Trans-Owned Coffee Shop Fluid Opens in La Cocina Food Hall - Eater SF

"Fluid Cooperative Cafe is a coffee pop-up that aspires to eventually have its own brick-and-mortar location and events across the city. It’s a cooperative from a trio of trans founders, who aim to serve coffee by trans people, for trans people, and reclaim space for the gender non-conforming community. The founders have experience in restaurants, bars, and nightlife and plan to keep Fluid a cooperative. The menu includes drip coffee, pastries, and will feature a trio of roasters including trans-owned Maquina and Queer Wave, plus the queer-owned Equator. Fluid Cooperative Cafe is now popping up at La Cocina Municipal Food Hall at 101 Hyde Street." - Becky Duffett

The regular coffee with oat milk I ordered was perfect. I didn't have to add more milk or more sugar. It wasn't acidic like I expected it would be knowing it's equator coffee. I was surprised it actually tasted how I like it and even the temperature was perfect. Not boiling hot. The vegan cookie was good too. They didn't have much options at that time but that cookie was worth buying again. The barista was nice too as well as the bouncer (or security) checking the vaccine cards. The overall atmosphere and experience was amazing. Will come back again and bring some friends/family.

Japanese sweet cream with Oat is a new favorite! So excited to have Fluid open and had to come out to support. There's a great variety of coffee and non-coffee drinks like the Calamansi-ade with bufferfly pea tea cubes my friend gets often. Located inside La Cocina Municipal Marketplace building, it's right in front of your face when you walk in! Awesome friendly service and staff!

Great food court & community workspace. There are outlets and customer use computers along the walls allowing for a great daytime working environment. The only drawback is the unbalanced hours for the eateries located within but all the food I've had has been spot on for their respective native signature origins. Noted for nice workspace that serves a delicious cafecito de maria. Be careful after sundown as that is when the feeling of safety in the surrounding area drops significantly but luckily, this venue supports their own security team which makes me feel safer overall when I'm here.

I ordered one of the featured drinks here made with mushroom, espresso, and cacao. It really helped rejuvenate me and and be ready for my day and in a good mood! Which is important because I’m only in the area for a few days and needed the boost to get grounded and be able to enjoy myself instead of just feeling like a frazzled tourist!!! Highly recommend !!!

Amazing! Their coffee was great and they had some fun drinks to try. I love how they also offer milk alternatives. Service was great as the people taking orders were nice and welcoming! I love the whole aesthetic of the place and will be dropping by again soon!

Fluid is hands down my favorite coffee shop in San Francisco. Their coffee is to die for and the open Mic they hold is the highlight of my month. 11/10 thank you Jojo, Sarello and Santana for making such a wonderful place

If you're looking for good drip coffee and amazing lattes, definitely try Fluid Cooperative. They also have Chaguccinos, which are made with mushrooms and are keto friendly! I tend to try the lattes from their seasonal menu, and most recently I had one from their Girl Scout Series, which was the thin mints. It was so delicious! I had it cold too, so the mint was fresh but not overpowering. From time to time, they have a drink named after a Queero- a person who has positively impacted the LGBTQ+ community. They also have teas now, one that promotes estrogen and one that promotes testosterone. I got the one that promotes estrogen with honey, and it was what I needed on a very cold day. Fluid is trans-owned business. And as the name says, it's a cooperative, so everyone gets a say. I like that from the traditional capitalist structures. And having a trans-owned business that's open to everyone is so important for the Tenderloin neighborhood, which is also the Transgender District. Fluid is the first place you'll see at La Cocina Marketplace, and it's also where you can pick up online orders. Everyone I've encountered there, and at La Cocina in general, have been super duper friendly. And also, the lids for their hot drinks are pink with a little plastic heart. I save those and place them around my desk and office. It's just something that makes me happy. Their menu online is their staple menu, so definitely come in person to see the seasonal or new drinks. And check out their IG as well for up-to-date information and events.
