The 12 Best Boiled Seafood Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"There are plenty of Cajun culinary standouts at Floyd’s — from boudin and fried catfish to oyster po’ boys — but folks flock to the restaurant for its authentic, Louisiana-style seafood boils. Crawfish is $9.99 per pound, and a dozen hot boiled jumbo shrimp will set you back $14.95." - Megha McSwain

We ate at the bar. The bartender was friendly and took good care of us. The chicken/sausage gumbo was flavorful and served with a side of rice & bread. House salad super fresh. We had the Morgan’s platter - catfish & shrimp, all fried to perfection. Atmosphere was nice. Floors kind of dirty, but it was late in the day. Plenty of free parking. Cheese cake with nuts & caramel was amazing. I took it home for later, I’m glad I didn’t pass on dessert,

Google
It was my first time. I ordered the shrimp platter. The shrimp and hush puppies were very small the plate looked empty. I wouldn't order it again. I was a little disappointed. The appetizer was amazing. The service was good. I took my mom and grandma and we had a good time. It was kind of quiet in there for a Cajun spot.

We came for Father’s Day & my daughter’s 21st birthday. It was a rainy day & we had to move tables bc there was a drip that was landing on my kids. We asked to be moved but after the food arrived, it happened again. Our waitress was very pleasant despite not having help on a busy evening. We tipped her well & went on our way. The decor was lacking for what the food cost. We would consider ordering delivery from here but not sure if we’d dine in again unless they make repairs to the building. It kind of put on our daughter in an awful mood so we did a do over dinner for her. Still, the food was excellent, I recommend the crab stuffed fish over the cornbread. It was one of the best dishes I’ve ever tried. All the food was delicious - but the entree I ordered was the best.

Google
DELICIOUS seafood! And I tried the fried avocado & crab salad appetizer—WOW!! I don’t have enough words to describe how good it was. I could eat here multiple times a week and not get tired of it!

Google
We really enjoy coming here every time. The food and service is impeccable and the staff is always friendly. We’ve had different servers and they always impress. Micheal and Baldwin are incredible servers. The female bartender is awesome too! We also love Tera because she shows every customer that they matter. Thank you Floyd’s and your staff for always making our experience special and delicious!

Google
Floyds Seafood - Sugar Land Tried the chicken fried chicken—crispy batter took center stage, while the chicken played a quieter role. The gravy? Easily the highlight, rich had the patty melt, a solid choice with decent taste. This is my opinion only not trying to discredit any establishment.

Google
Server came across as being tired. The gumbo was ok, I've had better. I like my gumbo with shrimp and sausage, this is a matter of preference. The Oisters were excellent.

John Herrera

Google
Excellent food, plenty of choices. Very flavorful and good spices, not over bearing. Service was adequate but not warm or friendly. Did not feel personal more as just a table. No time between appetizers and main courses.

Yelp
Love the set up inside. It's gives that come on in and pick a seat anywhere family feel. Service was excellent. This was our first time eating here and we were in town for a show and didn't want to go to some large chain or a place we can eat at everywhere. Great appetizer options. I wanted to try about 5 of them, but my eyes are bigger then my stomach. We got the crab stuffed jalapeños - grilled. Though they were good, they would have been better fried. Which is an option, but we were trying not to have everything fried and this lady was trying the fried okra! My husband got the Waygu Steak, and those seasoned well, nothing to really write home about. May not even order it again if we get to go back. I had the Bar Trash Mac and Cheese with Fried Okra!!! Loved it all, great portion size for the price. Truly if that was all my husband and I got, we wouldn't have been able to finish one serving together. Very memorable and I would definitely order that again.

Yelp
I give 4 stars because we truly love the staff but the drinks could improve. The staff is hard working, and remember our names/drinks. I usually pop in for a drinks and some appetizers. Sometimes I'm late and just want to chill. Tonight was the 'late pop in' asked for expresso martini.. I know.. I know.. bar tenders hate it but I love it.. I got cheap vodka and the remaining coffee grounds on top..It's not a deal breaker but lawd train your staff on the correct way to make a drink..

Yelp
I don't get all the bad rap Floyd's get but everything was excellent. We came around lunch time on a weekday. The fried boudin was really fresh and crispy. The waiter was very nice and substituted my half and half for shrimp etouffe. There was only 5 shrimp but they were large. My husband's flounder special was super tasty. Top it off with amazing hot bread pudding and I'm in love. Shout out to our waiter who was cheerful and had tons of recommendations.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of visiting Floyd's. It was not busy when we went , it was a total of 15 people. The waiter we had was okay . He made sure we had what we needed but when it came to asking questions about food items on the menu, he advised what we should eat and what we did not want instead of advising the flavoring taste of each dish and letting us choose for ourselves. For instance when it came to the crab fingers ordered ,I inquired is the boil good , he stated you don't want it . Never gave a reason . When I told him I'll go ahead and try the boiled crab fingers he advise nah you don't want it get the fried . I tasted the fried and it was HORRIBLE. .. besides that, everything else tasted okay ,not the best . I remember Floyd's use to be really good, fresh tasting and seasoned well and it so bland .
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the Bubs shrimp platter togo and I was a little underwhelmed. Flavor was just ok and the portion felt a little small for the price point. I'll try dining in and see if my opinion changes.

Yelp
Went here today with wife and parents and it was excellent. Had fried shrimp, fried fish, hush puppies, and jambalaya. The hush puppies were average but everything else was excellent. Jambalaya had huge peppers that tasted fresh. They had their own house hot sauce there that was not too spicy and had an excellent vinegar flavor. Family enjoyed their food as well. Tried some of their crab cakes and stuffed shrimp and it was good as well. Service was fast and friendly. Bottled sparkling water was served with orange slice, lemon wedge and lime wedge which I had never seen before but it gave the water a great flavor. Price was very reasonable especially off the lunch menu. But even if you order in the regular menu it is only a dollar or two more. Will definately come back for a Cajun seafood fix next time I am in the area.

Yelp
Bought a $28 seafood platter. Catfish was okay. Crawfish tasted like it was Microwave warmed up leftovers. So sad.

Yelp
Carissa our server at Floyd's Sugar Land was wonderful in helping us make the best selections. The food was delicious! I am so happy I chose Floyd's to celebrate my birthday. Carissa helped make it super special!

Priscilla V.

Yelp
Great food and great service! We love the atmosphere and the patio is very nice. There is a bar and tv's outside.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch with a coworker Wednesday. We had to very different dishes. I had the fried shrimp and she had a stew with various meats and rice. She said it was missing some seasoning however my shrimp and fries were perfectly seasoned. I would say the hush puppies and boudain could be better. The cocktail sauce was one of the best I've had. Strawberry lemonade had just the right balance of tart and sweet. Waitress offered good suggestions and was very nice and attentive. Good for a relaxed environment and meal.

Yelp
We got to try out Floyd's Saturday night and had an overall positive experience. I tried the half dozen oysters and they were pretty good. My boyfriend tried the crawfish bisque and it was pretty good as well. Everything in the menu was a little more expensive than we were expecting for a casual dining Cajun restaurant so we stuck with the po boys this evening. They were massive! Taste wise they were okay but I don't think I'd go out of my way for a visit to order them again. The restaurant was packed and we had abut a 25 min wait with another 15 to 20 min or so to get our apps and another wait for food. There was a large party so that may have contributed to the wait times but again it was packed. Our waitresses were ever friendly and working as fast as possible so we truly appreciated the hospitality!

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a quick lunch on the way to my errands. The server was nice. They have a cute outdoor bar/patio area. Tried the catfish appetizer, very light on breading. Good. Salmon salad was huge! The combination of blueberries strawberries pecans blue cheese were great. I was happy about the portion size of the salmon. Good stop for seafood favorites.

Yelp
Having multiple locations in the area and hitting that middle market price point with pretty good food, I like Floyd's. Food is consistent at the several locations I've tried. Crawfish in season is very good as is the redfish year round, although the redfish fillet was too small and slightly overcooked as a result of being small but still good. Service is always good and the atmosphere is busy but never too noisy to interfere with conversation.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Expensive and tasty food. Too noisy. One of the best cajun style gumbo dishes in the area.
google avatar

Peggy B.

Yelp
Floyd's is a treat. Really solid Cajun. They got all the dishes. Some with their own touch. Their shrimp dawg sauce dishes are very good. Their steaks and other items are solid, but the Cajun is superb. And they have really great desserts. Service is always so sweet and nice. Great cajun decor. All around casual great family place with solid tasty food. Recommend giving it a try.
google avatar

Yanko R.

Yelp
Plain and simple... I did not care for the food I had. The Blackened Flounder dish I had was not good at all. Very little seasoning and the minuscule crawfish tails were just that, minuscule. We ordered an app of the fried green tomatoes and that was pretty delicious. I would order those again. The service was okay for the time. Place was not busy so it left the wait staff not too busy. Ambiance was interesting, but not over the top.
google avatar

Yelp
I have given Floyds a try several times but I am usually disappointed. The food is bland and not tasty. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Wait has been long. I will go back if someone else is paying. Its a casual place. There are too many other good seafood restaurants around.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Nice place for Cajun food. The ambiance is just perfect. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was better than I expected. Definitely recommend to everyone.
google avatar

Dylan T.

Yelp
The food was tasty, the service was good, and there was a lot to choose from. Will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Update, we've eaten at Floyd's a few times recently. The food is still excellent but the service was lacking on two different visits. The food makes up for it as does the ambiance of the place so no harm no foul. Restaurants usually weed out the poor wait staff in due time. See you in a couple of weeks.
google avatar

Sharon J.

Yelp
First time going. The food (Gumbo) was not good. The service was very good. The ambiance was ok. I plan to try it again. I will give a restaurant a couple of trys.
google avatar

Yelp
Good - just alright Service - Out of various things at lunch time on a Friday is odd. Won't go back.

Yelp
Floyd's has been a hit or miss place during an since COVID But last night was a hit I think they are getting the mojo back. I always get the blackened boudin split links it has never let me down and fried catfish platter very light and tasty. My son got the crawfish etoufe was good portion and he enjoyed it chicken fingers for the grandkids chicken fried chicken shrimp platter I had a big group so we covered the menu. I still don't care for their gumbo but everything else hit the spot. Our Waiter ( Baldwin) was on top of it all evening my glass never ran dry and meals came out hot and in good time
google avatar

Carrie W.

Yelp
Baldwin was an amazing waiter and very attentive! Thanks for the great food suggestions!
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
Crawfish étouffée and fried crawfish was great for my crawfish craving without having to peel crawfish. However this place was super packed at a Friday lunch and took an hour to get seated and order. It was at least 2 total hours that we spent there. Outdoor patio is nice but a few other customers were smoking and made it quite unpleasant even when outdoors.

Yelp
My friend and I visited this location yesterday. It was my 1st time to try Floyd's and this was my friend's 1st time at this location. I was excited because I really wanted seafood and cajun food. Unfortunately, we ended up very disappointed. Our waitress Scottie did not make the best impression as she was rushing us to make drink choices and wasn't going to stand there all night (her words). She gave off the impression that she didn't want or have time to answer our questions. After she brought our drinks, I asked her if she was new and her response was, " I have been waiting tables for 10 years, why did you ask me that?" So I let her know how she cane off earlier and how she responded when asking her about drinks. She said, " Oh no, I just don't drink anymore so I really don't know that was all". I told her I knew something was up and that's why I asked and wanted to being it to her attention. Now the food - biggest disappointment!!! I got the Floyd's platter (I chose to have everything fried), which is 2 oysters (I substituted for 2 extra shrimp) 2 fish fillets, 2 shrimp, 1 crab stuffed shrimp, 1 crabcakes and fries (I chose a stuffed potato instead for a 95 cents upcharge). The Floyd's platter is 29.99 and for what you get, it is wayyyyyyy overpriced!! The shrimp taste better when dipping them in the cocktail sauce, otherwise everything was not seasoned at all. Now my platter did have an extra fish fillet which would have been great if it taste good but it did not. I just couldn't believe it!! The stuffed shrimp was just like the crabcake - disgusting!! I am not sure what kind of crab concoction is used but it is horrible!!!!! I took one but of it and did not eat anymore of the crabcake. That is never heard of for a foodie like me!!! The stuffed potato was yummy!! Had I known I would have only ordered that and saved my money!!! Scottie brought bread to us after I asked for garlic bread and she made a point to let us know she was just giving it to us. It wasn't good either so glad we didn't pay $1.99 for it. My hurricane rita ($11) was okay and I added a Patron floater ($2). My friend's shrimp platter was a joke also. The manager walked around and she stopped at our table to ask how was everything. I was honest with her about the food. I didn't mention Scottie because in all honesty I forgot about her after my disappointment with the food!!! The manager apologized and said she was going to give us some cards to come back and give them another chance. She gives my friend and ai two $5.00 cards. On the cards, it says you can only use one card at a time at a table. Not that I plan to ever go back, but I was like really?!!! My 2 stars are for the stuffed potato and the manager's attempt to try to make up for the disappointment. Take a look at the picture and dine here if you like unseasoned, nasty food!!!

Kia B.

Yelp
I normally enjoy dining here weekly on Friday; but, yesterday I ordered a Morgan City Combo and developed food poisoning . I normally sit at a table in the bar area and the male waiter is attentive, but not overbearing. The service was not bad,, but not exceptional as with previous visits. I WONT BE RETURNING !!!!!!

Horace G.

Yelp
Was really excited to try this restaurant on my next visit to Houston and so disappointed. The catfish, shrimp etoufee, red beans & rice and fried shrimp were all so bland. There was no Cajun flavor or bite at all. My co-workers Dos Equis was warm. I will not be visiting this restaurant again. Lacey our waitress was wonderful and so very nice.
google avatar

Garfield N.

Yelp
I had the Thursday special, crab canes , shrimp brochettes it was great. You have to try the lunch and happy hour specials. Who wouldn't want great food at a discount?

Fatima V.

Yelp
First and last time at Floyd's, our food was served cold , the service was terrible. Our waitress I don't remember her name but we sat at table 31, only visited our table to get our drink order and food order while she visited other tables very often. We did not have any silverware at our table and had to flag someone down to get it. The food was very bland, no Cajun flavor at all. The ambience was very disappointed. Every employee had a frown and clearly looked like they didn't want to be there. On one occasion one of the employees cleaning the tables almost ran into another patron with a cart and she didnt apologize at all , not even an "excuse me". My husband and I were eager to just leave but our waitress couldn't even bother to bring our check. Very disappointed experience. Literally only adding one star because I have to!
google avatar

Don C.

Yelp
So this has been a fave for a Wylie. The new manager not so much. Bitchy to staff and customers. Switched to glass tunmblete and cloth napkins. Upped the prices. Service slower because she does nothing but rude her scooter around. Not a fan Floyd's get rid of her!
google avatar

Yelp
We went on Valentine's Day, which was also Ash Wednesday. So I imagine it was busier than usual but there were plenty of staff to keep up and it didn't feel like we had to wait any longer for our food than it would be on a non holiday. Our server was very nice. English was not her first language, and she took the time to make sure she understood our order, which is great. If she wasn't available, someone else was hovering around to help. I will say she did move slowly, and it took a long time for her to come back to see if we needed refills or if our food was okay. On the other hand my rating is based on the food. The only reason I give 2 stars is because the service was good. The ambiance is okay. The establishment is clean, and they have outdoor seating. I will say it is a bit too open for the number of bright lights. It was like stepping into a grocery store instead of a restaurant. Okay, now for the bad. The dirty rice was downright awful. It tasted oily, mushy, and strangely bland. I should have known because our boudain balls were crispy on the outside but blah on the inside. My flounder was also bland. My dish came with crayfish and oysters. I will tell you what, those oysters were the most flavorful item on my plate. My husband ordered the 30 dollar steak, which was pitiful. It was also way under cooked. He asked for medium and got rare. They also have also have absolutely no veggies added with the meals. So imagine a plate of unseasoned fish and mushy flavorless dirty rice with nothing else to eat. Will I be back? Probably not. Should they remove "Steak" from the side of the building? Yes!

Kevin T.

Yelp
Visited on a Friday night. Wasn't too busy. I had the "Bubs Shrimp Platter" while the wife had the Seafood Pasta. I would consider both to be middle of the road. The pasta was adequate but not on par with some of our other local establishments. The shrimp platter, as I said, middle of the road. Nothing to write home about. Now, let's talk about the gumbo. This is not gumbo by any stretch of the imagination. It reminded me more of Courtbouillon. It was very watery (roux is flour and oil....it should be thick) There was no Holy Trinity. There were no vegetables at all, other than sliced green onion. I have never, ever had a gumbo with zero vegetables. Here is a clue for the owners. Go to a gumbo cook-off and pay the winner a big chunk of change for the recipe. Becase this?........well, this should be an embarrassment. So much potential but misses the mark. The service was the best part of the experience. Likely not to return and I cannot recommend. Food: 2/5 | Service: 4/5 | Atmosphere: 3/5

Jasmine O.

Yelp
Ordered a burger and baked potato via favor app for delivery last night. Spent this entire morning puking my brains out and eventually landed in the ER for food poisoning. Definitely check if your burger is cooked all the way. I was gonna share it with my elderly mother but she noticed the patty looked weird & declined. unfortunately by then u had already had 4 bites of the burger.

Yelp
Let me just say that this place has been around for 30 years so they're doing something right. The customer service was beyond great, thanks Ron! You can tell that he honestly enjoys his job and is very customer service focused, like old school customer service that's been missing lately. Also, it's a little difficult to get directly into the parking lot coming off the highway, but we were able to turn into the mall and circle back around. Now the food was delicious. We went for dinner and lucked up on a great happy hour! We started off with two appetizers, the Cajun quesadillas that were filled with crawfish and the dawg shrimp (could use a tad more seasoning) which was served with a creamy butter sauce - no complaints there. Next we had the fried pickles that were sliced thin and battered perfectly (not too much). We also ordered 1/2 dozen oysters. I mean why not?! The oysters were delivered fresh (we saw the delivery truck which comes every other day so they truly are fresh and not frozen). We then had the seafood courtbouillon; filled with shrimp, crab, crawfish, catfish, and veggies. The portion was so large that we actually split it (half the portion shown). It was tasty! The sauce was not overly thin or thick and it was seasoned in such a way that the spices build to a subtle kick. I mean this dish was made with love. On the table, there are three hot sauces and Tabasco sauce provided if you need a little spicy something extra. Let me not forget to mention that we had a couple of margaritas. They offer both frozen and on the rocks with options of salt, sugar or tajin for the rim. We also tried the beignets which were not prepared with the traditional amount of powdered sugar. They looked more on the dry side in terms of texture but full disclosure I didn't try it, my friend did and to her they were basic. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the bread pudding. It was served warm, had cream cheese and pecans inside, topped with the caramel sauce and shredded coconut. I'm not a huge fan of pecans and I don't like coconut but this dessert is a winner, so yeah get it! Overall, we enjoyed our experience and there are so many great options. Will definitely be back.

Daniel P.

Yelp
Came once and had gumbo that was cold and had ice in it the waiter was really apologetic but nothing could motivate me again. I never went back and don't intend to

Karen C.

Yelp
We went for lunch a few weeks ago. Love the ambiance and service here but I found the fried shrimp on the lunch menu very small 6 shrimp. Will stick with Joes Grill or Pier 36 for my fried shrimp
google avatar

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
Baldwin was an excellent server and very attentive. We will definitely be back. The food was a taste of home. Everything was hot, fresh and brought out fast.
google avatar

Carolyn M.

Yelp
PERFECT...BEST ! BEST STAFF... "NEATEST TIME!!!!" Love "everything I've eaten, especially crab bisque, crab cake with loster bisque and "super big and "crusty" Onion rings!!! Drinks are also impressive and sooooo fun HAPPY HOUR!!!! 4
google avatar

Ken S.

Yelp
A local favorite and great Cajun delicacies served!! Gumbo is always great and service is top notch. We had the oysters.. being out of season and a draught too, it has taken it's toll. Most everywhere, the are undersized and it doesn't take much to over cook them. I would hold off until next season for oysters . If your into Cajun Cuisine, this place is worth a visit!
google avatar

Margo F.

Yelp
Great Cajun and regular food options. Service is pretty good, their gumbo and bisque are all amazing. Fresh oysters have never disappointed! Give it a chance!

J P.

Yelp
Meh. In town for MD Anderson appointments nearby and tried Floyd's because of the close proximity. Had excellent service, but the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer was the best part of the meal. Whatever that corn salsa is as a part of the app was like crack. Vegetarian in the group ordered the Caesar salad, which was so-so with the occasional glob of dressing. Yelp says "many vegetarian options," but that means salads, fried apps, or al la carte sides. Fried shrimp platter was Okay, but shrimp were on the small side, and fries were overdone. The happy hour menu looked totally on par, though. If I were to repeat, it'd be for the happy hour apps and a few cold ones. Shorts and t-shirts casual, and room for couples and families alike.

Alex G.

Yelp
My dad had his milestone birthday here and my family, who is all from Louisiana, said the food was great. Friendly service, great quiet ambiance, and delicious food.
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
They have a fantastic happy hour, which includes their huge and fresh raw oysters. Pasta dishes are sinfully good.

Walter S.

Yelp
Yep, it's a Floyd's. Large dining area with the ability to group tables if needed. Our group had to use two separate tables which worked out ok. Service was prompt on that Saturday night at 5:15pm. They have some shaded patio area which is great. Our group had a great many things on the menu. I never heard any complaints. The crab bisque got rave reviews. My catfish was cooked perfectly. The fried shrimp were HUGE and several persons said they were delicious. The concrete floors make for a somewhat noisy environment. We will be back. .
google avatar

Yelp
This is a Cajun restaurant. We ordered oysters for appetizer, and I had jambalaya. Did not disappoint. They have a huge menu. The service was superb, our waiter was hustling! Not the best dessert place but I'm sure we were just too full. Yummy iced tea drinks. Excellent for families and large groups. Will come back when in Sugarland.
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and fun. We had the shrimp platter, oyster combo, red velvet cheesecake all recommended by our great server Baldwin
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
My spouse and I went there last Sunday and got their crawfish special 5lbs for $30, we each got 5lbs and some sausage and mushrooms. They seemed dirty like they had not been purged well but they tasted good. That night we BOTH got food poisoning and were sick all night and the next morning. $99 worth of food in the toilet. Totally disappointed in Floyd's - we will not be returning.
google avatar

Caroline L.

Yelp
Go see Baldwin. He's attentive and gracious. Service was great. He realized our happy hour orders didn't go through because of some computer issue but had no issue repairing it
