Yelp
"Oh, so this is an ice cream place?," One lady asked us as we left Flat Iron...
"No, actually, it's so much more than ice cream but the ice cream is superb!"
Flat Iron is a chain of restaurants in England known for good value and locally sourced steak. Their locations are phenomenal and this one in particular, on Henrietta St, is so very close to Covent Garden Market...it's a great a convenient place for lunch or dinner when visiting Covent Garden.
Gold Elite Tip for a first timer: If you want to eat here, the wait can be 4+ hours or more at times so before you decide to wander around Covent Garden, head here first and put your name on the list so you can find out your wait time. Then go ahead and explore Covent Garden at your leisure.
Food:
We came for a light lunch before watching a show and my favorites were:
Flat Iron Steak: A Delicious and Good Quality Piece of Steak, served as a true medium rare. Well seasoned, tender and nice sized portion.
Dripping Chips: I love beef fat fried chips so for me I was happy with the chips - cooked crunchy on the outside but thick enough to have a bite and a tender middles.
Roast Aubergine: For me, the star of our sides. I love Aubergines (or Eggplants as my fellow Americans call them) with Tomato Sauce and Cheese, great value and delicious side. I would definitely suggest you grab this side.
Drinks looks phenomenal but we didn't indulge this trip.
And I also forgot, at the end of your meal, you get an adorable little cleaver as a souvenir. You can either hold onto you cleaver or exchange it for a free ice cream after your meal or to redeem at another time. As far as I know, you can't purchase the ice cream but you can indulge for free after your meal!
Ambience:
We ate downstairs and loved the ambience. Not too noisy with small tables for couples, communal tables and larger tables in private nooks for bigger parties.
Bottom Line:
Great Value and Delicious option near very popular areas in London. Would definitely come back for more! If you are a meat eater, definitely have the steak and don't skip out on the Aubergine.
