Love love love Flew the Coop! Best chicken sandwiches in Portland. Fried and delicious without being oily/greasy. Great flavors on every sandwich. They also give great customer service and have a solid location in NE! Also, FtC folks, if you’re reading this: PLEASE make the Sandwich Week Special a permanent part of the menu!! I am still thinking about it days later!

First time trying Flew the Coop. We did not go in person. We ordered using Uber Eats. But before using any service I always read the reviews before making a decision. And there were some reviews mentioning bad customer service but if you really read into them you'll see this isn't any ol food truck. This place has been legit serving it up in the greater Portland area for a good minute. And I knew i had to give it a try. We ordered The... KfC Chicken Sandwich HOT Honey Chicken Sandwich Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich Chicken & waffle frys. Mac n Cheese And the Garlic frys. This was a huge dinner! We normally cook at home Monday through Friday but dinner didn't turn out and we we're all hungry haha so while ordering we wanted everything haha. The Food came SUPER FAST! and we all dove into the huge bag with absolute delight! Everything was Hot and Amazing looking. One after another we devoured every bite really haha the gravy was delicious. And I wish I didn't have to share it with the kids but I did cause I'm a good guy .... My only complaint is that my wife wouldn't let me order a chocolate chip cookie and now I don't have nothing sweet and scrumdiddillyumptious to munch on. But other then that I would highly recommend this place and will 100% keep ordering! Thanks for the awesome meal way to keep it Top Notch!

Thank god for Portland sandwhich week showing us this gem. The crispyness of the fries alone will bring us back but the chicken was so perfectly juicy on the sandwhich it brought tears to my eyes.

Get the hot honey chicken sandwich. I have lived all over the country (11 different states) and moved to Portland about 2 months ago. The hot honey is the best chicken sandwich I have ever had in my life. I just checked my order history, and I have been to Flew the Coop 9 times in 2 months. Will, the owner, is a really nice, reasonable guy and he is super cool to talk to at off hours when he is not busy. He runs the kitchen by himself, and is usually slammed with orders during peak hours (with the help of a cashier). It’s sad that people can’t understand that… these 1-star reviews are sad. Highly recommend. The $11 price point on all sandwiches is really nice to see these days and will keep me coming back.

Truly delicious fried chicken in a variety of options. The hot honey chicken is incredible. The KFC (Korean fried chicken) chicken is incredible. Their fries are great.

I've been frequenting this local spot for a while now, and it never disappoints when it comes to combining affordability with good food. While it might not serve the best chicken fried sandwich I've ever had, it certainly hits the spot, especially at the reasonable price of $11. One of my favorite combinations here is the Buffalo chicken sandwich paired with a side of their blue cheese fries. The sandwich features a warm bun, crispy chicken, and tangy bleu cheese slaw—a definite winner in my book. The fries are always impressively crispy, even when delivered, which is a feat in itself. During my last visit, I also tried the mac n' cheese. It was exactly what you'd expect—comforting and tasty, though not extraordinary. However, it added a nice touch to the meal and complemented the sandwich well. Overall, this local eatery is a great place to enjoy satisfying meals without breaking the bank. The quality and flavors make it a reliable choice for anyone looking for a delicious and affordable dining experience.

Wasn't a bad experience. The frickn' chickn' sandwiched filled and warmed me up. The slaw tasted okay, but lacked a good crunch component to the sandwich. The chicken and waffle fries were good but also lacked a sweet component to really round out the saltiness from the gravy. The gravy and chicken were good on their own. All in all good crispy chicken and I would maybe try something from here again. See pictures, food looks good too.

First let me tell you about the amazing owner who goes above and beyond. He is meticulous, care so much about his food. I know in my heart I could not recreate the chicken at home and that is what will make me come back. He has mastered this. He is open to critic. I was. Or sure of something and he took the time to talk with me to make it right. See you soon.

Wow, many times at this truck and never disappointed. Fast, hot and fresh. I "feel" like this is one of the more affordable and value per buck places in the Barley Pod. For 10$, a crazy big chicken, quality sandwich. And add a side for 5$ (waffle or regular fries, Mac and cheese, etc.). I will say, the mac and cheese could use some work, tastes a bit processed, but I assume as it has to sit and be portioned, so, okay. Just doesn't match the amazing taste of the rest of the food. Service is friendly and patient, even when there's a line.

Love the food-hate the availability. Closed at 2pm on a Wednesday and not open the full weekend. Hard to ever really know.

I have not heard of this food cart until my coworker mentioned that she really wanted to try their chicken sandwiches, especially the Korean fried chicken one. We finally had a chance to try it and my experience was underwhelming. While the sandwich itself was good, it wasn't anything I haven't tried before. I will say that the buns were soft and the chicken was juicy. Price point was also fair, $10 a sandwich. It does not come with any sides or fries so we also ordered a side of waffle fries with honey mustard. However, it's the service that will not bring me back. The lady that took my order was not friendly or inviting. And when I got my order, I didn't see the honey mustard sauce so I asked if it was in there. I feel like that's a fair question, since it wasn't visible and a lot of times, restaurants forget the sauce. Her answer and demeanor towards me was cold and honestly rude and off-putting. Maybe she was having a bad day? I don't know but I myself work in customer service and wouldn't treat customers/clients in that manner.

Superb chicken sandwiches to be had here. The Nashville hot is delicious. Super moist fried chicken and just hot enough sauce. Their Korean chicken sandwich is legit as well. Yummy waffle fries. Quick and friendly service.

I got the hot honey chicken sandwich. It took about 15 minutes for us to get our food, the worker was friendly when taking our order. The waffles fries were delicious, the definition of a great crunch. Soft on the inside with a flakey exterior. The ranch is also a win from me, sometimes ranch has no flavor or is too watery but not this place. The ranch is flavorful with the perfect texture, a great addition to the fries. For the hot honey sandwich, I love the combo, it was sweet and savory. The chicken breading was flakey but wasn't hard where it sometimes cuts your gums. I wouldn't describe the honey as hot, so if that has scared you to try it, don't be. I would definitely order it again!

It's been so long since I've been here. I moved away and wish there was a place like this near me. My sisters both really like the Buffalo chicken sandwich but honestly I like everything. The owner is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. I hope it's open the next time I'm in town.

Five stars because those chicken sandwiches are bombass. I've woken up from a dream about them and decided it was my bucket list for the day to have one. And the waffle fries and seasoned fries are good too. Mac and cheese tastes like an antique...Like maybe someone picked the pasta off their 70s art project and cooked it. And then made some cheese sauce and left it in a dusty abandoned house five years ago, and then served it to us today. I've never tasted the mothballs in my grandmas closet, but I'm guessing that's what they taste like. It was $5 so I'm not really mad about it. Go get a sandwich now! Don't get the macaroni.

Almost always get the chicken parm (get there early as it sells out often) and it's amazing. Service is no frills and food is consistently excellent. Having other food options in this food truck pod is nice when with a group plus good beer at Baerlic

My friend LOVES fried chicken so we went to try their chicken sandwich. We got the original and the Nashville Hot with waffle fries. All the food was (seemingly) made to order, which is what made it so crispy and juicy. Highly recommend if you love fried chicken sandwiches!

OK, adding a star. I have now gone 3 times, and the 2nd & 3rd time I substituted the bun for the ciabatta bread used on another sandwich. I think it really improves it. This is going to be one of my regulars. Original post copied below. ----------------------------------------------------- I got the Hot and spicy crispy Nashville chicken, served with creamy coleslaw and dill pickles. I like hot things, but even so this packed a punch. By the time I finished it, I was sweating & crying. It was a large chicken breast, battered & deep fried. It could honestly use a larger bun as a considerable amount of chicken was sticking out both sides. The chicken was moist & tender, and coated with a Cajun seasoning of some kind. The slaw it's topped with is a good pairing. Warning: If you plan on eating there, give the sandwich a few minutes to cool off. It was deep fried and comes out HOT!

It seems like everything is expensive these days, so when I discovered Flew the Coop, with its massive fried chicken sandwiches averaging around $9, I was a bit astounded. Heck, crappy fast food places are charging nearly that much for their premium sandwiches, and they mothercluckin' terrible by comparison! My wife ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, while I dismissively ignored the sandwich named the "KFC" because of its obvious connotation, realizing afterward that the acronym stood for "Korean Fried Chicken", and went with my perennial favorite, the Nashville Hot Chicken. I have no regrets about my choice, but knowing myself, I would have branched out and tried that one instead, because just about anything labeled "Korean" is going to be good. Both of us eyeballed the Bacon & Bleu fries, but after seeing the size of the sandwiches being served to other customers, there was no way we'd be able to tackle that in addition to our entrees. Next time! The chicken breasts for each sandwich are generously sized, high-quality white meat, crispy fried to perfection, juicy and tender. Each came with its own accoutrement, with the Buffalo Chicken slathered in bleu cheese coleslaw and battered in buffalo-sauced breading. The Nashville was crisp and spicy, and thankfully not saturated in hot oil like other places tend to do. I didn't know this food cart pod was here, but it's definitely going to become a regular stop for us, whenever the hunger pangs drive us to fly the coop in search of lunch or dinner...and there won't be any hunting and pecking necessary to narrow down where to go. And while we haven't tried any of the other carts within the pod yet, it will be difficult to dethrone Flew the Coop as the big cockerel at the top of the pecking order!

Drove all the way from NE made it to the restaurant at 1:10 just told be told that the kitchen is closing early...nice business practice.

Great chicken sandwiches! Not much more to say, I hit this spot quite a bit if I'm working in the area. Friendly staff, get food out quickly and decent price for size of sandwich.

Simply amazing chicken sandwiches! Hands down & hats off to the preparation, freshness & tastyyy! It's a food truck with shared seating space in the center. Amazing vibe in any season. They will provide some heaters in winter and tents when raining. Nashville hot chicken sandwich & garlic fries are my usual.. simply amazing!

Their sandwiches are good, but they constantly run out of chicken Parmesan sandwiches and frequently shut down their in person operations to prioritize DoorDash. While it makes sense that DoorDash helps them make more money, it kinda sucks as a customer just trying to show up at the cart.

The KFC (Korean fried chicken breast) and garlic herb fries is so good! The owner is friendly.

Terrible service they had a sign out that said 10-15 mins to order. Waited 30 minutes and still wouldn't let us order. When I asked how much longer sir, degraded me and put up there closed sign. To worried about there online orders than real people trying to get food!! Fuk the coop

My go to spot for fries! They have the best garlic herb fries , literally everything you'd ever wanted and executed perfectly. Each fry is golden crispy with explosion of herby garlicy flavor in every bite. They also have great chicken sammys like the Nashville so give that a try. I percent recommend their fries so if you're at the food pod and ordered something else, I would recommend at least trying their fries too!

It was recommended by a relative. I was eating at the Food Cart with relatives. I ordered the Frickin' Chicken Sandwich and an order of waffle fries. The chicken sandwich was delicious, very flavorful, chicken was very crispy, the bun was great, everything about it was delish! I got some ketchup from their condiments bar to dip the fries in. Service is friendly and they even give you a buzzer, to let you know when your order is ready. Will go back and bring hubby with me! UPDATE: He did, yesterday! One negative, since it's a food cart . . . you have to park your car before you get there, with Halsey being a busy street. Then walk to the food cart, about a block or closer where ever you find parking.

Flew the Coop has one of the best Nashville Hot Chicken burger there is in Portland! That's my usual order always, with a side of garlic fries. However, the last time I ordered garlic fries a few days back, the taste had changed, the taste was more artificial and also could not taste the garlic bits that usually would be the highlight of fries. They are usually busy so drop in before usual lunch or dinner time to get your order in time! Grab a beer from nearby Baerlic brewery and enjoy your burger :)

Perfection. Get the Fricken Chicken, split some mac and cheese with a friend, and know that you can now die happy.

Yummy chicken and fries! Their ranch is good too! The cart is adorable too! I recommend for anyone craving mac, gravy, and chickenn.

I love fried chicken, but have never had chicken and waffle (also love waffles,} so the chicken and waffle fries intrigued me. And I love gravy. This worked well for me, a fair amount of gravy (is there ever enough?), very crispy waffle fries that the gravy clung to, and plenty fried chicken pieces. Tony thought his chicken sandwich above average.

Tasty spot for fried chicken located in the Baerlic Brewing Barley Pod on NE 60th and Halsey. I went for the Buffalo (crispy chicken breast tossed in spicy buffalo sauce, topped with blue-cheese slaw) while Dan tried the chicken and waffle fries (Southern fried chicken, crispy waffle fries, country gravy). Both meals were good, certainly satisfying. The Buffalo had a pleasantly spicy kick. Got us to talking about the various spots in town that feature fried chicken, particularly fried chicken sandwiches. Add Flew the Coop to the list. Nicely diverse variety of carts on this pod. Dan was hungry and picked up an additional empanada from La Arepa and was very happy.

I used to love this place, the food is usually very tasty. I have been coming here for years and even made a point to thank the employees during my last visit. As the other reviews say, the lady serving can sometimes be rude and rush you, but usually the food is worth it. I actually made an account just to give this place a GOOD review, but after my experience, I have to give it 1 star. I'm a food safety manager, and I got food poisoning during my last visit from the chicken sandwich at this cart. I am confident that this carts food handling procedures were not followed, both my girlfriend and I had a terrible night by the toilet. I performed a risk assessment as an exercise and identified the cause to be adulterated chicken. Maybe it wasn't cooked to temp, wasn't stored at proper temp, maybe they didn't wash their hands or change gloves often, maybe it fell on the floor- who knows. But trust me, I have a food science degree with years of experience in the industry. I have to say I am really disappointed. It's clear that the employees neglect for the customer has gone too far. I'm bummed to say I will not be returning. Be aware you may not enjoy what follows when dining here. EDIT: It's called a Qualitative Risk Assessment, just so the owner can look it up and maybe perform one. Also added a screenshot of the extremely unprofessional response I initially received (first screenshot- white), only to be edited to the current one (second screenshot- black). Really disappointed in the owners integrity. If handled correctly this review could have been changed, but now it's set in stone.

Been here a few times but the last few experiences weren't that memorable and satisfying. Used to be very good but not as much now to say the least. Their original fried chicken sandwich was my most favorite. I'll definitely be coming back for another shot.

Had to pull a last-minute stop for food before heading back to PHX. Popped in to The Coop to grab some chicken. Interesting menu. While abbreviated, it is more than accommodating. Obviously, I'm going for the hottest bird on the menu cause my pride doesn't know when to take the back seat. Grabbed the chicken tenders with some Mac and fries. The spice level was more than impressive, w/o taking away from the deliciousness of the meal. Tender and juicey chicken, Mac was on point, and the fries helped passify the burn in the backend. Will be frequently stopping here and speaking on this place for some time. Do yourself a favor and #flewthecoop for yourself!!

We had blue cheese French fries. By far the best I have ever had! there was just the right amount of of blue cheese, for a perfect flavor.

If I could give this 6 stars I would! My wife and I got the frick'n chick'n and the chicken parm sandwiches plus a side of Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was creamy and rich and good amount for sharing. The frick'n chick'n was AMAZING! The chicken was crispy and the bread complimented the salad well not was a bit messy, but worth cleaning up all the pieces that fell off The chicken parm sandwich was tender and had lots of sauce. Not as good compared to the original chicken sandwich, but good in its own right. We will be back!

We order from here when our favorite chicken sandwich place was closed. We're so glad we tried it. They have so many options. I tried the Frick'n chic'n which I think is their standard because I always like to have a baseline. My husband tried the KFC and it was a bit sweet for his/my tastes. I do like that they have various chicken sandwich options and not just fried chicken. The sandwiches were a good size and the price was just right. We also ordered the garlic fries which were very tasty.

Never disappoints! We live a good 40-60 minutes away (depending on traffic) and have made the drive for one of these amazing sandwiches. We even brought out of town family to try fare from here and they agreed it's amazing.

This food truck surpassed my expectations. Not only is the entree delicious, but their sides also hits the spot. I wasn't sure what to eat since we had just come back from hiking. We had the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. They did that sandwich right! The chicken Parmesan has a lot of flavor and the chicken they used was a nice fat breast piece, not like the small piece of chicken you get at fast food places. The chicken Parmesan tastes so good, I want to come back and try their other sandwiches. Since I'm not a local, I definitely will come back before I leave!!

My family visited Portland, OR from California & came across Flew the Coop on our search for some good comfort food. I AM SO GLAD WE FOUND THIS PLACE! It's a MUST TRY!! This food cart serves the most delicious fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had! The chicken perfectly crispy, while staying immensely juicy, and made for couple pretty bomb sandwiches. I got the hot honey chicken sandwich, which had a very good balance of sweet and spicy. My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sandwich, just as amazing but had a bigger kick of spice to it. We shared the bacon & blue fries, which were sooooooo delish. We are a sucker for blue cheese & these fries delivered on the flavor My son, who is typically a picky eater, got the kids mac n' cheese and he devoured it. We got our food super quick & customer service was lovely, smiles all around. Will (the owner) came out to greet us and thanked us for visiting his food cart, he was very friendly and welcoming. The food area had a very chill vibe and there were lots of tables to sit at and enjoy! Overall, we HIGHLY recommend Flew the Coop and will definitely be coming back when we are in Portland next!

Let the party in your mouth begin! A remarkable chicken sandwich (Frick'n Chick'n). Quality ingredients, cooked to perfection, imaginative and presented with care.   Served with just the right amount of crispy fries. Wear your loose pants and enjoy!

This is the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had, hands down. I ordered through DoorDash and got the Nashville Hot Chicken (minus the slaw, I'm just not a slaw gal), the fries and Mac n cheese. The food arrived to my house still warm and everything was crispy! Sandwich to bread to pickle ratio was perfect! Fries stayed crispy even when they were room temp, the aioli to go with the fries was a nice cool down from the heat of the sandwich, and the Mac N cheese was tasty! I'll definitely be eating here again.

Wow... now these people know how to fry up chicken! Damn!! Sooooo good! I have ordered delivery a couple times an d it just can't be beat. Ordered the Frick'n Chick'n Sandwich, chicken waffle fries and the mac n' cheese. When ordering the sandwiches I would suggest ordering them with the toppings on the side. This sandwich had coleslaw and bread and butter pickles which added the perfect crunch. The coleslaw was really delicious and creamy and I got to say the Grand Central bun was so soft and the perfect bun. The mac & cheese is super cheesy and delicious. The waffle cut fries have bits of fried chicken breast on top with country gravy... Yummo! Everything to go was packaged really well and everything arrived warm as ordered. Check it out!

No photo because I was so hungry I devoured it. I ordered it for delivery off door dash. Everything was still warm and nothing was soggy. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is the best fried chicken sandwich I have ever eaten, no comparison has even come close. I don't like coleslaw so I did request that not be added - it is a spicy sandwich but for those who like coleslaw it is probably perfect! Haha. My spouse who does like coleslaw says it's really good. My one complaint is the plastic containers that the Mac and cheese and the gravy come in; gives the food a very weird flavor and smell. - update Friday: I had to run to the bank so I decided to stop by and get the same meal because I couldn't stop thinking about how good that chicken sandwich was. When I got there and ordered I asked for the mac and cheese to be put in cardboard container instead. The staff members informed me that they had actually fixed that problem and I asked if they saw my yelp review from Tuesday. They said yes and they investigated everything and fixed the problem. How awesome is that, a company that truly care about its quality and promptly address any issues. The food here is stellar, but the real gem is the staff! Thank Flew the Coup for being awesome!

Not bad fried chicken sandwich, not the best in town but solid. Also tried the chicken parm and that was different chicken. The fried chicken sandwich seemed like a made to order thick breast but not sure about the chicken parm it was very flat and uniformed in thickness. It was okay but not much depth in flavor.

Holy crap I love this place, the buffalo chicken sandwich, mac & cheese, and garlic fries are my kryptonite. Are they still open? It looks like they were temporarily closed. That would be a heck of a bummer.
