. Alex was his assistant and he was also very informative and full of energy. To ensure the best possible piece, they do all the shaping, but the air that blows up the glass is all your own. You are also encouraged to direct them as the glass takes shape so they can give you exactly what you want They are sure to keep you included and engaged which made for a truly awesome experience. Totally coming back to make ornaments during the holidays!

They made us an ornament while sharing the details of the process with us. We got to actually blow the ornament into a ball shape. They had a great inventory of pre made glass in the gallery! Great artist!! Keep up the great work!!
