Absolutely loved my visit to Flour Bakery + Café! The grilled cheese was perfectly crispy and comforting, and the chive cheddar scone was rich, buttery, and full of flavor. The cappuccino was bold and delicious—just the right kick. A cozy spot with amazing food and great vibes. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Excellent bakery with hot food. The banana bread would have been better heated up but was still very good at room temperature. The vegetarian bun was exceptional!

Google
The sticky bun is no doubt the best! Also love the salad, super refreshing and well-seasoning👍🏼 Croissant is one of my favorite too. Super crunchy on the outside and super soft with buttery flavor in the inside😋 Love it here!

When I ordered the side “smoked salmon fillet” I thought I would get a couple of smoked salmon slices. Instead I got a smoked - salmon fillet… I think the avocado toast would go better with smoked salmon, not salmon fillet.

Google
great coffee!!! i had the hummus sandwich and it was good (though a bit messy to eat). they have wifi, plenty of seating, and lots of natural light. would recommend.

Google
Good catch for a quick breakfast in Cambridge. Un pain Chocolate and Cappuccino. The pastry is really good, rich in dark chocolate and so soft with butter that just melt away from the very first bite. Remember to ask for warming though. I didn’t get a right cappuccino I ordered, because it’s felt like a latter. Coffee flavor and foam of milk are both not on point. And I really wish this could serve in a cup since I was dined in. But the pastry and ambience can totally beat this!

Google
The chicken tikka masala naan was amazing 🌯. Definitely worth a try! Also, a great cafe to work at!

Google
I went here to try Boston Cream Pie and the ham and cheese croissant, but they were out of both. I got the pimento and jalapeño bialy and the coconut cream pie instead. Both were alright in my opinion but not the best. The pimento topping on the bialy was good, but the bialy itself seemed a little dry. The staff is great though!

Yelp
I had one of the best sandwiches I've ever had here - wow!! I didn't expect much because I just needed a cappuccino and a place to journal, but the sandwich I ordered on a whim was so good! Thick, fluffy bread, and it wasn't dry at all. Great place to just relax.

Yelp
Brief Summary: - Coffee is sour - Ordering can be done at the kiosk - Indoor and outdoor seating We arrived here in the early afternoon, so there were guests sitting in most of the space inside and outside of this cafe. There were two ordering styles, one by the staff and the other by the kiosk. It was nice to see the kiosk order, so we tried this for this time around. The kiosk ordering style was like boba, where it first started with the base and then additional steps to customize. For example, with the toast, it starts off with a plain piece of toast (customize on the quantity), then you can choose to add butter or other jams, and then then adding a side of a poached egg. This was easier to follow for someone who is familiar with ordering from a tablet, but with my elder relative, they were very confused on why they were being asked for additional items, when they expected one push to put the whole set (toast, egg, butter, and jam) into the cart. We also ordered a salad, a roasted beef sandwich and a pastry. However, after ordering, it turns out that this was out of stock, so the staff came by and guided us to the staff desk to swap an item for something else. We got the cheese pastry instead and paid the remaining. I enjoyed this cafe for the variety of menu options, including toast, which was harder to find in other cafés. The roast beef was good, but generally the texture of the sandwich was on the soft side. If the bread surface was toasted, it would have added a different texture.

Yelp
A student staple, flour had great pastries and sandwiches! The banana bread, sticky buns, cheddar chive scone, and boston crème cake are my favorites from all the times I've been. There's outdoor seating as well as a place inside to sit and work. You can often see many coffee chats going on here!

Yelp
Somebody bought me the vegan almond pistachio macaroon and it was delicious! There are tons of clearly labelled vegan options on the menu, and you can find full ingredient lists online.

Yelp
I came here for a quick lunch on a Friday. It was not too packed. I waited on line and ordered a Cubano sandwich. There was a large seating area in the back for everyone to enjoy. I grabbed a free cup of water to drink while waiting for my meal. Everyone seemed friendly and helpful. The sandwich was packed and delicious. It had a good amount of meat and tons of flavor packed in. It was very filling and left me satisfied after. There are several offices and students nearby who seem to keep this location busy. I enjoyed my time here and would come here again.

Yelp
Cannot count the number of times I've been here. Always good, always reliable. I truly recommend all of the sandwiches and pastries. But my favorites are the sticky sticky bun (ofc), cheddar pimento bialy, and curry chicken naan. Love that they have seasonal specials so I can always try something new! I wouldn't dine-in here: it's loud and crowded and there's not much seating. But great for getting food to go.

Yelp
Sticky Buns 5/5 Currant Spelt Oat Scone 4/5 Came here with a friend who was visiting from out of town and wanted to try the sticky buns. They did not disappoint! The blend of the honey sugar caramel on top with the crunchiness of the pecans and crisp top layer of the buns was amazing! Highly, highly recommend! We also tried the currant spelt oat scone which was really good as well. The cafe and bakery itself is a nice place to sit in to meet up with people or to get work done. It was decently spacious with a good amount of seating. We came near to close so it was pretty quiet, but I could see it being more lively during peak hours. Service was very good. The cashier we interacted with was very helpful in answering any questions we had about how any of the baked goods would travel for my friend who wanted to take some back. Also liked how there were the Flour recipe books and other items sold there. No parking lot, but a good amount of street parking near to the cafe!

Sophia T.

Yelp
The owner is a very nice person, do friendly! We ordered two cups of coffee and two plane croissants, they were delicious!

Lisa J.

Yelp
When will cafes learn that "a salad" isn't just a plain handful of all the same greens, and nothing else? Lots of people recommended the Flour chain to us when they heard we'd be visiting Boston. We ordered a sandwich which was fairly good if rather basic, a quiche and salad that were unremarkable, and a sticky bun and an almond croissant which were both nearly flavorless. Six months ago I made croissants (almond, in fact) for the first time ever, and they were better than this. Costco makes better croissants. We both regret our meal here.
google avatar

Aaron A.

Yelp
A bakery + coffee shop that is all around town. It is unapologetically bold as it serves American versions of popular baked goods. Some seating means opportunities for quick meetings or waiting for friends. Broche au chocolat - A playful adaptation on the pain au chocolat. Instead of the yeast croissant exterior, we have a brioche bread exterior. While an interesting idea and potentially a good concept, the bread was a bit tough and likely a abit stale. Might give it a try again as I like the concept. Brown sugar almond meringue - Love meringue, so had to try it. This is denser than a typical meringue, but the almond bit do help with the texture and I can look past the extra density. Also works well with coffee. So. Lots of choices lots to try, will come back to try some of them!

Yelp
Their sandwiches are really tasty, and they have some creative options. I was impressed with how much turkey was in my last sandwich, which also had a delightful and unusual sage mayo (which I loved despite normally passing on mayo). My first few experiences with Flour were with their pastries and desserts, which I was disappointed in. They were too sweet, IMO. They have pretty streamlined order pickup systems. And I like the cute window art.

Yelp
I had a great experience ordering breakfast for a meeting. The website was easy to use and when I had to make a correction to the order it was efficiently done over the phone. They were very communicative throughout the delivery process which was much appreciated. The pastries are a bit pricey but they're huge, 1 pastry is definitely 2 servings, and of high quality. Everyone enjoyed them. Absolutely worth it!

Yelp
This pop tart was amazing. Tbh I feel like I've tried everything on the flour menu, so I'm guessing this is new. I'm normally not a fan of fruit flavored dessert, but this was perfectly tart and sweet.

Yelp
I just ordered a double espresso with some foamed milk to go and asked specifically for it to be NOT too milky.I got practically only warm half and half with minimal amount of espresso I could hardly taste- very bad and pricy ! I feel very much turned off by this establishment which was maybe one day in the past a sophisticated and European quality cafe before it became greedy and crass chain.. Ania, Somerville

Yelp
Really great food overall. Super fresh ingredients, good quality, great sauces. One of our go-to's for a quick meal or baked treat. Tried the applewood smoked bacon sandwich and the miso tofu bowl today, both fantastic. I do however want to comment on some recent changes, particularly with the breads. The roast beef sandwich used to be to-die for but the bread was changed from a sliced lighter bread to a ciabatta. Nothing wrong with ciabatta but it's too heavy for the sandwich, it overpowers the taste and texture and now we never order it anymore. I think we can modify the bread when ordering it but I don't see a comparable option. Would love to see that bread style back for the roast beef. Also really miss the lamb sandwich and hope that comes back! Probably seasonal. Again, aside from this, fantastic spot and highly recommend.

Yelp
Emily is amazing!!!!!! I ordered to the wrong location and she helped me fix my order with a smile. She made my morning and is a wonderful person. Thank you Emily!

Yelp
My coworkers and I routinely get lunch from Flour. My favorite sandwich here is the Chicken Tikka Masala Naan. It's got some deliciously spiced chicken and cucumbers and dill wrapped in a flatbread. The chutney sauce is really good and the sandwich never feels dry. The roast beef sandwich is also pretty good. I usually go for that if I'm not that hungry, because it comes in half sizes. The drinks are okay in my opinion. Not awful, but also not that good. The teas in particular are really expensive (you're basically buying a teabag for $2.50) The lines get REAL long on weekdays during lunch. I recommend ordering ahead online well before 12pm to avoid the lunch rush. Or else you'll be stuck waiting 45+ minutes for some orders.
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
My brother came into town for only 4 days which was more than enough time to get him hooked. This review is really about the special Chicken Tikka Masala Naan sandwich. The innards were juicy, flavorful, and intriguing to the tastebuds. Wish there was a little more paneer but I am particularly partial to cottage cheese-esque cuisine compared to the average civilian. And the brownie was divine, as usual. For an additional fun fact, I noticed the naan they use is the Stonefire brand that you can get at Costco if you'd like to try your hand at this at home.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday morning and placed an order through the kiosk they have set up as there was no wait that way. It was a little hard to choose I wanted due to the extensiveness of their menu, but overall it was a relatively smooth experience. Picking up my food, it was a little confusing. The drink came out first, but they didn't say anything about when the baked goods would come out. They weren't busy at the time of me ordering either so I couldn't place why they weren't as communicative or helpful. Other people who came up to get their food while I was waiting were equally as confused and it wasn't clear that sandwiches and more lunch foods were to be picked up elsewhere so maybe working on that confusion would helpful. It also happened to be their birthday so they were handing out cupcakes at the time I came. They handed it to everyone who placed an order at the cashier so I also asked for one when I picked up my pastries, but the person looking gave me a very blank gaze before wordlessly handing me a cupcake. It didn't feel very friendly or courteous so that was a bit off-putting. The drink was pretty good and the cinnamon bun had a nice taste. The cake was very sweet and the Fruit Loops attached to it were soggy, but I'm not sure how that could be avoided. I'm glad I tried both pastries, but I preferred the cinnamon bun by a lot. Overall, the experience was pretty lackluster service wise and taste wise it was okay. A little pricey, but given its location right by Central, that was to be expected.

Yelp
I've heard so many good things about Flour and am certainly adding it to my list of places to take visitors to. Things I tried: Vanilla sable cookie ($1) - Just like shortbread, yum. Crunchy and not too sweet. Recommend with a latte. Parmesan chive scone ($4) - Big, cheesy, and chive-y. Sad they don't heat it up or anything, but the flavors come through even when cold. Absolutely addicting. Lemon meringue pie slice ($6) - Look at my photo to see how high that meringue goes. The ratio of very very sour lemon curd to fluffy meringue was perfect. My boyfriend noted that the latte he ordered was Japanese-style, very milk frothy and not as much coffee. I liked the steamed milk part and agree I couldn't taste much coffee.

Yelp
They refunded my missing order promptly. Great customer service! The food is great and I love using it for Too Good to Go.

Yelp
Yummy brunch spot! We loved everything we ordered! Avocado toast was very fun and different and had great flavors. Sticky bun was delicious!

Yelp
Very nice place and delicious baked goods. Service was quick and polite. I would go back again if I'm in the area. I know they have other locations in Boston so I'll be on the look out!

Yelp
A quick walk from MIT's campus, Flour Bakery is a delicious stopping point for students. I was excited to split a sticky bun and the avocado toast with a friend as we sat by the window and people watched. I already had high hopes (that were met!) for the iconic sticky bun--but the avocado toast absolutely blew me away. Probably the best avocado toast I've ever had. The texture of the crunchy bread was perfect, and the little elements of pesto spread and pepper and feta elevated the avocado. The poached egg was nice and runny. Getting both a savory and sweet option is the move here.

Yelp
This place sells pastries -- croissants in particular -- that are several days old! Went there on a Sunday at 8:00 am to buy fresh croissant, instead got a two day old one. Brought it to staff's attention, they couldn't care less. If you want fresh staff -- go to Praline (very close by) or PRB Boulangerie (in Kendall or Inman). They bake everything in store, daily, unlike this place. At $4.50 a piece per croissant, what Flour does in inexcusable.

Yelp
Solid bakery at a convenient location. I placed an order over the phone for a lemon raspberry cake ($40 total after tip) 2 days before I needed it and the process was fast and simple. The cake itself was moist and flavorful but unfortunately the buttercream around the cake appeared old and dry. I also tried the spiced apple cake which was delicious and something I look forward to getting again in the future.

Yelp
Yes yes yes!!! I already know that whenever I come back to Boston, I will definitely need to stop by and order the sticky buns and Oreo cookie again. Honestly, I'm considering bringing back a batch of the cookies! The breakfast sandwich was pretty good. My only "complaint" was it was abundantly filled and each bite caused sliding and a mess. I loved the flavor of it all and the dijonaise added the perfect salty tartness the sandwich needed. The sticky bun was also amazing! I see why Bobby Flay featured it on Food Network's "Best thing I ever ate". The dough was chewy yet still doughy. It wasn't too cinnamony but had good flavor. The "goo" or caramel on top was AMAZING. It was so buttery, sweet and smoky tasting; it complimented the generous amount of pecans perfectly. The rice crispy was decent and chewy and soft. The Oreo cookie I have to say is a bit underrated. After doing some research, I didn't come across much mention of it. The consistency of of the chocolate wafer part was compact enough yet once inside my mouth, it broke down into the most satisfying mouthfeel ever. It was crumby, yet smooth, the chocolate flavor was so pronounced yet not too sweet. The cream was equally as amazing, kinda milky, sweet tasting. Don't hesitate to come here! You won't regret it (unless you step on a scale afterwards)!!

Yelp
Too sweet and dense. Salads are great! Everything on their menu is just too sweet, because of the raving reviews I've ended up trying it multiple times from different locations around the Boston area, but they're all the same. Big portion sizes for something that unfortunately doesn't taste the best. Pastry's are overly sweet, cakes are dry, pies are not flaky and scones are dense. Salads however are really good and my go to.
google avatar

Kristina B.

Yelp
The people that work there are nice but the food and coffee is way too overpriced for what they have to offer. The coffee taste horrible and the price of a small is almost $4 when it literally taste so watered down, it's disgusting and such a waste of money if you're expecting some coffee for an extra boost of caffeine, do not recommend, the sandwiches aren't worth the price as well..
google avatar

Helena Q.

Yelp
I still like their sandwiches okay -- they have interesting flavor combinations, but overall their stuff tends to be inconsistent. For example, the mocha I got today just had chunks of powder in it, very unappetizing. Their sweets tend to be overly sweet as well. It's also usually slammed during lunch, so it's a long wait. I'd still go back for sandwiches, but nothing else. (My favorite is the achiote chicken, because I love the jicama.)
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
Love Flour Bakery! They have a bunch of fresh baked goods, espresso drinks, and normal food items. I ordered an almond milk latte and a lemon cupcake with strawberry buttercream frosting. The cupcake was SOOOO good. The frosting is so light and marshmallow-y and chiffon-like and the cake was super light and fluffy. The coffee was just okay in my opinion.
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
All delicious sandwiches and soups are gone off the menu and replaced with tasteless and bland items. What happened to the roast beef sandwich? Delicious chicken sandwich? Chilli? Bean soup? Borch? Everything is tofu this and tofu that and frankly the menu is horrible. Where are the amazing sweets? The baked goods now look like they are from Costco... Seriously! On top of the really bad menu the stuff is expecting the 20-30% tip and is making faces if they don't get it. Frankly it is a tip and I tip based on service that I get. I should not be forced into tipping as a customer if there is no service and there is no need for any attitude. Money do not grow on trees these days and Flour stuff should not make customers feel uncomfortable. Horrible practice! Not sure if will go back to Flour Caffe again. Very disappointing.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite boston spots and I come here every time when I visit. I used to come here in undergrad and it's super nostalgic but also just amazing. The pastries are also incredible and I love the sandwiches too. I always get the breakfast egg sandwich because you just can't beat that egg soufflé and the mustardy sauce. I even have their cookbooks and made it myself once because I was missing it (I lived in a different part of the country) and it was totally worth it. Still, can't fully recreate it and their sandwich bread is really perfect (especially on their roast beef sandwich which is one of my faves). Other notable items are the sticky bun (of course) and the pop tart. But honestly everything is the best ever.

Yelp
This place was tasty! It was really busy packed with students, but the food was great. Would be a stellar hangout spot.
google avatar

Thanh L.

Yelp
The place was pretty busy. We order off the machine to the side to avoid the line. We got the Sticky Sticky Bun and got it warm. It took like 5 minutes. It was super sticky and sweet. The bun was soft and tasty. Definitely worth the $4 something for it. Service was fast and friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff! Fresh, delicious food & a great, low key environment. Try the banana bread!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Stopped in for a coffee, water and a Boston cream pie slice. Did not disappoint! The slice was light and fluffy, not overly sweet or intense. If the chocolate layer on top was fresher and less stiff, would be even better! Otherwise, fantastic. And the bottle of Poland Spring...was superb
google avatar

Limina L.

Yelp
I had their fresh pressed orange juice and their chicken tikka masala sandwich! Both were super delicious. I will definitely be back to try other items on their menu, especially their desserts.
google avatar

Yelp
I finally tried the famous cornmeal lime cookie. I wasn't a huge fan as it was a little hard (may be due to the cold weather) but it tasted great dipped in hot coffee. The sour cream coffee cake on the other hand was so soft and yummy. The texture was soft and light and had some almonds in the base. Definitely would recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
So damn good. I have friends in the area that I come from NJ to visit and this is always a must to stop at. I even bought an extra set of pastries to take home back with me because it was so good. Spiced Apple cake and Almond macaroons are amazing.
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Fabulous iced mocha latte - the chocolate ganache made it. Apple cinnamon cake was delicious too.
google avatar

Pat C.

Yelp
Very slow and unclear why it took over 15 minutes to make a drink. Lots of people waiting and many had to give reminders .

Barb M.

Yelp
Can't get enough of their pies, always a hit at thanksgiving dinner. I always get pumpkin and apple, and we never have any leftovers.

Yelp
If you're visiting Boston/Cambridge, you have to stop by Flour bakery. The achiote roast chicken jicama sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches ever. I also love their breakfast egg sandwich, and their triple chocolate mousse cake is perfection. Everything at Flour is delicious. If you live in the area and come here often, download their rewards app!

Yelp
Leaving a low review for the experience I had today, which slightly undermines years of good experience with Flour up until now. The food is usually great and I've tried enough of the bakery items to say they're pretty worth it. I've never had a problem with their service or food UNTIL TODAY. I ordered half a sandwich and a drink, which I knew from the past would take 15 minutes tops to be ready. I went outside to sit down and wait. 15 minutes pass and so I go back in to ask one of the staff if maybe I've missed my order because I was sitting outside. She said as long as I have my table number it'll be brought back out. So I go outside to continue waiting. Another 15 minutes pass. The two tables of four people each all get their food even though they arrived after me. I flag down another staff member and ask them to check my order. They say they will but don't come back. At this point, I know I've wasted my time so I go back in intending to ask them to give me a refund. At the last minute, I'm handed my drink and sandwich after what's been almost 45 MINUTES of waiting and asking. They give me a refund, which I do appreciate. BUT the staff who gave me my food and told me about the refund somehow found it appropriate to make the side comment, "next time don't wait so long before you ask." I asked THREE times. Over the course of 45 minutes. To get HALF a sandwich. I get that I went at a busy time, I get they might be understaffed, I get that sometimes you have to ask. I would have come back later thinking this was an isolated event. But to make it my problem that a team of people collectively couldn't do their job for such a small order on the 3rd ask??? I appreciate the refund. I appreciate getting my food eventually. But after that comment, I'm pretty done with Flour. Two stars bc the second one is for the good times before today.

Heeryung C.

Yelp
Their baked goods never disappoint me, but their service usually does. I have been to this place a bit more than a year. I've tried multiple things here from almond macaroons to lemon raspberry cake, and every time they nail the well-balanced flavor and amazing texture. However, the staff made me uncomfortable with their demeanor and a way of talking. After a year of visits, I have concluded that it is not one staff. These staff seemed disinterested or even irritated to take custom orders, such as latte with almond milk instead of whole milk. Even today, there was a bit of miscommunication for a minute, and when I tried to clarify my orders (I was not upset or anything), the staff responded with a very annoyed tone. When I repeated my order just to confirm, the staff, in a very irritated tone, said something like "I am just checking (to see if they have it)" and then did not engage with me after all. It was very frustrating. Although I love pretty much everything in this place, I do not want to have another unpleasant experience. Flour Bakery lost one customer, but I guess they might not care since they are popular enough to stay open.

Lucy B.

Yelp
Maybe it was just a one off, but I waited 30 minutes for a roll (not even warmed up, just ordered a roll straight from the display). I didn't want to be a bother cause they were a bit busy, so waited to ask after about 15 minutes of standing there and was told "there's a system, it'll be out soon." Felt really awkward especially since the guy treated at me like I was totally out of line and being a jerk. Waited another ten minutes, asked again while apologizing, got the same (even more aggressive this time) answer from a different worker. Felt like I was being a total Karen, until finally I asked a third worker a bit later and he said oh let me check on that and found it in five seconds. My pre-made raisin roll had been sitting right behind him on the counter in its package, ready to go for who knows how long...so...idk it's fine I guess if you have infinite time but I was kinda incredulous over the whole encounter. Not a super fun way to start the day, being treated like a complete ass over their mistake

Yelp
2021/06/24 12:00 This place and Tatte are the 2 popular bakery-café chains in Boston I tried the sticky bun bread pudding, cornmeal lime cookie, and currant spelt oat scone. I also got an iced chai latte with locally pressed almond milk. Here are the highlights: - The cornmeal lime cookie, essentially a whoopie pie, was yummy, but I couldn't taste the cornmeal. It also tasted more like lemon than lime. - The sticky bun bread pudding was good on the top, but the bottom was watery and mushy. The sweetness and spices were just right. - The scone wasn't anything special. It wasn't particularly sweet. Reminded me of an oatmeal raisin cookie

Yelp
Best. avocado. toast. of. my. life!! Bread was multigrain and had the perfect amount of texture, flavor and crunch. I think what was my favorite was the combination of spicy and salty with the salsa verde and cotija cheese. Seriously so so good! Everything I've ever had from this place at every location and is a solid 10. I'd highly recommend a visit!
