Flo’s Kitchen food truck has moved back home during COVID-19 | Eater Chicago

"After moving the truck behind the family's Avondale home, Chef Flo Gutierrez has seen customers flock to pick up some of the city's finest tacos from Flo’s Kitchen, pulling up in the alley to grab food served sporadically until Chicago's weather makes outdoor service impossible. The entire family is involved: his father bought the truck as a retirement plan and his mother, Rosa, insists on making the addicting flautas—crispy, rolled cylinders filled with chicken, beef, or potatoes (the latter his favorite)—while she also hand-shreds flank steak for Durango-style burritos; that beef is also stuffed into a mighty steak taco that delivers 'glorious flavor bombs' with each bite. Gutierrez handles the sauces, including an emulsified salsa verde with a guacamole-like consistency, and he simmers birria for 12 hours, offering a side of consommé for dipping that also accompanies a steamed-goat quesadilla; he added quesabirria during a social media challenge and even serves it with ramen noodles, one of the truck's most popular dishes. Operating a food truck in Chicago has been difficult because of restrictive ordinances championed by Ald. Tom Tunney, but neighborhood support in Avondale has been critical—'They're really cool,' Gutierrez says. 'No Karens.' Check the truck’s Facebook and Instagram for updates on when Flo’s Kitchen is open; there are no plans to set up igloos behind the house at 3335 N. Troy Street." - Ashok Selvam

Found another local diner on our trip back home. We stopped for the night in Troy and found Flo's. Awesome burger and fries! Everything made to order, my husband had the Cajun fries and loved them. Food came out piping hot! Had to let the fries cool some they were so hot. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and a very clean place. Try it if you are ever in Troy AL.

The food was absolutely amazing atmosphere needs work, the main area where you eat as a story place and it's not covered. No alcohol is served, you get served with canned drinks. The actual food oh my god absolutely amazing

My sweet neighbor decided to bless me with a plate from your establishment. Oxtail & rice, Mac & cheese, and cabbage. First time trying oxtail, and it was wonderful. So flavorful. The cabbage was good, too, but the real star was the Mac & Cheese! Best I’ve had in my near 45 years on this planet! Will definitely be eating here again!

Really did enjoy this place today. My first time visiting and I must say, the food, atmosphere, and service was all good. Look forward to returning once again.

Another gem in downtown Troy! The food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and a great value! I had the Big Daddy combo and the burger and wings were the best! (I opted for the Sticky Jack sauce and it was the best combo of hot and sweet!) Definitely go here as you won't be disappointed!

If you haven't came here before you need to try it. Menu is simple and the food is excellent. I had the bacon cheeseburger with bacon ranch cheese fries. The ranch dressing was the best ranch I've tasted. I give them a 10 out of 10. It's off of Love st and Oak st.

Google
The food was terrible got a Philly cheese steak that was paper thin and not even the right kind of cheese and a hamburger toast was soggy way too much mustard steel doesn't have flavor the Philly was the same way what's the wings were dry BBQ sauce waz a little spicy but above average it has a sweet glaze almost Caramelized chicken was either old or overcooked like It was under a heat lamp still spent 30 bucks salad I guess it wasn't too bad but I don't recommend

Yelp
The food here is fresh and delicious. Staff is friendly. It is a hole in the wall and not fancy. The food is amazing.

Yelp
Troy doesn't have much... but they have Flo's. This wings, cheesesteak, burger, and fish, joint is undeniable. The atmosphere is good, and the food is even better. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We loved their cheese steak sandwiches & fries. Clean & friendly! The Google reviews of this place are 4.6 and are correct!

Yelp
Best burger in Troy! If you go get the Bacon Cheeseburger with Bacon Cheddar Ranch fries. It make take you a year to work off all the calories but they are sooooooo good. Their fries are fresh and crispy.

Yelp
Was a regular customer here, then one day went in and me and some friends were treated very poorly. To start the food I ordered didn't get delivered with the rest of the groups which took 45 minutes and when I told the waitress about it it was another 45 minutes till she rudely came and told me my order was ready. So I went up after an HOUR AND A HALF of waiting and asked would I have to pay for my food and the manger replied "you either want them or you don't" my friends and I will never take our business here again!

Yelp
Their wings are alright, nothing special though. The garlic Parmesan rub was the only redeeming factor I could find in their food. I'm a big fan of their use of local art on the interior walls, but it doesn't make up for the horrible philly cheesesteak. Over salted, soggy, and super low quality meat. I most likely won't be back again, not worth may time.
