Portland Food Writers and Personalities Share the Restaurant Debuts They’re Waiting for in 2024 | Eater Portland

"I'm curious to see what sort of impact Flock, the food hall planned for the Ritz-Carlton's ground floor, will have — whether Portlanders will venture to the ultra-luxe hotel just for a bite or whether it will primarily expose tourists to our food scene." - Eater Staff

Nice location. Kayla, the new general manager, is making changes to the drink and food menu. The burgers are huge, and the salmon bites are delicious. You definitely should give The Flock a try.

Incredibly delicious! Our server was excellent and attentive. This restaurant is clean and the food was incredible. Loved the burger, it was HUGE and the fries were great. Loved this crab dip appetizer we shared too-- bread was perfect amount of soft and crunchy. ❤️ can't wait to go back again, really loved everything about coming here today

The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious! The drinks were made to perfection! The playlist was nostalgic. The employees were wonderful! Kyla (spellcheck) and Courtney were amazing! Thank you ladies for making our first visit memorable! The location was not hard to find either! It looks small but it’s VERY spacious! 🥂

I got there about 5mins to 7pm for a party on a Saturday. It was dark inside on the 1st floor bar area. Like, date night dark. Definitely not a party or sports bar vibe. The bartender was very nice/ friendly & professional. She did apologize for the lack of supplies that the bar didnt have. They didnt have a bar gun so there was no seltzer & they didnt have any behind the bar so I was drinking my drink str8 up. Cool. I ordered lemon pepper wings & they came out w/ a wet cream sauce. Clearly NOT lemon pepper but the server said it was. I bit a wing and they were chilly & hard. I ate the skin off that one wing & sent them away. They were NASTY. Could have been bcuz I was expecting lemon pepper wings & they gave me something else. Could have been the old chicken or the flavor of the sauce, idk. It was gross. The bartender apologize and I order honey old bay wings to replace those. They were even worst. I bit a drum & the whole bone broke apart in my mouth, all the chicken is old. U can taste it, the texture of the meat, the sauce they use to try to cover it. Gross. The blue cheese they gave me look like frosting, I sent it all back & jus drank. I won't be going back. The bar staff if great but they need to get rid of the cook or management.

From the moment we walked in, the experience was underwhelming. No one greeted us initially, and when someone finally did, they casually told us to “sit anywhere.” Every table we considered was wobbly, as were the chairs, making it difficult to settle in comfortably. We were served tap water from a glass bottle and given extra cups, even though the table was already set. The cups they brought were spotted and clearly not clean. We ordered wings, which had good flavor, and appreciated that they provided both ranch and blue cheese when we asked for ranch 🙄. Unfortunately, that was the highlight. Our espresso martinis were served in water glasses—not martini glasses—and oddly made with whiskey (says it on the menu so gave it a try). I ordered the chicken and waffles, only to find they used the same party wings from the appetizer as the chicken. That’s not how chicken and waffles should be done. My guest ordered the catfish meal but had to switch to shrimp and grits since they were out. The shrimp portion was generous, but the dish was completely unseasoned and bland. Service was painfully slow—nearly two hours from start to finish. We had to ask for every basic condiment: hot sauce, syrup, ranch. Meals were served with plastic utensils, while other tables had silverware, showing a lack of consistency or care. Worst of all, a gratuity was added automatically for just two people, despite poor service. 10/10 would not return.

Yelp
Visited this Wonderful Black- owned, woman run establishment and had an awesome time! The food was AMAZING and made with fresh ingredient's ! Drinks were also very good. Can't believe I didn't know about it sooner! My favorites that I tried during my visit were the Catfish sandwich, the Rasta Pasta with jerk salmon (pasta was more garlic forward than jerk but still bomb), honey old bay wings, the Cajun salmon was also great! Highly recommend checking them out! Perfect to catch a game, date night or celebrate with friends. It's a very clean and nicely decorated sports bar/ restaurant in pig town.

Yelp
Really was excited to try this place for brunch/lunch since I saw it on IG. The location is so random to me but there was parking so that was good. We came in and it was quite empty but we were greeted by the bartender. I immediately saw that you would have to order drinks by soda can (ok cool). The menu was VERY LIMITED. I could count on one hand how many options you have to choose from (maybe all 10 fingers). We did not order drinks, as soon as I was about to I saw the bartender making a mimosa with orange juice that comes in the gallon jug from dollar tree. I was immediately turned off. I ended up ordering the chicken and waffle which was good but I ate and left. I would not return, the vibes aren't on my level as far as products used and the ambiance was kind of weird too. Like ghostly. At least I can say I tried.

Yelp
Dining with a couple of friends, we meet at Flock to enjoy the good vibes, karaoke, and delicious food. I enjoyed the catfish and grits. Perfectly crisp catfish and creamy grits were delicious. My besties enjoyed chicken and waffles and a burger. One of the orders was about slow coming out but the server kept her informed about the wait and gave her a complimentary cocktail while she waited. The karaoke was an added bonus. From the DJ to the entertaining patrons, Flock is a fun place to go to for brunch on a Saturday. Several attended sang sings which for the

Yelp
Fun Ravens night thanks to Kaia. My wife and I ended up going to the Flock in pig town to watch the ravens vs bengals and we definitely had a good time thanks to Kaia the general manager. She was very hospitable and provided great recommendations when It came to the drinks. We ordered a french 75 and an espresso martini. The espresso martini was crafted well. It had a great balance of sweetness and bitterness and the crema topping which confirmed It was shaken well. Kaia definitely did not lie when she said she knows how to make a good espresso martini. I ordered the catfish sandwich but forgot to take a picture. It was cooked well but the fries were phenomenal. I'll allow my wife to share her review but overall we will come back

Yelp
Love the name and the theme. I sat at the bar, ordered a few items, food was just ok. I tried the Whiskey flight and each option was nice. Our bartender was so nice and welcoming.. this place has good potential for football approaching.

Yelp
So happy to find this excellent gem in my neighborhood! Flock was previously a few other bar/restaurants I've visited but never had an urge to return. The same won't be true of Flock. The management in charge of Flock has done an amazing job with a renovation and menu. There are huge murals of ravens on the first and second floors. The music playing throughout was at a conversational level (actually could have been a pinch louder) and there were a bunch of high tables and chairs on the first floor in addition to the seating at the long bar. Some friends and I visited and enjoyed excellent customer service for the duration. I excitedly placed an order for the cauliflower steak. It was awesome to see a variety of menu options, including vegan foods. The drink menu was extensive, though I didn't check it out so much as I drink little. My friend ordered a cocktail and was very pleased with it. I was over the moon when my food came out! The presentation was spectacular and I couldn't wait to dig in! Everything was very well seasoned and super tasty, though the food was lukewarm when it arrived at the table. I don't usually do dessert but I saw Flock offered Taharka Brothers ice cream, so I went with a scoop of that, which was amazing per the usual. Oh, and the bathrooms in this place are a dream! My friends and I spent some time talking to the owners of Flock, and were super impressed with their plans for the restaurant. I'm looking forward to seeing all the great things Flock will bring to Pigtown. Definitely returning and definitely recommend (I've already raved to some other Pigtown residents!)!!!

Yelp
This bar is so cute, it even has a second floor. First, love the name and the proximity to M&T Bank Stadium. Also, the location is convenient with lots of free street parking.I was a party. I was part of a party of six and everyone enjoyed their food and their drinks. I highly recommend the salmon slider. It was so perfectly seasoned. I could eat that every day.

Yelp
Went here for a Saturday brunch. The crab dip was good and we enjoyed the drinks selection. The catfish and grits was excellent! It had its own little twist since it was a southern-fried chicken style batter instead of a cornmeal batter. The brunch burger was also good and the service was friendly and excellent. It was a pleasant experience but there were no other people there. It was really hot in there at first though as they had the AC off, didn't enjoy that part. It did feel a little strange though; the place is trying to be a night club and a brunch place--I don't think you can do both.

Yelp
The Flock is a cute newly opened bar, about 6 weeks. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. We tried many options, but the most notable items were the salmon bites, lightly fried, tender and juicy on the inside. Truffle Mac was also delicious! I tried the Purple Rain cocktail, tasted great but no alcohol., it was like drinking a flavored watered down ginger ale. The service was very fast, we ordered and food came out quickly, our servers were nice and checked on us regularly.

Yelp
Nice little push party vibe for happy hour without being too much. Drinks were good and the bartenders were sweet. The salmon bites were really good

Yelp
I give 1 star to the atmosphere and 1 star to the Dj. Everything else was lackluster. My group ordered mimosas. I tried the jerk chicken and sweet potato waffles and the crab fries. Both dishes were mid, not even a good mid just mid. Fries are soggy. Sweet potato waffles was a great idea but the way it's made or cooked made it mid. The Chicken with the waffle dish was excellent, it had taste and crunchiness. I also tried the honey old bay wings and that was a 5/5. Servers were nice but are missing that thinking ahead part of serving. For example, I ordered jerk chicken (chicken didn't even have jerk on it) and waffles you expect there to be syrup with it but there wasn't so I had to ask. The people I was with ordered their wings with ranch but only the wings came, you had to ask for the ranch. Also I have gone to alot of mimosa serving places and bottomless ones too. And they usually charge by the bottle (if in a group) Even thought I had an 8 oz cup of mimosa the whole time I was there I got charged $35. Crazy to think I just paid 35 dollars for 5oz of orange juice and 3 oz of the bottle selection they had. Therefore, I won't be headed back

Yelp
It was ok, not anything too crazy. Drinks are fine. Parking is in a neighborhood street.
