"Promoting seasonal ingredients and supporting local farmers, this postage stamp of a shop has become a fixture in the Pioneer Valley. In 2022, Florence Pie Bar received a nod from New England Magazine, which named it one of the five best pie shops in New England. Biscuit sandwiches, hand pies, breads, and galettes both savory and sweet sell out quickly, so be sure to stop in early or place large orders ahead of time." - Nat Belkov

Of all the businesses in the Northampton area, I think Pie Bar is my #1 favorite. Everything is perfect: the savory and sweet offerings, the full espresso menu, the indoor and outdoor ambiance, the kindness of the employees, the proximity to the beloved bike path. Pie Bar is the place that makes me feel luckiest to live here, and I hope it stays forever. Also, the ham and cheese rolls are genius.

We ordered the blueberry lemon chess pie, sweet potato pie, and apple pear ginger crumble pie— all delicious and delicately flavored, not to mean that we were robbed of any taste! The pie crust: a challenge to cut straight through with the side of your fork, but that speaks more on the thickness than the texture. It was neither crumbly or dry and I fought very hard not to pounce on every last piece (I was sharing these with a group of friends…) Sweetness: perfect sweet treat with their coffee on the side and I really appreciated that deep ness of the flavors! The crumble pie was quite sweet, but even that slice let all of the flavors come through. I personally really liked the blueberry lemon chess pie and sweet potato pie more, but that’s my preference. Price: I was a little sad to pay $6 for a slice of pie, but it was a great way to start my afternoon and I got to spend time with friends, snacking and commenting on the pies. I would say it’s worthy of its price if you take advantage of the experience (even if by yourself! Read a book, journal)

Inventive flavors. The pastries are not too sweet. Delicious, casual cafe.

Google
Awesomely good, the BEST flaky pastry in Western MA. Only complaint is there's such limited parking but it's still always worth it. We had pies for our wedding dessert and they were a joy to work with, and everyone loved the unexpected dessert. *Also: best chai in wmass!

Google
A very cozy cafe with a nice outdoor patio. The pie (pear cherry cardamom) was good, but I wasn't wowed for the price. Still, a very fun place! Important to note that there are no non-dairy options for food (they are clear about this on their website, too!)

Google
Ok, so don't get me wrong, the savory pie at Pie bar is fantastic, obviously. Read any of the reviews below this one. BUT, have you tried a slice of the sweet pies, the rugelach, the other pastries? They are soooo good. A perfect spot for a nice quick breakfast or lunch. Staff is super nice as well. A must visit if you're in Florence.

Great pie and excellent coffee in a cozy space.

Google
By far the best pie place in the world. I am quite serious. I was born and raised in Russia and know good pie. I had all sorts of different pies all over the world from the former Soviet republics to Ireland to Africa and I have to say that this is by far the best I've ever had. They have a rotating menu so I'm always pleasantly surprised when I walk in to find new and delicious pies to try. I live near Boston so it takes me an hour and a half to get here and I don't come often so when I do I usually buy 10 pieces to go. Must try if you are anywhere in the area!!! I've been coming a few years now. They are always absolutely amazing. I just spend $100 on pies alone. I drive for 2 hours just to come here. It is absolutely a must visit place.

Yelp
This is a great little place - emphasis on the teeny, tiny. They have sweet and savory items and you'll need to taste your way through the menu bc you'll love somethings while others are just ok. I love their rugelach, chicken hand pie, and channa hand pie. I've had others a love but those are regulars. Their sweet pies are great. Not a huge fan of their brownies or brown butter cookies but they've been on the menu forever so they're clearly fan favorites. Try it. You will find things you love.

Laura D.

Yelp
Pros: -Absolutely adorable exterior & interior vibe -outdoor seating -quick service -sweet and savory options I wished there was a chocolate pie option, but there were some other chocolate sweets available and I should have tried. The hand pie we tried had a delicious buttery & flaky dough and I think I preferred it to the apple pie. If I were back in the area I'd try another hand pie and one of the chocolate offerings!

Yelp
Deliciousness all around. Coffee and pie. What's not to like. Service is quick. Smells are magnificent.

Joe S.

Yelp
I'm knocking one star off because I went at noon on a Wednesday and was told "we are completely out of pie ". This is not the first time it has happened. Which I suppose is a good thing. Their pie is in high demand. But it's a bummer when you get there and there is no pie to be had. Aside from that, they did have some delicious lunch options, including some pastries - so I had my fill. The place is impeccably clean. Including the bathroom. They have a very cute outside area that is quite spacious. It's a lovely and quite charming place that you should visit if you haven't been before or even if you have! There were plenty of friendly staff working and food was served quickly.

Benny D.

Yelp
This is one of the best places to pick your pie in the state of Massachusetts! I drive here once to twice a year from Boston to pick up something which is generally 1.5-3 hour drive depending on traffic. Here is generally my thoughts: Florence Pie use ingredients that are in seasons which also means apples aren't always available. If you plan to visit, I would order the morning you plan to get there or atleast the night before to place a to go order. Ask what is in season and what they recommend. When you get there, there is a lot things to eat there that aren't just pie. Savor pies, quiches, coffee, soups, and others available. I always enjoy getting a quick lunch there before I leave with some pies. If you are a post card writer, I would pick up some.

Trisha B.

Yelp
Super cute pie bar with sweet and savory options! Love that they change up their flavors regularly. They also sell frozen pies for you to take and bake. They sell coffee as well. There's a decent amount of seating inside and outside on their back patio. Service is always very friendly. The only downside is parking can be tight, but that's to be expected on Main St.

Mistinguette S.

Yelp
What's not to love about consistently excellent pie? I come here whenever I am in town.

R. L.

Yelp
I'm sticking with 5 stars. I was a bit worried with the change of ownership - but my fears have not been realized, thankfully. I've been in several times under the new owners and can report that the pie deliciousness continues. Just yesterday I had a cranberry chocolate chip scone. Wonderful. Moist, intensely flavorful, just the right amount of crisp on the thing. Yum. I also rounded up several of the "day old" treats - at the bargain price of $1.50. A shot in the microwave and they are as good as new :) Also, I really like what they've done with the space. Very very cute.

Leanne C.

Yelp
This place has the most delicious fresh made treats. I love that they keep their menu updated online. The German chocolate mini pies should be eaten as often as possible. I can't say enough good about them. Coffee made perfect. Love this place. I don't think you can find a better bakery

Yelp
New owners and the Bar has been lowered... The classic Pie Bar's pecan pie was legendary. I religiously pre-ordered it for holidays for several years. The custard was like no other: buttery in texture, just the right level of sweetness, and a deep, complex flavor with hints of cocoa. The crust was ample and flaky. A true delight. I am sad to report that pie of my dreams is no more. They have reduced the amount of crust; the rim is barely there and the bottom so thin it might at well be paper. Further, I believe they changed the fat mix, because the flakes are more or less gone. (Might just be rolled too thin, in their effort to shrink their crust cost.) Worst of all, the custard is now cloying, simple, and just like any other pecan pie filling I have had: boring, gelatinous, and sickly sweet. The lemon chess filling was fine, but the skimpy crust was fatal flaw. Finally, the new owners lack grace completely. They do not say thank you. They do not chat. Your thank you is met with: 'No problem'--a graceless response. We do not owe you our business! Goodbye, I will miss my delightful pies and pray for a day that someone serious about quality and appreciative of their customers opens a new shop...

Karyn K.

Yelp
Omg. Legit the BEST pie crust I have ever eaten in my life. I love pie but rarely eat the actual crust. This crust- I ate every bite. The server would only tell me it's made with butter...I want that pie crust recipe!!! I had lemon chess pie, and my son had the beef tamale savory hand pie. Both were delicious but I'm blown away by that sweet pie! Wish I lived in Florence...wait a minute, maybe it's actually a good thing I don't live here or I would be here far too often. No indoor seating, just a few tables outdoors if that matters to you.

Melissa Y.

Yelp
This is our favorite spot in the Northampton area -- new owners really improved everything:) Love the layout, service is super attentive and friendly, food is wonderful. Always new things on the menu and -- as expected -- the pie crusts are wonderful. So glad to have this here!

Abdallah G.

Yelp
This place is hazardous on the weight! You might go in for a cup of coffee. Then, you will say, well a small galette won't hurt. Maybe a cup of soup...but, it's soup that's healthy, let's go for a bowl! That needs some bread of some sort....maybe a savory pie of some sort. I walked here, that counts as exercising, I deserve that, actually, I even deserve that slice of apple pie too... OK....I feel better now. I will walk all the way home, which will burn so much more calories, maybe I will deserve another pie for later tonight or for tomorrow for breakfast?

Tim S.

Yelp
As a connoisseur of all types of pie, I eagerly awaited the chance to have a slice from the Florence Pie Bar. Was immediately disappointed that there was only takeout. On a hot summer day I did not picture having to eat my pie outside. Also- there were only three types of pie to choose from. I would've expected a place that calls them self a " pie bar" would have more than three choices??? I selected the cherry pie which was okay. Above average, but at $ 4.75 for a small-sized slice a disappointment. Not terrible, but not what I expected.

Joey B.

Yelp
My goodness these people can bake! I find it a little pricey but it makes a great indulgence

Mindy D.

Yelp
Though I love supporting a local pie business that creates inspired baked goods and everything smells like luscious butter, my biggest critique is the SIZE of a slice of pie for $5 or $5.50 which is the smallest piece of pie you will find anywhere and it will be smaller than your adult hand. Today is Mother's Day and I took pictures of the $5.50 Italian Almond Tart slice next to the $3 scone. The scone is bigger and burnt on the bottom. Does that make sense to you? I want to ask the Florence Pie Bar to use a standard pie pan that is 9 inches in diameter and 1-1/4 inches deep so charging $5 a slice would be more respectful to their loyal customers; or, reduce the prices of your tiny slices. And on a positive note, their food is delicious and the hand pies are wonderful. But if the scones are going to be bigger than the slices of pie, maybe they should rename their business the Florence Scone Bar. 50% Of the time, your baked good will be a little burnt like the bottom of my scone this morning. The staff are very nice, but the portions and prices and baking quality could have some improvements.

Yelp
I have driven by the pie bar several times and finally made it in with my daughter. We ordered the lemon ginger pie with a glass of milk and coffee. The pie was AMAZING! Although I only had 2 bites of this light, tart flavorful goodness with a graham cracker crust because my daughter at the whole thing in 38 seconds! Still hungry I went back to the counter to order apple cranberry crisp...which was served with whipped cream and ...cold. Hmmm, I guess I get not wanting to microwave made-from-scratch pies and crisps, but I think cold apple crisp is much worse than microwaved apple crisp. I ate a few spoonfuls and then gave up and took the rest home where I can warm it up later. The ambiance was great and I am sure to be back, but eating cold crisp before headed back into the cold winter made me sad :(

Angie K.

Yelp
Delicious choices of sweet & savory pies! The Lime Coconut bite was ridiculously good! Dulce De Leche cheesecake bites were phenomenal. The rhubarb pie was amazing as well. I've had a couple of savory items. Long story short, I don't think you could find a bad item here. Really, it's that good.

Charles M.

Yelp
Never open. Don't expect to be a regular here, they have the weirdest hours. I live around the corner and never go because they always seem to be closed. What is this place, a delicious front? Boo.

Amy M.

Yelp
OMG PIE! We were exploring the area during this incredibly cold weekend and as we drove by, I proclaimed "oh my god a PIE BAR... I want pie!". So we found the safest corner to turn around, parked on a side street and briskly walked (no ran) to get delicious coffee and pie. The chocolate mint was to-die-for good. My french press coffee for-one was perfection. The warm-hearted local that shared her table with us made us feel all the more welcomed. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and I swear I experience cafe ecstasy on one of the last days of 2017. Go here. Do it. If you like quaint and tasty and PIE (and seriously, who doesn't love pie??) then this is the place for you. And me. Me me me. I'd buy a house in this neighborhood just to be near the Pie Bar. (Okay maybe not, but it was amazing!)

Jamie B.

Yelp
Every pie, sweet or savory, I have gotten from here has been a standout. They have a salted chocolate and lemon chess pie that are exceptional and make a mean key lime. Great rotation keeps things fresh, always a go to when we are in the area.

Dan L.

Yelp
Delicious pies and pastries in an adorable atmosphere! We tried the ham and cheese twist, and a French meat pie- both amazing! Next time we will be in the area we will certainly be back to try something along the sweeter end. I have no doubt based on the presentation and aroma that everything here is exceptional. A gem in a lonely small western mass town

Brenda P.

Yelp
I usually love the food here, but the last two times I ordered the hand pies they weren't so good. The broccoli was way over cooked and had a sulfur smell and the crust was over cooked.

Carey L.

Yelp
We ordered a dozen pies (three different varieties) for my wedding this past weekend and they were all SO GOOD! Maura, Jess and the rest of their team accommodated my request for strawberry rhubarb (both my and my husband's favorite) and then selected two other flavors they thought would be crowd pleasers (blueberry crumb and lemon chess) and all three were a hit -- so much so that we had no leftovers. The team was friendly and organized to work with and they even delivered everything the morning of the wedding so that everything was fresh and we didn't have to stress about running errands on the day of.

Adam O.

Yelp
Love so many things on this menu. Well worth a monthly lunch for me! Pie's and much more!

Sarah D.

Yelp
Blueberry and peach pie was delicious. Savory hand pie delicately seasoned, tasty. On other visits I have added the chocolate chip cookie with my hand pie and it's a great little cookie that pops big flavor.

Steff L.

Yelp
THEEEE cutest little spot and the BESTTTTT honey thyme cheesecake, EVER! Thank you Florence Pie Bar for ruining store-bought cheesecake or even cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory for me. What am I suppose to do now that I've just found you but I'm leaving New England in literally two weeks? Saddest face ever.

Chris L.

Yelp
The pie is very tasty, though the slices are a bit on the small side. We had the strawberry buttermilk pie and the raspberry lemon pie. Both were very good. Nice staff as well.

P L.

Yelp
I bought a pumpkin pie for thanksgiving at another local place and tasted it on Wednesday. It tasted vaguely like soap, or perfumed in some way. I figured I'd use whipped cream when serving , and all would be well. After all, it cost $22. But I called the PB on thanksgiving morning, and the person who answered told me they *might* have a few pies at 11, and if they did she'd call me. She did call, and they did have a pumpkin pie. So I bought it, and IT WAS DELICIOUS with or without whipped cream. I'm so glad I did, even with the extra expense. Best pumpkin pie I can remember having.

Jessica C.

Yelp
I had a mix of sweet and savory my first trip in here with an onion potato situation and a strawberry rhubarb pie. The pie was honestly just so-so but the onion potato thing was killer! The prices were a bit high, too. My friend opted for a lemon pie slice and brought a s'more slice home for her hubs. Both looked solid. She also got a basil lemonade and said it was out of this world. I think I need to give them another shot. The pie I got was missing half of the crust and the presentation was super sloppy. I'm thinking a whole pie would make a big difference.

Dave H.

Yelp
I get that it's called a pie bar and if you're looking for a place to get a slice of pie, it's probably a great place. But for buying pies, this place never has anything in stock! The pie is pretty good when you can get it, but on too many occasions I've gone into this place and been unable to buy a pie for a dinner party or event. I'm not talking Thanksgiving, where of course it'll be tough, I'm talking some random Saturday at 1 pm. I love pie, when people ask me what my favorite food group is, I say pie. When the Pie Bar opened, I was giddy, but their ability to bake enough pies to meet demand is infuriating and I don't think I'll ever go back in - it's just always a disappoinment. Every time I drive or bike by I get excited, PIE! and every time I try to get pie, I'm disappointed. Maybe I should get there at 8 am, but when I used to go to Petsi's Pies in Somerville, they always had a host of full pies to choose from. If I got pie, I'd give five stars, but the lack of pie makes me give this place a single star, I've just been disappointed too many times.

Marissa V.

Yelp
I love coming here. Definitely a great spot to hit if you are in the area. Every time I'm out in western Massachusetts I make it a point to stop here. I always come in and order a few different slices on the menu to get a good offering of all the flavors. Every time I come the service is very fast and the customer service is great. My only complaint is I wish they had more parking. It's a quaint little local spot that everyone should try.

Lindz N.

Yelp
If you're in Florence you have to stop by Pie Bar! It was amazing. Great atmosphere and fantastic pie! We had a slice of yummy broccoli, spinach, and caramelized onion quiche and brown butter pumpkin pie! Highly recommend and has great coffee too!

Sally N.

Yelp
I stop in for savory morning delights here, usually on the weekends. What a wonderful addition to the landscape. Pie Bar offers specialty products and truly excels and I really appreciate their adventurous flavor combinations. The quiche and galette are different almost every time I stop in. The pies look amazing and I can't wait to try those too. Cheers!

Patricia A.

Yelp
Pie bar is a quaint little spot in the middle of Florence. A friend and I stopped in earlier today for a quick cup of coffee and slice of pie. She had a slice of the Shoofly, which had a gooey molasses filling - it had the texture of pecan pie (without the pecans) and the warmth and richness of a chewy molasses cookie. Delicious! Great if you have a real sweet tooth. I had a slice of the brown butter and sour cherry tart, which really hit the spot! The crust was perfect - buttery and flakey with a bit of crispiness to the edges. The filling had a nice eggy custard flavor which balanced the mild tartness of the cherries. I would definitely order it again! Overall a good experience. I can't wait to go back and try their other offerings!

Greg H.

Yelp
Looks like it's either love or hate for the Pie Bar. I'm going to go on record as a love. Admittedly, they're still having growing pains, and once the fervor drops off I'm sure that this will be a happy and welcome spot to get some really excellent pie. I was there the second weekend at about 1 pm. The line wasn't too bad. And people had to manage themselves in the process of getting their order in, and getting served. That would honestly be about the only suggestion I'd make regarding the service. (People generally tend to suck when it comes to a: being patient (As we can see in some of the other reviews) and b: Playing fair.) I was able to get a slice each of the Salted Chocolate, the Key Lime, and the Apple. The flavors were perfect. And better still they complimented each other really really well. The key lime wasn't really set, and that would be the one ding in the pies themselves. It was a bit more of a liquid than a solid, but even so, the flavor was marvelous. I also had a tea, which was served in a glass mug and made from real leaves in a brewing bag. A friend and I polished them off pretty competently, and for 3 slices and a tea it was appx $15. Honestly not a bad price all things considered. There is AMPLE street parking around the shop, and a few select spots in a small lot in front of it.

Megan B.

Yelp
This place is so adorable and quirky. My group ordered a few different desserts and they were all delicious. Friendly and quick service. Really enjoyed our experience.

Jess R.

Yelp
We were visiting town and stopped at Pie Bar. We got the apple salted caramel pie with local vanilla ice cream. Chocolate pie was great... silky smooth in the middle. Cute setup and nice, relaxed ambiance. On-street parking.

June M.

Yelp
Pies are great! Got a little addicted to it while visiting Northampton. Rugelach was not typically made but was delicious. The bottom crust of their pies is DONE, crusts are nicely browned. Many commercial pie bakers, even small, local places never seem to do a good job on bottom crusts. The middle is often not done and is sometimes almost raw dough. People don't seem to know how to bake a proper crust. This place does so it gets my vote for great! Did I mention the pies are really good? Even without the rave review of their crusts, I think the pies are delicious. It's actually a good thing I don't live here.

Dean J.

Yelp
Walking into Pie Bar is like walking into your grandmother's kitchen, if your grandmother owned her own restaurant and had a smattering of individual french presses for eveyone to sip majestically around her dining room table. Pie Bar is magical. It's everything you want in a bakery and cafe, plus the added benefit of great customer service and hospitality. I was also rather impressed with the free envelopes on the counter urging customers to write to their local state senators and congressmen/women. I had a slice of the orange dreamsicle pie. Lets, be honest here. It tasted better than those processed Nestlé Push-Up pops I ate as a kid. It was a slice of summer. It was everything you want in a condensed milk based pie. (I think this is condensed milk based?) I will most definitely go back to this place. I'm frankly surprised that I haven't been back multiple times already. I'm even more surprised that I've been living in the 5 colleges area for over a year and haven't discovered this jewel. Go here, you're body doesn't even know yet how much you need it.

Leigh M.

Yelp
We have been waiting to come to the Pie Bar for a long time and today was the day. The savory chicken hand pie was beautifully spiced and flakey deliciousness. Coconut cream amazingly sweet and made us dream of having this kind of place in Brattleboro. So good. We will definitely be back.

Sydney S.

Yelp
I have tried the peanut butter, salted maple, ginger/apple pear, and another fruit one and they are all phenomenal. Local business - best pie - amazing staff.

Howard B.

Yelp
I stopped in here for a holiday pie after picking up some baked goods for my vegan daughter at Cafe Evolution (great place!). I am glad I went into the Pie Bar. I was able to grab the last apple pie that had on Christmas Eve. It was a $25 pie and it was pretty good. There was some spice in the pie I could not identify. My service in the store was fast and friendly. The interior was cute and functional. Parking was a little limited, but oh well. I am happy I went into Pie Bar and gave it a try.

Jake K.

Yelp
This might be the first yelp review I've taken the time to write and it's only because that MAPLE CREAM PIE someone brought me for my bday last night compelled me to do so. That pie is a glorious creation and my new birthday cake forever (don't you dare take it off menu)

Dml R.

Yelp
Wonderful site design. Cozy. Comfortable. Excellent location. Lovely owners and staff. The owner is a superb chef. Excellent = Mojito tart, lemon tart, apple pie, peach pie, ham and cheese roll up (please make more of these per day as they sell out fast, should be $3 like a croissant). They have a wide variety. Yet, the thing I do not prefer is eateries using limited organic. I am not going to pay $22/25 for a pie that uses non organic gmo corn/soy fed eggs, non organic milk/butter/sugar, non organic cheese, non organic spices/brominated white table salt and unfiltered water for organic coffee. This goes against my lifestyle. If it were 100% organic with no canola and no soy, $20/22. It keeps me away. Florence water is chemically treated and many times, when tested, over chlorinated. Boiling does not eliminate. Do not want tea or coffee made from tap water. If this all changes, please list on website or menu. I read some review complaints about apples being a little crispy. Homemade pies to me are best that way. Re: wifi This is a smaller business. People/students with their laptops have a tendency to buy only a coffee and stay way too long when others would like a table when its crowded. As long as that is respected, I have no problem with it. I would like to offer a suggestion to draw customers who are gluten free. Offer the tartlett fillings in a cup like a pudding/parfait. Please make sure the server staff do not touch the pie slices and other products with their hands at all.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Cutest place. Nice, accommodating workers. Truly the best of small town living. Love their mugs and all of their pies, especially the creative ones

Migdalia G.

Yelp
This is a place that picks up your soul from the floor with their wonderful ambiance, creative dishes and excellent service. Is an awesome culinary experience that is worth every penny. Simple (in a nice way) and so cute with flowers and glassware that will make you feel special and appreciated! Is my treat close to home! Can't say enough good things about this place. Make sure to try their quiches, soups, hot pies and of course the dessert pies they are famous for. You won't regret it!!! The only downside to it is that they are close on Mondays! But sure they deserve a day off right? Let's not be selfish with these amazing people cause they're surely very very nice!!! LOVE IT!!!! 5 stars!!!!

Melanie P.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place. Pie was good, not great, but mine had a metal shard that almost cut my mouth (see the picture). I expected more for such a pricey slice of pie!

Grizzly B.

Yelp
this place was fantastic. Think Petsi Pies but in the Northampton area. Very good pies, 4 of us each tried a different one and each enjoyed them.
