Flavorful House - Review - Richmond Hill - Toronto - The Infatuation

"This Cantonese restaurant up in Richmond Hill specializes in labor-intensive dishes you’ll need to preorder, like deep-fried chicken wings stuffed with sticky rice. Or the seasonal eight treasure winter melon soup. Double-boiled for six hours with conch, scallop, and jinhua ham inside the gourd itself until the flesh is sweet and translucent, it could be a meal in itself. But then you'd miss out on juicy roast squab with snappy skin, or the encyclopedic list of cooked-to-order seafood, including white eel steamed with intensely umami ingredients like fermented black bean and dried orange peel. The room is loud and full of energy, with plastic tablecloths and spinning lazy susans, but also elaborate tableside service. It’s a family-friendly madhouse during peak hours, so book ahead, and even then expect to wait while the hostess juggles a mile-long list of names." - Renée Suen

I made a reservation two days in advance, but unfortunately there was no record of it, which was a bit confusing at first. However, the staff were very accommodating and kindly seated us in a booth. We ordered the Stir-Fried Diced Beef with Cashew in Maggi Sauce, Sweet and Sour Pork with Pineapple and Peppers, Black Bean Stir-Fried Razor Clams, and a 3 lb Hong Kong–style lobster. The food was not overly seasoned, allowing us to really enjoy the natural flavors of the ingredients, and everything tasted fresh. We were very satisfied with both the food and the service, and I would definitely visit again whenever I'm in the mood for Cantonese food.

My first time experience is surprisingly amazing. I rarely write reviews on any places I visited. So here it is; The food is amazingly good and tasty. The waitress gave us a plate of napkins which is unusual but very respectful! I gave atmosphere a 4 star instead of 5 because of how loud is it with other people, I could barely hear the person I sat with, especially I am deaf (equipped with cochlear implants). Just a small thing to consider but not a deal breaker. I'd definitely come back again and again!

We come to this restaurant a couple times. Overall the quality is pretty good! Honourable mentions are the Free Range soy sauce chicken is well made! The Deep fried tofu came with a special sauce! The Baby Razor clam fried with black bean sauce is a nice recommendation. The razor clam is very fresh!

Probably the worst geoduck I’ve had in my life and I’m writing to warn others (see my photos). The chef should not be preparing sashimi, as the knife skills were clearly lacking. This was supposed to be a 2.3 lb geoduck at $58/lbs yet the sashimi portion amounted to only about 10 unevenly cut pieces, while the fried portion took up the entire plate. This was a complete waste of money. If I wanted a fried dish, I would have ordered salt and pepper squid for much less. The ladies working were very nice however they did not have enough employees for all the tables so the service inevitably sucked. The saving grace was the soy sauce chicken, but I won’t be back.

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! I haven't had such an amazing meal in so long with such authentic flavors, amazing service, on-point atmosphere... Expect a long review, 'cause I loved this place! I came here while on a trip and this place was highly recommended to me by a friend. Reservations are recommended for larger groups, I think, or when they're busy (I think, since my friend did make a reservation for me). Every ingredient is fresh, and prepared with authenticity and I definitely can taste the experience the chefs have. The celtuce and the king oyster mushrooms were great (such crispy celtuce and tender mushroom). The sauce they coated the beef with was phenomenal, and combined with the tenderness of the beef... heaven. Not to mention, the beef is cooked perfectly, not undercooked and not overdone unlike some other restaurants that screw it up and hide their mistake under layers of sauce. The chicken was wonderful and the plating gorgeous, very fresh chicken definitely. I myself am not a huge fan of seafood but the other people I ate with were, so we did get geoduck and seafood soup. I tentatively ate a few geoduck, and hey, it's not bad. I think what blew me away the most, though, was the salted egg. A friend I ate with ordered it, and said to me that I'd definitely like it (I've never had this dish before). Boy, that dish was AMAZING! Remember how I didn't like seafood that much? That tiger shrimp was so fresh and chewy and didn't stink of seafood at all! The crispy, salty exterior of the egg that coated the chewy, sweet pumpkin slices was phenomenal, I can't even describe how wonderful it was. Just when we were stuff and full, dessert of green bean soup arrived— perfect for a hot summer day. The soup was sweet and refreshing, and I am not lying when I said this meal made my day much better. Service was excellent too, the staff were all friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was lively and the decor and lighting really was pretty neat (and so was the tank that had all the seafood and fish and crustaceans that garnered the interest of a kid at a nearby table, which made me smile). Can't recommend this enough, it's worth every single dollar, and you honestly can't go wrong with any dish.

The service is really good and the staff are super nice! I love the pumpkin dish . It’s so delicious. They also have deep fried tofu skin, which is the best dish in the restaurant. The soy sauce chicken is amazing too!

The dinner menu features a distinctive selection of dishes that set it apart from traditional Chinese cuisine. While the flavors were delightful, a few dishes could benefit from a little less greasy oil.

This restaurant is extremely busy, so reservations are mandatory. They do have VIP rooms, but you need to book well in advance. The main dining room is incredibly crowded. However, the food is incredibly authentic Chinese cuisine. The waitress is very well-trained and knowledgeable about their best dishes.
