04/09/2022: 4.5 out of 5 - Saturday Run Group was hungry after today's run training. So, we all agreed on Flattop & Salamander!
They were great, and able to accommodate our group. Meg was our server she was wonderful in providing fast and friendly service. She remembered us, and poured on the coffee. Meg made the morning more warmer for us.
The food came, and it was just spot on delicious!
One thing I noticed that I forgot to mention last time was, the eating utensils were not just only clean...but polished! Such great attention-to-details that makes this eatery a top-notch eatery to enjoy delicious pleasantries.
I believe we are going to be regulars here. I hope Flattop & Salamander can accommodate my running group because there are more of the foodie runners who couldn't make it for brunch.
Do check Flattop & Salamander if you ever get a chance. It's worth a try, and you can decide for yourself.
Enjoy!
03/12/2022: 4.0 out of 5 - Went out for a run today in Milwaukie, and the group wanted to try a new place we heard about. So, here we were at Flattop & Salamander for brunch (we were told that breakfast and lunch is served all day) in Portland area.
Upon entering, the staff were quick to address and get us seated. We definitely came in at a good time before the rush. Every one of the staff were friendly and attentive, which obviously makes a more enjoyable experience as new patrons.
The establishment is kept very clean. The tables were nicely spaced with clean chairs. The bathroom is kept but can be better. I do often check out the vents above at every eatery I go to, which were very clean at Flattop & Salamander.
I did my usual "go-to" breakfast test by getting the Biscuits & Gravy with a side of sausage, and coffee. I noticed what looked like a "Chalkboard Menu" but there were no specials or anything edible listed.
The coffee was a good blend. Doesn't seem like the staff can get enough of it around. Maybe not brewing fast enough, but it would have been nice if the staff kept coming around to check instead of us always asking. Regardless, it may be different on other days. Now, my Biscuits & Gravy was good. What made it more interesting was it being topped with onion crisp. First for me, but it was a nice touch. The house-made sausage gravy was tasty.
I was able to sample the other dishes that the other "Foodie" runners had ordered; Chicken & Waffles with Bacon Butter, Honduras Baleadas, and Vegan Hash with a side of Bacon. All were good.
All in all, at the end of any meal I often will ask, "Would you come back?" My answer if given the opportunity? Most likely since the staff are great, the food and drinks are tasty, and the establishment doesn't partake in any form of discrimination. I would like to try several other menu items next time around.
So, as I always say, if you ever get a chance, definitely try it once and decide for yourself.
Enjoy!
Note: Even though the masking requirements for indoor spaces have been lifted, there are establishments still requiring masks and COVID cards, it was nice to see this eatery in the greater Portland area not requiring masks or COVID cards. It's a great to see Flattop & Salamander not partaking in any of the Social Discrimination Policies that some restaurant owners/management are choosing to still do.
