Oh, joy. I thought as I headed North towards Tourist Trap, USA known to locals as Cocoa Beach, FL.
I get that most people don't come to this part of Florida for the dining experience offered; they are here for Space or Mouse-related things; however, people still have to eat, and they don't need to be taken for a ride in doing so. Hence, I keep heading up the coast to wade into the unknown clip joints of Tourist Land.
This brings me to today's eatery of choice, Florida's Seafood Bar & Grill in Cocoa Beach, FL. I love Cocoa Beach. It's quaint and clean, with just a bit of fake thrown in to appease the ever-out-of-state visitors. My server for the meal was Alyssa. Alyssa was charming and spot-on throughout the whole of my dining experience. After asking a few questions about the preparation and source of ingredients, I ordered one of their Florida's Boil with a Caesar salad and some bacon cheese grits on the side because of bacon.
Taking a few snapshots of the place, I sat back and awaited my feastage. The wait wasn't all that long, as I soon saw Alyssa heading our way with a steaming pile of grub. Click, click, click. A few more pics of the food, and it was time to dive in. I began appreciating what they serve here after trying a Titusville restaurant using institutional-grade ingredients.
The seafood in the boil, being the cynosure of the menu was a slight disappointment. It was cooked properly and all in all, it was delightfully seasoned. It's just the mid-grade seafood was meh. The Caesar salad was prepared correctly, the bacon cheese grits were tasty and good. The corn fritters were fine, though there was nothing to write home about. For a tourist joint, this isn't all that bad. The execution was very good; obviously, someone cared about what slop was slung forth from yonder kitchen. The ingredients were mid-level at best and were certainly not winning any awards. Would I eat here again? Not given a choice, but I would in a pinch as compared to most Cocoa Beach food this is above average.
The Big Boy says, "For slightly above-average food without going OTB, this is your place."
