Yelp
I was super excited to check out Flavor Hive, a food truck that has been making features and appearances all over social media - I was also glad to see something that was open late, as they had extended their hours recently due to Ramadan.
Their menu offers quesadillas, rice bowls, loaded fries, and a 'Krazy Pouch' (stuffed pita), in which you choose from chicken, gyro, combo meat (chicken and gyro), or falafel as your protein.
We ordered:
+a rice bowl with a combo meat - this was described as seasoned rice topped with a salad, cucumbers, tomatoes, cilantro, red onions, fried onions, and sauce; we didn't receive the combo meat, as it was only chicken, which there was plenty of; the spices/marinade on the chicken was a bit too much for me, but the hubs thought it was okay; we didn't see any fried onions or the salad in this dish; it was definitely rice-heavy, but of a generous portion overall
+a Krazy Pouch with falafel - this was described as an Egyptian bread stuffed with cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, fried onions, and white sauce; unfortunately, they substituted the falafel for gyro meat, which there were literally 2 pieces of - fortunately, the cubed gyro meat was tasty, but I was shocked that they were so stingy with this - I'm thinking that they were already running out of it, and they just happen to try to complete our order with the pieces that they had left; in addition, there weren't any fried onions or a salad that we could see, as it was mostly white sauce, tomatoes, and cucumbers; the bread seemed to have been toasted but it was chewy and stale-like
We had heard the ticket numbers after ours called out from the staff, saying that they had run out of gyro, so the orders that had requested the combo meat would only come with chicken; we thought we were lucky enough to at least try the gyro, but this really wasn't the case.
When our orders were taken, we had requested no cilantro as a topping, which was totally dismissed; not sure if it was a communication situation between the staff or if it would have been better if we had ordered online. Both of our dishes had ample fresh cilantro on top, in which we had to try to scoop it off (to no avail).
We also requested the sauces to be on the side, in which the staff stated that all sauces come on the side automatically, and customers would just have to request the sauce(s) when they picked up their order on the other side of the truck; however, all the meals automatically came with a heavy drizzle of the white sauce (which we didn't mind, as it was a good complement).
We were able to try their famous date chai, which was served super hot - it was creamy and tasty, and definitely a great drink that is not to be missed.
Service was friendly - luckily, we live close by, so we returned to let them know that our items were completely wrong and not at all what we had ordered/requested - we did get an apology and a refund, which was a nice remediation, but we weren't able to eat the food and had to find another alternative.
If we were to have made a trek, I think it would have been a different story and rating, albeit still annoying.
I may give them another try once all the kinks are worked out and probably suggest in going earlier to avoid the lines and when they have ample ingredients.
The truck can be found located behind the building of Shooter McGee's; there's ample parking in the large lot.
