Highland Yards? So this 'Highland Heights' thing is really sticking around, huh? Okay. I'll play along. Part of my consternation is that if you told me [redacted] years ago that 'Highland Heights', 'Highland Yards' and cute coffee shops would be a fixture of this part of East Nashville I would have laughed at you. And, I would have been wrong. Whatever and however all this came to be, it's here and it's a pretty cool thing to behold.
As a carryover from a former life, I'm given to exploring my metro. On a Tuesday morning in early Spring, I didn't have breakfast food in my house.* So, after my morning calls, I hopped in the car and made my way to 'Highland Heights.' Abutting the other side of the tracks was an airy, sunny, fairly crowded coffee shop bustling with people. But despite the bustle, two things: parking was easy and I was greeted with a smile. I think this'll do.
After making small talk, I asked some questions about the menu, specials and what not. Rather than being put off, the barista engaged me in conversation, answered my questions and helped me to make some good decisions. I ordered, tipped and waited for my food/drink to be ready. My drink was ready first and not too terribly long after, I had my food. I smiled, thanked him and got in my car to return home. I left out a step: I got in my car and immediately took a sip of my Golden Tumeric latte. Heavenly. Healing. Gorgeous color. A muted sweetness accompanied by slight creaminess.
I tried to be mindful of my sips so as to have enough to go with my food by the time I got home. I was somewhat successful. My bagel sandwich with scrambled eggs and cheese sounded basic but it was substantial, with fluffy eggs and just the right amount of cheese. It wasn't a perfect fit with my drink but that was entirely my mistake, not F+F's.
F+F is entirely worth your time to discover and patronize. I didn't see a place like this fitting into an area like this but here it is and here we are. It's a good thing.
*Well, I didn't have breakfast food I wanted to prepare.
