Sister Pie Sets Summer Pop-Up Schedule as Lauded Bakery Plots Next Move | Eater Detroit

"On Thursday, July 3 in Hamtramck the brewery hosted a pop-up from the award-winning bakery; Eater stopped by and sales were described as brisk. The bakery's founder, Lisa Ludwinski, and her crew were on site selling salted maple pies, strawberry and rhubarb pies, and an assortment of the bakery's greatest hits. The pop-up was stop No. 2 of the bakery's summer schedule, which runs through early September and represents the first phase of a planned "summer interlude" announced in May." - Ashok Selvam

Metro Detroit’s Best Breweries and Taprooms | Eater Detroit

"This Hamtramck microbrewery is the first in the neighborhood and serves European-style lagers and hoppy American ales on tap and cask. The brewery lets in lots of natural light, thanks to the large windows, and offers a very limited amount of veranda seating just off bustling Joseph Campau. Pop-ups and curated events dictate the weekly food menu, and return appearances from the award-winning Ayiti Spaghetti, Bao Chicka Bao Bao, and Konjo Me. Follow Florian’s social media for updates." - Courtney Burk

Meantime, a New Beer Hub, Takes Shape in Cass Corridor | Eater Detroit

"A Hamtramck brewing partner will collaborate to brew a Czech-style lager that will become the new house beer for the space; the recipe was initially intended as the flagship for the operators’ original brewery plans. The partner brewery will host a public preview of the brew on Monday, March 10." - Courtney Burk

Detroit’s Best New Bars, Winter 2025 | Eater Detroit

"Just in time for the raucous Hamtramck Labor Day Festival, microbrewery Florian East opened in September 2024. Owned and operated by five longtime friends, Florian East leans into its multicultural setting and ownership, with signage in six languages and locally crafted benches, bar back, and tap handles. It’s fast becoming a hub for community gatherings from the Hamtramck Queer Alliance meetups to seed swaps and book clubs. Open every day, the brewery serves ales, lagers, and porters made in-house." - Mickey Lyons

Florian East, Hamtramck’s First Microbrewery, Opens Labor Day Weekend | Eater Detroit

"After six years and more than 1,000 shoe boxes, Hamtramck’s first microbrewery opened on August 29 in a former shoe store at 9530 Jos Campau Avenue, where the team cleared out thousands of shoes and framed a few uniquely designed boxes above long wooden benches. I learned the space is 1,500 square feet including the brewhouse, seats 94, and feels airy thanks to large, rounded-top windows that greet visitors in six languages (one inscription even appears in Aramaic/Chaldean), while a rose motif discovered behind plaster inspired the logo and decor. The owners — Shang Kong, Milo Madole, Chris Burtley, John Abbo, and head brewer Will Mundel (formerly of Eastern Market Brewing Company) — represent Hamtramck’s Iraqi American, Chinese American, and Black communities and aimed to create a welcoming atmosphere with offerings for both drinkers and non-drinkers. The brewery serves rotating drafts, three hand pumps dedicated to cask, hand pulls, draft mocktails, and Cosmcks (cocktail-inspired seltzers made in-house), plus a range of nonalcoholic options; beer styles include a dry-hopped golden ale, many low-ABV beers such as European-style lagers and hoppy American ales, and a goal in year one to use 100 percent Michigan-grown hops (malt sourced from Sugar Creek, Indiana). I saw that the brew tanks were stored in Mundel’s backyard during the build-out and moved in by crane, the tap handles are backed by Polish pottery from the Polish Art Center, custom benches were made by neighborhood Woodward Throwbacks, and the space will host local pop-ups and food trucks and screen Premier League matches on weekend mornings while serving only nonalcoholic beverages; collaborations already on or coming to tap include Urbanrest’s Grodziskie, Watermark’s sage wheat beer (with sage from Mundel’s garden), and a session cold IPA with Batch Brewing. Hours are 2 p.m.–10 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday." - Courtney Burk

The SE MI Brewery Discovery Tour's latest stop is right here in Hamster Track. No, Ham Truck. Hampertrick? Hammer Time? It's what? Really? You're sure? Hamtramck!!! (My sarcasm streak is as wide as Lake Huron today). I'm really learning to ❤️ Hamtramck. The food alone should bring you here regularly. And now there is a brewery, too. 🎉🎊🥳 First, ignore the apparent pay-to-park situation, it's just to confuse people. And on its way out. No cost, in other words. The beers are sessionable. For those who aren't hopheads (or malt-minded) that means under 6% ABV. So you have several without being too concerned about having to get an Uber home. Just pace yourself like an adult and you should be fine. Assuming you know your limits. Lower alcohol does not mean low flavor, though. I came specifically for the Garnet lager, a hard-to-find Czech style. I was not disappointed. Tasty, refreshing, smooth & only 5.5%. My second was another hard-to-find style from the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 (I know, they changed it to Czechia. Sounds like Chechnia & I'm not using it.), Midwest Leisure. 5.3%. Followed it with a hand-pulled oyster stout called Pocket Full of Shells. No, it doesn't taste like pureed oysters (🤢). Only 5.3%, as well. The staff were super friendly. The digs are open, inviting, with light colored wood, exposed brick and ductwork. The Wolverines game was on when I visited (Go BLUE!) but the volume was off so as to not distract from conversations or the music. Watch it if you need to follow. (I recorded it). After a few hours reading & conversing, I headed out, looking forward to the styles to come with the change of seasons. Baltic Porter in January, anyone?

Bright, airy brewery with great drinks, amazing staff, and good vibes. The pineapple tamarind seltzer is lovely and one of my favorites in the city!

Yelp
We were just visiting for the weekend, and Florian East Brewery ended up being our favorite spot by far. The whole place has such a relaxed, welcoming vibe, and the bartender made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time. They specialize in ales and lagers made with regional ingredients, and you can really taste the care that goes into each brew. Every one we tried, and I think we tried them all- was incredible. The beer engine was a standout, excited to see one in the states, made the pour was incredibly smooth and full of character. They also had a seltzer that was Honestly one of the best I've ever had. Served on ice with a garnish, it was super m refreshing and surprisingly flavorful. No food menu but they did have chips and even a NA drink option. Between the great drinks, the friendly atmosphere, and the unique touches you don't find everywhere, this place really made our trip. If you're in the area, definitely check out Florian East Brewery.

Yelp
We went to the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival and we were excited to check out this new brewery. This place used to be a shoe store. It's a relatively small space but uniquely decorated. There's a nice elevated area where you can sit in the windows. We sat up at the bar. They only had four beers on tap, but I'm sure that will change as they get up and running because there were more taps. The beers were very good. I will come back in a few months and see what new beers they have. The patrons all seemed to really enjoy themselves.

Yelp
So far the brewery is under construction and underway. There is going to be a large area to enjoy parties and get-togethers and book all events. Now... I cannot give you all the details because they haven't officially opened yet, but what I could tell you is that they Brew in-house and have up to 10 beers draft, including three European style taps. Being some here is very comforting, homey and a little bit of industrial. They had to-go containers for their brews that are super adorable that match the cups. Service is going to be amazing. I can already tell by the order. Stay tuned for the next review and they officially open August 29th.

Yelp
Great beer and ambiance. You can tell the local owners really care about the business. Looking forward to this weekends Lunar New Year special events!
