3 Best Day Trips from Washington, D.C. | Condé Nast Traveler

"The chefs at romantic Fleurie spin Virginia's agricultural bounty into a variety of refined French dishes, best experienced via the reasonably priced tasting menu. But it's the wine list is what takes the restaurant to the next level. It's made up primarily of small of small producers and, like the food, it skews French (with a good smattering of Virginia thrown in). It's been tapped as one of the best in the country by some of the major wine publications—an impressive feat for a spot in a small university town." - Laura Ratliff, Kristen Schott

The food is excellant. I had the beets amd salmon salad appetizer, filet mignon entree with mushrooms, and a vanilla creme brulee for dessert. In between each course the restaurant serves surprise dishes for everyone to try. These are all samples sizes but very delicious and something you don't experience anywhere else. The staff did a great job answering questions and sharing where the food was sourced and how it is prepared. The atmosphere was nice and I didn't have to yell over loud music to speak with my dinner party. If you are visiting Charlottesville and want a fine French dining experience, with a quiet atmosphere, this is a must try. Great for business and date nights!

It’s not often that we can justify splurging on a meal like this, but it was so worthwhile and special. The food, the service, the whole experience was amazing and we loved celebrating our first wedding anniversary here. My husband and I couldn’t recommend it more to celebrate your special occasion.

This was by far the most pleasant and technically impressive dining experience I have ever had. It is without a doubt worth much more than the fixed price they are charging. I ordered what I wanted, but they just kept bringing more and more complimentary bites of the most delicious food I have ever tasted. Everything from the Foies Gras, Veal, and Creme Brulee left me with a deep desire for more. If they hadn't kept me sated with small plates Inbetween courses, I would have gladly ordered everything a second time. Seriously, well done staff. Go to this restaurant. You will not regret it.

We enjoyed our meal at fleurie — this was our second visit, but we had a better experience 2 years ago. The service was not as good as the first time. On this visit, the restaurant was out of 4 dishes on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm — they did not have 2 of their advertised specials, a main, and a signature appetizer (lobster bisque). It was disappointing because we came here for a special occasion meal and were upset that several options we wanted were not available. We also had different servers throughout the night, the table next to us was served their mains without silverware, and we had to ask a few times for water to be refilled or bread service. It’s still a great meal with nice surprise canapés, but there were some missteps for a Saturday night at prime dining hour. Food notes — sea bass main was delicious. The escargot special was quite small. And the maple cake for dessert was soaked in so much alcohol that it was inedible (tasted like straight shots of bourbon).

This is a splurge for most people coming here, but my wife and I have always felt we got more than our money's worth the three times we've been here. And we both agree that 3 of the top 5 meals we've ever had in our life have been served at Fleurie. The only critique (and it's a very minor critique) is that the bread is very good, but it's not outstanding. I'd like to see them be a bit more creative with the bread and maybe with the flavor of the butter and olive oil. But we love this place and we will be coming back again and again.

Perfect for a nice date. Service is insane. Price fix menu is legit amazing. Lobster and steak melted in your mouth. Risotto and scallops v good. Deserts are incredible too. Apple tart caramel was a fave

“Keep the “Mains” Thing the Main Thing!” We celebrated our Anniversary with dinner at Fleurie. I was disappointed on the entire experience. 1. Too many bites/mini plates. They were tasty however, by the time the Main course came, you were too full to eat. 2. We both ordered the beef fillet. The cut was excellent however the steak was not hot and dry with a sauce that was indescribable. For the price and experience, the Main course needs to be exceptional. We also heard another table express their disappointment in the steak. 3. Service was sporadic. Our waitress was also the bartender for all patrons. They forgot to take our dinner order. 4. Several couples were celebrating a special occasion. A complimentary flute of Champagne would be appropriate for the price of the prefix meal. Lobster bisque was excellent. Overall, I would love to see this restaurant keep the “Main Thing, The Main Thing!”

As a food critic I don’t usually get blown away from quality but this restaurant gave me sensations I never knew I could feel. I would like to keep this brief but I want to highlight that the cured salmon dish was incredible. Whoever is in the kitchen plating this work of art is an incredible person. I would highly recommend to try this dish. The sweetness of the pickled beets mixed with the cured flavor of the salmon was incredible. Fleurie is a must go if you are in the charlottesville area!
