At this point in time, COVID has completely transformed the landscape of amusement parks, and Disney is no exception. Whereas this used to be a walk-up type of restaurant where you order at the register, it is now one of many restaurants that you have to do mobile ordering for.
If you are unfamiliar with this concept, it means that you have to have the My Disney Experience app on your phone and pre-order the food before you arrive. It will give you a time window during which you pick it up. Even more, you have to tell the restaurant when you are there to get it so that they can start preparing it. The short version of this is that in highly busy times, like Spring Break or holidays, there is a wait coming.
On this particular visit, we did the pre-order, then told them when we arrived to get it that we were there. Then ensued the 30-45 minute wait. The next best part was then wandering around looking for a place to sit. Some of the seating was blocked by employees making sure that only dining customers took the seats. Some was open for all.
I'll talk about the food in a minute, but for now, my advice about the mobile ordering is that you pre-order well in advance and tell them you're there for the food at least 20-30 minutes before you actually intend to get it. You run the risk of the food sitting there and getting cold, but I guess I'd prefer that to myself standing there and getting hot.
Now, was the food worth it? Somewhat. This is one of the better options that's open right now. The food is not epic, but not amazing, and combined with the other things already mentioned, the glow dimmed a bit.
We had the Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Pulled Pork. Sounds like BBQ food, right? It was. That's exactly what it was. It filled the hole and satisfied. Again, not immensely exciting but good and reliable. Assuming the current options at the Animal Kingdom don't change much in the future, this would be on my list of repeatable experiences.
