12 Places to Experience Arts and Culture in St. Pete/Clearwater

"When you walk up to this newly-opened space, a large neon sign welcomes you to the Mermaid Star Motel. But don’t let the name fool you—this is no ordinary roadside inn. The 15,000-square-foot space in the Warehouse Arts District of St. Pete isn’t a motel at all, but rather a massive interactive art exhibit. The fictional Mermaid Star Motel is at the heart of Fairgrounds St. Pete’s inaugural exhibition. Located inside a former factory, the space is split into a series of rooms, each designed and decorated in a unique style that reflects different aspects of Florida. More than 60 local artists contributed to the experience. A display labeled “Local Distractions” in the motel lobby is filled with brochures for fictional tourist attractions. In the Mermaid Dressing Room, the walls are covered with intricate seashell designs, and jewelry made from shells is laid out across the vanity. In the Lampscape Room, colorful lights and carefully-placed mirrors make it seem like the walls have disappeared. There’s even a “pool,” designed by artist Matthew Campbell. It has all the accouterment you would expect from a motel pool—except the water. Instead, a projector suspended from the ceiling displays a video of blue water with pool toys floating across its surface. Fairgrounds St. Pete was created by Liz Dimmitt and Mikhail Mansion and is one part of a bigger project that they call The Factory. Even as the space grows and changes, it aims to live up to a bold mission statement: “art for all, play for all, and joy for all.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
Fantastic experience every time. Some things were the same but some artist installations change. This was my second time and just as fun as the first, if not more fun. The add on games are definitely fun and recommended. We did the neon mini golf add on.

Google
We paid close to $60 for two people. Some of the artwork was cool (the telescope was an awesome piece of art!) and it was definitely an interesting place to explore for a little bit. This place is definitely more fun for little kids, same with the mini golf which was very small (we were joking it was tiny golf lol!) I would come back if it was cheaper or there were more things to do/ explore

Google
GPS was a little confusing, just go into the colorful building. There’s parking in front, we went during a weekday so it wasn’t bad. Museum is cool, as soon as you step inside it makes you feel like you stepped into a different world or town or even year. Beautiful colors, we loved it. The museum offers a scavenger hunt and I don’t remember what else but the husband and I went without any of that and still had a great time looking at every piece of art. We spent about an hour and some in there. Maybe in some other future we will try doing the scavenger hunt. All in all, we both loved it. It’s fun for the eyes.

Google
Definitely interesting, but also just way more targeted towards kids than it mentions. Me and my mother did it (23 & 55) and it was something we finished in 10 minutes and spent way too much money on. Kind of a ripoff, but the store attached to the museum is a cool spot and got my dad a record for fathers day there that he loves.

Google
This was so worth going to! So many different ways to experience floridarama for it to be different each time you visit. It was very cool and fun to scavenge around looking for clues and solving our mystery. The little shop with all the cool items were also cool to check out!

Google
Super fun and cool place to enjoy some indoor fun!! I went with my 2 neices. The ticket information on the website was a little confusing and we were unable to locate a number to reach out to ask questions. Hopefully they will add ticket questions to their FAQs on the website. We didn't know what the 4 pack was versus the group tickets nor the add one. So we purchased a 4 pack of tickets and added on one mermaid pack. I didn't know if you need to add the add on for the entire group or for each person. Again hopefully this will appear in FAQs. Otherwise the girls loved the experience as I read off the clue from the provided sheet, they ran off to each room to locate the coin. They had alot of fun playing in the rooms and going on the treasure hunt. All of the rooms are designed by local artists and change often to keep things fresh. The hunts are fun for children and adults. As for parking,it is limited and free. We parked on the street out front as we went on a monday during the day. Just go as you will be amazed at the creativity!

Surprisingly wasn't too busy for a Saturday. A little bit bummed out that even though being a Florida resident you still have to pay $29 to get in not much of a discount honestly. But really good for taking photos might go again to do either the scavenger hunts or the mini golf

Justin

Google
The whole experience was a localized version like Meow Wolf. It's an awesome interactive art experience that takes about an hour if it's not busy. They incorporate some local artists in there as well. Some of the interactive pieces didn't work correctly or were completely broken.

Yelp
After hearing about FloridaRAMA online, my friends and I headed out for a day trip to St. Pete. We have been to MeowWolf before, so we knew to expect a building full of art installations. What we found at FloridaRAMA blew us away. We spent a few hours wandering through the rooms (a few times), discovering all of the details, enjoying the sights, and taking pictures. If you like unique art, this place is for you! If you experience sensory overload easily, there are some calmer spots to rest in. Sunglasses also may be helpful to have since some rooms are light displays. Overall, I highly recommend adding this experience to your day trip itinerary! If you don't enjoy art or walking through museums, this one may not make your list.

Yelp
Lived in St. Pete three years and it wasn't until I moved 45 minutes away that I finally visited. At some point the name went from St. Pete fairgrounds to FloridaRama. Incredible art installations. Immense detail went into each room, every step of the experience. Fully suggest you do a scavenger hunt option to stay engaged while perusing. We had so much fun!

Yelp
I went a few years ago and brought a friend on a rainy day when we couldn't go to the beach as planned. If you go with kids (and maybe even if you're all adults), the add-on scavenger hunts are worth it. You're already shelling out for the ticket, the games aren't much more, and greatly enhance the experience. Our kids would have been done in 15 minutes but we stayed an hour and a half with the game package. They searched for symbols and solved riddles while the grown ups did most of the bird watching. Upon solving the symbol puzzle, the kids had a long dance party in the Twister spaceship. It was a blast and saved our rainy day. The installations are very entertaining and very Florida. Will add it to my list of places to take visitors.

Yelp
Really fun experience. Designed as an Old Florida motel walkabout, the art is immersive, Modern, incredibly creative. Take your time - there's a lot to take in. We doubled back to our favorite rooms, took lots of pictures. Little gift shop offers neat merchandise as well as drinks, including beer and wine. Admission offers small discount for Florida residents and students. Daddy Kool record shop attached and also very cool. Amazing selection and super friendly employees.

Yelp
Been hearing about this place on tik tok. Decided to go and check it out since we had a Groupon. Must say wasn't impressed. We were done (with paying extra for the scavenger hunt) in 40 mins. For the amount they charge and the hype there should be more to do.

Yelp
This place is what my dreams are made of! When I found them online I knew we had to go check it out and I am SO glad we did. It's quirky, unique, fun, beautiful and immersive in every aspect! We walked around for about an hour and a half looking at everything and enjoying the interactive aspect of this unique art exhibit. I loved every second of it and highly recommend you made the trip from anywhere to see this hidden gem! It's in an awesome warehouse with a record store and art gallery and is absolutely worth exploring. I sent it to so many friends saying we have to go back because I loved it that much! There are so many interactive parts, they also have scavenger hunts and other things to make your experience unique. The artists are incredibly talented and really created something so beautiful with Floridarama!

Yelp
This place has some REALLY weird modern art. Apparently the work changes on a regular basis, so new things are brought on all the time. Had fun looking at the oddities. I enjoyed it but it is a bit expensive. It cost us $50+ to wander through but the experience only lasted about 15-20 minutes. Honestly, the price is my only gripe, otherwise I had fun.

Yelp
The art itself was great. However, I went with my grandkids and once we were given the paper for the scavenger hunts, we were sent on our way with no explanation for each hunt. Yes, there were brief instructions on the paper, but when they say "here you go, have fun" the kids were off (one paper for the entire group). So we were halfway thru before we realized we were collecting the wrong information. That was a little frustrating. Also, I signed up for three different hunts, not really knowing what each one was or how long they would take. So we only got done with one before we were tired and wanted to go. So that was a waste of money. Otherwise, like I said, most of the art was very creative.

Yelp
My son and I had an awesome time. The scavenger hunts make it a gratifying adventure. You experience so much more than way. We loved it.

Yelp
This was a really cool place! I took my family and everyone had fun! We purchased several scavenger hunts to use which made it even better! The staff was helpful and friendly when we had questions.

Yelp
It was okay. I think children have a better time than this adult. It was great that you could touch what you saw but on / off switches that turn on and off LEDs will only go so far for me. There were some interesting creations. It might have better if I were drunk.

Yelp
I made a review back when it was Fairgrounds but since it's been renamed, I've made another visit. Definitely improved! I also love that the exhibits rotate with various local artists - it showcases the talent that St Petersburg has and it encourages attendees to visit more than once. Highly recommend for a date or hanging out with friends. In fact, I only have one major quibble. The toilets definitely need revamping. It looked a bit like a gas station bathroom.

Pedro B.

Yelp
Very overpriced for absolutely nothing. Just nothing to do at all and for thirty dollars per person you would expect to not be ready to leave after five minutes.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our visit to FloridaRAMA (the new name). Greeted warmly at the counter, watched a quick little intro video, then we were released into the arena. Several little areas to explore as part of the immersive experience. They could use a little better signage as driving in off the main street we werent sure if we were in the right place, or where the parking should have been located. Once we were in it was an amazing experience! Loved the strawberry room (that smelled like strawberries), the indian inspired room with mirror frames, and the spinning fishes. So much to see and experience!

Yelp
Paid $85 for a date experience for my fiancé's 27th birthday. Showed up once they opened and they told us that they are "closed for a private event" despite it not being listed on the website and them happily taking my money without informing us. They said we have to email their customer support for a refund. Nice but what about the birthday that's now ruined? The week I have to wait for the refund? We've been planning to visit Floridarama for awhile now, now we'll be telling everyone to stay away. Luckily we're locals! Absolutely livid about this, ruined my fiancé's birthday. Don't spend your money buying tickets here, you might as well light your money on fire- they are just about the same thing. Edit: Im editing this because I never heard back from Floridarama. They have ignored my copious emails and have yet to process a refund. They took my $85, denied us entry, then ignored all of our emails for a refund despite having an automated email that says they'll be back to you "within 36 hours." It's been 3 days and that doesn't include how long it'll take to get a refund. Absolutely ridiculous. I am warning everyone of this place as much as I possibly can to anyone and everyone, we're St.Pete locals so we have plenty of people to tell! I would give zero stars if I could.

Yelp
We were staying in St Pete for a PhD Graduation and needed an activity to keep the Kids and Adults entertained while waiting for the stormy weather to clear. FloridaRama, which is also located in St. Pete, checked all our boxes! Super quick and fast to purchase online tickets for same day entrance to the Exhibition. There is FREE street parking although you may have to circle a few times. This was our first time at an eclectic Art Museum represented by local Artists in an interactive environment. We were not sure what to expect. It WAS a totally COOL experience! Upon entering, our Group tried to stay together but we were all drawn to different exhibits and ended up going in different directions. No worries, there is a central meeting place located in the exhibit. There is an option to find clues amongst the several exhibits in order to solve a mystery puzzle. We let the Kids figure that one out while my husband and I just roamed back and forth, in and out and sideways. Super entertaining for a few hours until the showers pass and the sun returns! BTW, they have dippin dots as a special treat in the Gift Shop. A must have.

Yelp
Awesome concept! Fun, whacky & peculiar visuals. Talented artists. Wish it lasted longer! 30min was all it took - for us. You can linger a lot longer if desired. But impressed with what is there. A large, roomy space could be halved and more exhibits added?

Kathy M.

Yelp
$25 to enter. Takes about 25 minutes to see all the rooms. Local artists (which is how it got any stars) which is cool. Not really interactive. Do not recommend. Go to the Dali museum instead.
