Flippers Cooked Seafood

We finally got a chance to try out Flippers on our last in Hobart for dinner. We got there around 6pm on a Saturday night. A little bit of a line up but they are super efficient at getting through the orders. It came up in about 10 minutes. We ordered the Family Meal Deal for $48. 2 battered flake, 4 calamari rings, 4 potato cakes and large chips. All super fresh and cooked extremely well. There is the opportunity to shake sea or chicken salt and apply vinegar at the seperate pick up window. You may have to duck down to order and pick up depending on the tide height - all part of the experience. There are plenty of seating options nearby to enjoy the deep fried bounty.

Top quality seafood can be found at Constitution Dock. Plenty of options available with a number of vendors there. I chose Flippers and grabbed their package of Deep Fried seafood goodness. Cooked to perfection and on a crisp and chilly afternoon it topped a perfect afternoon.

Got the daily special of crumbed whiting and chips. Beautifully cooked. Season it yourself to your liking with their little station and off you go. $18

Fast service, large serving of fish and chips. The chips are cooked nicely and as is the fish although it is a bit oily. Nice tartare sauce at an extra cost

We bought the fish n chip of the day as recommended on a piece of paper stuck at the order counter. 18 bucks and plus 2.5 for a little box of tartar sauce. Ok quality, not the best though with a few little bones we gotta be careful of.

Best crumbed whiting and potato cakes! The tide was out and a real unique experience ordering and picking up our meals. Awesome fish n chip joint!

There's nothing better than sitting by the harbor ☺️ enjoying fish and chips while the cool weather and warm sun create the perfect ambiance for your meal 🤩 I might be exaggerating a bit but if you have some time to spare or are visiting Hobart for the first time, I think it's a great experience 😉 The fish is fresh and delicious with a wide variety of options to suit your taste. Overall, I was very impressed 💕

When I was scouting the waterfront on my first evening, I noticed a sizable dinner crowd in front of this restaurant. I decided to dine here as I wanted to stay by the waterfront on my last day. I ordered the T42 which must take longer to prepare than the other menu items. There were a coupe customers who ordered after me but got their orders first. Although a lot of food, I was not too impressed with the T42. The flakes were lacking any significant flavor unless steaming hot is considered a flavor. I enjoyed eating the crab sticks only because they were a novelty. I never had crab legs battered and fried. The chips were okay but I had tastier ones earlier in the week. As for the large crowds I had been observing during the week, the restaurant is the nearest to the sidewalk and accepts major credit cards. Plus, it's a novelty to order from a boat docked.

Very average. But the positives are that they are fast with a fryer and you won't be standing in line for long. Downsides: cardboard tasting batter, dried crumbing. The chips are also not crash hot which is a shame as it can be a fish and chip shop redeeming quality. Keep in mind, these guys are on a barge and they tend to have a line up as well. But if you enjoy your fish and chips, try somewhere else.

Quick and easy fish and chips on the water. The fact that this (and other establishments) float on the water freaks me out a little, but that probably relates to the fact that a) I can't swim and b) I think drowning would be a terrible way to go. Flippers is the closest one to the road, and thus generates a lot of traffic. Their products are actually good, but if you get something battered, be prepared for a total grease-fest. The potato scallops are tiny disks of evil, and I would not recommend them. This is disappointing, because I particularly like potatoes. There's no dining in option for these guys, but there are some convenient chairs nearby, and if you're not feeling lazy it's only a short walk to find a patch of grass at Salamanca or near the Cenotaph.

The crusted fish made from travella is delicious, the food comes fast and the location is great for people visiting downtown. That said, other items I had (crab sticks, dim sim, and fries) were fair. I'd say give it a try if you want fish and chips to go downtown, but not as a foodie detour.

We went with high expectations after sussing this place out during the afternoon and seeing the steady flow of business. The potential is there with a lovely location on the water. The menu looked promising however we were disappointed. They mucked up our order which we unfortunately didn't realize until we sat down to eat back at the hotel. The unordered fish was dry and chewy. The trevalla which was on the order was good. The chips were nothing special nor were the fish bites or crab stick. The scallops were plump and juicy which made them the star of the show. Unfortunately I couldn't comment on the coleslaw as it didn't make an appearance.

Came here for a quick bite to eat whilst working an expo over at the Chancellor. Was keen to try it as I had heard so much! The fish was ok nothing special to be honest. I felt like there was too much batter and not enough fish. The fish was more like fish cocktails not one large piece of fish which was a bit annoying. The fish cake was a disappointment too it was just like a frozen fish cake. All up I spent $20 and it just wasn't worth unfortunately.

What a funny little place, where the order window moves with the tide and there are only as many choices as you can count on your hands. No bother, the fish and chips are cheap and plentiful and served right on the dock which gives at least the illusion of freshness. In a city where food is served at standard hours and is quite expensive in the middle of town, this is a nice cheaper option.

Stopped here after a long day on a tour. There was a huge line but that a good thing, right! I was told it would be 20 minutes. They call numbers in random order, I was 12 once they go to the 20's I went up and asked why I hadn't been called yet, turns out they missed my number. I finally got my food 49 minutes later, the guy apologized profusely and gave me a free soda. I never did eat the food as I was so tired and sick by that time I just crashed in my hotel room... I noticed there were 2 other people who's numbers were missed as well.

Chose Flippers over the other 3 next to it solely because it had the most people outside. Battered flake was bland. Very little batter. One was almost raw and had to be thrown out. Chips were a disaster! You know when you get kfc and keep it for the next day and try to heat up the chips? That's what these were like - yesterday's reheated chips.

A pirate's treasure chest of seafood, mostly all fried and absolutely solid in quality. Some good variety in the choice of combinations, and the batter used is light enough that the seafood remains the star, fairly unadulterated (you know, considering you just had it coated and dunked in a very warm bath of oil). One combo is likely enough to share with someone. We made the mistake of ordering two baskets, which was way too much food. While our hotel had a refrigerator, I don't think any of the food would have stored very well. So we stuffed ourselves to the gills (oh...ha ha!), not wanting to waste our purchase. Even light batter gets a little heavy and dreary after eating that much food, so order wisely.

Good selection, reasonable serving sizes (not too big) and not overly oily if you order the crumbed fish not the battered fish. Plus you get the fun novelty of ordering from a floating shop!

We ordered fish&chips - trevalla and flakes. Both were free of taste and hard to chew. And the chips weren't cooked enough. So - this were our worsest fish & chips ever! $25.50 for the rubbish bin! Sorry!
