26 Essential Stops on Your Michigan Road Trip | Eater

"Whatever you may already know about Flint, you’re likely to learn something new on a visit to the thriving Flint Farmers Market. A year-round destination that brings makers and growers of all kinds — farmers, bakers, fashion designers, florists, and restaurateurs — the market is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and its success has been viewed by some as a symbol of the city’s rebirth. Start with a meal at Steady Eddy’s Cafe, MaMang Vietnamese restaurant, or B-Dogs for a hot dog, and then pick up some snacks for the road, like gourmet popcorn or fresh donuts and maybe a locally made souvenir or two." - Vox Creative

Went to Sweet Peaces for some vegan eats. Had the lentil soup and the vegan snickers! They were both amazing! The woman who helped us - great customer service! The rest of the Market was busy, and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many of the kiosk-keepers made eye contact and greeted us as we passed by. A very welcoming experience for us 'out-of-towners'.

Google
Love this new farmer's market, something new every week, and definitely something for everyone. It is a great step up for Flint. Can't wait for our next visit.

Google
Fresh food, local art, and small business love. Each stall is unique, the food has heart, and everything is so affordable! A festival of Flint but indoors.

Google

Google
We had our wedding ceremony and reception here. Venue and staff are amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an event space with endless possibilities for implementing your own style in your event. The park across the street, as well as the street itself, make perfect places for event photography. Thanks to Janelle, Helen and Karen for making our wedding process magical

Google
Steady Eddie's has the best fruits and veggies! This is one of their fruit tray/salads. So good!

Mona

Google
Well, I love the vibrancy surrounding the place, The inside vendors are awesome, and of course, Steady Eddie's continues to provide great food for all of our family, including our tvegans. However, I don't go there very often! And the reason for that is that there is hardly any fresh farm produce outside!! There are a few inside, but that is a mixed situation, as I am seeing commercial grown produce, possibly mixed With home grown, it's hard to tell… Not really interested in sorting through... Before the move, we were steady customers, enjoying a wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables… What has happened? I know it's early in the season, but in the last few years, it doesn't seem to get better as the season progresses. It appears that we have to look elsewhere… I love downtown Flint now… This is so sad…

Google
This was a beautiful farmer’s market. There was plenty of space to move around. It was extremely clean. The was a great variety of different shops and some beautiful, art and plants.

Yelp
Great place to go for lunch and pick up stuff to make dinner later. The hot dog stand there is awesome. Get a flint dog. Better than detroit chili dog. Less messy. Made lovingly by the hostess, bring some back for your work friends. The bolivian place in the back has some great little meat pies too. The apple guys baked goods are as good as my grandmas.
google avatar

Yelp
good collection of food stands and i liked the t-shirt stand (not enough sizes tho; sold out)) parking available, flint is definitely getting better
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by on a Saturday morning to get some peaches for some peach pie bars. The quality of the fruit was great and the prices were easily laid out so I understood what I was buying and portion size. The market was a little busy but most people were just window shopping, the lines were short and we had quick service.

Yelp
This place is adorable and now I want to come here again and again. We frequent Eastern Market and decided to check out this place. It is actually not too far of a drive for us and looks like an excellent place to go eat a nice lunch. I was so happy to have stumbled upon this place since I had not known that Flint had a Farmer's Market. While it is relatively small, there are so many fun finds crammed into this space. The food vendors all sound so good I kind of want to eat my way around this place. I tried an incredible arepa chicken sandwich sample, I would go back there for a whole one. They also had a Middle Eastern sandwich shop that looked good, and Pho place I definitely want to try, and a hotdog place that sounds pretty enticing. Their cute coffee shop looks good, I am kicking myself for not trying their cold brew with eggnog cold foam. There were several baked good stations. Crush was there, which I am already a fan. I really wanted one of their donuts and some bread. Some market donut shop, and ice cream place, a bakery in the corner with some great prices and delectably looking cookies, and I believe a gluten free baked goods place. So many little fun crystal shops to look at with adorable gifts. I bought some fun earrings as a gift. They also had a store from the children's museum that might be connected to the building. Upstairs they had an enticing bar I wanted all of their holiday drinks, maybe next time. I was most excited to see and meet the Grinch! I love the Grinch and was coincidentally wearing my Grinch holiday sweater, what luck! So the family got some fun pictures with him. There was also a band playing Christmas music and cupcake decorating for kids. My child got to decorate cupcakes and was given a couple more to take home. This is a fun place for all and I hope to return this month or next.

Yelp
The Farmers Market has changed so much since I was a kid. The newer location is amazing and there is so much jammed packed into this area. We stopped by to get salads from Tee's which is always on point. I've gotten spuds, cinnamom rolls (and yes, I meant cinnamom), and a few other things from here. It is a nice location and they are open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday! Enjoyable way to spend the day!

Yelp
Who knew Flint Farmer's Market was amazing? Not me! I was here today on my way up north and was so happy to realize what a fabulous place this is. Pulling in, there's ample parking close to the facility and it seems to be reasonably secure. The place itself is clean, well maintained and has tons of vendors. While not the biggest location, probably the best farmers market I've seen in a long time, maybe ever. They have a few different vendors here along with plenty of food. Mostly inside with some outside booths as well. Things like spices, honey, vegetables, and much more. They also have some really good places to eat here as well, but most don't open until 10:30. They have BBQ, hot dogs and a few others. Overall a very clean, well maintained spot in the heart of Flint. Thank you for whoever maintains and runs this place because it really is a fabulous spot in a city that isn't always known for being great.

Yelp
This farmers market is stinking cute, I absolutely love it! It's a shame I'm located so far away from it, but I definitely want to split my time going between here & Eastern Market. I'm sort of situated right in between these two. Even though Eastern Market will always be my favorite, I think Flint is a close second & so dang impressive because it's a huge indoor building as well as lots of outdoor space for the good weather times, so it's open year round & multiple times throughout each week as well & very feasible to visit year round as well without needing to brace for the cold weather. There is so much incredible variety in here with tons & tons of vendors for all kinds of goods. In addition to a ton of produce vendors, they also have delicious food options (Vietnamese, hot dogs, baked potatoes...!, lemonade, etc.), a regular plant vendor, artisans, wine store, Michigan goods store, the list goes on and on! There was even a vendor outside of the farmers market building selling knockoff designer brand purses & bags that he gets from NYC, which was so hilarious to see! All in all, I love this farmers market & will be coming back here often, especially during the off season, to shop & you all should too.

Yelp
I'm so impressed by how Flint is really turned around downtown so people feel safe to eat and relax without worry.

Yelp
The new feel and look of Flints new farmers market is awesome. I found myself coming here several times during my most recent visit at home.. Can't say enough about how much Flint needs more things like this. Being able to get fresh produce and connect with local vendors was really dope. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Our whole family always enjoys going to the farmers market. We love the Shawarma place And tried some of the slab pies from McCarrons orchard and they were SO delicious. A whole pie is only $10! The cherry and strawberry rhubarb slab pie were awesome.
google avatar

Tamika B.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab some loaded potatoes & found several places to support. They have a crystal/sage store, a place that sells gluten free cookies that were excellent. My son got a pack of cookies and zucchini bread from one place & last but not least a Oreo cinnamon roll that he's been talking about since.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of farmer's markets and this one was worth the drive. There was plenty of fabulous fresh produce for sale outside, and a huge variety of different things for sale inside. We didn't make it up to check out the tap house, so we'll have to hit it next time, it was a little too early in the day for beers when we visited. The food options were endless! Several food trucks were outside, and many restaurants/stalls selling food inside. We tried Mac and cheese (it was tasty but cold) and some hot dogs, which were excellent. We wandered through the rest of the facility and explored some small stores, took some cookies for dessert later. Great way to spend an afternoon and get a good meal!

Yelp
This is a very nice gem in downtown Flint. It's only open on certain days (currently Tu, Th, Sa), so check before you go. Quite an assortment of fresh meats, fruits, vegetables from local farmers. Also plenty to go cooked and fresh foods. Many food styles to choose from and also gifts, cheeses and hand made items. I had a very good Mean Green vegetable juice from the hard working family of Willows Garden Juice Bar, an awesome chicken and shrimp Cobb salad freshly made by the fine folk of Tee's Plentiful Salads and a couple Kaiser hotdogs from B Dogs. Do yourself a favor and take a look around. It's now my go to place when in Flint. Go early for a good selection.
google avatar

Deb M.

Yelp
This certainly isn't the biggest Farmers Market I've been to but the variety is really great. Produce, soap, BBQ, bagels and let's not forget the delicious breads from Crust! Everyone is very friendly and I really enjoyed talking to all of the vendors. The organic produce shop is a favorite for their delicious salad dressings!! We have yet to eat there but they have some great choices and I look forward to sampling them on my next visit! If you're looking for something fun to do for a couple hours on a Saturday check it out. I love Farmer's Markets and the great thing about them is discovering new places and meeting new people!!!
google avatar

Yelp
As someone who used to frequent the old location of the Famers Market, I was totally blown away by the new venue. It's at least two to three times the size, and the space is used so well! I love the big open area off to the side that has a bunch of small tables, inviting patrons to sit down and chat/drink coffee/eat any recently purchased snacks -- the old market only had a few picnic tables outside, which was fine for summer months but not so great the rest of the time. You'll find some of the vendors from the old market here (the egg guy, Steady Eddy's, Great Harvest Bread, DeVine Wines (sp?), Thompson Creek Turkey Farm), as well as some awesome new additions (here's looking at you, Gourmet Apple Cart and Crust bakery!). I have yet to try the any of the eateries here, but it looks promising! A middle Eastern place, BBQ cuisine, a vendor that sells sushi rolls and rice bowls... and last week I even saw a food truck outside selling pho! This place definitely warrants many return visits!
google avatar

Zainab S.

Yelp
After living in the area for 3 years, I finally made it out to this market on a rainy day. I typically enjoy farmers' markets for the fresh produce and flowers, but this one had very few options. The winning vendor in my opinion was a cheese supplier near the front entrance. They had a ton of choices and they cut as much as you want and sell it by the pound. My favorite was the buffalo chipotle cheddar- so good!
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
I fell in love. I never wanted to leave. Therefore, we went and then hit the theater across the street for the Spring Dance and then went back to the market. There are so many great vendors!! And everyone is so nice! I felt like we were making friends with everyone! I bought 6 for $5 bagels at the end of the day sale at Bagels and Beans...Not to mention a good coffee there on our first trip. Ate Chicken Pho and spring rolls at MaMang. The bowl was HUGE!! Bought BBQ brats at J Deans Sausage and Jerky. Loved every sample there and the girls were just the sweetest! Bought a White Cheddar and Garlic bread at Great Harvest because I fell in love with that sample. Bought Chocolate Dipped Oreos. Hey, paycheck...it was nice knowing ya.

Yelp
How did it take me so long to check out this gem within the city? The farmers market has everything you could think of - fresh produce (sooooo much more reasonable than Chicago prices), crystals, candles, sweet treats, the list goes on. I picked up a natural soap that will have me smelling heavenly...in approximately three weeks from this post, as that is how long the man told me to wait. I also tried pho for the first time at MaMang, which was pretty tasty. Funny enough, I purposely ordered it with no spice and immediately wanted more kick. What can I say, I'm in my mid-30's and heartburn is a thing... Don't forget to check out Market Tap too. On a beautiful, clear day, it's a great place to have a patio drink with a view of downtown Flint.

Yelp
Spectacular Spudz -Omg soooooooo good!!! I'm visiting for the holiday weekend and my aunt was telling me about this place and boy oh boy was she right !! Best tasting potato ever !! And the customer service was so amazing i would highly recommend to anyone whose looking for a delicious , feeling great priced meal
google avatar

Marissa P.

Yelp
Spectacular Spudz in the Farmers' Market was soooo AMAZING! Best potatos I've ever had. They are delicious and the ingredients taste very fresh, something you'd expect from an establishment in a Farmers' Market.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Huge fan of this market and then add steady eddies for food and lemonade that's like crack we are all good. Had the smoked salmon club minus the bacon the smoke on the salmon was amazing....the dill dressing incredible, I chose toasted rye but whatever u want it would be great. Love this place.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Everyone was so nice and helpful I will definitely come back quality is great! So many different things that you can buy and also have ready made food! They also have plants there!
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
The "Mexican food" here is pitiful but otherwise I really enjoyed it. The parking was actually not bad for a Saturday, with people coming and going. Would definitely stop again should I be in the area
google avatar

Sharina J.

Yelp
Another amazing morning at the Farmers Market! The Flint Ingredient Company is my favorite spot. All of their products are organic and reasonably priced. You can't beat the taste of a fresh tomato or some of their organic noodles! I also enjoy several other places in the Farmers Market such as the donut place....please do yourself a favor and get some cinnamon donuts while they are hot! Beirut is a great place to have lunch if you have time to relax in the cafeteria area. Oh and please please please don't forget to get yourself a nice bottle of wine for the weekend from the wine shop!
google avatar

Shane L.

Yelp
The hot dog cart is amazing and the market is always well stocked. Love the extra events and design of the market
google avatar

Rod W.

Yelp
We stopped here to kill an hour of time and I think we easily could have spent 3-4 hours here. Tons of little shops to buy goods from. Each shop is individually ran. The prices were average. We stopped and had a quick bite to eat at the hotdog shop. This offered about 8-10 different types of dogs. The worker was pleasant and the dogs were fresh and good . Some unique kinds to try for far less than what you would pay at a ball park. We also tried a bagel. Not as many samples as I would have hoped for but we ended up buying a few things to eat at home
google avatar

Jacqueline P.

Yelp
We had our wedding and the Flint Farmers' Market and do not have enough amazing things to say about it! Everyone involved was so accommodating and helpful. Our day was everything we could have dreamed of and hoped for. We are so lucky that we chose to have our wedding at the Farmers' Market!

Yelp
Being an outsider and having moved to Detroit 8 years ago or so, here's what you hear about Flint: There's nothing there. We here it doesn't have a lot of money and not much to the city, so it's never been a destination for us. However, we had to transport some cats for adoption to Flint over the weekend, so we decided to stop and check the place out. I did a google search and there wasn't much there, one of the 'to do' items being Saginaw st. Well, we took the exit for Saginaw and saw nothing - we ended up at a Panera bread and had about decided to go to Frankenmuth, when I said let's follow it the other direction. There had to be something, right? It's a good thing we did. There isn't much to the downtown Flint area but the University and a few taverns, but we did find the Market and what a score. The place was busy and it could be perfectly described as eclectic. There were people selling produce but there were also all the things you hope to find. Specialty shops with artisan foods, candles and the like. It isn't a big place but they manage to pack a lot into it. There are 'food stands throughout with Sushi, Pho food & Mexican and even a place serving beer. For us it was busy but not too busy. If you are in the area, even passing through, it's worth a stop,.
google avatar

Tamara Y.

Yelp
I was a huge fan of the old Flint Farmer's market. I want to like this place more than I do, but it just doesn't have the appeal of the old farmer's market. It's more hipster soap maker and breadmaker and less farmer's market. At the end of the day, a farmer's market should be about the things a farmer brings to market -- fruits and vegetable, meat, maybe cheese. The new place seems a whole heap more commercial. You can actually buy sushi, toys and Tupperware here. At least Steady Eddy's is still there!
google avatar

Chris V.

Yelp
3/22/17 - Can be difficult to find parking during peak time which seems to be lunch time during the week Excellent farmers market. They have everything from fresh meats & produce to jewelry and clothes. Many different types of baked goods, meats, sauces, cheeses, etc. Something for everyone. There are quite a few places to dine as well. This place gets packed at lunch time with all of the local workers trying to grab a bite. Its worth stopping by
google avatar

Alyssa V.

Yelp
This market is a gem. Part farmers market, part artisan goods market, and part food hall, the FFM has so much to offer! I love the hummus at the Lebanese restaurant and they even have a crust outpost. It's he perfect spot to grab lunch and some local produce or meat to take home for other meals. If only it were open every day! Also, parking can be tricky at lunch time so consider local street parking.
google avatar

Ladel L.

Yelp
The new and improved market is amazing. Vendors with all kinds of fresh food. Moreover, meeting space to accommodate parties and meetings. You definitely will walk out of the door with SOMETHING in your hand. Be prepared to park on the street because the lot is always full.
google avatar

Tracie H.

Yelp
Oh where to begin? Well I adore divine wines, they truly are named correctly. I always find what I need for the occasion and more! Oh the imports. I was sad, as I haven't been here for 2 years, only time and discover that Thompson's Turkey Farm is gone. It was the sixth person that I asked who told me the owner died and that the two stores, as well as the "booth," at the market was now CLOSED. OH turkey jerky my heart bleeds for you. Mr. Thompson I won't forget your culinary innovation!
google avatar

Deezy C.

Yelp
Wow this place is AMAZING. One of the best farmer's market i've ever been to hands down. Very nice and clean. So many small restaurants and sweets stands to check out i was amazed. I had to stop by Crust bakery and Cinnamom to pick up a few items. I was a very happy camper! Theres also a fruit market here too but not many people were around because they're too busy at the sweet and savory stands lol. I just wish this farmer's market was closer to where i live but than again, i think its a good thing because it can be quite dangerous being close to sweet/bakery galore. If you're ever around here, make sure to stop by and check it out!

Ta'Mika M.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in the city. From Those Nature People to MaMang, The Farmers Market is full of hidden gems of the city.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
I frequented the old farmer's market before they moved where they are now and liked it but the new is the BOMB. It's super open and organized and has vendors carrying everything from wine, fresh fruit & produce, to meats and cheeses, body products, bagels, and donuts. There are also several small food restaurants including Steady Edy's *great sandwiches* and a fantastic place to get fresh made (daily) pita chips and hummus. My only wish would be for more hours. Currently only open Tues, Thur and Sat I think. I am local and would love to spend more time there perusing on a lunch break or whatever.
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
Such an amazing addition to Downtown Flint. I love the building, the location, and the energy. The all stars are: The Local Grocer, Godfreys Chicken, Hoffmans Chop Shop, Hot Cups Coffee, D'vine Wines, Crust, and Wraps 'n Rolls food truck. I left a star because there is room for improvement. I think the market is busy, and will be very busy throughout this summer. With the potential profits for vendors, each space should be occupied by high quality vendors. With a market this great, everything should be top notch. Don't waste my time with bagels made at Big Apple, overpriced produce that is the exact same product sent to Kroger, and prepared food vendors who's food is not near as good as the food trucks outside. All in all it is a great market. It makes downtown feel like the community we all love. Tuesday's and Thursday's are my favorite days to be at work.
google avatar

Flint S.

Yelp
Friendly people, good food, family atmosphere, couldn't ask for a better experience. Check out LeeAy's, Bushel's and Pecks when you go visit you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Merrie J.

Yelp
Keep it local. Great produce, great options. Check out the wine store; I like red.

Joe C.

Yelp
Smelly, Stinky, disgusting place!!! Could NOT stand the smell of onions and cabbage and beer. NOT worth our time or effort to go out of our way to shop. NOTHING special.
google avatar

Tracie E.

Yelp
I love this place! We make sure to go down there every Saturday for lunch and to shop for fresh produce easy to shop friendly people love the atmosphere!
google avatar

Regina T.

Yelp
Flint, I like you! I also like soup. Instead of waxing lyrical about the whole Flint Farmers Market (and there's plenty to wax about...it's such a cool spot full of great vendors), I would like to talk about soup. 1. Sweet Peaces Vegan Bistro: Hidden away past the wine corner, and across the way from the open space/seating area where they sometimes have events and a vintage ware/homemade goods vendor, lives the most comforting vegan soup, waiting to make your acquaintance. Garlic Potato, Tomato, Cauliflower...they are all somewhat blended (not chunky), and all equally delicious. (Also try their Tempeh Chicken Salad. Oo, mama.) 2. The Soup Vendor near the Juice People Who May also sell Sushi?: This guy. Man, this guy always has the most delicious sounding soups, but who always breaks my heart by being sold out. Apparently, people buy out whole pots. He was kind enough to scrape the bottom of the pot and let me try samples, and the Mushroom concoction, as well as the Tomato variety, were phenomenally flavorful. Sorry I forget the specific names, though, but look for all the Asian goodies and the big soup menu. I will be back one day, and early.
google avatar

S R.

Yelp
My only knock on this place is that I wish they were open more often. The choices of restaurants in the market are great, I love the potato place I thinks it's called Spectacular Spudz. Great place to take anyone for lunch or a quick bite after work.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Top notch market! Vendors are so friendly, food is fresh and the restaurants are excellent. There's plenty of parking and it's in a great location downtown now. You could spend a few hours here. It's the best!
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
This place continues to amaze. Great fun, love the free samples lol You must try the best peanut butter and jelly doughnut from the CRUST and of course my wife is a lover of the Wildtree booth where she buys a ton of seasonings that she can actually eat. We are told that the BBQ ribs in the back of the Market are awesome but will need to visit there on another trip. If you haven't been there then you must go!!
google avatar

Susie M.

Yelp
I grew up in metro Detroit and we have some good farmers markets. Eastern market and Royal Oak are pretty good. This one is the best by far. So many more venders and good prices. The people are friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Bethany G.

Yelp
As i miss the old market the new one has many more vendors and i never leave empty handed. They vendors that also made the switch kept the same quilty of their items they may have even upped their game. The new vendors have met the high quality of the market and if you haven't been there you are truly missing out.
google avatar

Cory H.

Yelp
I love the Flints Famers' Market! There are some many different things to see. The facilities is clean and neat, and the people are very friendly.
