"If you think New Yorkers take brunch seriously, you should meet a Melburnian. The city’s devotion to brunch is all-consuming, and Florian is one of the best in the game. Sit at the breakfast bar or a sunny outdoor table and order the popular gravlax with tarragon and ricotta on rye, or steel-cut oats with ruby-red poached quince and brown-butter crumb. The coffee is excellent, too, but you’re in Melbourne so that goes without saying. Go on a weekday to avoid a long wait." - ellen fraser

First time at Florian to treat myself for my birthday brunch, and it was such a great experience. The food was absolutely amazing, and the decor is so stylish. Rose was incredibly friendly and welcoming, taking the time to explain everything to us. We’re very happy and can’t wait to come back for dinner next time.

My experience at Florian Eatery was fantastic, thanks to Rose and the incredible food. Rose went above and beyond with her friendly and attentive service, making us feel so welcome throughout our meal. The food was absolutely amazing—every dish was a delight. Thank you, Rose, for such a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!

Pleasant place to be in and the staff are nice. Horribly limited menu though and the fact you can’t get poached eggs is very weird! Croissant with “preserves” (plural) turns out to be a croissant with one little scoop of one type of jam, not 2 or 3 jams…

Haven't been up this way for breakfast for a long time, thought I'd try the same location I used to go regularly but which has since changed to Florian. The staff were unfortunately somewhat unfriendly, not rude just not smiling and pretty short in their communication. The brunch menu was very limited and wildly expensive. I'm not against paying a high price for something if the value for money is there. Unfortunately it wasn't. My eggs on toast was $16, I added bacon for $6 and got what you can see in the picture. This is what triggered my review. I'm sorry Florian, there is absolutely no scenario where it's ok to charge $6 for two tiny pieces of very thin bacon. Fortunately for this establishment, the punters just seem to keep rolling in with their cash. I however, won't be back. To add insult to injury, there are numerous cafes along this section of Rathdowne Street, all which look really appealing. We decided to stop at one of them after brunch for a croissant. We chose All Day Tre. We both wished that we'd chosen this place for brunch, friendlier, great looking menu, realistic pricing and what felt like a much nicer, casual atmosphere. For comparison, the croissant with butter and jam that we shared there cost $5.50 and was bang on. Florian was asking $8 for the same thing. So take a short stroll along this strip of shops before making your mind up on where to dine.

Biggest disappointment! Coffee was flat, not fluffy foamy like everywhere in Melbourne. My omelette was super salty- and I do like salt. The salad was salty . Being German and married to an Austrian I was expecting great bred. The toasted sourdough looked crunchy and golden but unfortunately was hard like a rock. It was extremely noisy and the service was not particularly attentive. Maybe the sandwiches are lovely- they looked tempting but I didn’t try them.

Very ordinary food and a long wait. The bread and pastries were nice but everything else we ordered were just bland. For an omelette and soup, we waited more than 40 mins and it was after the lunch rush.

we both went for their new sourdough with macadamia and cashew cream, fresh tomato, roasted grapes, basil (and basil oil), and shallot. what a delight!! the cream was beautifully lathered and tomatoes so ripe. complimented with pops of sweetness from the grapes, salty anchovies and peppery basil - this was honestly a mouthful of heaven. swipe for the absolutely SPOTLESS plates we practically licked clean. 😮‍💨 although pricing is quite luxurious here (this was $24 + $6 for anchovies) its lunch heaven and a great spot for a little people watching.

One of the best coffees I have ever had, but unfortunately didn’t enjoy much else about the experience. We wanted to order another round of coffees and some sweets after our breakfast, but ended up leaving after about 30 minutes of waiting/trying to get someone’s attention.
