Google
Flapdoodles is a fun stop for ice cream lovers. I really like their Flapdoodle ice cream which is a bowl of ice cream topped with a cute little waffle piece. They let you try two samples per person which is perfect if you are indecisive. All their chocolate flavors are solid. The decor inside feels pretty ancient and could definitely use a refresh, but regardless I would come back.

Google
Really great ice cream options! Many good flavors to choose from. Definitely worth a visit when staying in Rochester as it's always great to support local businesses!

Google
Oh my gosh this place is good! Great homemade ice cream! I got a waffle cone with one scoop of salty caramel and one scoop of captain jack! 12/10!

Google
Ice cream was great! However we had never been here before and it was an awkward experience to say the least. Several people were eating outside and a few people inside but there was no line. We walk in and there are 5 teens behind the counter working and not one of them smiles, says hello, greets us, asks if we've been there before, or if we would like a sample. We each ordered and then were told "have a nice day" with glares from all 5 teens. Truly awkward and poor customer service. Look up "Gen Z stare" and that'll explain it. Unfortunately many teens have poor social skills and don't understand common courtesy even if they are working in customer service. Would be a better experience if the staff were more friendly. It felt like we were imposing on them but... we're paying to get ice cream from you... Probably won't return again.

Google
Great creamy ice cream! Had a flight to taste lots of flavors! Loved it!

Chris Nehring

Google
The ice cream is absolutely delicious and they have so many amazing flavors. I got the butter brickle and honey lavender, and both were soooooo good! Next time I want to get their salted caramel. Prices are also quite good considering the quality and portion sizes of the food ($6.59 for two large scoops + waffle cone). Best local ice cream!

Google
I’m so glad we stumbled upon this ice cream shop! So many fun flavor options- and the teenagers working there have great attitudes and a ready smile! The kids flapdoodle is the perfect size scoop for an after dinner dessert and comes with a little waffle cone chip on top. The peanut butter chocolate and banana cream pie were both sooooo tasty! The ice cream base is super creamy and there were a lot of yummy goodies mixed in. I wish we lived closer - I’d be a regular for sure!

Google
Flap doodles north has an amazing selection of homemade ice cream. The customer service is always on point and the cherry jubilee is my favorite

Yelp
The food was fantastic. There were many options if you are gluten-free or vegan, the service was kind and fast the room felt like a small ice cream shop.

Yelp
This is the second Flapdoodles I have been to. This one is off exit 58 along Highway 52. It was not busy around noon on a Friday. I sampled malted milk ball and cherry cheese cake. I bought a 2 kids sized scoop of these flavors and sat outside in the sun watching cars drive by. The staff was very nice. The cost was $5.40 with tax. This place has the strawberry or pink ice cream cone statue outside.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream with rich, creamy flavors that hit the spot. There's a wide selection to choose from, with something for everyone, from classic favorites to creative seasonal options. The atmosphere is fun, bright, and spotless, making it a great place to bring family or friends. Staff is friendly and welcoming, and everything feels well cared for and inviting. Whether you're just grabbing a scoop or staying to enjoy the vibe, it's the kind of place you'll want to return to again and again.

Yelp
Great flavors of ice cream. Wide variety, and you can sample! Parking can be tight if the location is busy but the staff is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Oh Flapdoodles, how I wish you were closer. We love your ice cream and your staff. Always friendly and efficient, even when super busy. The hardest part is deciding which flavor. You can combine 2 kid scoops in place of an adult scoop if you have trouble deciding. And upgrade to a waffle cone - they are excellent. It was hard to decide between Rum Cherry, Cookie Monster and Caramel Brownie. Caramel Brownie had just sold out so it narrowed the choices. We even bring a cooler to bring home quarts.

Yelp
Best ice cream in Rochester that's for sure. They let you sample at least two flavors and I am obsessed with coffee flavored ice cream and this one did not disappoint. Super creamy and has nice chunks of chocolate chip. My husband ordered the lemon cheesecake and he enjoyed it a lot as well. I thought that one was okay I think because the lemon was a little icey for me. The value for a double scoop of ice cream is so worth it, I was not expecting them to be such huge scoops. I've also had the cookie monster and cookie dough before and they are a few of our family members favorites.

Yelp
I wasn't looking for ice cream on a snowy day, but had eaten next door. This place looked popular, so went through the drive thru. I got a scoop of the dairy free pumpkin pie. It was amazing and worth every penny. The service was very friendly and efficient. A little hidden gem, just off the highway.

Yelp
I had flapdoodles 12 years ago when I was last in Rochester. I returned here immediately upon getting to Rochester. This place is iconic for a reason. The flavors are unique and delicious. I've never had anything I didn't love here.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream - 5 stars! I have a particular fondness for ice cream shops that make their own premium ice cream in-house - like Flapdoodles. They don't sell any of that cheap factory ice cream like Kemps or Cedar Crest. Of course, I love almost any ice cream. But you can't beat a place with a creamery that whips up flavor masterpieces in the back kitchen! Flapdoodles has a couple of small coolers by the front counter, beverages in one and ice cream to-go in the other. They have pints and full-size ice cream cakes. There's also a drive-through window if you don't feel like going inside. I like the vibe of Flapdoodles. The whole place is bright and colorful. Everyone was really friendly and seemed like they were having fun. The customers were all cheery too. And why wouldn't you be cheery? Handmade ice cream on a hot 80 degree summer day! Finally, I have to mention that Flapdoodles has one of the biggest ice cream cones in Minnesota! They have a giant one outside - cool! Thumbs up! -Maxx

Yelp
Huge ice cream selection. Both tried the two adult scoop boat with waffle sails. Excellent. Great value for under $6 Hard to finish. Will get kid scoops next time.

Yelp
It's going to be hard to write enough words since only 2 are needed. GREAT ICE CREAM!!!

Yelp
Stopped by with some family late at night and loved how cozy it felt in here. There were a lot of good and creative options, and I was really happy with the chocolate peanut butter and the salted caramel! I had no idea the double scoop was gonna be that big but definitely worth it LOL. The employees handled the 9 of us really well, service was great. Really cute spot to go with friends and family!

Yelp
Great ice cream with a top notch crew at the helm serving tasty treats for not much money.

Bill B.

Yelp
The most amazing flavor and it supports a great cause. We just discovered the flavor Oscar" at our local Flapdoofles. A hybred among the rest Definitely worth a sample to begin with, and then the scrumptious delight of ordering and enjoying it We understand that some of the process of the sales benefit "The Landing". Win, win for everyone.

Yelp
Stopped by this place, which is almost directly across from the Hilton I was staying at to get a nightcap of ice cream. I had the coffee chocolate chip. All of the ice cream is made on the promises. It's a cute place and the ice cream was delicious. Good nightcap for me and star.
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
I always try new samples, today I got coffee chip, it was ok but I've had better ones.

Tara O.

Yelp
The ice cream is very very tasty. Nice staff and a wild variety of flavors.Try a double Child sized scoop with a sail. Very tasty.

Yelp
Flapdoodles ice cream is so delicious! So many fun flavors to choose from every time. I recently went to the Flapdoodles ice cream truck that was parked in front of the Berkman. I went over to grab ice cream for my coworkers at the hospital and didn't know how I was going to carry everything back, haha. The gentleman working the truck was very thoughtful and offered me a box (that he had to clean out) to carry all 7 ice cream cups! The ice cream was super yummy and was such a treat during a long week of work. Thanks Flapdoodles!

Yelp
Ehhh i am unimpressed with the ice cream offerings I've had in Rochester so far. My boyfriend was intent on coming and i was excited because Midwestern cream and milk offers great frozen treats but i was unimpressed by the flavors i got. I had the salted caramel and the cheesy chocolate one. Both were just "fine". They both lacked richness and just came off as basic ice cream - Nothing special in flavor or texture. I would rather get Ben and Jerry's or Haagen Daaz from the grocery store. The nautical theme reminded me of Scoops Ahoy from "Stranger Things" though.

Yelp
Had a great ice cream cone at flapdoodles. This is a one of a kind type of place. I had the oatmeal cookie cone. As others have commented the scoop size was very generous. We are only here in town for 4 weeks so we will have to try all the flavors by then. On a related note Wednesday is Waffle Cone Wednesday making for no charge for the cone.

Yelp
This has some of the best ice cream in town. Absolutely great! Only complaints is that it can get pretty expensive. The website is incredibly difficult to use as well.
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
This is by far the best ice cream in town(unless it's Monday bc they are closed). My favorites are the salted caramel, mint or the cookie dough. I like it in a waffle cone or as a hot fudge shake or sundae. The service is always speedy and friendly and the fun starts outside the restaurant with the infamous Giant Cone and goofiness that flapdoodles is known for. There's ample seating inside, as well as an opportunity to get a look at this hard, scooped ice cream and the awesome staff all of its glory. If you're not sure what you want I would highly recommend that you do the flight of ice cream. It's basically a kid size scoop so something about the size of a golf ball and you get four choices. Grab a seat inside or hit the drive-through. Just be prepared to wait especially on hot days. They have some other pretty decent seasonal flavors as well such as cookie butter, key lime pie and pumpkin which were amazingly good!

Yelp
Great as always for the family beginning of summer ice cream outing! Kids love Cookie Monster! I miss the chocolate cherry which wasn't there last night. Hope it comes back!

Yelp
I stopped in on a Saturday night as we drove through Rochester. I was excited to check out a local ice cream shop. There are two locations, one at either end of town which is nice. The parking lot is very tiny but at least there is one. When we walked inside, it was a little overwhelming with the ice cream flavors written in the glass next to the list of all the toppings and then more descriptions about the ice cream but I tried to just focus on the ice cream flavors. We sampled a few and I wasn't a fan of the chocolate hazelnut one I sampled. I opted for the chocolate peanut butter which is always a classic. I would say it was pretty good but nothing super special. Having just had Milkjam the week before in Minneapolis, it was hard not to compare. I enjoyed my ice cream but it wasn't absolutely amazing like a lot of the reviews stated. My friend got the chocolate mint chip and said the same thing. I think the holder for the waffle cones, although a good idea, is wasteful. I'm big into being eco-friendly so this wasn't something I was a fan of but overall it was a pretty good place to stop for ice cream.

Yelp
Easy drive through with family. Ordered right at the window and received great tasting ice cream very quickly. We felt that it was a safe experience during pandemic.

Beverley S.

Yelp
Great ice cream- lots of choices. They all looked good. Husband got malted chocolate & said it was his new favorite. I got the coffee. It was loaded with chocolate chips- no skimping there!!
google avatar

Erin E.

Yelp
Best ice cream in the area!!! My favorite is Strawberry Cheesecake...just wow!!! A MUST for dessert.
google avatar

Alice G.

Yelp
Amazingly rich ice cream. It is my favorite ice cream. It is creamy, thick, full of flavor and you can tell they put a lot of thought and love in their products/flavors. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
This town seriously lacks places that are open past 7pm. Besides scattered bars and restaurants, it becomes socially dead. We can count on Flapdoodles to be open to at least 10pm and provide delicious ice cream! They have a plenty of flavors that makes me want to keep asking for samples. We got the Chocolate chocolate chip (non-dairy) and Praline Swirl this time. I liked the praline much better. The size of the regular scoops are huge btw. They came in this cute boat shaped bowl. They sometimes use mini ice cream cones that act as a sail. I appreciate these small details :) Plenty of tables for small and large groups. There is outdoor sitting too. Take a pic in front of the huge ice cream cone if you have kids.
google avatar

Danell T.

Yelp
It was really good! We were on a road trip and stopped in on the way out of town. The scoops eye huge! If I had known how big they were going to be I would have just gotten one. The blueberry cheesecake and strawberry were winners in my book for sure. #OmahaFattie

Yelp
Simply stated , this is the best local ice cream shop we've ever tried. It's pure joy from the first to the last taste.
google avatar

Lorraine N.

Yelp
Small and not thought out drive-thru parking lot but it stays busy from what I can see. I applaud that they are generous with gift certificates for the school kids and foster kids in the local area which is how we ended up trying this place. The kids really love it and they have the neat flavors. I like ice cream just fine but this was just average to me not above and beyond.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
This is a fun place to go for homemade ice cream. You won't be let down by the variety of flavors! It's hard to pick, but the best part- you can still pick 3. They stick it in a boat, and top with a price of chocolate and mini cones. They do have shakes and cakes too. However, they are the only place in town that Charge for a doggie dish/pup cup of vanilla. Due to this, we don't go often if we have our fur baby with. He deserves ice cream too.
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
This is the best ice cream place in town! Their ice cream is creamy and their flavors are delicious. They use generous amounts of ingredients and portions in their ice cream. The price isn't cheap but its what you would expect for specialty ice cream. You can also choose to have your ice cream in a waffle cone and the cone is so good! There are two locations, one in NW and the other is south of town. The NW location has limited parking on site but you can park in the adjoining lot if needed. The south location has more readily available parking.

Yelp
I lived in Rochester for three months and went to Flapdoodles more often than I care to admit. I still fantasize about it sometimes and intend to return someday.
google avatar

Jim T.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream and great service from this long standing traditional ice cream shop in Rochester MN. This ice cream is loaded with butter fat to give you that silky smooth texture. Spend the extra and pair with the waffle cones
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
Great local ice cream shop! Quick and friendly service. We love going for shakes and bringing some extra pints home to eat another day. The cookies and cream and blueberry cheesecake ice cream are both amazing.

Yelp
Was highly encouraged to visit this place by a fellow Yelp Eliter (Thank You Kamrin D!!!), and I am so glad she let us in on the secret of this fantastic ice cream. Flapdoodles has two locations in Rochester, but this one is right off of Highway 52, so it's convenient to visit no matter you're staying in Rochester, or just driving through. If you are just driving through, Flapdoodles does have a drive-through for a quick stop shop for delicious ice cream. As for the group I went with, we definitely needed to go into the restaurant. I feel as if I should donate some sample spoons to this Flapdoodles location for the number of samples we had. The staff was so patient and friendly with us and gave us some great recommendations for flavors they enjoy. I ended up choosing the Cherry Cheesecake and Salted Caramel. The ice cream is so rich and flavorful! I also went with the regular scoops, which are extremely generous scoops. It was so filling that Flapdoodles Ice Cream ended up being my entire dinner (sorry mom). I also very much enjoyed the interior of the restaurants. There were multiple quirky quotes on the wall around the restaurant (I posted a picture of a few of them). It was definitely sad to leave and, as Flapdoodles would say, "enter the world of ordinary ice cream." Definitely check out Flapdoodles if you're in the Rochester area. Well worth the trip!
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
There's never a bad time to have ice cream, those are words I've arrived to live by. We didn't even let a little freezing rain or sleet stop us from going to Flapdoodles in a cold evening. We ordered a Flapdoodles sundae complete with two scoops and delicious ice cream cones on top. The puppy chow flavor was good, although the texture of the Chex mix didn't translate as well as I had hoped. The spicy chocolate lived up to its name and boasted a smooth deep chocolate flavor that I would definitely get again!
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
Ok, so I have to begin by giving ALL credit to Kamrin D. for telling me about this gem. Her recommendation for the cookie monster ice cream was spot on, too. They offer so many good flavors here- trust me I tried like at least 8 of them (sorry to the employee that had to scoop all those samples, you're awesome!). I decided to go with cookie monster and the caramel latte (per the employee's suggestion) and loved them both. I ordered two regular scoops and almost didn't finish it because I was so full! Great service and so many flavors to choose from that you can't go wrong. Definitely stop by if you're at the Mayo Clinic or just in the area.

Taylor W.

Yelp
Cute ice cream shop! They even have vegan options! Their peanut butter twist was amazing! The chocolate dipped waffle cone hit the spot! You can even do flights of ice cream! Best ice cream place I have been to in Minnesota so far!
google avatar

Yelp
The "Homemade" in the Flapdoodles fun name caught my attention one day as I was driving away from Walmart, so when the sweet tooth hit us one night, I knew exactly where we could go to take care of it. When I drove up to the spacious parking lot, there were families sitting outside enjoying time together as they gobbled up their creamy treats, while others were taking advantage of the drive through window. Because it was already night fall and the temperature had already begun to drop, we opted to sit inside. Inside the shop, it's bright and cheerful with all kinds of entertaining doodling on the walls and tables. Guess this is how they got their name? Anyway, there are two stores. North and South, and they both have different flavors on rotation. We were at the North store because it was closer to our hotel and it appeared to be bigger than the South one. The showcase of ice cream looks very similar to that of the more popular chain that sells 31 flavors. So I figured it was going to be similar in taste and nothing really unique about it. But I was wrong. It was much thicker and creamier. Good, but because each scoop is about the size of a tennis ball if not larger, it was a challenge to eat more than one scoop. I can see how popular it must get here during the Summer. But I would definitely go back, Summer or not.

Yelp
Great selection of great ice cream. A nice family stop on a hot day! Kids of all ages. My fav? Mocha.

Becky B.

Yelp
Great ice cream shop! A variety of flavors, some seasonal. Always a great cone for dessert!
google avatar

Laine M.

Yelp
So good! Totally worth the drive thru line (it really moves very quickly!). I love the cherry's jubilee, but all the flavors are so tasty! It can be hard to decide, so my tip is do kiddie scoops of the 2 flavors in a waffle cone. Be careful though.... you may get addicted!
google avatar

Lora B.

Yelp
I'm a big ice cream fan and Flapdoodles didn't dissapoint. I got one scoop of the cherry cheesecake and it was honestly one of the best flavors I've ever had. All of their ice cream is homeade and you can tell! The scoop was giant and placed on top of a delicious sugar cone for right around $4. This place is a must visit if you're in the area.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Wow. We were on our way back home and we were craving some "real" ice cream. After googling it this place came up and had great reviews. So we went to it and we were not disappointed at all. It was real ice cream as in it was homemade on this exact premise. And it tasted amazing. The staff was so friendly and happy to give samples. I got Coffee chip and the blue berry cheesecake flavors and they were heavenly. The place was packed and It's totally understandable. Even the table and chairs were cute. Many people with kids were there. Such a happy environment to be in. I absolutely loved it.
google avatar

Ruth K.

Yelp
Oh my gosh....I love all your ice-cream. Every flavor is so good. Top notch service too.
google avatar

Amy O.

Yelp
You definitely need to get the Cookie Monster ice cream. Holy buckets. It's blue, but doesn't taste like the typical blue ice creams (cotton candy etc) Their truck was recently at an event I went to, and even with a small truck they had tons of flavors.
