Sticky buns, French pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and more

"Under Flour’s purview, the rebirth of the octagonal concession stand at Boston Common has been, quite honestly, a fantastic addition to the park. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it when it was run by Florida-based sandwich chain Earl of Sandwich; now, it’s not out of the norm to see a fast-moving line of customers snaking up to the pavilion. On one of those too-hot days in July I ordered the sticky bun sundae, a treat exclusive to the bakery’s Common location: swirls of vanilla soft serve topped with a salty, sticky, sweet mix of toasted sticky bun crumbs, vanilla bean caramel drizzles, and flaky sea salt that added up to a surprisingly complex flavor profile for what is usually a nostalgic, candy-sweet summer dessert. It made for an excellent snack while wandering about the park." - Erika Adams

"Chef Joanna Chang’s celebrated bakery chain has opened a concession in the park, offering its much-sought-after sticky buns alongside limited, park-exclusive treats such as pâte à choux swans filled with swirls of soft serve, making it a convenient sweet stop in the heart of the Common." - Erika Adams

"Sure, go to Flour for the sticky buns, but stay for the hot chocolate. The rich beverage can be ordered traditionally, or made “fiery” with chile powder and cayenne pepper accents. Also keep an eye out for specials, like white hot chocolate. There are nine Flour locations around Boston and Cambridge." - Eater Staff

"In the midst of piles of croissants, cookies, brownies, and all manner of pastries, Flour Bakery + Cafe — which has eight locations around Boston and Cambridge — also has a selection of pies available whole or by the slice, with varieties including chocolate cream, coconut cream, and lemon meringue." - Celina Colby

"For nearly 25 years, Flour has been serving some of the best pastries and desserts in the city, and one of those includes an excellent Boston cream pie that’s nut-free. Available by the slice, or as a whole cake (in three sizes!), their take has sponge cake with vanilla cream, coffee syrup, and chocolate ganache." - Tanya Edwards
