My first time visit, and I think they have been fairly underrated. My experience was excellent. It helps of course that I happen to stop by on a Wednesday, and Wednesdays happen to be whiskey Wednesdays, and they have five dollar old fashions! Yes, five dollars! And they use Old Forester as the bourbon. We were greeted right away, and asked if we had dined with them before. When we said it was our first visit, they went through the menu with us. (Anything they have, you can get grilled, blackened, or fried.). All the seafood is fresh, and they have different specials that came in. And you can incorporate those into any of the menu items. For example, today they had hogfish so if I wanted to have a hogfish Ruben, I could have.
You take your menus and go pick where you want to sit, then when you're ready to order, you actually go up to the counter to order and then they will bring the food to your table.... Same with alcohol drinks, go to the bar, order drinks and they will bring them to your table. My buddy said the chowder was very good and the Cuban was excellent, it looked delicious. I've never seen a Cuban look that good outside of a Cuban restaurant! I am very reluctant to try a grouper Ruben anywhere except thirsty Marlin in Palm Harbor. However, I decided to give it a chance because this is their own spin and they do it differently so it's not a true Reuben really. They do it on a brioche bun, with their own sauce , and I will say if you're like me, ask for extra sauerkraut. It was definitely a different take on a Ruben, but the fish was fantastic. I had mine blackened, cooked to perfection, sauce was very tasty. Cheese melted just right. They have a grouper BLT. I'm thinking about trying next time. Overall, the place has a cool vibe, if you're into bourbons, the bar has an incredible selection, everyone is super friendly from when you walk in the door, to When you place your orders, to the person cleaning and don't forget the bartender of course! Anything you order comes with a side of their cornbread which I I have to say is pretty tasty. The only thing I did not like was I had a side of the collard greens. They were very tasty, I just did not realize they had potatoes in with them. However, some people may love that, but since I was already having a sandwich and the cornbread tasted good enough for me to eat the whole thing, I did not need potatoes lol.
Also, definitely want to try a shrimp Poboy and that Cuban sandwich, on a Wednesday of course !
